  • Out for an early morning softbait fish to catch some snapper in Northland, New Zealand. After getting some nice fish I head home to cook a whole snapper on the BBQ with a sour orange glaze. See the recipe below (note I made some changes because I didn't have some ingredients). Enjoy!

Thanks for the cooking video Thomas! I’d love to see more of how you guys like to cook up your fresh fish! So interesting to hear a fisherman say you like them sometimes better the day after!? I’ve never heard that! Also I’d love to see other ways you enjoy cooking whole fish AND different ways you like to cook filets! I know you talk about how certain sizes become fillets and others are whole fish cooks so I’d find that interesting… also what does Zadie’s fish look like? What is a 1 year old eating for her fish choices?
And I remember how you said those cooking videos you two did during Covid didn’t react well so I do understand your potential hesitance on doing them and appreciate it all the more! (Though I always loved the cooking videos too!) 😉😂

Thanks so much for watching Jaci. I’m glad I could get a catch and cook together so quickly after you’d said you’d like that. The next video has some cooking in there too 🙌 Zadie loves just a simple piece of fillet cooked in olive oil. It’s so cool being able to catch fresh fish for her. I really appreciate all your support. Thanks so much for watching. Thomas 🙌😀

Very good mate. Maybe a little talk about what soft baits and jig heads you are using would be helpful. Cooking always good, especially more unusual fish recipes.

Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed the cooking. That recipe is super yum. I’ll do more of it in the future and maybe some more on board cooking too. Thanks re the gear talk. I normally do but when I got to editing for this video I noticed the info I’d given was completely wrong (I said the wrong softbait colour 😬) so I had to edit it out as it was more than useless info when it was completely incorrect 😂 Sorry about that! For your reference I was fishing with a 5” jerk shadz from z man in atomic sunrise colour and I used 1/2oz jig head at the start and 3/4oz jig head from about halfway through the video. Thanks heaps for watching. Thomas

so do you ever use fresh baits, worms, shellfish, sliced up baitfish?

Hi Don. I bait fish off the rocks but not really on the boat though. For one I love lure fishing and two it’s just so dirty and smelly 😂 In saying that I’m planning to do a stray lining video soon using bait. We don’t really use worms down here (not in the ocean anyway) we use pretty big dead baits. Thanks for watching this one! Thomas
