Imo the changes they made to the plot were for the better physics wise. The line Zuko says "you rise with the moon, I rise with the sun" is cartoon physics. No way the sun rises up that quickly in real-time. That got cut. Also Katara and Zuko fighting somewhere else not in the Oasis makes more sense to allow Zhao to be at same time trying to kill the Moon spirit. Speeds things up given I think Netflix still did a good job with the 8 episodes they had.

have you guys heard of the theory that states that Princess Yue was supposed to be the next avatar after Aang? Yue was supposed to have Raava's spirit in her when she was born , but Aang was still technically alive in the iceberg , which meant that Raava never got reincarnated into Yue , hence she was born spiritless and was helped by the moon spirit .... Just a theory at this point but its a goddamn wild one!

    • @XanafiedcatGaming

But if Aang didn't get frozen he would have most likely died anyway and when a Avatar dies a new one is born around a week later. Yue wasn't even born for another 84 years (she is 16 so she would have been born 84 years after Aang got frozen). Aang would have to live to be around 96 years if Yue was going to be the next Avatar. Not impossible just unlikely and with all the other mysteries the spirit world has she could have lost her spirit or had a very weak spirit due to some other cause.

One thing they set up in the beginning was Aang skipping out on training and being afraid of hurting people. He’s been hesitant to begin the other disciplines while embracing the helping others part of being the Avatar. It doesn’t help that the other disciplines aren’t quite as defensive focused as airbending, which he already knew was capable of hurting others. Plus, they don’t know about the comet yet.

I did not know the creator since rescinded his response to leaving. It's good to know, relieves some pressure of feeling like its wrong to watch. I know I shouldn't feel that way but cant always help it. When Momo got it I freaked out, but I actually am glad cause it gave a worthy reason to head to the oasis. I was hoping Zhao would of been taken by the ocean spirit so it could in the future connect him to Korra if they ever decided to do her story as well. But thats ok. The Ocean monster was insane and I am happy with the result! A lot of the quotes were direct from the season finale. Even Zuko saying he's tired. I got to hand it to the actor who did Zuko. The emotion and skill we got from him, I am so impressed. He is the best choice they made. Iroh being the next. Overall, I am actually fairly pleased with the season. I understand a lot of the artistic adaptations, most made sense or they made it work smoothly. My only gripe is Bumi, but I have since cooled on it. With how so much has progressed and done well I feel confident in heading into the next season when it returns.

the one thing that i've been keeping in mind for the costumes not getting dirty after fights and such, is that in the animated show it was rarely dirtied for ease of animating. there were still moments where they showed tears or filth but it wasn't a constant visual for EVERY fight. still brought me out of immersion sometimes but it was also easy to just accept it as fact in this version of the world

The Spirit only left him after the moon spirit came back, he gave control over to the Ocean Spirit similarly to how he gives control to other Avatars, but the Ocean spirit's objective wasn't to just swish away a few people and then live peacefully without it's friend

Overall, I think the live action was fine (as a child, I’d be eating this up and watching it religiously lol) but I think it shines the best when it doesn’t try to directly replicate specific lines and actions point for point, and instead does it’s own unique take. Koh's mother is NOT dead. I mean, we are talking about the Mother of Faces, the spirit that crafts the faces for every being and brought identity into existance. If anything was to happen to her, who knows what could happen. Maybe the next generation of beings would be born without faces and, therefore, without an identity. Or maybe every being would lose their faces and be deprived of their identity. Koh's reason to be upset for Roku to steal the totem of his mother was because it allowed him to feel close to her. Koh misses his mother, being the reason why he steals faces, since they are pieces of her work.

I was initially surprised by the overall scores (anticipated everyone being in the 8 range based on how much fun you three were having). Once I sat back and reflected upon the commentary and constructive criticisms you shared over the course of these 8 episodes, the scores made a lot more sense. Being critical of something you enjoy doesn't mean it wasn't a fun journey and this adaptation was a fun journey with some interesting changes and pockets of compelling performances. Hopefully they'll take the triumphant from this season into season two and especially give Aang some better writing.

All of the original scenes that were written for this show were great, and they added on so many little details and bits of context that really deepen the world. Its very funny and witty and perhaps the greatest representation of indigenous culture we have today. But also the actress who plays Gran Gran is in it, as well as the actress that plays Yue makes a guest appearance in Season 2 and her character in that was quite hilarious. I found it appropriate that they mostly casted Indigenous actors to represent the Water Nation.

for me it was a 9 out of 10, because of 2 reasons, first, Zhao died and can't return in Korra (if ever would be one) in the way we know it! and died so soon so he didn't see the moon coming back to life...
Secondly, some heavy episodes were mixed into one, so we didn't get an northern airtemple episode and we haven't been introduced to pirates (yet!) All in all , I loved it and I think the spirit episode was actually better than the original! Of course I don't need to talk about the visual effects in this masterpiece.

Attention to detail was one of fundamentals in cartoon for example how Sokka and Katara took Toph by her hand when they needed to run away and there was no hard ground under them and how Katara took Momo's big ears down when they was sticking out when 5hey were hiding in one episode and so much more!
Dialogues sometimes was taken straight out of the arse especially stiff Katara, and mostly that is not actors fault, it's damn writing...
Could complain about hour from now but I still did like this adaptation mostly bc of Zuzu and Iroh (this was their story) and I love it 7/10

I definitely enjoyed it. I always find remakes or whatever to be so interesting when I already know the story because just when I think I know how things are gonna play out, even the slightest change can mean big things. In all honesty, there’s very little that comes to mind that I would complain about. In fact, unless I saw what those were specifically, I can’t even remember what bothered me now. The only one that comes to mind is that I kind of feel that they ran Aang blaming himself for leaving all those years ago into the ground. I liked Bumi and Kiyoshi throwing it in his face, but it seemed like almost every other line was Aang shaming himself for his lack of involvement all those years ago. At the very least, it was a relief when he’s finally given the conclusion that the past is the past, but he’s still around to shape the future. I still expect it to be brought up, but I hope that he’s not the one who brings it up as much from this point on.

This show was 100000% better than the movie. My only criticism i have is that Katara has no more room for growth and made her a "master" in season 1. A few episodes ago she couldnt do a whip so i dont feel she has had enough time to become a master. A prodigy may be, but certainly not a master. Mastery takes time, effort, and proper training. I would feel a lot better if Paku said Aang couldnt ask for a better teacher to still alow her time to become stronger.

Mike and Bryan are a lot like George Lucas, they are great world-builders, but not necessarily great writers. It seems like the more control they have over the writing, the worse their product is. They're at their best when they have other writers helping out with the script. So yeah, the live action show wasn't great, but I don't think Mike and Bryan could have saved it. I think it would have been a lot better if they had 12-16 episodes.

There's 2 whole episodes after that that shows her growing in skill. And 4 episodes afterwards for her to be considered a master. She wasn't a master right after talking to Jett.

But she is really strong, even in the original. Only person who was able to do better is avatar. Katara was a natural strong waterbender, and aside from some things that was shown in the show that she really struggled, she picked up a lot of technics really fast. Just as an example look at bloodbending episode, she was able to understand and learn how to do it in just couple minutes by watching someone else do it.
And as for thinking of good moments, Aang was right that after understanding how to waterbend she need to use emotions to give shape to waterbending forms, but because he was not listening he missed point of what exact emotions it needs to be. Jet's suggestion was just the push she needed to understand what exactly makes waterbending take the form she needs.

in the original, it has been approximately 2 week long time period between pakku's accepting her as a student and fire nations attack. and after that we dont know how long she stayed and trained by him until they leave.
what im trying to say is, even in the original, having a teacher was never a big factor at her becoming a master. the biggest factor was always her raw talent and ambition.

    • @SlimKim3
      @SlimKim3 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

In the animated show they never really go in depth of showing how she became a master waterbender either. It goes from her being accepted to train to then giving lessons to other warriors on how easily she can beat them.

Anyways, I personally found this adaption really enjoyable. Yes it has its problems but not enough for me to call it a fail. I know a lot will disagree but that's just my opinion. Overall, I'd give it a 7.4/10. Like somewhere between good to amazing. Closer to good.

What's gonna happen to the 41st crew in the next season? My ideas are they go the route of keeping them as a part of Zuko and Iroh's team or they go back to the Fire Nation, but secretly plant seeds to support Zuko as the rightful heir. It would make a good payoff from Zuko defending them back in the war room.

the momo scene didn't really get to me because I 100% knew they wouldn't just kill him off like that. it just wouldn't make any narrative sense. one theory I have for the "creative differences"/creators leaving is that they either removed or changed certain relationships, in part due to the age differences of some of the actors. notice how there's been zero aang/katara romance and those specific parts were changed, like the cave of two lovers, or ignored entirely, like the fortune teller. it would be interesting if they went a different route entirely with this adaptation, or leave certain people unpaired/ambiguous ending. depends if they plan to do a korra series I guess, because certain pairings would have to happen for that to work correctly. we'll see.

Also, non-bending parents can also produce a bender child. Hakoda and Kya are both non-benders but birthed Katara. Gran Gran isn't even a bender, so it could have come from any of the other three grandparents and skipped a generation.
