the popping doesn't hurt it's just annoying, every single time i walk down stairs if my home my ankles always pop like so it's pretty hard to sneak in the middle of the night to get food
ok omg I have a trick for that. I literally pop every part of my ankle intentionally by walking around my room. Once you’ve done that you’re free to sneak some food😂
Might want to see a doctor, each time it pops it damages the tendon a little bit which can lead to the tendon fraying or even tearing. Had the same problem after a bad ankle injury had to get it fixed two months ago
i had surgery and it takes about 6-9 months depending on the shape of the bone. but you have to keep in mind that the severity of the injury determines how long the recovery time is and mine was pretty bad.
Person Name thanks for replying man, your post was from 8 months ago too. i think i have tendonitis in my right and a subluxation in my left but i have to get it checked out this Monday
False. I disliked because this surgeon is just a salesmen. Trying to say this is congenital so the only way to fix it is thru surgery. Its from injuries causing the muscles to spasm which leads to muscle imbalances.
A Random Potato so theres any way can i fix my ankle sir ? I suffered it to much losing my job losing any activities 😞 what should i do 😭 when i go to hospital their keep repeat it doesn’t anything and i always keep pain killer when I can’t walk. Sometimes I can’t move even an inches my foot when it come worst
Eh, I have had this issue after an injury for over a year now, and the information he gives in this video is minimal and does nothing to help the situation. The video title implies there is important info to hear, yet he doesn't name the problem (peroneal tendon subluxation) nor does he provide basic solutions (foot, ankle and lower leg strengthening exercises) to help alleviate the issue as much as possible. One of the least informative videos or bits of information I have ever seen so far on this problem.
Or they realize that this video, despite its title, actually didn't explain much of anything properly. For example, the issue is called "peroneal tendon subluxation", which is not mentioned here, and also he didn't even think to mention that strengthening the muscles responsible for stabilization and overall balance would help alleviate the problem to varying degrees. This is arguably the worst video on this subject on youtube, and I have seen around 30~ of them due to my own problem.
I've always been able to create that popping with my left ankle, and it's only happens when I chose to do it for the most part. I've never experienced and issues playing sports or doing daily activities but it's good have some knowledge on what it is or could be!
+Eric Agona I'm starting to experience pain from this condition now. It was/is embarrassing to me when I have to adjust myself for sitting down or just doing some stretches or exercises and having other people hear it pop or see me nurse my ankle into normal positioning. Now that I've taken up skateboarding again I'm starting to have some pain while walking.
Exact same thing with me… now I wonder if putting more weight bearing on my left ankle led to instability and some damage there. I tend to lean on my left side (there might be some muscle imbalances with my hips too causing this) which puts more force on my left foot and ankle
I'm 42 and I have had this for as long as I can remember. It doesn't hurt but sometimes it can be surprisingly loud. I have also noticed in the last year or two that my wrists will make little popping sounds as well. Ahh, the joys of aging.
Loud pops means the tendon is scraping over the bone, which means it is developing microtears over time that take a lot time to heal, which also gets slower with age. Don't make my mistake. Go see a specialist who can check your foot; if you don't want to fork out the cash for an MRI, seek a specialist with an ultra sound and tell them you believe you are experiencing some form of peroneal tendon subluxation.
i had peroneal tendon surgery back in november 2012 at 17yrs old to repair a badly torn tendon (broke that ankle and it healed incorrectly and repeated sprains prior to operation) and a year later had to go back to an orthopedic surgeon for the same pre-surgery complaint and an MRI showed the tendon is once again torn and just recently i've been experiencing increased laxity and every step i take, i feel and hear a popping going on. it doesn't help that i work retail and during our shifts we aren't allowed to sit unless we are on break. long story short, thank you for the video Dr. Lam! having more insight is helpful in management because i'm hesitating another surgery due to college and work.
There is a popping sound whenever I move my foot in circles or when I walking but the sound comes from the front not the back of my ankle what would that be from? Is it serious or nothing to worry about?
Madison Kirsch I forgot to mention that every once in a while it hurts extremely bad and it feels like I can't move my foot (My right foot) My left foot pops as well but it is in many different places.
+Bunny Love Button since you are a dancer you sprain ur ankles? so the muscles that hold this tendon have loosened up but you can make these muscles strong again by physiotherapy no big deal so dont get spooked :D
This is my problem for years now it happen back in high school playing football my ankle got swollen i had to leave early i just took pain killers but thats about it my mom being hardcore mexican i didnt go to a doctor then now iam 24 and it still keep popping this video helped understand what really hurts during the winter days
I’ve had this since I was about 10 years old ! It never hurt me before . It usually only pops if I’ve been laying down for awhile and once I get up to walk it clicks with two steps. It’s only my right ankle but now I’m 24 and some nights I can’t sleep because I get pain shooting from my ankle bone to my hip bone ! And I can pop it on my own by moving it in circular motions.
Bro I got the same thing going on with me right now! I’m 24 and my ankle use to pop on command if I adjusted my foot a certain way. Now I have a nerve pain from my hip down to my foot(on my left side) and the top of my ankle is numb. I’m not sure if it’s sciatica or what.
I can click my right ankle by flexing the foot for as often as I like, and used to be able to do the same with my left but am no longer able to do so, which is very frustrating since I can't make my ankles feel "symmetrical" anymore. Finally I know what the (most likely) cause for it is! Thank you for making this video :)
My ankle literally snaps every step I take. Has done for 4 or so years (I’m 16). Sometimes the snaps are a lot louder than others. The fun part is that it lets me know whose the most observant of my friends. I’ve had friends at school that I’ve seen every day for years that have never noticed. However, I’ve had other friends that hear a snap from the other side of the room and just turn and go ‘WAS THAT YOUR ANKLE??’
Heeyy I have the same story. Two years ago, when I was 16 I started hearing the pops. I went to a doctor and she told me that I had something wrong with the bones of my feet but she never mentioned the ligament this doctor was talking about even tho I asked her why I heard the popping in my right foot only. Did you go to a doctor?
I am 15 and this popping noise just started a few weeks ago It does not hurt but almost every step on my right ankle it is so loud or when I rotate it Is there any way to stop this pop
+Dr. Kevin Lam, DPM: Family Foot and Leg Center, PA How long is the recovery time after surgery? I am a professional basketball player, how long before I could resume playing fully healthy again? Thanks in advance, Dr.
Almost any sign of discomfort in your body is caused by muscles/tendons/ligaments and can easily be overcome with some massage and movement. And it can easily be done at home alone:) Self help is the best help. Nobody's gonna heal you.
+Dr. Kevin Lam, DPM: Family Foot and Leg Center, PA what kind of doctor are you? Are you honestly telling me you didn't notice the tendon bulging out? It was very obviously tight. Are you not very familiar with the human body or how muscles work?
I have this happen on the lateral and medial aspect of my joint also, both feet, since I was 9 I remember it and being scared about it 20 yrs later no actual problems and I am active and olympic weightlift among other sports I have done, still concerns me in the long run. Glad to know its not some joint problem.
Phanic! At the Chemical romance The same thing for me. Mostly just my left ankle. I'm 21 and it's happened as long as I can remember. Never had any sprains or anything. I can pop it over and over again and it makes a very loud noise, much louder than the one in the video. I never thought it was anything until I decided to Google it out of curiosity today.
Phanic! At the Chemical romance Oh also, it doesn't hurt when it cracks. But when I excerise and for example go on a walk/hike my that outer area of my ankle does tend to become painful. I always just figured the anke was like kind of weak or something and I needed to strengthen/stretch it. Does this happen to you too?
shirinf333 yeah exactly! If you even put some pressure on it for some time does it feel as if it fell asleep for a few second? And if you accidentally crack it the wrong way or something does it kinda hurt for a few hours and such ?
Phanic! At the Chemical romance im 26 years old and my ankles pop amd crack like crazy when walking up stairs or i can make them do it its never hurt me or caused any pain
I've always thought of my ankles as really weak, I roll them all the time. They give out on me. Been on crutches once for rolling them just from stepping off of step, and I stepped carefully due to this and still rolled it and heard a very audible snap! There was once, I was on a step stool near a fryer, I work with food, and as I stepped down, my ankle gives out and my hand damn near went into the oil. But the most annoying, and slightly painful, not too mention uncomfortable feeling is when I flex my feet and it feels like my ankle pops out of place. I'm almost sure this is what the deal is! I just now had to snap everything back into place, by using a step ladder, and ballet plies...oh and I had to suppress a scream due to living in an apartment!
i think i may have this or something like it earlier this year i was bowling in a league and on my approch my anckle gave way and i had about 20 -30 pops and then pain ever since turning my ankle certian ways and when it pops its loud and hurts
this happens to me sometimes but when it pops i get instant pain and i have to limp and sit down and stretch my ankle as the doctor shows here and i hear the pop and immediately the pain goes away. since this started happening i seem to get a swelling on my ankle on the upper ankle where my foot curves to my lower leg. it looks like a oval bag and feels like two thick bands under the skin. usually will have it for a few weeks with minimal pain
A very possible reason is if the axis of the ankle is out of alignment which mostly is caused by the tibia and fibula being out of alignment, which can possible always have been so or occurs after an ankle trauma like twisting the ankle. These positions can be adjusted again by specific exercises or by an osteopath. Try these options before undergoing any operation!!
Hey, hope I can add to this a little. From what I find clinically, clicking ankles are usually just a product of some mechanical restrictions in and around the ankle joint. Sorting it out is often as simple as looking for, and releasing these areas, allowing the tendons that click to return to normal function. Here's a simple video that covers some basic exercises to rectify these hidden features. Hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/CL7ku_k6dyE/w-d-xo.html
Dr. Kevin Lam: Popping peroneal syndrome on an 11 year-old child with classic symptoms. Basically, popping peroneal syndrome is when kids or adults come in complaining about “Hey, I feel a bone pop behind the ankle”. This is the grove where the peroneal tendons are supposed to be. The peroneal tendons are on the lateral or the outside of the ankle. So this is going to be right here on this side. The tendon is supposed to run behind the fibula, come around, one attaches here, the other one goes underneath the foot and goes and attaches down here, so the two peroneal tendons. Now, when we feel the pop, that tendon lies in front of this bone and it pops in front and that’s where that happens. A couple of different reasons why that happens is one, either the groove is too shallow, that’s one way. This is supposed to have a little pit, almost a “c” shaped groove in the back which this bone model shows a little bit right here. Some kids are born with ones that are too shallow. Another thing is -- a less likely cause is patients are born with that tissue that holds it in being too weak. If that is too weak, we can still go ahead and repair that. An MRI will give us an idea of, if the groove is too shallow, we can go ahead and fashion a groove right here with a little bore, make it a deeper “c” shape and then reinforce and replace the tendon behind so that it won’t pop. So now to the patient, here’s how we could tell. This is the fibula right here and this is the tendon that runs right behind it. This is the fibula outline and this is the tendon right here. Good anatomy lesson, this the peroneal tendon. Now I’m going to have you put your toes over to that wall for me, okay? Point over there. Okay. As she points, we’re going to see this tendon bowstring, this tendon bowstring… relax… this tendon is going to bowstring to the side of the fibula. Point that way again, one more time. And that’s what causes the pop. Dr. Kevin Lam: As you can see this tendon is very, very prominent, right here now. If I could see it right there, push, push, push, push… right here, it’s almost on the side of the fibula, right now. Relax. Now, tendon relocates. Now push again. The tendon comes out to the side again right here. And that’s what the pop is. Patient: Mhmm. Dr. Kevin Lam: It’s more pronounced on the other side, but it’s harder to see. We’re going do it one more time. This is the peroneus brevis tendon, I’m tracing it from here to here, inserts into the base of number five. You’re going to relax for me for one more time, we’re going to… right there. See that tendon? Just by doing that without her doing any force, this is called the peroneal tendon stress test. So I dorsiflex, make you do something called evert, so I dorsiflex and evert and this tendon would dislocate up front to the side. And I can feel a pop. You can hear the audible pop right now. I’m reproducing the pop. Dr. Kevin Lam: Is that what you hear when you walk? Patient: Yes. Dr. Kevin Lam: That’s the peroneal tendon dislocation, peroneal popping syndrome. I can feel my hand and she could hear it and you can hear it at home, this popping sound from her tendon. Now sometimes patients have a tear on this tendon, that’s what the MRI is going to tell us too. If there’s a tear, again, we could repair and replace it back. So there’s a couple of different things that can cause this. Number one, we went over the shallow grove, back here, if it’s too shallow, that tendon can pop forward. Or if a patient has a tear in that tendon, it can pop forward. Or if the ligament - there’s a ligament that holds this behind called the peroneal retinaculum, it hold this tendon back. If she was born with a weakened ligament back here, that can also cause that tendon to pop forward. Now, the chance of her having a tear back here being the primary cause is fairly low because she has it on both sides. So most likely, one of the congenital deformities that was causing this popping to happen. So an MRI will be ordered, we’ll figure it out and we’ll come up with the best choice of care. Dr. Kevin Lam: Any questions? Patient: No. Dr. Kevin Lam: Okay, good.
Great explanation. I just suffered an ankle injury a few days ago after getting thrown off a dirt bike. The orthopedist I saw has me in an aircast until my x-rays next week. I noticed the popping in that same ankle today now that the swelling has gone down. Will be sure to let her know on my next visit. if surgery is needed, how long is the normal recovery time?
I had a large cutting board fall right on my lateral malleolus about a year ago and my ankle started popping right after. Now I've been having leg, knee pain, like my leg from the lateral malleolus to my knee aches.
Is this a illness? My ankles and shoulders do not crack by themselves, but I can crack them on purpose. I can do that since young and it's fun, doesn't hurt at all. I've recently sprained my ankle and i couldn't crack it til I could crack it again, then I would say I have fully recovered back to normal.
Understood. Reason I asked is I'm kind of in weird situation. I wore orthotics for 15 years and then about 2 years ago I decided to get out of them. Now I have developed tendon issues.... I wouldn't say it's completing popping out of groove but it's irritated from normal range. I think it's from excessive pronation and has stretched/injured them now
I need some help I'm a skateboarder and I have sprained my ankle plenty of times. recently when I was skating when I turned my ankle in different positions and put pressure at this particular spot my ankle feels like wants to pop or something next to it is pushing against it I'm not sure what that is but just wanted to see if this could be the problem
HI Kevin, I got an injury in my ankle while playing soccer 7 years ago and since than my ankle is popping like crazy. It is so pain, so pain that sometime I cannot sleep at night. I went to the doctor, get MRI, chiropractor, physio and nothing is getting better. It is popping so loud that everybody in the office stare at me when it happen (every 15~30 min), no one seem to get use to it. Now I watch your video and for the first time in years someone is telling me something that make sense. But now, I want to know how can I fix this, what are my option? Good to have the diagnose, but I am afraid that my doctors that could not tell me what you are saying in this video, they would not give me the proper treatment for it. Maybe that is why you get some dislikers. But I want to thank you for this video, it is very helpful for me and maybe this will help me getting the right treatment
Francois Lachance by surgery. I have this problem as well and unfortunately it can be solved just by surgery to reconstruct the problem that's going on beneath the skin.
I had ankle problems since I was like 10. It mostly makes the popping noise when I wear high heels (which is very annoying). I havent worn heels in years because I'm embarrassed. It doesn't hurt at all , it's just loud and obnoxious.
I've sprang my left ankle twice and my right one once and if I run and step on my left foot wrong it'll feel like I sprang it again and I'll fall down and I can't get back up on my two feet until the pain is gone. Both my ankles pop all the time constantly.
I'm 25 and I've had fairly severe popping ankles for most of my life. If I rotate them they pop, sometimes involuntarily while moving. I can feel the pressure build up in them. If I consciously rotate them too much I'll get shin splints. If I can recall I think it started when I began doing sport which were jujitsu and soccer at first and I probably twisted my ankles numerous times. I know began too roll and twist them more often when I most involved in sports age 11-18 and it corresponded with a higher degree of poping and ankle pain.
What kind of doctor should I try and be referred to? For some reason, no matter what the health issue is, every doctor in my area just wants to write prescriptions and not solve the problem. It's really frustrating.
if you have per. tendon dislocations, make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who is an ankle specialist. everyone else is just trained to ice and elevate, and most regular orthopedic surgeons will just cast you with the hopes of it healing. this needs surgery, and especially with chronic cases it doesn't usually heal from immobilization
hello.. my doctor said it's not an emergency that i should have it operated.. but the thing is its just super annoying everytime i walk since i don't know when it will pop especially when i'm running.. so ? is my doctor right? i'm 17 btw and i do a lot of physical activities and my way of preventing it is byvwearing an ankle bracd
I have Peroneus longus Pain after doing a Half Marathon. Usually this happens if I don't stretch my hips and activate my Glutes and Hamstrings properly before my run resulting in poor body mechanics. I have ankle popping as well but if I do my stretches and mobility work it goes away. The problem is in the Hips and Pelvis and the type of shoes and how they are tied and warn. Different types of shoes are meant for different things and.. they matter. Go see a Physical Therapist specifically a sports therapist who will give you exercises and stretches to do that strengthen your body properly and this issue might go away for you as well.
I had a gym accident a week ago and no my ankles pop non stop and my left ankle feels loose. It was swollen/bruised for 3 days. So does that mean I tore my ligament or tendon?
I don't know what exactly I have, or whether it even IS THIS, but my ankles have cracked loudly since about 10 years old. I can crack both of them every few minutes if I want to. It doesn't hurt even a bit, and it's kinda fun to do. It just makes it IMPOSSIBLE for me to sneak or move around stealthily at night. I could never be a burglar! I used to try and sneak into my folks room and steal our two small dogs from the foot of the bed, but they'd hear my noisy ankles popping and run up higher on the bed before could grab them. Oh well. It's become a part of who I am now, and I couldn't imagine them NOT popping all the time. I love my crackly ankles, and I wouldn't change them!
I once had a sore aching feeling in my ankle so I bent my foot back on a stool until it popped. It really hurt but once it popped I felt a great release of pressure and the aching feeling was gone.
All the videos that I have watched as far as a popping tendon go to the tendon on the outer park of the ankle. That is not where I am having the popping noise. I'm having it at what feels like the top of the foot. About 1in below where the foot meets the leg.
If the groove holding the tendons in place is to shallow, and I am a very competitive footballer (soccer player) do you believe it would effect my football in any way?
Im a skater. Don’t exactly remember rolling my ankle, however it’s been cracking with no have being for about a 2 months. The cracking now is hurting very badly. And it is very loud.
Is this typically resolved by surgery ? In my case it hurts , I have been to three podiatrist and an orthopedist surgeon and they had no idea what it is and they just dismissed it as no big deal issue , now I know what it is , next time they try to dismiss me I am gonna show them this video.
Question…. What if my ankles don’t pop normally when I walk or something but I can move and make the sound on command? Like should I not do that? Will it mess something up?
I had this pop on my left ankle maybe once a week. Now knowing, I probably have a tad shallow groove. Didn't think of it much and I can live with it fine. Now that I have sprained my ankle about a month a go, I'm getting this almost everyday. Do I need surgery?
Sorry this is a late replay but I'm a 16 year old who has had this going on for 8 years now( misdiagnosed many times) the "popping" you feel should be happing quiet often for me every time I flex my foot my tendons subluxate(pop) when I walk you can see my tendons coming out with every step I take and also hear the pop and can see it. If your not experiencing it that often I wouldn't be too worried about it. Mine almost right away started doing it countless times with in minuets and with every step I took.
for some time now every time i walk i hear a loud click in my left foot. I have previously fractured a bone in my foot about 7 years ago. sometimes it gets quieter and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. should i be worried. its really annoying me
Vey good video. A few days ago I was playing tennis planted for a shot (RH backhand) and felt a painful pop in my left ankle. I couldn't keep playing, but the pop (with pain) has been going on every once in a while since then. I can walk OK. It does seem better than when it happened 4 days ago. I'm hoping with rest it will be ok. Any advice?
I have this problem but it was brought on by rolling my ankle during squash, a high impact racquet sport. I took a few weeks off and now I play squash with an ankle brace but it still bothers me even after a full year. Any suggestions?
so im 10 and ever since i was 2 i have done this, it does not hurt at all. i dont want to get surgrery to stop it though. i can only crack my right ankle, and my doctor even checked my ankle if i was really okay, and my ankle isn't damaged. so..
So I’ve sprained both my ankles a lot over the years playing basketball, and because of that everytime I move my foot in circles it pops or putting my foot to the side “the way you sprain your ankle on the outside” it pops loud. Used to be fun popping them but now I’m concerned 🤔
I have a pulsation on the outside ankle pinky side like here, to the side and above it. What is that, an artery or vein? No injuries, I can just see it through the skin all the time.
When moving the trampoline my ankle cracked cause how my ankle was when doing it it I think I cracked my lateral malleolus it hurt when it cracked only when I moved certain ways it hurts it’s on the right side of my right ankle so hopefully it will heal fast
I'm 16 and my left ankle cracks about four times a day. I lift my foot about 80 degrees off the ground with my heel planted and i hear a loud crack. I have no pain in my foot and don't recall ever spraining or damaging it badly. Is this something to be worried about?
Well, thanks to this video, i know that's not what i have, but i still get pain in the one that attaches on the same side that it runs, as well as pain on the Extensor digitorum longus at about the ankle. I'm hoping to God it's tendonitis and not tendonosis. Goes away, comes back, goes away, comes back. I had a history of tendonitis in the digitorum tendons closer to the toes, too. At least, now, i know what i do NOT have, so i thank you for your video.
This was helpful I started to notice constant pops on my left ankle region Sometimes feel that leg is weaker or maybe bad walking posture or something. Are there any repercussions for not getting a surgery. I cannot afford it o
I have the problem for last One year... and paine in my leg side and up side.... And after this 1 month i am stopped the ticking now nothing sound but litle paine... Iam doing physio therapy now.... I belive it will be ok
......... both of mines always pop and there is always pain....... but only when I have one of my foot over the other. Which doesnt hurt itself but when I bend my foot forward to stretch. It pops and hurts.
Yo I was in a car accident and after that my ankles (both of them) started clicking. It’s been like this for 3 years and it’s getting super annoying and I’m about to cut my feet off (I’m joking) do you have any advice
Aside from the pop , I have stress on my ankle I can feel it from years rolling my ankle and not exactly the best healing. What can I do? I feel like I need someone to adjust it , like a chiropractor
I sprained my ankle on two different occasions when I was 40 years age .Now I am 70 . I am suffering from chronic ankle pain for the past 8 years. Consulted many ortho doctors . Some doctors say it is due to ankle arthritis.Of late I can hear distinct popping sound between talus and tibea when I walk between . Docs say surgery is the only solution.I am damn scared of pain and immobilisation after surgery. Can someone please advice if surgery the only option to relieve the pain permanently or some better option is available ? Thank you.
What the heck this is like mine my ankle/foot is like hers! My doc has give me homecare physio to do ankle exercises and come back 5-6 weeks after but I urged to him to meet me in 3 weeks especially if not better, but when I walk or rotate it cracks is this what I got???
I play semi-pro soccer player, will there be any long term effect if I continue to play through the discomfort,i mean its bearable but it get annoying whenever I have to stop every 5mins to pop it back in place
I'm having surgery for this issue in 2 weeks. The doctor said he will reshape the ostrigonum. Is that correct? Procedure to be done is ankle posterior arthroscopy
same to me. Now I suffering for 5 years can’t walk or lift my foot because it comes more chronic. Every month will be hurt depend on how i using my leg. How can i fix it 😢 i also quit my job because to much absent 😞
the popping doesn't hurt it's just annoying, every single time i walk down stairs if my home my ankles always pop like so it's pretty hard to sneak in the middle of the night to get food
Taehyung's Bae hahaha same 😂😂
Lol same
Taehyung's Bae true
ok omg I have a trick for that. I literally pop every part of my ankle intentionally by walking around my room. Once you’ve done that you’re free to sneak some food😂
Just get treatment or surgery before you regret popping them because everytime they pop it damages your ankle
I've had this for years. I can pop it anytime and it doesn't hurt
Might want to see a doctor, each time it pops it damages the tendon a little bit which can lead to the tendon fraying or even tearing. Had the same problem after a bad ankle injury had to get it fixed two months ago
how did u get it fixed? and how long was the recoevery?
i had surgery and it takes about 6-9 months depending on the shape of the bone. but you have to keep in mind that the severity of the injury determines how long the recovery time is and mine was pretty bad.
Person Name thanks for replying man, your post was from 8 months ago too. i think i have tendonitis in my right and a subluxation in my left but i have to get it checked out this Monday
no problem, and that's rough hope it goes well
Don't worry Dr, there are dislikes because people dislike for no reason, I feel like everything is said perfectly in an easy to understand way
I have had this all my life starting as a pre-teen. I drives me crazy. I can't sneak up on anyone!

Yup!
The people who disliked this video probably dont have ankles. Sad truth
This looks to be exactly what my problem has been all my life of 59 years. Thank you!
U don’t hurt ?
Both of my ankles snap very loudly when I walk. Especially bare foot. snap.. snap snap.... It's really just annoying and I wish it would go away.

I recommend you all to know that you all need treatment or surgery because your basically damage your ankle
Ahh, the joys of aging.
same
Everything pops
I've had it since a child. It's amazing how loud mine pops!
I've always been able to do this and never known why. Thanks for explaining!
i had peroneal tendon surgery back in november 2012 at 17yrs old to repair a badly torn tendon (broke that ankle and it healed incorrectly and repeated sprains prior to operation) and a year later had to go back to an orthopedic surgeon for the same pre-surgery complaint and an MRI showed the tendon is once again torn and just recently i've been experiencing increased laxity and every step i take, i feel and hear a popping going on. it doesn't help that i work retail and during our shifts we aren't allowed to sit unless we are on break.
long story short, thank you for the video Dr. Lam! having more insight is helpful in management because i'm hesitating another surgery due to college and work.
I'll definitely look into that, Thank you!
***** both of my ankles pop and I am a dancer but it doesn't hurt but I feel it, it pops sometimes when I walk and sometimes when I dance please help

I’m not sure if it’s sciatica or what.
l like poping my ankle feels good for some reason
AfroNobi 忍 same!
Same but reading that its bad as it wear down the tendon.
lmao that profile pic 😂 but fr i like to pop it too but i stopped doing that for a while cuz it wears it down

@@jetzcruz3929 Six years on and ankle's the same as it ever was
My ankle literally snaps every step I take.
I am 15 and this popping noise just started a few weeks ago
It does not hurt but almost every step on my right ankle it is so loud or when I rotate it
Is there any way to stop this pop
if it is the tendon, popping peroneal syndrome is only fixed via surgery.

How long is the recovery time after surgery?

Mine pops only when i want it to.. ive been popping my ankle on demand since i was a kid.
James Porter its uncomefortable though
James Porter ye i do the same thing now and I was curious what it was and then I searched it up it sounds more serious than I thought it would be
@@alfiemckerracher4648 same here, I dunno what to do

I've never sprained my ankles but i can crack in command again and again until I get tired of it. Is this normal ?
Phanic! At the Chemical romance
me too. And I like the crack but now I'm wondering if I'm messing myself up
Phanic! At the Chemical romance im 26 years old and my ankles pop amd crack like crazy when walking up stairs or i can make them do it its never hurt me or caused any pain
Great explanation and demo of the tendon movement. Is there any danger to the patient if they have this condition, i.e. the tendon moves?
I've always thought of my ankles as really weak, I roll them all the time. They give out on me. Been on crutches once for rolling them just from stepping off of step, and I stepped carefully due to this and still rolled it and heard a very audible snap! There was once, I was on a step stool near a fryer, I work with food, and as I stepped down, my ankle gives out and my hand damn near went into the oil. But the most annoying, and slightly painful, not too mention uncomfortable feeling is when I flex my feet and it feels like my ankle pops out of place. I'm almost sure this is what the deal is! I just now had to snap everything back into place, by using a step ladder, and ballet plies...oh and I had to suppress a scream due to living in an apartment!
every time I roll my ankle it pops. a lot of my family has the same thing, so I honestly thought it was normal
i sprained my ankle about 2 weeks after im getting these popping sounds.
I sprained my ankle a year ago and it never has really been the same and i get this? is there any way i could get this repaired?
i think i may have this or something like it earlier this year i was bowling in a league and on my approch my anckle gave way and i had about 20 -30 pops and then pain ever since turning my ankle certian ways and when it pops its loud and hurts
this happens to me sometimes but when it pops i get instant pain and i have to limp and sit down and stretch my ankle as the doctor shows here and i hear the pop and immediately the pain goes away. since this started happening i seem to get a swelling on my ankle on the upper ankle where my foot curves to my lower leg. it looks like a oval bag and feels like two thick bands under the skin. usually will have it for a few weeks with minimal pain
Exact same thing happens to me!! How is it going now, what did you do to fix it
@@balcken5932 not really sure. It just stopped happening after awhile but I had cut down on sugar and salt. Noticed extra swelling went away.
I've had this all my life and my hips do it too it doesn't hurt but should I be doing something about it
j w no
Yes, I know this was only one year ago lol if you still haven't consult your doctor but if you have hopefully it got better :D
It’s annoying sometimes but I don’t want it to stop
Hey, hope I can add to this a little. From what I find clinically, clicking ankles are usually just a product of some mechanical restrictions in and around the ankle joint. Sorting it out is often as simple as looking for, and releasing these areas, allowing the tendons that click to return to normal function.
Here's a simple video that covers some basic exercises to rectify these hidden features. Hope it helps!

I can pop my left achilles at times when i move my toes towards my shin, it feels awesome. Should i stop doing it?
😂🤦🏽♂️
You forgot the “popping” sound
Great explanation. I just suffered an ankle injury a few days ago after getting thrown off a dirt bike. The orthopedist I saw has me in an aircast until my x-rays next week. I noticed the popping in that same ankle today now that the swelling has gone down. Will be sure to let her know on my next visit. if surgery is needed, how long is the normal recovery time?
Did you need surgery
I had a large cutting board fall right on my lateral malleolus about a year ago and my ankle started popping right after. Now I've been having leg, knee pain, like my leg from the lateral malleolus to my knee aches.
Hey ,I am a medical student, I would really like to know what the problem was and how it was treated (hopefully if you got better)
When I move or rotate or just walk my ankle always cracks and when it cracks and I rotate again it cracks
I can crack my ankles many times in a row. been able to since a kid too. only get uncomfortable after doing it several times
suz k 😂 same here. I wonder if we will have any negative effects later on once old 🤔🤔🤔?
Me too
My left ankle pops but its not the outer ligament it's more like an inner ligament that's popping where his hand is
Same problem . Could you please tell me WT to do
What kind of doctor should I try and be referred to? For some reason, no matter what the health issue is, every doctor in my area just wants to write prescriptions and not solve the problem. It's really frustrating.
if you have per. tendon dislocations, make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who is an ankle specialist. everyone else is just trained to ice and elevate, and most regular orthopedic surgeons will just cast you with the hopes of it healing. this needs surgery, and especially with chronic cases it doesn't usually heal from immobilization

Since i twisted very bad my ankle (didn’t break) my left foot keep doing it very loudly. Every time it cracks, i feel like it wears out
I once had a sore aching feeling in my ankle so I bent my foot back on a stool until it popped. It really hurt but once it popped I felt a great release of pressure and the aching feeling was gone.
***** My ankle is fine now. Thanks.
Jon Haymaker how it work sir ? I suffered it for 5 years 😢
All the videos that I have watched as far as a popping tendon go to the tendon on the outer park of the ankle. That is not where I am having the popping noise. I'm having it at what feels like the top of the foot. About 1in below where the foot meets the leg.
How would this problem be corrected? Assuming the problem is a shallow bone on both ankles rather than a torn tendon.
Mine pop all the time and they don’t hurt. It’s just loud, and kinda feels good!
If the groove holding the tendons in place is to shallow, and I am a very competitive footballer (soccer player) do you believe it would effect my football in any way?
No, only your foot.
Will it mess something up?

like when i move my ankle in a circle it pops
Thank you so much ! Finally I know what is wrong with my ankle...
I have previously fractured a bone in my foot about 7 years ago. sometimes it gets quieter and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. should i be worried. its really annoying me

so im 10 and ever since i was 2 i have done this, it does not hurt at all. i dont want to get surgrery to stop it though. i can only crack my right ankle, and my doctor even checked my ankle if i was really okay, and my ankle isn't damaged. so..
So I’ve sprained both my ankles a lot over the years playing basketball, and because of that everytime I move my foot in circles it pops or putting my foot to the side “the way you sprain your ankle on the outside” it pops loud. Used to be fun popping them but now I’m concerned 🤔
My right foot does that when I move my foot all the way up to my knees and rotate it right to left. It's just a bad habit
It doesn't hurt, but its so annoying everything you do like when you stand up your feet will pop and can't even sneak to someone
I crack my angles everyday it's good I sujest it for people
Shouldn't we look for the cause before doing surgery? Perhaps there are muscle imbalances and or/gait problems that need to be addressed?

I'm 16 and my left ankle cracks about four times a day. I lift my foot about 80 degrees off the ground with my heel planted and i hear a loud crack. I have no pain in my foot and don't recall ever spraining or damaging it badly. Is this something to be worried about?
What if you have pain & swelling with the constant loud cracks & discomfort
Well, thanks to this video, i know that's not what i have, but i still get pain in the one that attaches on the same side that it runs, as well as pain on the Extensor digitorum longus at about the ankle. I'm hoping to God it's tendonitis and not tendonosis. Goes away, comes back, goes away, comes back. I had a history of tendonitis in the digitorum tendons closer to the toes, too. At least, now, i know what i do NOT have, so i thank you for your video.
What if it feels better after a pop like this build up to it ugh it gives me anxiety to pop it too.

Also, does your doctor have to recommend that you go to a podiatrist or can do like a walk in?
