While it’s a shame we didn’t get to see every incarnation doing the scene, having it every ten years feels extra special. It also reiterates that Hartnell isn’t looking at any one doctor here, it’s just the show’s ongoing legacy and future since then
I totally think they should just have every current doctor do the scene and all scenes be available on the Doctor Who website or something for people to look back on all the alternate takes
Dude, this isn’t replacing history? It’s updating it so that the message stands the rest of time, which is what the Director, Mark Gatiss wanted to happen
@@TheZebbga The official Doctor Who TH-cam channel has both available. The DVD and BluRay releases they made back them also have Matt Smith. Only the newer ones will have Ncuti Gatwa.
I thought I read somewhere 10 years ago that this was entirely the point of filming the original the way they did instead of having Matt Smith physically on set. As an American, I'm not sure I have access to the updated version, but hopefully each version gets preserved as these clips by themselves tell the story of Doctor Who.
I don’t really mind it even though this was part of the BBC exclusive part of the anniversary celebration that international fans like me didn’t get to see which is why I say for international fans the anniversary celebration was lackluster due to so much of it being bbc exclusive even though I know it’s a British show first it just feels like we are being overlooked
Really bums me out that we haven't seen every Doctor since Matt do it, unless they have and its never been seen. I mean hell, Imagine if they got David Bradley to do one as well for his few episodes he appeared in, the scene would've been David Bradley playing William Hartnell playing The Doctor looking over at David Bradley playing William Hartnell's version of the Doctor 😂
@@thewholook He's only been in one episode and what would be the point of him looking over at himself? The whole point of the scene is for the first Doctor to be looking to the future. Having him look to himself would completly change the meaning from an optimistic view of the future to "I never should been recast, nothing after Hartnel is canon anymore."
@@RialVestro he's appeared in 3 overall, 1 as a cameo, 1 as a starring and 1 as a guest, 2 with Capaldi, 1 with Jodie, but I meant it more as a joke that it would be funny, not being serious about having him look at himself
I had no problem with them put it in the 15th doctor but I had far less emotional impact because we've not seen him on screen yet or had the time in with him like we did with Matt when the original version came out especially since in that case he was about to vacate the role and we all knew it was about to happen much like when William Hartnell is about to regenerate in that scene. My biggest problem with the new edit of this film is that because of the rights issues tied up in court over unearthly child more than 15 minutes for trimmed out of the film. I wish they would have waited to do this and instead put David Tennant in that spot during the 60th anniversary which would have made a lot more emotional sense since in a way David Tennant was sort of parking that doctor and about to regenerate. I don't want to say that the 60th anniversary was quite a train wreck but nearly so certainly a derailment
Well, it just... Have sense. I don't know why some people got angry. That is not the Matt scene, is the first and last Doctors scene, basically a template.
It's unfortunate timing that it occured before Ncuti even has a season under his belt. When Matt appeared in that scene he had already been the Doctor for three years. Any casual viewer watching that could be forgiven for thinking "who the hell is that guy?" Alternatively would you want to have Jodie? No, clearly not, since her tenure was one of a downhill trend in the show's popularity. On the whole then, I think the change was a misstep. This was not a good time to have a 60th anniversary, but you can't choose when to have an anniversary because calendars and maths don't lie, but whilst the future looks so uncertain Doctor Who is in no position to be self-congratulatory at the present time.
They stuck Capaldi's eyebrows into the Day of the Doctor for like 2 seconds and the entire fandom went nuts. I don't think there'd be a problem with any viewer being confused about who it was.
@@chinareds54 The message of the eyebrows was not "do not worry; the legacy is in safe hands" and the imagery can only symbolise "safe hands" if the icon has already proven themselves to be "safe hands".

It was already planned to swap out Matt Smith for future Doctors? Well, that's alright then. Seriously, I have no issue with it if that was the plan from the start.
Yes the background is reused, but edited, it’s Ncutis scene that was new footage in front of a green screen, both Matt and Ncuti filmed it on green screens though so there are technically 3 versions of this scene, I’d quite like to see the original without any doctor doing it, the one where Gatiss is a stand in, but I don’t think there’s footage (that I’m aware of)
Yeah it was a shame but from what I understand it was all because of the rights issue for the episode vs BBC so they took it out this time, I imagine if it ever gets sorted we'll see the full version again
What I'd like to see done with this scene is a transition from the first doctor to all his subsequent incarnations, and they just add the current doctor to the end each time. Probably too expensive for the BBC, though.
Personally I found it lazy, with a hint of arrogance - pretty much Gatiss in a nutshell. I don't think spinning up a new documentary every 10 years is too much to ask from a company we in the Uk are enforced by the police to pay for. @@LETZZPLAY Why would they purposefully drag out a piece of media made a decade ago just to edit over the actor who appeared in an effort to "modern day" it? Why isn't Gatwa worthy of his own material instead of them trying to rewrite a piece from the past? It's bigotry.
