Hey guys and welcome to Episode 4 of my No Experience Van Conversion Series. In today's video I explain how to install and fully sound deaden the inside of the van. I used products from a company called DODO Mat and they were great and it really has made a big difference to reducing the noise inside.

We completed our van conversion about 4 months ago , the best source of information out there in my opinion is Camper Vibes channel. Lou and Emily completed a Citroen Relay ( Same shape van) conversion and without that channel our Van wouldn't look anywhere near how it does today. Lou makes in depth videos on literally every part of the build, and anything you're unsure of you can probably find a video from them.
We opted for a stealth approach and we didn't regret it one bit, but each to their own . It's your van, you make decisions that would best suit your needs.
Any questions i'd be happy to help. I like to think I've managed to learn something over the 6 months of shouting and swearing. 😂

Put as many windows in as you possibly can, is my advice. You want maximum visibility driving but also when parked up. Imagine being in the most beautiful scenery but it's raining and you can't enjoy the view. You can always make removable reflectix blind for windows for privacy and insulation. Check out a Canadian TH-camr called Eric Enjoys Earth for some tips he's got sound advice, having done van life for many years. Love your videos mate, it's coming along great!

Put in windows on the back doors Will. Lying in bed watching the sunset or sunrise, or just watching the world go by, never gets old. I would also suggest that both side windows have slide openers so that you get a nice through draught on hot evenings when you're tucked up inside. One slider does f*** all..

  • @NomaddUK
    @NomaddUK 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This advice may be a bit late pal but the trick with the aluminium foil is to not cut it but tear it and leave the end with a longer piece of backing layer so it's easier to separate. Also turn your van internal lights off or you'll kil your battery very quickly. I remember all of your struggles and I'm glad it's not just me. I learned over time as will you. Well done.

Lil tip .. fold a small (5mm ish) corner of the aluminium tape over (shiney to shiney) then you can easily use your thumb to peel the white backing off to get you started =)

  • @waynemellor9887

Haha that foil tape stuff frustrated me for ages while doing my convertion! Eventually figured I out tho. So peal a little bit of the paper side of the end while it's still on the roll, then when you need a length pull out as much as you need peal the white back but DONT RIP it off just rip the foil. Let me know how you get on. 😁

Ladi and Margaret are a great source for inspiration but he is a perfectionist (his homemade E Bikes are insane)
Make sure any windows you put in are tinted to keep yr stealth..
The thing that might freak you out with not being able to see outside, is when you hear movement or other vehicles next to you 😆 you always think that you are the reason for them being there when in fact they have no interest in you at all 🤪
Loving the Van build series mate 🤙🏼🚐💨❤️

IF you accept my recommendation, put small windows in the back doors and insulate the doors with the DODO Mat. On the side door, I don't know if you're going to put a window, but if so, do the same, but with a bigger window. On the side wall, a reasonably sized window and on the ceiling, a skylight or something that can be opened for cooking or even for airing during the nights and preferably with a net to prevent the entry of insects. Don't cut the windows yourself. Look for a professional, because if you fail, it can be expensive. Keep up the good work.

I can sympathize with the rear doors window dilemma. When I tried to order, they were out of stock for 3 weeks, so I drove around like that until they came back into stock. Once they were available, I couldn't decide one way or the other, but the wife said she wouldn't drive the van unless she could see out of the back with a rearview mirror, so I fitted them. Wow, what a difference! Especially if you are not a confident big vehicle driver. Just being able to clearly see everything behind you, along with the door mirrors, is a must in my book. Not just that, spending time in the back is soooo much nicer when you have a view. I appreciate the stealth factor, but curtains are no big deal, and privacy tinted glass make it almost impossible to see though them during the day. If you are unsure, tape a large piece of cardboard to the rear window or your car, and drive around a bit. Seriously, just try it.

I'd say add the rear door windows, that way you can get a sunset/rise guaranteed, regardless of which way you're parked, and it'll be handy for backing up and stuff even with the camera you already have. Opening windows in the back are great for ventilation especially if you put a fan in front.

Thank you for uploading have a great weekend and stay safe will .if you are planning to have view from back than you can have windows overall depends on your design and how you are planning to use the back of your van.and a tip use dry ice to remove old or new insulation it comes of easily.

add windows in the back, you can always add a curtain or something also for more privacy, you'll get more light and airflow at night's

Nice mention of Ladi and Margaret, was going to suggest them to you Will. been watching them too. Also take a look at Dares Drives, doing a 4x4 Mercedes van conversion, awesome guy, learning as he goes as well and shows a lot, been at it for over a year and making good progress.

A couple of skylight would be good as extra ventilation. Just remember, the more windows that you put in the less secure it will be.
