Hi Leximoniquue!! Appreciate that. I have years of tutorials & videos which I hope makes growing and caring for Coleus easy and Fun!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!!!
You start yours from seed? That is cool. A hail storm came through & broke some thick branches. I noticed it had little nubs on the stem so I just pushed it into dirt. To my surprise the plant took root! Coleus is my new favorite plant.💖🌱 Thanks for your video.👍
Great demo. Very useful. I rooted 3 cuttings over the winter. They rooted like crazy. 2 weeks ago I potted them up. 2 out of the 3 are thriving so far. Their nice color is returning. After watching your video today, I pruned them. Thank you for the guidance.
I'm sure the third one will catch up!!! Carol THANK YOU!! Appreciate you taking the time to comment and I hope you SUBSCRIBE and continue to follow along!!! I also have both Jim's Wholiest of Coleus Instagram and Facebook pages so you can share pictures or specific problems.
Really great information! I overwintered two small, not very healthy coleus and now I know what to do with them! They do have new growth and boy do they need to be pruned! Thanks Jim! Your coleus are beautiful! Nice Tee!

I'm a strong believer in that there is no such thing as too many Coleus plants, though I'm starting to run out of places to put them... amazing content, keep posting please!
My coleus I started from the seed I got from you are doing well. At first I didn't have a good light situation but then I bought that light you have off Amazon. What I have looks healthy, just think they are behind a bit. I over-sewed so I'm planning areas out in the yard for them to go in.
Hi Kathy!! Thin them out...check out my videos on separating!! Be careful and make sure you Harden them...gradually introduce them to the outdoors over a few weeks before planting outside ! Thanks !! Good work!!
Oh yeah, they've been thinned to 2 per pot, I've watched all your videos. They are not ready to prune yet. I slowly introduce any plant when I take them out on the deck, keeping them up against the house and gradually moving them out to more sun.
My first year of growing Coleus after a 50 year break, grew them with a family fiend as a kid and retire this year. So far I broke every rule that you have said not to do, They are looking good but the peat pods was new and I left them in to long. Going to plant them anyway and then gut and propagate the cutting. As you say each year we will improve, maybe next planting, living in Houston they can be outside for all but 3 months when it seldom hits below 35. thanks for teaching an old dog some new tricks.
No problem Jeff!! I appreciate you taking the time to comment and share an important message. I've made many mistakes. From overseeding to impatience in getting them outdoors...losing many to cold temps. But Yes...You live & learn!!! There is still time to keep your Coleus muscles going....if you have anything left grow them out!! They are as you know from experience resilient as well!! If not buy one at Home Depot or a local Nursery and keep following along!! I appreciate you SUBSCRIBING!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus I re potted the 22 seedlings last night and they are fine, the webbing came off with out hurting the roots as much as I thought and seem OK today, no wilting, time will tell. 33 potted up any that I had trouble with I put in a black pot so I can track them better. Thank you for you training.
Totally enjoy your vids! You’re so generous in sharing and teaching, just as your words of encouragement to others are! Bless your kind-hearted soul.👍👍😊
I sure enjoy it, Jim! I got my first coleus plants as a gift a month back, and thought they are supposed to be leggy, until I saw your lovely collection! The most exhilarating moment watching this vid was when you snipped off the entire top leaves of a leggy coleus, stripping it bare! Lol. I did not even finish your vid; I went straight to my leggy coleus and gave them the barest of trim! Lols. Thanks so much, Jim!🙏🏻😁
I definitely want a tee shirt! This is my second year growing mine from seeds. I got my very first coleus at a farmers market and almost killed it but thanks to you I was able to bring them back to life and harvest the seeds and I've been excited to grow them ever since❤️
Hi Jim, love your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on growing coleus. I started mine 2/9/20 . some have real leaves on them and some just have the seed leaves. aka the ears. lol. I'm so excited to watch them grow. I have a tip for you. please take the stick out of your plants. The skewer is actually taking nitrogen out of the potting mix making your plant sick. toothpicks do the same damage. use plastic markers or bamboo . :)
LAURA!!! You are the perfect example of why I welcome comments!!! I did not even think of that...the skewer was from last season when it was getting overgrown for support a d I forgot about it!! . THANK YOU!! I'm glad your enjoying my videos.... Your Coleus sound like they are on their way and no doubt they have a great Mom!!! Lol.
Hi...im using popsicle sticks now for labeling my plants..do you recommend i take them out?so bamboo sticks are better? Thanks so much for the tips..honestly I never knew that
Thank you so much for the tutorial. You have a very beautiful home & well talented on the coleus. That used to be my mom's favorite plant along with the geranium and gardenias. God bless wish the best for you and your family. Stay safe.
My Coleus are just the same size. I am growing them first time from the seeds. Naturally question raised, " what am I gonna do now?" Thank you for sharing this with us. I am more confident now to prune them, so they Peng go leggy tall.
Hi Jemi....To answer your WHAT TO DO NOW Question ..that depends on where you live....and what u want to do with your Coleus. I let my large planter die off at first frost and pack up planters for winter....REST UP....Until Spring and do it all again.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Oh..that's how it goes! Thank you, Jim, for respond. I ll follow you. I guess, you will prepare another video on that part too. BTW I am from NYC, and the coleus is on the apt.window, facing to North-East side.
Hi Cianita!! You have a very pretty name! I appreciate you watching my videos and taking the time to actually comment!! That is what touches my Heart the most!!
Just got some coleus seed pods for my aerogarden (9 pods). I’m so excited! Im newbie though; only grew one other set of pods (herbs) from the aerogarden. I didn’t realize how big coleus got, so when I found out I immediately began researching info how to make them fuller and not so tall. This video was helpful It seems to me, I might not be able to keep them in the aerogarden like Ive done previously with herbs. Hopefully, I will be able to give some away after transplanting them. I want to keep one for my room. I’m nervous about having 9 full coleus plants because I have dogs and I understand that the plant is toxic to them I already have tiny little sprouts and some leaves are already showing their colors! I could cry it makes me so happy😁
The aerogarden is an excellent tool to use for Coleus!! All seeds actually. Creates a great microcosm for seed development. And Yes they won't be able to stay in there too long. You'll know when they are screaming for their own " place" 😆 Look thru my videos on separating and potting them. GREAT IDEA ON GIFTS!!! A gift that lasts!!!
Thank you for this! I recently have been so into coleus plants and your videos are the only ones I will watch! Very informative and you are so generous and respectively understanding of how others are still learning and I appreciate that! So thank you! I’m in pa and in the process of pruning my coleus and so nervous I’m messing it up, lol!
Hi Nicole!! Thanks for the kind words and your vote of confidence in my videos!! Glad your finding them helpful!! Dont be nervous about pruning. It is a necessary evil ...but soon your Coleus will be nice & full and you'll only have to trim the very tops and any older damaged leaves after that!! Any questions just ask!!
The majority of our garden area is shady. It seems like the garden centers focus their haul on plants for the sun. I decided it was time to try starting my fave shade plants from seed. They are dragon wing/angel wing/wax begonias, Torenia, and Coleus. I’m only about 5 weeks in, but I have to say Torenia has been the easiest to achieve a lush plant with lots of leaves so far. Coleus is the second, but I am having some issues with the first set of true leaves curling under on some plants. That’s when I started looking for more growing info and found your channel. I’m still not sure of the cause of the curling, but I am finding other incredibly useful tips on your channel. Love the pruning tips. One other tip was that I just paid $4 ea for 11x22” drip pans to go under my new 4” pots and I saw you were using foil pans. I have 2 of those in my pantry and can get more at the $$ store. Thank you! Question: How and when do you fertilize your plants?
Hey Jenn!! Thank you for Watching. I'm glad to hear that you are getting something from my videos!! Curling under can be too much water...not enough light and a bit of both. As for Fertilizer....I start off using General Purpose time release pellets mixed in the potting soil as I start my pots. Once my Coleys are in the greenhouse...Potted and we're into the thick of Summer heat ....I use Miracle-Gro General Purpose water soluble plant food in the Green box.....every 10-14 days. Of course if we get alot of rain one month I'll Fertilize after 7 days. Miracle-Gro REEEEALLY Makes a difference especially with the combination of Pruning and of course The Rain and bright Summer daylight!
Hey, Jim! I'm still weeks (6-8) behind you, but I am following along. In NJ too, but by the time I'm going to be planting in my boxes and planters in spring, I'm sure I'll be up to speed thanks to these hints!
Hey Joe!! Good to hear from you!! Your right on time my friend!! I appreciate you following along....And please keep in touch and reach out to me when you need. Be especially careful and aware of slowly Hardening your Coleus and aware of the weather and extended forecast BEFORE you eventually place them outdoors later in the Spring. I dont want you to lose them as I have done in the past in my rush to get them outdoors too soon!! Good job Joe!!
I appreciated your video. I live on a tropical island in the Pacific so your seasonal instruction don't quite fit the season I have here. It is warm to hot and humid all year long. My coleus here grow like weeds. What I am learning from you is how to propagate and also to prune to get more bush-like broader plants. One thing really strange is that I will put two coleus plants in 2 pots of very different color and designs. A branch from 1 plant will stretch out and come in contact with the other plant and take on the color and design of that other plant even though the branches on that same plant retain the same color and design.
Hi Edwin!! THANK YOU for the comment and sharing that great story about the cross pollination between Coleus. They are very social and will do that!!! My apologies for the late reply!!!
Ho Beth....email me at www.chewchjz@gmail.com and I can tell you how I sell my seeds. Look over my video's if there is a specific type that you fancy let me know . I've sold Coleus seeds all over.

I live in the Caribbean where it's is very warm but accommodating to these plants.I love them very much. I have had about 50.. fifty different types of Coleus plants. How can I get the seeds? And where?
Hi Shelia....yes Now isnt the best time in the US to buy GOOD QUALITY seeds. Here are a few for late Winter and Spring...but check with them on when seeds are available..... www.swallowtailgardenseed.com. and www.rosydawngardens.com
Hey from NJ as well...central. Anyway I remember seeing this last year. I grow gigantous coleus about 3 ft high usually. The brightest is that deep red. I started seeds like I did last year because the Gaskos ones weren't as prolific as the year before, but that could of been from a shortage of workers. The wizard mix I got from a nursery was so tiny and didn't grow as well that year so seeds it is.. You should try the wicked witch coleus with the ruffled edge.
AWESOME zincink. If your ever in Jersey Shore area. June-September Every Thursday 1pm-6pm Bridge Ave in front of the Manasquan Savings Bank lawn...BAY HEAD NJ (just south of Point Pleasant Beach) ...I set up and sell my Coleus creations !! Stop by!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Cool, I’ll tell some friends who live down there… I knew I shouldn’t of put away the snowblower cause now it’s freezing out there haha
Thanks for another great video Mr. Jim!! I was just about to ask if you had any videos focusing on pruning, and then I see this come out. Timing couldn't have been better for me!!!
Holy Coley! That's a magnificent collection. I have a problem with my Coleus. I brought them indoors last year a little late. I kept them under a grow light indoors for a few weeks, but the room they were in was probably too cold and they lost all of their leaves but still looked alive. A few weeks ago I put them on our brightest windowsill in our warmest room and they suddenly started growing like crazy, until about 10 days ago when on all of them leaves have started to go pale and fall off, not many but enough to worry me. My theory is that because we've had some slightly warmer spring days, someone has been opening the window above them and colder air (10-13 degrees C) has been flowing in and over them. What do you think Jim?
Hi Kang!!! Thanks for sharing your story!! Yes Coleus will lose foliage and color intensity as they enter Winter dormancy. T0 keep them going requires Light....warmth and careful watering. If they suddenly experience a chill and its sustained they will lose foliage. Best thing to get is one of the indoor Greenhouse racks with a full spectrum grow light as featured in my recent videos. That maintains warmth and boosts light which in Winter is short.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Thanks for the info Jim! Someone stole my cheap grow light to grow salad greens indoors. So I think I deserve an upgrade. We have much sunnier weather next week and they survived until now so I think my Coleus will be just fine until then, they're certainly defiant ;)
I leave the grow lights on 24/7 for at least the first month...then I utilize the timer and introduce the plants to the Day/ night cycle turning the Growlights off for about 8 hours (before Bedtime).....then back on around dawn.
That really depends on where you live and how long until of if you have a frost. They germinate quickly....You will get growth....but if you have a Winter frost you will have to bring the Coleus indoors before frost.
Thank you!!! I will be becoming more active once I start my seeds mid to late February. I primarily use Miracle-Gro Moisture control potting mix when I transplant
Hi Jim..thx for the tips..youre plants r gorgeous..when is it safe to put them outdoors..here in my area..usually veggies go out may 20th?Thanks so much
Hi Mystique rose.... I usually dont put my Coleus out until late May.....( WEATHER FORECAST AND CONDITIONS PERMITTING). I have learned to be patient..... Hardening them is very important .... The more mature your Coleus the better.... the forecast should be well above 55-60 (night and say)...and avoiding those sustained windy days All increase the chance your Coleus will make it thru the first week of being planted outside. This is what I have learned thru the years. Hope this helps!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus yes it does help..thanks alot..yep here in Canada..i guess we share same planting zones..safest to put them out in late May..yes I will harden them off ofcourse.thanks so much
Another awesome video. Is there a difference between cutting the big leaves as opposed pinching the two sets of new leaves coming in? I want to create a bushier plant but don’t see much new growth happening yet. Those pink ones are amazing.
The main thing is decide what height you want to keep....and yes keep trimming new growth in. The Larger Leaves require alot of nutrition so once your Coleus gets the height & fullness Trim only the older larger leaves...ones that maybe rip or get brown or aged. OR If there is ALOT of new chutes growing underneath....the larger leaves block much needed light....the Ideal Coleus is a Full Uniform one .
I've learnt so much from your videos, thank you SO much. I'm new to growing, but I currently have 8 coleus plants I started from seed a few months ago that are thriving ❤🌱
Hi Kelly!!! I am very appreciative of your comment and watching my videos....and learning!! Its what motivates me!! I just finished a new video...should post in a few minutes!!
Hey Chris..... I do not have any Black Dragon Coleus....perhaps next year if I find seeds. They are pretty cool looking.... Also hearty looking as well.
Hi Amr!! Thanks for a great question. You can gently mist your Coleus.....the only way this will bring on fungus is if the leaves remain wet for prolonged time...so do it during daylight and in a warm location which will evaporate any remaining moisture leftover. Hope this helps.
Jim's Zaccherio Thanks for help. Another question please, few leaves of my coleus plant are curling up at their tips. What does this indicate? Should I prune those leaves?
Like your videos, I love my Coleus! However I put my electric lime coleus outside for a day & half to give it more sun🤦🏾♀️. It’s usually inside by my window sill, and it got really sun burnt & one of my stalks even broke off. I’m so upset, is there a way I can revive my plant?
Hello LollyTheG .. You have to be careful with Coleus or any plant which has spent its " life " on a windowsill. But Suddenly placing it outdoors PARTICULARLY in Direct Sun is too much stress. I have videos about gradually introducing Coleus to the outdoors known as ( HARDENING).....I'll post a link ..... but If you want to reap benefits from the outdoors do it gradually....NO DIRECT SUN..... OR WIND ... and only for a few hours each day for a few weeks ...return plant to the indoors each day. Then it will be Hardened. That's how I "Harden" My Coleus . Now I have a Boston Fern plant..... It's primarily an INDOOR PLANT. However If we are getting a light rain shower and or it's an extremely Humid misty day or evening I will place it in a protected outdoor location for a few hours. Boston Ferns love to have their foliage moist, misted and humid conditions....So I'll give it am occasional shot....but its returned to the indoors and never left out in the Sun. Now Your Electric Lime Coleus if its stem is still green but lost some foliage is still ok.... just return it to a bright window location....watch and dont overwater it.....Give it some fertilizer if you havent careful not to burn it with too much. Cut and root a few stems if you can in case it dies....that way you can repot a new plant. I hope this helps...I will post a link on Hardening next
Hi Heidee!! Coleus dont like to have alot of water. If it is in a pot...depending on the size soil amount and how much sun and heat it may need to be watered every day. Otherwise every other day. It's best that the soil is a bit dry on top but if you dig down an inch or so and its moist then ok. Again small pots like 3-4" nursery pots dry out quickly. Also make sure your pots have drain holes on the bottom otherwise the roots will rot. Hope this helps out.
There are many different types of Slug prevention alternatives....depending on how badly you are getting hit. Eggshells , Pine needles etc create a sharp surface.....If they are potted....wrap some copper tape around the pot...they dont like the chemical reaction it gives off... Slugs love the smell of Beer.... bury an open top can or two just under the soil nearby the pots. They will fall in....other drastic measures lightly coat your pot with vaseline or WD40.... the slick surface prevents climbing up the pot side.
Hi J'Resah. Do you mean you have a Rooting in a large pot of water?? Coleus can be kept as Rootings for months....but ultimately they do best when planted in the ground...or in well drained Pots!!
Jim thank you for you video I have learned a lot to take care of my coleus.. can you please tell me where do u get ur pots... they are some cute and perfect for the coleus..thank you!!

They grew near with time I notice they not getting colors on leaves and as no space in the pot I transplanted them to another pot but still they are growing slow but no color leaves!!!!!
I've had that happen. Even sowing certain Coleus which should be Colorful some grow all green.....I've had a few which matured and developed branches with leaves of the intended color. Could be genetic or an immature seed.
Hi Jim! I hope you’re doing well. I live in Texas and I’m in a predicament. We had a cold front and I’m worried about my coleus. I have about three varieties and I want to protect them for winter. Is there a way to do this without bringing them inside? They’re pretty big and I live in Ana apartment and don’t know how good of an idea it is to bring it inside. Should I try to propagate from them and save for spring? What would your recommend? Thanks!!
Hello Ayyah! Sorry to hear ..... its tough losing these beautiful plants. I expect it each year so I either have plenty of seeds and or cut numerous Rootings to Overwinter. If your Cold Front isn't drastic like a frost the Coleus may do ok......the heat in the soil will protect it from a single evening drop into the 40's but sustained Cold and a frost will certainly kill it. If its only a single night and your worried.....bring it in but make sure there aren't any insects. I suggest cuttings and keeping Rootings as insurance just in case. But here in NJ I accept and actually look forward to the cycle of not having Coleus and creating new Planters each year!!
Hi love ur videos I'm a huge coleus fan it is so nice & beautiful. I was wondering can you do a video on how to make a coleus tree? Thank you. Carlyle.
HI Carlyle..... Thank you for watching and Sure I am looking to expand some of my videos and that will be a great idea. I'm currently getting ready for my Farmers Market but will definitely plan on making one. Thanks for watching!!!
Hi Jim I'm going to do a root division on my coleus & see what happens its way to big & I thought why not make another plant out of it. So far I have 5 different varieties. Have a nice day. Carlyle.
Hi Megan....I own thousands and thousands of seeds which I harvest from my own plants. If you search thru my videos you will see a few on how to harvest Coleus seeds each Fall. I do sell seeds.....if you want a variety of seeds I take PayPal payment and have shipped seeds all over the world..Algeria, Egypt, India New Zealand and Australia...and the US of. Course. Hi Dorene!! Thanks!! I start listing Seeds in the Fall on my Ebay page "JIMS COLEUS " I usually include 5 variations with several hundred total seeds for about $12 shipped.
Hi Nancy...If your indoor Coleus is growing very tall but not much undergrowth then It can be continually pruned which is how you stimulate lower branch growth. Also is it getting enough Daylight? They need a good amount of bright 🌞 especially with the shorter hours of daylight
I buy them directly at "DOLLAR GENERAL" Stores. I used to be able to order them in bulk Directly but they no longer off that so I buy them at the store
I have lots of coleus plants given to me by my relative. Some of them are wilting and I don't have any idea what to do. Some of them are still fine (I guess) but the others droop on the pots so I just put plastic forks to straighten them up. 🙁
If they are Curling down...Too much water or Downey mold..... ease off on your watering.... skip a few days in between.....make sure your pots are well drained with holes. If they are curling upward...perhaps they are getting tooo much sun at too early a stage. Not sure how old your Coleus , where you live and keep them. Let me know. Or send photos to my Instagram or Facebook page .
enshalla!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! Keep an eye out for my next video by weeks end on separating Coleus seeds!!! Thank you for the Very kind words of support!!!
Hello Anubhav In order for a potted Coleus to grow well indoors it needs to be kept in a very bright location that gets an abundance of sunlight. It doesnt need to be directly on the Coleus.
Hey Wally....You have a few choices. The easiest if you plant seeds is go to any home center Lowes Home depot etc and pick up a pack of RAINBOW COLEUS SEEDS. Or they may say " "WIZARD COLEUS" . They will offer a mixed variety of the most common Coleus. I also sell Seeds....6 of my most favorite varieties on my Ebay listing below... PS for a special $2 discount just click Best Offer and enter $10.95!! www.ebay.com/itm/COLEUS-SEEDS-FEATURED-ON-JIMS-WHOLIEST-OF-COLEUS-/393922243219?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
Yes. This should be done once your Coleus gets the height of your choosing...by trimming the top growth consistently that will keep it from getting taller and at the same time help fill out the bottom growth giving a nice full plant.
I have found that sowing them earlier in Winter had no benefit towards the Coleus result come Spring & Summer...But I grow 600...so if you want to sow a few for the house , have a grow light and or well lit window..You may...but Success / Results may vary depending on how bad your Winter is or will be. If its a 2 -3 Coleus give it a go!!
Hey Ken...Thanks for the question....I hope you scan thru my many videos....I cover everything Coleus. You can keep Rootings ANYTIME. But I usually cut Rootings over the Fall & Winter...for my Spring planters also for decoration ( colored bud vases) I do sell my Specific Coleus seeds on my Ebay.
Nav San....Thats very kind!!! People such as yourself who take the time to comment is appreciated by me!! I hope I help you enjoy growing Coleus!!
I got my very first coleus at a farmers market and almost killed it but thanks to you I was able to bring them back to life and harvest the seeds and I've been excited to grow them ever since❤️
Hi Tanya....email me at JimsWholiestofColeus@gmail.com And I can get you price in tee shirt & Coffee mugs!!! Thank you
Hi Jim, love your videos.

Thanks you for sharing your video on how & where pruning coleus. God bless
This video was helpful
It seems to me, I might not be able to keep them in the aerogarden like Ive done previously with herbs. Hopefully, I will be able to give some away after transplanting them. I want to keep one for my room. I’m nervous about having 9 full coleus plants because I have dogs and I understand that the plant is toxic to them
I already have tiny little sprouts and some leaves are already showing their colors!
I am learning so much frm you it's a blessing thanks a lot u amazing you spread plant 🌿 love

Hi Mommy K!!! Welcome!! Thank you for saying Hi and Subscribing!!
Thanks Jim for sharing your knowledge, very helpful,
Much Appreciated!!! Thanks for watching!!!
Omg. I love your plants. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you sooo much Lisbeth!!!
Thanks for the video, Coach Rex!

Forgot to mention I have at home to types of Coleus which is labeled : Wizard Mix 1) has green with wine color. 2) has is like a wine color. :)
Yes....Most seed packs in stores are labeled Wizard mix ....and the more Colorful "Rainbow Mix"
So beautiful 😍💖💞
I love them all colors👍💖
Very good tips🙏
A new friend here 👍💞
From Sweden. I have also mutch of this coleus and love this video🙏💖🏆
Thank you Jezziq!!! Love my friends from Sweden!!!
How long would you leave grow lights on new plants.
I leave the grow lights on 24/7 for at least the first month...then I utilize the timer and introduce the plants to the Day/ night cycle turning the Growlights off for about 8 hours (before Bedtime).....then back on around dawn.
Can you plant bought seeds in July or should you wait till December?
That really depends on where you live and how long until of if you have a frost. They germinate quickly....You will get growth....but if you have a Winter frost you will have to bring the Coleus indoors before frost.
2yers later .... 🙈🙄😁I comming in... Very nice share👌👍
Hey Jessica!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus hello there... 😁
Love what i am seeing what type of soil did you use for planting
Thank you!!! I will be becoming more active once I start my seeds mid to late February. I primarily use Miracle-Gro Moisture control potting mix when I transplant
I also mix in worm castings. The Miracle-Gro already has Peralite/ vermiculite mixed in to retain moisture
Thanks Jim. I’ve learned so much from watching your videos and look forward to seeing more.
Thank you! Your videos are very helpful 😊
I very much appreciate the kind words and watching!!!

Hey Chris..... I do not have any Black Dragon Coleus....perhaps next year if I find seeds. They are pretty cool looking.... Also hearty looking as well.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus very hearty it seem to me mine get alot of full light and doesn't seem to burn
They can withstand Full Sun....just need more frequent watering!!
How to clean coleus leaves? Mine are dusty and I've heard that spraying water on coleus leaves promotes fungal diseases .. Any help?
Here is the " Hardening " Link.... th-cam.com/video/UtUVYymOMmk/w-d-xo.html

I'm always looking for new things with my Coleus each year....planters etc. Im glad I can help out !! Its great fun!!
Hi Jim, Im new for having a kong coleus. How do you water a coleus, what is the best way and when to water. Thanks
Thank you so much for the info and for your quick reply. This helps a lot 😊
Any tips on fighting slugs who are eating your coleus? I'm zone 9a. I'm using Sluggo and eggshells -- anything else I should consider?
There are many different types of Slug prevention alternatives....depending on how badly you are getting hit. Eggshells , Pine needles etc create a sharp surface.....If they are potted....wrap some copper tape around the pot...they dont like the chemical reaction it gives off... Slugs love the smell of Beer.... bury an open top can or two just under the soil nearby the pots. They will fall in....other drastic measures lightly coat your pot with vaseline or WD40.... the slick surface prevents climbing up the pot side.
Nice sharing

Thank you. Carlyle.

Can I prune in the month of December. My Coleus is tall and leggy😧love you videos
Hi Nancy...If your indoor Coleus is growing very tall but not much undergrowth then It can be continually pruned which is how you stimulate lower branch growth. Also is it getting enough Daylight? They need a good amount of bright 🌞 especially with the shorter hours of daylight
Where do you get those green and red cureved top pots?
I buy them directly at "DOLLAR GENERAL" Stores. I used to be able to order them in bulk Directly but they no longer off that so I buy them at the store
I have lots of coleus plants given to me by my relative. Some of them are wilting and I don't have any idea what to do. Some of them are still fine (I guess) but the others droop on the pots so I just put plastic forks to straighten them up. 🙁
Without seeing them or knowing a bit more its tough to help you. Wilting is usually a sign of underwatering...but it could be something more.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thanks for your reply. It seems that those with drooping leaves have either pests or rotten roots due to bad drainage. 😔
My coleus leaves are curling, what do you think the problem is?
If they are Curling down...Too much water or Downey mold..... ease off on your watering.... skip a few days in between.....make sure your pots are well drained with holes. If they are curling upward...perhaps they are getting tooo much sun at too early a stage. Not sure how old your Coleus , where you live and keep them. Let me know. Or send photos to my Instagram or Facebook page .

It can be grown indoors? I got 5 planters with good growth but had no idea about indoor development!!
Hello Anubhav In order for a potted Coleus to grow well indoors it needs to be kept in a very bright location that gets an abundance of sunlight. It doesnt need to be directly on the Coleus.
Where do you get different varieties from?
Hey Wally....You have a few choices. The easiest if you plant seeds is go to any home center Lowes Home depot etc and pick up a pack of RAINBOW COLEUS SEEDS. Or they may say " "WIZARD COLEUS" . They will offer a mixed variety of the most common Coleus.
I also sell Seeds....6 of my most favorite varieties on my Ebay listing below...

If you cut off the new growth at the tips does it keep the coleus from getting taller?
Yes. This should be done once your Coleus gets the height of your choosing...by trimming the top growth consistently that will keep it from getting taller and at the same time help fill out the bottom growth giving a nice full plant.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Thank you

Hey Ken...Thanks for the question....I hope you scan thru my many videos....I cover everything Coleus. You can keep Rootings ANYTIME. But I usually cut Rootings over the Fall & Winter...for my Spring planters also for decoration ( colored bud vases)
I do sell my Specific Coleus seeds on my Ebay. They're listed at $15 for about 5 varieties....several hundred seeds for years of planting and Sharing with friends and family. I offer a discount to my TH-cam subscribers....just click the "make an offer" of $11-12 And I will send you seeds. Here is the listing

Hi Fi Hall!! Thank You for watching and taking the time to comment as well!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus I’ve just started growing coleus from seed Jim. Probably started a bit late this year as I’m from Scotland and my plants are still quite small although the greenhouse is getting hotter now . I’m going to watch all your videos. I love coleus plants and want to grow really nice ones . The colours are amazing. I’ll plant seeds earlier next year or maybe Christmas this year as you said and hopefully they’ll be bigger . I’ll also try cuttings from any successful plants I have. Thanks Jim hope I can ask questions along the way 🙏
That coleus grow so easily

Earwigs decimated my entire tray of seedlings last year in one night. This year I am declaring war on earwigs! 😠
Sorry to hear!! Insects are definitely a problem!! Try the SAFER Insect spray soap!!

Yep, I have small dogs and my neighbors all have cats wandering around so poisons aren't an option for me at all. Needed to get creative with soy sauce and oil traps, getting the plants up out of their reach and using soap spray around the base of the pots in the evenings. Also switched to glazed ceramic pots, glass and any kind of slippery surface those little suckers struggle to climb... oh and I'm also never leaving my seedlings out unprotected after dark again... lesson learned. 😒
