This documentary is high level stuff. Kudos to the people who took on the task of creating this masterpiece of a reel showing the birth of one of the most renowned in the gaming business. The era was quite the memorable one, fill with Lan partys and all. Seems to be an era that not gonna repeat itself anymore.
Good times. Carrying a CRT TV and your Xbox to someone's house or a closed restaurant to play Halo.. A few of my friends had PCs, and we did quite a few PC LAN parties. Playing Diablo, Total Annihilation, AOE, Duke Nukem 3d and Unreal. Those Age of Empire games could last 6 or 7 hours Then Everquest came out and we pretty much stayed at home, unless we were wanting to play Halo. Didn't have voice chat back then, so you'd have to have another phone line to call each other
This documentary is still amazing! I have been somewhat distanced from the Xbox brand after the 360 generation for the mistakes shown in this video, but learning the story of how the console was created and the human element behind every decision, failure, and win is really incredible and something no other game company has embraced like this.
Series X is my first ever console that I bought after my first job. A friend of mine who has been through all the console of PS and xbox recommend me PS5 over Series X. But PS5 was not available in the market, neither was Series X. LUCKILY I found a store online which had a single piece of Series X left, and a PS5 digital. I remember me and my friend just sitting in the store with out face resting on our palm and thinking while looking at both the consoles in front of us. Yaa PS5 has some of the best exclusive and that duel sense controller is a big deal. But I went with XBOX........ And I'm HAPPY
They made duel sense to be a way bigger deal than it is… Xbox’s vibration feels way more accurate while ps5 controller is one big slippery joke legitimately… played 2 years on ps5 finally making the switch recently back to Xbox since 2014
Id argue PS5 is still the better console i have both. Xbox big thing now is not the console but game pass. Game pass on PC is amazing. They need to lean into that more and more.
I was 10 years old I never asked for a system we weren’t well off but one year I begged my dad for the original Xbox the year it was releasing and god damn it if he didn’t work extra days and hours to make sure I had the happiest Christmas that I can ever remember ! The OG holds a special place in my heart thanks XBOX and MICROSOFT
I remember standing outside for a midnight release of halo3. Finally the time comes, line starts moving. I’m one person away from the cashier and I hear the worker tell the kid ‘you need a parent or guardian to buy this you’re not old enough’ the kid starts panicking. Saying he walked here his parents know but are asleep. So I step in and say I’m his uncle. The kid looked like he had just seen Jesus. The worker goes ‘uhhh are you sure you wanna take that one’ I’m like absolutely! The kid thanked me over and over. Man I miss midnight releases.
Hello! Thank you for this excellent documentary about the only one gaming console that I am in love with! This video needs to be seen by all Xbox lovers!
Because Microsoft employees talk like sailors. Bill Gates mom was too afraid of putting soap in his mouth, probably afraid his lawyer father would sue her
I still have my nes, my super NES, my 64, my PS2, my 360 and xb1, but my og will always be my favorite. It was the first console I bought, at the time I was just a kid who didn't know shit about consoles I just liked playing video games. I loved the startup screen the cd ripping, the custom soundtracks, and at that time the games just sucked me right in. Sometimes I would leave the home screen playing when I went to sleep. I thought the alien sounds and green glow from my car tv was cool
I love this. Xbox, the childhood and the future definition of a beast on gaming with an amazing community, amazing exclusives you name it, it’s a masterpiece. And to think this whole thing was so doubted, is unbelievable. And I wouldn’t understand the horrible problem with rrod, but for the cause it was a HORRIBLE event. But THAT was where Xbox was just getting started. After all of the suffering and trauma behind rrod, it was only going uphill. Again, it’s amazing to see how a console like Xbox was a doubtful idea and the fact that it rose from bottom up even after a tragic accident is just amazing. The Xbox team has come a very long way to accomplish what is now here today. And I respect it. Every accomplishment every sweat drop that fell throughout the stress and success to be what it is today, the power and happiness that this journey grabbed is indescribable to me and a lot of other Xbox gamers that have stuck around. Thank you Xbox, I really can’t express everything you’ve given your community ❤️
I vividly remember a long time ago sitting in my room reading one of the free gaming magazines I got with one of my games and in the section where people ask questions to the editors someone said they heard a rumor that Microsoft was gonna make a console called Xbox, then asked what they thought. They dismissed the notion, stopping short of saying no way. Then later I see the commercials lol
Holy smokes so Sony caused Microsoft to create the Xbox, fascinating. I bought the first Xbox cause i wanted a console made by Microsoft which i believed would deliver better hardware
That red ring of death section was tough to watch. I got my xbox fixed 3 times before I gave up on it. I couldn't keep that red ring from coming back. I recently bought a series S for my bday, not knowing my wife bought me a PS5. I ended up on the PS5 because the online catalog was better.
LOL I'm on part 3 and holy shit this is GOOD. Man it brings back memories. Cause yeah.... NONE of us gamers gave a fuck about them back then. It was Sony or Nintendo, Sega was dying and we were fine. Xbox xD
Xbox forever, truly the underdog in the video game industry competing against the PlayStation & Nintendo. Coming a long way 20 plus years later, and now stronger and better than ever. Fun fact the original Xbox was allegedly the successor to the dreamcast. I guess you can say that the original Xbox is basically dreamcast 2 but way more powerful. The original Xbox had way better graphics & visuals than the PS2. Just look at the TH-cam video comparisons original Xbox vs PS2 (splinter cell & so many other games) you notice & see the difference in graphics & visuals. The original Xbox was pushed to it's fullest power & extent. Let's power our dreams. Team green, team Xbox baby
I love xbox since it all started ......i have ben a gamer since the ATARI i know games ...i i have 3 game ideas that can be massive ...let me know if i can help one day xbox...

Great documentary. It was brave to not sugarcoat and skip the lows like we see in public messaging so much nowadays. I will always stay with Xbox. The biggest reason aside from personal investment since og xbox is because the controller is the best by far. It is a work of art and so natural feeling. I could handle the duke, the s controller was better, but when the xbox 360 controller appeared it grabbed the crown and kept it through the generations. There's a ps4/5 in my house, my brother even gave me his old ps4 pro. But if I play it I feel like i'm at my friends house and its not going to mean anything when I'm done. I feel at home on Xbox and always have since day 1. Xbox live was revolutionary. Achievements was copied by everyone. Game pass is revolutionary. Keep it up and maybe the 360 days of market share will return. My advice on that point is to give Halo to a different studio. Make Halo great again. It was THE face of Xbox. You HAD to buy an Xbox for Halo and that is simply not the case now and hasn't been since after Reach.
Interactive Barney was very revolutionary in Children's TV,Games, toys and education. Because you can have Barney watch the Barney show or video tape he reacts to the show, then the Barney PC games he actually played the game with the kid playing and then the kid plays with actomates Barney when the show and PC game is being played so theirs many was of Play for the children and their also learning from Barney aswell. I had one I just watched the show and played with him and he also scared me when I was little too.
Well Microsoft, You have to give credit to the Sega Dreamcast, Sega Channel, and Nintendo BSX for paving the way for online gaming. Without Sega and Nintendo, then Microsoft either would have been the first ones to introduce online gaming, or online gaming would have not existed. It's quite sad in the first variation of the Xbox console, considering the PS2 was the one that dominated the world, whereas Xbox dominated the american markets and such. 47:50 Woooow, little did they know they would end up doing this again 20 years later with buying Activision Blizzard...They wanted to buy out and acquire Nintendo of America!?!?!? Holy shit the games would have been completely different on the Gamecube had Microsoft acquired them. 57:50 Holy Crap, 1 Billion Dollars!?!?! That's akin to doing nearly 50 Trillion Dollars today if they even tried that in the 2020s.
1:16 we're gonna make it aren't we sir? This made me giggle, I take it's probably representative of the chaos the team was going through trying to put the xbox together, they're coming down like meteor about to crash in a spectacular ball of fire and somehow they managed to make it out in one piece, amazing
3:28:00 Yes, of course, Core Gamers didn't want it. It had nothing to do with Microsofts abysmal privacy practices and the fact that they tried to use the Kinect to collect customer data directly in your living room and sell it to advertisers or anything...
Killer documentary! I’ve been a huge gamer since the Atari days but admittedly fell off between PS2 and the pandemic where I discovered PS4, N3DS, PSVita, and Steam and the Steamdeck. I was vaguely familiar with Halo, Gears, Left4Dead, Ori, Minecraft & Cuphead…but was very cool to see the innovations & missteps of Xbox. 🏆🤟🏻 I’d welcome any game recommendations…got some catching up to do! 😋
It's beyond me how I had my Xbox 360 for 4 1/2 years and it never got a red ring. The only major issues I had with my unit is that the AC Brick lit up red and I needed to replace it and the disk try would get stuck and I needed my school ID to open it up. Either I got extremely lucky or people lived on the sun or something.
started this late night not thinking much of it and each part ends on such a good cliffhanger that I go ehh fuck it I'll stay up for one for part. I've done that 3 times now and it's 7 am lmao

It's interesting, I never had an issue with my Xbox 360 lol. But I also didn't play for obnoxious hours on end and didn't play online, so I never stressed the circuits.
I have an idea for Xbox that’ll make them lots of money and possibly get some PS4 gamers to buy an Xbox console. But 1. I need to know where to send it 2. I’d like to get a small percentage of sales from my idea.
Starting on the original Xbox, then moving to the 360 made sense - until my 360 gave me the red ring, MS didnt even to offer to send me a box to return it in - they expected me to pack it. I turned to the PS3, then Ps4, Ps4pro PSVR - Ive now got a PS5 but I also managed to get the Series-X - I play both machines, I hope this Series X doesnt die on me before the warranty runs out. If it does - Im finished with Xbox, but meantime - Im having a lot of fun with it and Games pass, though I have to admit, the ps5 controller - is one crazy bit of hardware and throws down the gauntlet to Xbox - I'll be getting psvr2 when it comes out - though I am hoping, against hopes that Xbox will allow me to play VR games on my Quest2 - some day. Great video and thanks for sticking it all in one video - watched it from beginning to end.
Speaking for myself, I got burned by Playstation, I got several yellow rings of death with my 20 gig OG PS3, a machine that I paid over $500 for back in 2006, which launched at twice the price of the Xbox 360, while launching subpar games. Also the PSN 2009 crash was when I left Playstation forever. I have been with Xbox since. I have been VERY happy with my Xbox One S which plays music CDs and 4K movies, neither of which can be played on my PS4. I have a PS5 but it has had a LOT of problems and I traded it in for an Xbox Series X
2:05:00 I honestly haven't played any halo game. Because im a PC gamer from start(i had ps1 & ps2 at launch but few months after i sold it, pc graphics/physics capabilities where FAAAAAAR better, even back then.) And title was 'xbox exclusive' interesting how many millions of players they lost because of this. Only now after seeing this im intrigued 🙂
Wonder if any of them owned a PlayStation 😂 As a PlayStation lover, of course. Can’t deny that the xbox was incredible. And still is. Never been, and never will be a PlayStation fanboy as they call it. All that bullshit of what’s better etc. all consoles are fantastic in their own way. Sometimes it’s the nostalgia, and the memories that a console holds, not just the games. As crazy as this sounds. To me, NBA STREET VOL.2 is the greatest game of all time. Not because of its sales and the money it made. But because it holds dear to my heart. My god the memories with that game. I miss it all. And let’s be a little honest though. It was an awesome sports game!

I have been fortunate enough to have had all these video game systems growing up . Luckily I had 4 brothers and we all sacrificed birthday parties and individual Christmas gift wishes to receive game consoles or new games . Kids looking for an escape from our harsher reality. Loving our first PlayStation we believed nothing can beat it . Until Xbox and 360 came out we only still kept PS around for GTA & WWE games being exclusive titles for PS. Ps2 -ps3 were horrible for real gamers came with many problems and almost no warranty . Never had a problem with first Xbox and when we got the light for 360 we got it replaced with factory warranty and never experienced any problems again . Only reason ps5 is back at my house was due to covid and drop shippers . Once I got my hands on one of the ps5 controllers it felt like Xbox PlayStation cult followers will never give credit where it’s due without Xbox I’m sure gaming would of been stagnant for a while .
NGL, had a X360 and vowed to never by another Xbox. Had the red rings of death like 2 times and on the third time they refused to fix it for free. It was around 2010, and their rationale was it was outside the three year warranty. My thing is it was a known hardware issue and I was given a defective unit when they sent me a refurbished one the year or so before. I literally left console gaming for 3-4 years and just did PC gaming. My brother bought me a PS4 around 2015 or so and I bought a PS5, but they really pissed me off
Saying you learned your lesson on how you handled Lionhead, only to then shut down and lay off workers only 2 years later is such corporate talk bullshit. This is exactly Xbox is flopping, and I'm saying this with indifference to the console war crap.
It's really upsetting because I feel like companies don't work like this anymore. CEOs and founders don't really get hands-on at all. Nowadays it's kind of cool watching bill gates Actually, take a part in something they're making and not just sitting in the shadows.
3:32:20 “They were too far ahead. The world wasn’t ready” the world was already billions into always online & digital by 2013. Every person that complained about XO literally did so from an always online mobile device. The truth about 2013 was it was the birth of fake concern click farming & misinformation. And that’s what really effected Xbox.
This is a really interesting watch. But it really shows, as history would confirm, the leadership at Microsoft has never had deep foresight into the future. They’re not dumb men, they just aren’t visionaries. That being said I loved my Xbox 360 and I’m glad it existed and I want the to continue to be in the ecosystem. But geez, the leadership seemed late to every moment in computing.
It's sad because i remember when seeing this documentary i tought Microsoft finally understood what makes a great console since then they dropped the ball so much xbox is literally disappearing.
I honestly wasn't sure I could watch a 4 hour documentary about the Xbox...but honestly this was absolutely riveting.
Yeah, I could not stop watching!
This was absolutely amazing! Great insight to the history of xbox.
Same here I was in 25-30 mins and thought ahh screw it I’ll just watch the whole shit😂
Its very good no cap
This documentary is high level stuff. Kudos to the people who took on the task of creating this masterpiece of a reel showing the birth of one of the most renowned in the gaming business. Indeed 👍

"Yo mr White, I'm in a documentary!"
Xbox 1X the most powerful console to date, yet gets outsold by the PS5 by a good amount and the Switch by an obscene amount.
I have an idea for Xbox that’ll make them lots of money and possibly get some PS4 gamers to buy an Xbox console. But 1. I need to know where to send it
It's all relative. I've owned several 360's and never gotten the ring, Ive had playstation and Xbox, I prefer the box.
When my xbox got the red ring of death, me and a few friends took that mf apart and managed to fix it, I still don't know how the hell we did it.
2:05:00 I honestly haven't played any halo game. Because im a PC gamer from start(i had ps1 & ps2 at launch but few months after i sold it, pc graphics/physics capabilities where FAAAAAAR better, even back then.)
And title was 'xbox exclusive' interesting how many millions of players they lost because of this.
Only now after seeing this im intrigued 🙂
1:47:32 lmao dat cough was unnecessary
You couldn't put a buffer wheel on a drill?
Im doing researching the xboxs history for my genius hour project
My respect for Microsoft after they acknowledge their mistakes and respects their rivals as a corporation 📈
THE GAMERS
Haven’t touched an Xbox since gears of wars was out, might be time to change that.
I still use the original xbox till this day

i was a Sega fan when the powerfull console lost the sega dreamcast to the ps2 i walked over to the xbox .
Once I got my hands on one of the ps5 controllers it felt like Xbox
PlayStation cult followers will never give credit where it’s due without Xbox I’m sure gaming would of been stagnant for a while .
My brother bought me a PS4 around 2015 or so and I bought a PS5, but they really pissed me off
Who came from TikTok to watch the full documentary !🎉🎉🎉
Me!!!!!
Sounds dumb but. I love my xbox even more now
I like both Windows PC's And Xbox Consoles they are more fun to play games on it.
Which one between the two is more fun?
@@tecnikstr0be Xbox Because I played games a lot and Windows PC I used to played games a lot sometimes.
Hes stopping at just Xbox? Would be neat to see Atari, Nintendo, SEGA, and Sony as well
Saying you learned your lesson on how you handled Lionhead, only to then shut down and lay off workers only 2 years later is such corporate talk bullshit. This is exactly Xbox is flopping, and I'm saying this with indifference to the console war crap.
The Xbox One was beautiful and cool and great console design and the xbox brand was awesome amazing and the best system just like the Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 it Came out when I was a new born baby around 2005 and Xbox One Came Out On My 8th birthday around 2013 that was awesome amazing.
The Original Xbox One Console Is The Best Console system entertainment ever because I played it manytimes a lot more than the playstation 4.
It's really upsetting because I feel like companies don't work like this anymore. CEOs and founders don't really get hands-on at all. Nowadays it's kind of cool watching bill gates Actually, take a part in something they're making and not just sitting in the shadows.
They Fed up not buying rockstar but at the same time its a godsend that they didn't!
Incredible legacy
I LOVE XBOX 🎮❎🎮
💯
