Also FYI, the tiny pinhole located above the depth sensor (center black pill) is only a noise-cancelling microphone, do not cover that one. The content creator (Blunty) released an update of that video today mentioning that he was mistaken, there are actually two mics right in the air-intake edge. Each one placed right below the front facing cameras.
I just like the way you're showing certain tips that can have multiple solutions (e.g. with professional mat or just a rug). I've seen tips n tricks of other youtubers and I've felt they haven't dug deep into what they've been showing just to make another video. Keep it up bro!
I think one of the biggest tips for the quest 3, especially if you're just watching a movie or browsing the web. Turn off the passthrough if you don't need to have it on. In my experience it chews though battery.
What pisses me off is all these random guys can make the Quest 3 better with enhancement tools or turn ANY of the 10s of thousands of flat games into true VR games from their basements yet multi million dollar companies with teams of 200 cant or refuse too! We should have 100000 games converted into VR by now instead these companies are wasting time trying to make ho hum vr games. Come on Meta the games over the past 30 years can become VR. Hire that guy doing all this from home!
The games are copyrighted. Even individual assets such as in-game music all belong to someone and have licensing restrictions. The "guy doing this from home" can try to ignore the problem and hope nobody comes after him, but a company has to do everything by the book at a huge cost or be sued.

There is a guy that made a program that it turns games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Tomb Raider...etc...into a VR game. My point is why isnt the developers and companies that MADE the flat versions not just making a ton of money by turning THEIR OWN GAMES into VR!!! They own the rights to the games. If ONE guy can make a program to turn games that werent even made for VR into a VR game then why arent the gaming companies doing this?

No. Understandable assumption, though. The issue is that most battery packs do not support fast enough power delivery to be able to stop the headsets' battery from dropping. I have higher end ones that support fast charging options, but most people do not, and they tend not to be very cheap.
@doc1time75 you just need one that can do its max of about 18W charging. I've heard the quest throttles charging speeds when it gets hot, so doing what you can to keep it cool is a great idea when going for long playing sessions. Most of its heat is dispursed into the casing and out the thin vent gaps, so don't add those silly rubber cases while playing since they can insulate it.
A quick recommendation on WiFi routers for using it wirelessly from PC might have been cool. But I guess most people can just use whatever router they already have.

never had a vr heaset and was thinking of geting one for christmas as a treat. does the bobo vr techinally give you 4 hours of playtime per session ie 2 hours form the quest then a further 2 hours or so from bobo ? its the battery life thats putting me off in choosing this or psvr 2. i mean even some movies are longer than 2 hours so it would be a pain watching or am i missing somthing. thanks
@@GameNwatch82the power draw is variable. watching movies won't drain as much as a graphically intensive game. When I'm watching a 3d Blu-ray in 4xvr or playing a game that doesn't have demanding graphics the Bobo battery stops the main battery drain or makes it drop slowly (only 10-20% an hour). With more graphically intense games, or games I upped the resolution a lot in QuestGamesOptimizer I probably wouldn't be able to even finish using the full capacity of my second Bobo battery but even then it seems a bit overblown to me (how often are you going to play longer than ~3.5 hours) Anyhow if you're watching a movie you could just plug it in while watching with a long usb-c cable. Don’t take that as an argument in favor of the q3 over psvr2, although I do think it’s a better beginner device (RE Village and Gran Turismo are great but are not great comfort level as far as vr motion sickness - theres more stuff to do while waiting for vr legs to develop, although the balance may be even more in favor of q3 if you had a pc good enough for pcvr i.e. Alyx, some of the flat 2 vr mods, other pc only stuff)
I have ordered my quest 3 before the launch. It still has not arrived. It is one of the 3 major sellers in my country. They are saying it is due to their supplier (meta) not delivering many headsets. Guess it could always be worse though!

I bought mine off Amazon on Thursday the 9th, the estimate was originally that it was gonna arrive between the 21st and the 24th but then things got updated and it's due to arrive on the 13th now (sometime today). I might just be lucky though! I am on the West coast of the USA, in case that's helpful to anyone reading this.

Nice one Mike! Apparently, the Quest 3 microphone is behind the charging pins. This might look tidy, but it is a really bad design decision as it is too close to the mouth and nose and is more sensitive to breathing and popping. There is also a noise cancelling mic just above the depth sensor, but as it has a different orientation to the lower mic, noise cancelling becomes more challenging. By comparison, the quest 2 mics were much better placed, evenly spaced next to each of your cheek bones.
Always a good and informative video from you, Mike. Out of interest, what was the game you were showing near the end, (the one with the ghosts and the mansion) it looks graphically superb.
That's The 7th Guest. I recorded that gameplay from the PC version but the Quest version is also excellent. Really great game! I highly recommend it if you like puzzle games []-)

It's a puzzle game, and I've not played the remake but I agree the graphics look real nice, and I've heard the 3D video of the ghosts looks cool. I played the original game as a kid, seeing actual moving video in a game on a PC was mindblowing at the time.
I played this game on Windows 3.1 in 1993 when it first came out. It’s been a standard game in my library of gaming throughout the years and I was floored to see it on the Meta Store. The port is fantastic and gives the same feelings as it’s first edition in ‘93.
I love my Quest 3. The battery life is terrible so you will need to either plugged it in or use the BOBOVR strap. But even then the BOBOVR batteries don't last all that long.

The thing about the passthrough is it's actually pretty clear in good lighting conditions. The post processing kills the image, especially when moving around and of course in poor light. I was in a well lite room and I looked at my watch and I was staggered how clear the 18 PPD image was, you could see every scratch plain as day. I can fully understand why Apple had a seperate processor for this stuff and as good as the Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 is, it's woefully short in meeting the demands of the live passthrough image processing.
Will you do an updated video or short on how to go live on Facebook since they reimabled it? I can't be the only one that can't figure out how to make it work.
I think the microphone issue is effecting random headsets, myself, my flatmate and my friend in american's microphones all sound completely fine, not distorting, popping, perfectly clear

External mics are the way to go mate. Something like the Rode Wireless Go II is a great mic for capturing gameplay commentary. Good luck with the channel []-)

I haven't had any issues with the microphone. When I recorded a video with it I didn't have any plosives. I hope it can be fixed ar adjusted for other people dealing with it though. The mobile app casting is where I have issues. It's usually low quality and very laggy and stutters.
It's weird but I've asked a few folks and they didn't hear a difference in mic quality on the Quest 3 vs the Quest 2, but I honestly don't know, maybe I'm being lied to.
Greetings back from Germany. I can tell you about the original elite strap with battery: the battery life is about double and there is active battery management. That means you can see the battery percentage of the additional battery separately in vr and the straps battery is used first! With a normal power bank or other straps you only constantly charge the internal battery. You also have the advantage of a charging port at the back of the strap that charges both batteries. It took quite some time for me to decide if I should get the bobo one or the original one was I only had some suspicions and precious little hard information. I am now happy with my decision even though it's double the price of the bobo. Hope that helps a bit.

Yep, for watching movies etc it's fine but I wouldn't really recommend it for gaming because as you say, it kinda defeats the whole point of having a Quest 3 []-/
You should make a video on those 8000 mah rgb battery straps that are all over Amazon. I would be interested to see if they actually provide 8-9 hours of playtime like the companies say they do. Also the design for the head strap is one I’ve already seen used by three different companies, all being different prices from around fifty, up to eighty American Dollars.
I actually have one of those 8000 mah battery pack added headsets and no, it does not last 8-9 hours. At least not while gaming. The max I’ve gotten is “close” to 5 hours. For the sake of this let’s just say 4.5 which in my opinion is still pretty solid but I really wished it did what it said…
I have a Bobo VR M3 with hot swappable battery pack. I read everywhere that it still drains the battery of the Quest 3. Maybe that's true with standalone, but with streaming PCVR wirelessly it prevents the draining of the Quest 3's battery. Tested this with 80 hz and around 40% brightness.
Hot take. The battery life is not that bad. 1 and a half hour is enough for a gaming session. I had myself stopping because I was bored or I had to do something else. I never had my quest 3 dying when I still wanted to play. For me it’s not that big of a deal
@@whichri79 When playing through Half Life Alyx I had play sessions that we around 3-4 hours in my OG Frankenquest with a battery pack added. Also with Resident Evil 4 as well. Love that game, even though it crashes most of the time when I die haha
The rating on Steam for this game has bombed, it's down to mixed because the latest patch completely destroyed the game in some ways intentionally and some ways unintentionally, meaning that it won't get fixed. Maybe you should do a video about that, that might scare the devs, since the collapse of the Steam rating clearly hasn't impressed them.
the biggest problem for me with the casting is that it doesn't pick up the microphone, only the game sound, if you record a video, very nice the split screen recording mode, having no voice is kind of stupid in my opinion.... if you cast on the browser you have both mic and game sound, but obviously you can't make split screen video like in the phone app
2:15 not true.. 9:40 what a great tip, save battery life but many users dont like 72hz flickering at bright scenes. now way. 80Hz is a must for flickerfree experience
Hey Mike! You seem to be watching Netflix in mixed reality pass-through. How are you doing it? I have seen some people say it works with VD but it doesn't for me. It the screen becomes black and even the app stops working completely. It must have something to do with the anti-piracy protection.
I just got the quest 3 thinking that the Pass through camera would be a upgrade from quest 2 ..... nope its still grainy just with colour, and the sound is slightly less quality in my opinion , there's still bad anti aliasing and a ring shadow round the lenses it's a problem, I don't see any upgrades here , I'm just hoping that they do updates to fix this , im only saying this because I paid almost £500.... I expected a new experience, and only getting quest 2 experience, I know its early days but I'm not impressed for the price , however that rocket pass through game was dope
If your passthrough is just as bad as your quest 2 but with colour. Then the headset is defect or the room isn't lit enough. If you're having grainy image in daylight then I'd return the headset.
I only agree on the aliasing part. But that is a software thing. I was actually surprised how a simple graphic style like in Rec Room still looks much worse than PCVR (also with the Quest 3). And that is caused mainly because of the absence of anti aliasing (which of course needs a lot of computing power). The screens and lenses are wayyyy better than the Quest 2.
hi, yesterday i got my new meta quest3 and while downloading my free wrath2 game my battery died. is there any possibility to get it back ? battery is draining very fast and i am disappointed with it. can i connect power bank and use quest 3 for long time ? when i play TH-cam in full screen it is screening on top side and unable to get it straight to my eyes any suggestions for new users ?
I can't believe that a channel like yours doesn't talk about the broken WiFi on the Quest 3 that makes PCVR almost unusable (Meta and TP-Link acknowledged the issue) because of the crazy bitrate fluctuation that doesn't happen with the Quest 2. There is 36 pages now in Meta forums and Reddit has more and more topics about this. 😟
@@HxRMotorsportsThe bitrate is fluctuating for everybody, but of course the faster you wifi is, the less you'll be impacted. A simple test is to use VD, display the debug overlay, shake your head while checking the bitrate. It shouldn't change at all.

anyone got any good suggestions for headphones or earbuds? I'm using Sony XM3's but the design of the elite strap means they never fit tight to my head so keep moving around. I've seen the Anker earbuds with wifi dongle but i just know they won't have much bass, will any earbuds with a wifi dongle work or only the officially licensed ones? 99% of my VR time is for music or fitness apps so i really need good sound quality with a nice amount of bass

Gameoptimizer 3D Videorecording works fine BUT filming in questbrowser or youtube i have no sound !!! turning on the micro dont helps - long searching on internet und gameoptimizer faq NO RESULT. strange but my micro is even much clearer than in your video -may be its better mechanicel adjusted by meta -
That last tip is really disappointing. You either choose between buying a new strap or sacrifice your experience. That's kind of sad. I think I will just stick with my quest 2 and psvr2.
After the quest 2 I gave it to my son and stayed with psvr and the psvr2 is way better. Feel of headset, visuals while haptic feed back on headset is fantastic. Each rumble is different to what is going on in game wether up close, far away and big or small.

You are correct! the Noise Callening Mic is in the Pill shape at the front and the main mic is in the metal meg pins for the dock..

I haven't had any issues with the microphone. When I recorded a video with it I didn't have any plosives. I hope it can be fixed ar adjusted for other people dealing with it though.
The mobile app casting is where I have issues. It's usually low quality and very laggy and stutters.

It's weird but I've asked a few folks and they didn't hear a difference in mic quality on the Quest 3 vs the Quest 2, but I honestly don't know, maybe I'm being lied to.

Greetings back from Germany. I can tell you about the original elite strap with battery: the battery life is about double and there is active battery management. That means you can see the battery percentage of the additional battery separately in vr and the straps battery is used first! With a normal power bank or other straps you only constantly charge the internal battery. You also have the advantage of a charging port at the back of the strap that charges both batteries.
It took quite some time for me to decide if I should get the bobo one or the original one was I only had some suspicions and precious little hard information. I am now happy with my decision even though it's double the price of the bobo.

Yep, for watching movies etc it's fine but I wouldn't really recommend it for gaming because as you say, it kinda defeats the whole point of having a Quest 3 []-/

You should make a video on those 8000 mah rgb battery straps that are all over Amazon. I would be interested to see if they actually provide 8-9 hours of playtime like the companies say they do. Also the design for the head strap is one I’ve already seen used by three different companies, all being different prices from around fifty, up to eighty American Dollars.
I actually have one of those 8000 mah battery pack added headsets and no, it does not last 8-9 hours. At least not while gaming. The max I’ve gotten is “close” to 5 hours.
For the sake of this let’s just say 4.5 which in my opinion is still pretty solid but I really wished it did what it said…

I have a Bobo VR M3 with hot swappable battery pack. I read everywhere that it still drains the battery of the Quest 3. Maybe that's true with standalone, but with streaming PCVR wirelessly it prevents the draining of the Quest 3's battery. Tested this with 80 hz and around 40% brightness.

Hot take. The battery life is not that bad. 1 and a half hour is enough for a gaming session. I had myself stopping because I was bored or I had to do something else. I never had my quest 3 dying when I still wanted to play. For me it’s not that big of a deal

@@whichri79 When playing through Half Life Alyx I had play sessions that we around 3-4 hours in my OG Frankenquest with a battery pack added. Also with Resident Evil 4 as well. Love that game, even though it crashes most of the time when I die haha

The rating on Steam for this game has bombed, it's down to mixed because the latest patch completely destroyed the game in some ways intentionally and some ways unintentionally, meaning that it won't get fixed. Maybe you should do a video about that, that might scare the devs, since the collapse of the Steam rating clearly hasn't impressed them.

the biggest problem for me with the casting is that it doesn't pick up the microphone, only the game sound, if you record a video, very nice the split screen recording mode, having no voice is kind of stupid in my opinion.... if you cast on the browser you have both mic and game sound, but obviously you can't make split screen video like in the phone app

I just got the quest 3 thinking that the Pass through camera would be a upgrade from quest 2 ..... nope its still grainy just with colour, and the sound is slightly less quality in my opinion , there's still bad anti aliasing and a ring shadow round the lenses it's a problem, I don't see any upgrades here , I'm just hoping that they do updates to fix this , im only saying this because I paid almost £500.... I expected a new experience, and only getting quest 2 experience, I know its early days but I'm not impressed for the price , however that rocket pass through game was dope
If your passthrough is just as bad as your quest 2 but with colour. Then the headset is defect or the room isn't lit enough. If you're having grainy image in daylight then I'd return the headset.
I only agree on the aliasing part. But that is a software thing. I was actually surprised how a simple graphic style like in Rec Room still looks much worse than PCVR (also with the Quest 3). And that is caused mainly because of the absence of anti aliasing (which of course needs a lot of computing power).
The screens and lenses are wayyyy better than the Quest 2.

I can't believe that a channel like yours doesn't talk about the broken WiFi on the Quest 3 that makes PCVR almost unusable (Meta and TP-Link acknowledged the issue) because of the crazy bitrate fluctuation that doesn't happen with the Quest 2. There is 36 pages now in Meta forums and Reddit has more and more topics about this. 😟

No problems here. Not saying you haven't got problems, but I'm thinking it's more than likely a problem with your router rather than the headset.
@@HxRMotorsportsThe bitrate is fluctuating for everybody, but of course the faster you wifi is, the less you'll be impacted. A simple test is to use VD, display the debug overlay, shake your head while checking the bitrate. It shouldn't change at all.

anyone got any good suggestions for headphones or earbuds? I'm using Sony XM3's but the design of the elite strap means they never fit tight to my head so keep moving around. I've seen the Anker earbuds with wifi dongle but i just know they won't have much bass, will any earbuds with a wifi dongle work or only the officially licensed ones? 99% of my VR time is for music or fitness apps so i really need good sound quality with a nice amount of bass

That last tip is really disappointing. You either choose between buying a new strap or sacrifice your experience. That's kind of sad. I think I will just stick with my quest 2 and psvr2.
People need to be aware bundles aren't supported for refunds. So only buy a bundle if you're totally sure.

After the quest 2 I gave it to my son and stayed with psvr and the psvr2 is way better. Feel of headset, visuals while haptic feed back on headset is fantastic. Each rumble is different to what is going on in game wether up close, far away and big or small.
