Fun fact: this movie is so bad it actually almost killed me. I was watching this movie at home and the bending was so bad I snorted and inhaled a piece of hotdog I was eating. I almost choked and no one was there to help because my mom was asleep.
It literally makes NO sense to change firebending to require a fire source. That's part of how they were able to take over, water and earthbenders need a source, and airbenders technically do as well but that's everywhere. Shyamalan firebenders would be every other element's bitch if anyone in this movie actually had braincells and just put out fires.
Ok so, the way I see the difference in the movie to the cartoon is, movie firenation: everyone can fire bend as long there is a fire source. ATLA cartoon: not all fire nation can fire bend.. those that can are powerful in that way. Making it kinda fare going up agaisnt basic soilders and not fire benders. In the movie its still just a basic soilder.. but if theres fire present then its bad.

watching the movie again I noticed that in the earth camp there is a guy cleaning "the floor" (which is literally the soil...) with a broom. BUT THE BROOM NEVER TOUCHES THE GROUND. And he's in TWO SCENES. When the gaang arrives and when zuko arrives. I laughed so hard.

When this was released in theaters I had a 1st date with a girl who was a huge Avatar fan. Maybe 20mins in I fell asleep and when I woke up the movie was unfortunately still playing but she was asleep too and most of the theater had left.

I mean, for me, Aang's name being mispronounced is not the most scary thing, since this is exactly how his name is pronounced in my language, but Iroh is a different story
I think what's messing this up is that although these names are pronounced correctly, it's a mix of the original names sound better, and there is a way to pronounce the names better however, everyone saying the names sounds like how an insensitive person would say the name. Like, someone mispronouncing because "Oh, Im not gonna try and be respectful and try to prnounce like how they pronounce it." Like, imo, the actor who played Iroh said his name actually good enough that it didn't hurt. Like, only that childhood feeling of hearing a name be said wrong got hurt. But underneath that, he said it with at least some inflection and some underlining sense of "I should at least try to pronounce it right." Everyone else saying each other names, sounds awkward and like someone who's never spoken another language before.

Something I’ve noticed in these live actions are they seem to never be able to make water bending look like it hurts when you get hit with it. It always just looks like splashes
I hate how this film's "canon" made firebending the shittiest bending style by not having any of the firebenders create fire. The entire reason why firebending in the cartoon is so scary is because they have basically infinite ammo and it can be used at any time anywhere. But by relying on an existing fire source, like the other benders, you make firebenders useless. Air is everywhere, water is everywhere, earth is everywhere, but not fire. What happens when the fire source gets extinguished, or the firebender gets too far away from it? They're fucked. Imagine the logistical nightmare that would be the airbender genocide in this film. Did the Fire Nation army just bring thousands of tortches with them up those mountains? Fire doesn't just occour naturally like water, so if you're a firebender caught out in the rain, you're automatically dead because your fire source - which your fighting ability is entirely dependant on - is rendered useless. Any random waterbender just wins automatically by dropping a wave on a bunch of Fire Nation soldiers. How does the war even happen in this world, let alone how is the Fire Nation "nearing victory?" I have some serious concerns about the congative health of the Water Tribe and Earth Kingdom leaders and generals.
Sometimes the way they mispronounce the names just feel like their purposefully doing it just to get on fan's nerves. The Bending in this movie is also hilariously stupid like they did all that synchronised dancing just to throw one rock. Honestly the only decent thing about this movie was probably the actor for Iroh and Dev Patel as Zuko who did the best he could do at such a young age and with such a bad script
I thought the blue spirit escape scene was decent too, the actor for Aang actually got to show his martial arts skills and there's very little awful dialogue.

I remember watching this in the theater with my mom and her girlfriend. As soon as the credits rolled, dead silence...except for my mom, going, "WHOO! YEAH! Good movie!" or something like that. That alone made everything else worth it - well, that and the Earth Kingdom Dance Troupe.
I was just seeing something like 2 days ago that the actor who played Aang actually loved the show and was very excited to do this, but afterwards he was getting a lot of hate mail and I think even death threats which drove him away from acting.

28:20 I read a cool theory online, that because Aang was frozen for 100Years the Cycle of Avatars went a bit of Balance. And from Korra we know the Avatar is a Spirit. So Yue was suppost to be the next Avatar, but Aang was still alive. So she needed another Spirit instead of the Avatars to live, thats why she became the moonspirit. So it is a correction of the Balance and wouldn´t upset it :^)
I'm also easily entertained, but this is one of two movies I left the theater mad at. The only reason i didn't walk out during is because i spent money on drink and popcorn with the ticket. Maleficent is the only other movie I was that upset at. Dragon Ball: Evolution i managed to enjoy with how stupid it was. This movie is just insulting.

I am a Filipino from the Philippines, and if you'll just give me their names spelled out in Latin/Roman script and the English alphabet, without telling me how they're pronounced, or how should or how they're supposed to be pronounced in English, and with just my knowledge of some languages I use and speak here in and from the Philippines, and also my limited knowledge of their usual or common and native pronunciations and also of the other languages of the Philippines and of Southeast, East and South Asia, I would also most likely or most probably pronounce them like or similar to how they were pronounced here in this "movie that shall not be named". But the problem in this is they were trying to be and sound more "authentically" Asian with or in the pronunciations of their names, even though in most Asian languages, nowadays, their pronunciations would also just be directly borrowed or adopted from their original English pronunciations from the original animated series, and they would also just be pronounced the same or most similarly with their original English pronunciations from the same series, with less to no huge differences, and with only a few to some slight or minor differences in more specific pronunciations and accents, depending on the Asian languages' more indigenous, local, or native pronunciations, accents, intonations, and/or also tones that fits or suits their own individual languages' phonologies, and even though they're fictional fantasy names that already had long-established and widely and commonly known, agreed, and accepted pronunciations of their names from the original animated series, that a lot of fans love and are used to pronounce, based on their original English pronunciations from the same series. It was mentioned at the end of the reaction, but yeah...in comparison with a live action TV series vs. a movie adaptation, you'll have more time to flesh things out. Trying to cram an entire season into one movie for any animated series is pretty much impossible. Like this movie has several, several issues, but to me the thought of trying to re-tell Book 1 in one movie is something that can't be done.
Here's what I think happened with the pronunciation. The original show took a bunch of Asian names and then gave them westernized spelling to avoid confusion for their primarily Western audience. The film crew looked at the spelling and decided to use "Asian" pronunciation on the westernized spelling, so they tried to correct for something that had already been fixed, and we got the bizarre names of the film.
They did the names wrong on purpose to mimic south east asian/sanskrit pronunciation, because the show’s pronunciation is western-based which I don’t mind because it is technically a western show 😂 I think it was Shyamalan’s attempt on being woke at the time.

The first time watching this you can tell some of the actors wasn't sure on the lines. For example I'm positive Katarra was supposed to ask Ong if he was the Avatar. Also the director admitted he's never even watched the animated series..

Controversial opinion, i kind of fuck with the soundtrack of this movie at parts. Particularly during the Avatar state at the northern water tribe, it just feels really dramatic, mystical and intimidating. Its a super memorable track.

So BOTH ARE CORRECT ✅. So I am not looking for a blood bath here just sharing some information and genuinely think THE 2010 movie does not deserve that much of hate from the internet.

It literally makes NO sense to change firebending to require a fire source. That's part of how they were able to take over, water and earthbenders need a source, and airbenders technically do as well but that's everywhere. Ok so, the way I see the difference in the movie to the cartoon is, movie firenation: everyone can fire bend as long there is a fire source. ATLA cartoon: not all fire nation can fire bend.. those that can are powerful in that way. Making it kinda fare going up agaisnt basic soilders and not fire benders. In the movie its still just a basic soilder.. but if theres fire present then its bad.

Earthbenders TRAPPED in a QUARRY
I mean, for me, Aang's name being mispronounced is not the most scary thing, since this is exactly how his name is pronounced in my language, but Iroh is a different story
I think what's messing this up is that although these names are pronounced correctly, it's a mix of the original names sound better, and there is a way to pronounce the names better however, everyone saying the names sounds like how an insensitive person would say the name. Like, someone mispronouncing because "Oh, Im not gonna try and be respectful and try to prnounce like how they pronounce it." Like, imo, the actor who played Iroh said his name actually good enough that it didn't hurt. Like, only that childhood feeling of hearing a name be said wrong got hurt. But underneath that, he said it with at least some inflection and some underlining sense of "I should at least try to pronounce it right." Everyone else saying each other names, sounds awkward and like someone who's never spoken another language before.

Something I’ve noticed in these live actions are they seem to never be able to make water bending look like it hurts when you get hit with it. It always just looks like splashes
I hate how this film's "canon" made firebending the shittiest bending style by not having any of the firebenders create fire. The entire reason why firebending in the cartoon is so scary is because they have basically infinite ammo and it can be used at any time anywhere.
But by relying on an existing fire source, like the other benders, you make firebenders useless. Air is everywhere, water is everywhere, earth is everywhere, but not fire. What happens when the fire source gets extinguished, or the firebender gets too far away from it? They're fucked. Imagine the logistical nightmare that would be the airbender genocide in this film. Did the Fire Nation army just bring thousands of tortches with them up those mountains?
Fire doesn't just occour naturally like water, so if you're a firebender caught out in the rain, you're automatically dead because your fire source - which your fighting ability is entirely dependant on - is rendered useless. Any random waterbender just wins automatically by dropping a wave on a bunch of Fire Nation soldiers. How does the war even happen in this world, let alone how is the Fire Nation "nearing victory?" I have some serious concerns about the congative health of the Water Tribe and Earth Kingdom leaders and generals.
Sometimes the way they mispronounce the names just feel like their purposefully doing it just to get on fan's nerves. The Bending in this movie is also hilariously stupid like they did all that synchronised dancing just to throw one rock.
Honestly the only decent thing about this movie was probably the actor for Iroh and Dev Patel as Zuko who did the best he could do at such a young age and with such a bad script
I thought the blue spirit escape scene was decent too, the actor for Aang actually got to show his martial arts skills and there's very little awful dialogue.

I remember watching this in the theater with my mom and her girlfriend. As soon as the credits rolled, dead silence...except for my mom, going, "WHOO! YEAH! Good movie!" or something like that. That alone made everything else worth it - well, that and the Earth Kingdom Dance Troupe.
I was just seeing something like 2 days ago that the actor who played Aang actually loved the show and was very excited to do this, but afterwards he was getting a lot of hate mail and I think even death threats which drove him away from acting.

28:20 I read a cool theory online, that because Aang was frozen for 100Years the Cycle of Avatars went a bit of Balance. And from Korra we know the Avatar is a Spirit. So Yue was suppost to be the next Avatar, but Aang was still alive. So she needed another Spirit instead of the Avatars to live, thats why she became the moonspirit.
So it is a correction of the Balance and wouldn´t upset it :^)
I'm also easily entertained, but this is one of two movies I left the theater mad at. The only reason i didn't walk out during is because i spent money on drink and popcorn with the ticket. Maleficent is the only other movie I was that upset at. Dragon Ball: Evolution i managed to enjoy with how stupid it was. This movie is just insulting.

I know from somewhere that the reason they changed the pronunciations of their names is because they're trying to have them be pronounced "authentically" like how most Asians would pronounce their names in most Asian languages, which is the region or the continent of the world where ATLA also took a lot of inspirations from in a lot of things in the Avatar World.
I am a Filipino from the Philippines, and if you'll just give me their names spelled out in Latin/Roman script and the English alphabet, without telling me how they're pronounced, or how should or how they're supposed to be pronounced in English, and with just my knowledge of some languages I use and speak here in and from the Philippines, and also my limited knowledge of their usual or common and native pronunciations and also of the other languages of the Philippines and of Southeast, East and South Asia, I would also most likely or most probably pronounce them like or similar to how they were pronounced here in this "movie that shall not be named".
But the problem in this is they were trying to be and sound more "authentically" Asian with or in the pronunciations of their names, even though in most Asian languages, nowadays, their pronunciations would also just be directly borrowed or adopted from their original English pronunciations from the original animated series, and they would also just be pronounced the same or most similarly with their original English pronunciations from the same series, with less to no huge differences, and with only a few to some slight or minor differences in more specific pronunciations and accents, depending on the Asian languages' more indigenous, local, or native pronunciations, accents, intonations, and/or also tones that fits or suits their own individual languages' phonologies, and even though they're fictional fantasy names that already had long-established and widely and commonly known, agreed, and accepted pronunciations of their names from the original animated series, that a lot of fans love and are used to pronounce, based on their original English pronunciations from the same series.
Ex. If I would pronounce their names in Filipino and/or Tagalog and also Chavacano from the Philippines, and using the more native, local, and/or indigenous Filipino and/or Tagalog and also Chavacano pronunciation of names, I would pronounce them as the following:

I can barely remember this film, but one thing that I never understand was why fire benders needed a fire source to be presence in order for them to bend (camp fire, torches already lit etc.), rather than them being able to create the fire themselves much like we see in the a̶n̶i̶m̶e̶ cartoon… does anyone know what I mean???

At least Son of the Mask knew what it was trying to be and wasn't apologizing for it. (Also fun fact my autocorrect kept changing son to sin which I feel is very appropriate for this movie).

It was mentioned at the end of the reaction, but yeah...in comparison with a live action TV series vs. a movie adaptation, you'll have more time to flesh things out. Trying to cram an entire season into one movie for any animated series is pretty much impossible. Like this movie has several, several issues, but to me the thought of trying to re-tell Book 1 in one movie is something that can't be done.
I forgot how painful this movie is 😭 and the sad part is I grew up with the movie before I saw the show as a kid I still have it on DVD 🤣🤣
Here's what I think happened with the pronunciation. The original show took a bunch of Asian names and then gave them westernized spelling to avoid confusion for their primarily Western audience. The film crew looked at the spelling and decided to use "Asian" pronunciation on the westernized spelling, so they tried to correct for something that had already been fixed, and we got the bizarre names of the film.
i enjoyed the fact that i watched this movie before the series. so i never got cringe, just an upgrade.

They did the names wrong on purpose to mimic south east asian/sanskrit pronunciation, because the show’s pronunciation is western-based which I don’t mind because it is technically a western show 😂 I think it was Shyamalan’s attempt on being woke at the time.
Ok but wtf is “agni key” it was agni kai in written form so the way they said it in the original show is already how asians would say it 😂🤣

First time I've seen them all in one room, and they chose to watch this atrocity. 😂
The first time watching this you can tell some of the actors wasn't sure on the lines. For example I'm positive Katarra was supposed to ask Ong if he was the Avatar. Also the director admitted he's never even watched the animated series..

-why Sokka looks constipated (even if i'm a fan of Jackson Rathbone but not there😑😑😑)
-why the characters look so fade...even Uncle Iroh (my fave character❤)
-where are the other characters? (No Bumi, no Jet, no Haru, no the Mechanist and his son...)
- the creatures (they screwed Appa, they didn't even named Momo...)
-the Blue Spirit really freaks me out😱
-the Spirit world (where the dragon spirit came from? Where are the giant panda, the avatars Kyoshi and Roku, the face stealer???)
-the slow motion😴😴😴 it's like watching an indian serie with all the slow mo( i love hindi movies but not the slow mo)
-the WORSE : the mispronounciation of the names🥴🥴🥴

Controversial opinion, i kind of fuck with the soundtrack of this movie at parts. Particularly during the Avatar state at the northern water tribe, it just feels really dramatic, mystical and intimidating. Its a super memorable track.
