This was a fantastic show. Had me all choked up in 50 ways. It was hard enough seeing "Hartnell" reach underneath one last time to turn on the TARDIS, and then to have him look up and see Smith was just something more. I think though that it might have been just a teensy bit better to see all the surviving Doctors rather than just the current one, no disrespect to Smith of course.
This one came on here in Australia after the day of the Doctor and fitted in really well. I find it interesting that William Hartnell was the man they described for Dr Who, old stern man that people respected and a hint of magic. To see him at the start and connecting with his grand daughter and interacting with the kids in the park. He totally em brasses the role and I think that came across on screen, He is the original doctor you might say. It certainly has become an adventure indeed Mr Hartnell.
I wish the producers at BBC would do the series like this An Adventure in Space and Time, with actors that look like the original cast . Going retro could take the show into a different adventure .
I really hope more missing episodes are found. I would love to see more of William Hartnell. Even if the lines are wrong, the tapes are worth more than gold.
Man, I hope this doc comes out on a dvd of An Adventure of Space and Time. Just watched the movie for the 5th time and still blubbering. What a masterpiece!
I would love to see Carol Ann Ford as a guest star, maybe a recurring role, on Doctor Who in the future. She played the Doctor's granddaughter. So presumably she's a Time Lord (Lady) also. So why not have them bump into each other again? What if they disagree on something important and have to work that out? Seems like it'd be great fun and drama and science fiction. -- And I am glad to see the actor who played William Hartwell from the special, is returning again for the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special. He did a fine job and it was, and will be, great to see.
I'm not the greatest Dr Who fan in the world.....but last nights full drama was BRILLIANT !!! , I love to watch bio/docu drama's and this one did NOT disappoint , It was a lovely touch having Matt Smith appear in the ending of the show.....I hope this is going to be repeated on BBC 3 or BBC 4 , Great work from the makers !!!!
Having been born after the original show's run came to an end my only experiance with doctor who had been re-runs on UKTV gold and the videos the small number of videos that we had around the house, one of those being a box-set involving 2 omnibuses with the Daleks. The first one of the 2 that i watched was Sylvester Mccoys (7) "rememberence of the daleks", but the other one was William Hartnells "the chase". Watching this just brought back all those memories of watching the hartnell run, and seeing how much he embraced the role (knowing how the set should be run better than the replacement producer and technician was fun) and how much fun he was having doing it. I got teary eyed at the end, knowing the events that were going to happen of course, but it just hit it home. Hartnell made the doctor, and the doctor saved him. The scene at the end with the "i don't want to go" (a reference to numero 10-ant) just hit me. The cast chosen for this docudrama were perfect and i aplaude you all. This was truly a laboure of love for the doctor, and it deffinantly shows. :)
Great, great show. Thank you Mark Gatiss for allowing us an insight into another time. Beautifully realised, it was great to see some of the stars of the original series there as well. And that final scene - clever and poignant. Really good and I hope it gets the awards it deserves!
I loved the shot of Hartnell on the screen and in the background you can see the Daleks set up for the Power of the Daleks shot in the ship. That was so cool to me first time I saw it
This really was watching British Mad Men! I love every part of this. It was all brilliant. Loved the Matt Smith cameo. What an honor it must be for William Bradley to have played The Doctor with such perfection in this program, and now to be able to actually play the 1st Doctor in Doctor Who! Also, God bless you Carole Ann Ford.

I watched the movie tonight and I have to say what a wonderful film it is. The end was very emotional, I am not ashamed to say I shed a few tears. The cast, direction and writing was wonderful, but in particular David Bradley's performance was magnificent and very touching!
The Day of the Doctor was good but this was absolutely stunning in every way and was a real tribute to the Doctor's 50th. If Bradley doesn't get an award along with the amazing Mr Gatiss then I will be greatly disappointed.
The whole production was a labour of love from start to finish. The actors were wonderful and the attention to detail was so exact. That console room set actually looked better than the original and I'd love to know which broadcast museum they hauled all that antique equipment out of for this film. An excellent celebration of the programme's legacy. Especially toward the end.
Rest In Peace William Hartnell. and Thank you for helping start a legacy

I think though that it might have been just a teensy bit better to see all the surviving Doctors rather than just the current one, no disrespect to Smith of course.
I love that they got the cast of this movie to do the voice work in the “Fist Doctor Adventures” for Big Finish!
Who’s here to see Sacha Dhawan after watching today’s episode of “Doctor Who”?
Hahahaha the Master! Lol
Manmeet! Davos!
The Master has been trying to mess with things behind the scenes from the very beginning.
Apparently Mark Gatiss got that wig for his Third Doctor outfit at the same place they got Sylvester McCoy's wig for Time and The Rani
Is that the same place where McGann got HIS wig for the TV Movie and Smith the one for his final episode?
timrob12 it was
Alex Robinson Whoever made those wigs should start a shop, selling real wigs used by the Doctors.
yes
Two movies that I've seen gave me LOTS of feels. This one, and the Rock-afire Explosion documentary from 2009. Happy 52nd birthday, Doctor Who!
Moffat and Gatiss have been some of the luckiest fans in the world. Almost breathtaking
ugh, love david bradley so much. he's diverse and is a fantastic actor. i'm really excited to go see this when i get the chance!
Great programme. Met David Bradley in 2017, lovely gentleman.
This was great made me cry :')
Last month I was 60 and remember watching the first episode. The future has arrived and watching this is like travelling back through time myself.
This is like Mad Men meets Doctor Who and it's awesome :D
More like Mad Men starts Doctor Who and it sticks.
Man, I hope this doc comes out on a dvd of An Adventure of Space and Time. Just watched the movie for the 5th time and still blubbering. What a masterpiece!
Such a great special
Thank you to every one who was involved in this,a fantastic job!!
David Bradley is a fitting actor to take over the role of the First Doctor. Hope to see him in the future as the First Doctor.
this is behind the scene of the behind the scene :D
oh hey look its the master.
Wow the master took part in the creation of doctor who, that scheming man!
DAvid Bradley should play the 1st Doctor in an episode along Peter Capaldi's!
With The actors who portrayed Ian, Susan And Barbara.
Brian Palmer I take it you're ecstatic for Christmas
Brian Palmer someone is happy
its almost like you knew :P
You got it
he knew it
Having been born after the original show's run came to an end my only experiance with doctor who had been re-runs on UKTV gold and the videos the small number of videos that we had around the house, one of those being a box-set involving 2 omnibuses with the Daleks.
I knew I saw the master of Jodie Whitaker before Sasha dhawan
I loved the shot of Hartnell on the screen and in the background you can see the Daleks set up for the Power of the Daleks shot in the ship. That was so cool to me first time I saw it
It was more than perfect. I love it! what a great script, mark, well done!
Love it love it love it... "disappearing bloody Police Boxes for god's sake!..." FABULOUS. Thank you Mark Gatiss, thank you Bretton Hall where we were both educated!
That in a word was AWESOME!
The more I see, the more I'm wanting to see.
Happy 50th Doctor.
A New Incarnation!
i still maintain the show existing is a fixed point no other explanation for how this show could have survived that premire
I'm so excited what will happen in 50 years. I hope so much that Doctor Who will be still running and that they make a hell of a special. And who knows what the next doctors be like?
Would love Peter Capaldi to just burst in and be like "You're making a documentary..about a documentary drama..based on a drama? The inception could fracture the space time continuum in seven different ways!"
i loved this when it went out i cried like a baby at the end wouldnt be at all surprise if it scoops up awards mark gatiss you are a flipping genius what a perfect tribute to doctor who
Finished watching this early this eve...one of the single best docu-dramas (with heart felt humor as well) I have EVER seen...plus, the final scene made me literally choke up whole both smiling and crying a bit...can't recommend it enough...I LOVED it...
I just finished watching this documentary and in the end I really did cry feeling so happy! So I know how you feel >.
i love William Hartnell. Not just from Doctor Who. But also Carry on Sergeant.
The perfect companion to the 50th anniversary. It was simply beautiful.
brings a tear to my eye!!
the best dr who episode ever... so beautifully done
This biopic was amazing! Moved me to tears! I love this show and I hope that it'll still be around for another 50 years and more!
I watched the movie tonight and I have to say what a wonderful film it is. The end was very emotional, I am not ashamed to say I shed a few tears. The cast, direction and writing was wonderful, but in particular David Bradley's performance was magnificent and very touching!
Agreed, he deserves a BAFTA award for Best Actor.
Especially toward the end.
i love the fact that David Bradley is now playing William Hartnell Who is the 1st Doctor!
This brought a tear to my eye happy birthday Doctor Who
I hope someone does a retrospective documentary about this behind the scenes film in 50 years...
