  • In today's video I'm going to show you how to grow coleus from seed and give you some tips on trimming and pruning up the Foliage for bushier growth. We're also going to go over watering tips and sunlight requirements. Coleus can be grown here in Florida most months out of the year, except when there is a frost which can cause severe damage.
    As always, Thank you for watching and Happy planting! I really appreciate every one of you for stopping by and continuing to support me throughout my journey

    really useful information thank you, are these tropical plants?

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they are actually tender tropical plants😁 They grow well during the summer with the morning sun (6-8hrs) vs the afternoon heat which can cause wilting of the foilage (leaves). Frequent waterings by avoiding the leaves in the heat of the summer is important because it can cause damage to the leaves and burning most of all. We live in Central Florida Zone 9b and it can get almost 100° here. We've been 98° all week with 70-75% humidity so I use Pro-Tekt Silicon Solution by Dyne-Gro to help prevent against cold or heat stress.

      I always give my plants direct sun in the morning and a break in the afternoon with dappled shade. Usually I do this between the months of May until September-Oct because it gets way to hot and causes a lot of damage. I hope this information helps! I'll be doing a few more videos on growing coleus in the summer and watering tips to keep it healthy. Let me know if you need anything 😁 Thanks for being here!

      Thank you🌸 Its so easy to grow and very hardy. Also, I notice it doesn't get much pests or diseases so it's my go to, to add some color into the garden. Thank you so much for stopping by!!🌸

      Your very welcome! I'll be doing an update soon, on the one I recently got to come back.. it was sent through the mail and arrived in terrible condition. I like to constantly pinch the flowers to encourage more bustier growth and I'm going to show how I do that if your interested. Thanks for stopping by!

      Hi, how are things going? Just came across your comment from a few yrs ago and just wanted to touch base. Any growing plans coming up? I'm curious if you turned that brown thumb into a green one yet lol. Lots of patience, experimenting and learning curves are what makes a great gardner/grower in my opinion😊 Just remember to adjust the care, to your type of climate.

    The most complete video I’ve seen! Beautiful coleus😍 Thanks! Would you be able to do a video on what to do to bring your coleus inside for the winter?

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your kind words😊 I live in Florida, so we don't have to winterize our plants much here. Temps usually stay above 35°f in the winter so honestly, I'm not really experienced with growing in colder climates. My aunt does live up north and she usually takes her coleus inside for the winter. She puts it under her grow light and says it does pretty good. I wish I could help you more, but I just don't have experience with winterizing my plants much. If temps drop below 40°- 45°f, I just bunch them up in my lanai/porch and cover them with a light bed sheet. That usually protects them enough, being the ground doesn't freeze here. Thanks for stopping in. Lmk if you need anything else😊

    Do you need to debug coleus cuttings an old lady gave me 4 plants yesterday but none of them has roots yet

  • @rosemirai5278
    @rosemirai5278 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I potted some coleus cuttings someone gave me that were water propagated. Within an hour all 7 were drooping. A day later they 4/7 popped back up. I noticed it was mainly the green ones. The watermelon coleus didn’t come back :( Aby tips? Btw, these cuttings May have been left too long in water propagation bulbs? The roots were 2-4 inches long.

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what happened.. usually when I propagate my coleus I take the pieces inside, stick them in a glass of water, wait for roots to show, then I start acclimating them back outside, once they're in soil. If the soil dries out too much, coleus will end up drooping.

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frost will kill them off a bit. They don't like temps below 35°F I've noticed

    I live in south Florida and I cannot plant my coleus in full sun here. The sun burns them up but they do very well in partial shade.

    My coleus is loosing its color, maroon leaves turning yellow, what should i do

    • @StaceyHerewegrowagain
      @StaceyHerewegrowagain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's dehydrated it could loose its leaves. How severe is it? Sorry my answer is so delayed.. Yellowing leaves can mean a few different things. Lack of nutrients, its gone into flowering too much.. which causes the leaves to drop and the flowers to elongate and take over the entire plant. It does go to seed after flowering and than repeats its cycle. It's recommended to cut the blooms, if your not looking to collect seeds. Hope this helps to answer your question.
