      How many miles did you get on the OEM tiers? I am at 15K, I don't think it will last for 20K.

    Love your review of numbers and real life issues owning this car. Just ordered my first Tesla and these are all useful information. Thank you!

    I take my car to costco for tire rotations! They charge me $35. You can also have your car towed there if you have a flat! I had a flat tire and i was near a local tire center, but they told me that they don’t do Tesla tires….so i ended up using Tesla mobile. I think it took about 2 hours (which was fast) because i live in miami……my tire was available in his truck! He did everything from his truck & the charge was sent to my credit card on hand for supercharging!

    Just an fyi, you don't need to rebalance after a tire rotation...

    • @RICH_E
      @RICH_E ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was gonna say the same thing... Unless you lose the wheel weights the balance will not change when rotating the tires.

      Agree. I’ve gone without rebalancing from new to replacement on tires with no issues.

    For years our homes monthly electric bill was always around $85. Then over time it worked its way to almost $350. Our gasoline bill was $400 to $500. We put solar on the house with a powerwall.
    Free charging our car and usually about a $30 to $80 credit on our electric bill. That's just a bonus. Electric cars are fun to drive. We're on the list for the Denali EV truck and the Blazer EV SUV and we ain't looking back. Daughters Mazda 6 is now $135 for an oil change. None of that with an EV.

    • @mowcowbell
      @mowcowbell ปีที่แล้ว +1

      $135 for a Mazda 6 oil change? 5qts of Mobil 1 5w-30 costs $28 from Amazon, and the oil filter costs $15. The rest of that $135 is labor??

    • @travisjames9292
      @travisjames9292 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to a different place to get the oil change.

    • @CookandBakewithSamer
      @CookandBakewithSamer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mowcowbellunfortunately, oil changes at dealerships are different in every state. A Benz 9qt synthetic cost me in Michigan in 2015. $150. Moved to Texas. The cost was $288. Now for 6 quart synthetic at a Benz dealer in Texas is now $400. Ironically, Toyota RAV4 in Texas oil change full synthetic at the dealer $80. The odd part is, a car wash place with a mechanic shop, wanted to charge $100 for semi synthetic for the RAV4. It is a crazy thing out there. I don’t have an EV yet 😊

    • @אתהברטון
      @אתהברטון ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe but you’re talking about at least $100k for the car and solar setup. Not worth it

    • @kevinlynch6799
      @kevinlynch6799 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got an oil change and suspension lube yesterday for a Toyota Sequoia and it was $92. Cheap to do on your own but it does take time, tools and experience.
      Solar Panels and a Powerwall are great but not free. I have seen the cost to be around $35,000. Average home moves every 13 years so $35,000 Install Price/13 Years=$2,692.
      Pros and Cons to everything. So Wonderful to have all these options.
      Be well.

    Discount Tire doesn't charge for balancing in Georgia. All of my rotations and balancing have been free.

    Matt, you are mentioning the 11c cost per kilowatt. Usually, there is another component: the cost of delivery, which may be also 11c or even more. For the full cost of charging, you should add the delivery cost to your electricity cost.

    • @DuyTran-to9lk
      @DuyTran-to9lk ปีที่แล้ว

      in my area, the cost of electric is 17.4 base charge + (ur kwh * 0.11c) + tax. Regardless of EV charge or not, $17.4 applied to your bill.

  • @weho_brian
    @weho_brian ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the only thing i dont like is that i have to supercharge it every 2 weeks, but my plan for this is to waterless wash and vacuum the car to make up for that time

    When you take your Tesla to Discount Tire, do they have the tire mounts or do you have to provide them? I love discount tire btw they are phenomenal.

    • @MattDanadel

      They have them and I think most of the time (if not all the time) they lift the entire car up so no need to worry about the battery

    Nice video on the overall cost but this vehicle doesn't even come closer to GLC or BMW in terms of luxury, quality and features offered such as HUD and so on.

    It is more time consuming waiting to charge you tesla rather than to do your oil change.

    What sedan only gets 19 mpg? Your mpg is way too low, mainly to reinforce your point of view. It’s more like 28-33 mpg, look it up. Plus it only takes 5 minutes to fill up. An Acura or Toyota sedan gets over 30 mpg. That would be $2800 per year and the vehicle costs over $20,000 less. Break even between gas and electric would be around 9 years, assuming you don’t have to get a new battery pack which would cost about $12,000.

    • @MattDanadel
      @MattDanadel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I compared it to a similarly priced and similarly specced vehicle. The Mercedes AMG GLC and BMW X3M are both in line in terms of price, spec, HP, size, etc with the Model Y. Sure you can buy an HR-V, C-HR, Highlander, etc and save a bunch in terms of sticker price and things like that. Also purchasing a new battery pack out of pocket is rare. 8 year warranty. Tesla’s batteries can also last 300,000 to 500,000 miles. The same can’t be said for other EV companies and other EVs.

    • @user_z01
      @user_z01 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jc why would you compare to a vehicle that costs 20k less and shares almost no similarities? You don't choose to either buy a model Y or a Kia forte. You choose between options with comparable price range

  • @KingTode
    @KingTode ปีที่แล้ว +2

    where do you live where charging rates are only $0.11/kwh while gas prices are $4.20/gal? in the bay area california, the charging rates are closer to $0.25/kwh and the gas prices are a little over $4/gal at costco.
    are you using local gas rates or national average? a lot of youtubers cherry pick their stats and always compare the lowest charging rates with the highest gas prices to make the tesla fuel savings seem so much higher than reality
    also tesla's are luxury vehicles by price and acceleration, but that's pretty much it. that's why i compare them to fords, gmc, and even toyota in terms of "quality". so to compare the cost of ownership against a GLC AMG is not really fair. the GLC AMG is much more luxurious than a tesla and its not even close. it's probably more fair to compare the cost of ownership with a base GLC or something more economical. i dont think the average buyer is comparing teslas with german luxury vehicles as much as they are with other practical cars/wagons

      @navigator487 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in San Diego, CA. I have solar, but it's break even right now and there's no practical way to add more. So the best rates will be the EV-TOU-5. $16/mo. fixed charge and about 15 cents/kWh if you charge between 12 am and 6 am. But by using the TOU-5, it increases other off and on-peak rates from the standard plan. Then the state of CA charges up to $175 per year on your registration b/c you have an EV. And insurance will be higher than an equivalently priced ICE. For lower-mileage users (6,000 miles per year?), the after-purchase economics aren't there. However, the juicy incentives ($9,500 in CA if you are in the right income range for trailing and current year) make the EV attractive. And there's no way a Tesla has the build quality of my 16-year old BMW, which has the same range (almost 500 miles hwy) as when it came off the line. Tesla is a premium product, not a luxury one but it's priced accordingly after the tax credits ($41k LR MY vs. $49k BMW 430i Gran Coupe).

    Just an FYI: EVs like Teslas wear out their tires much faster because the car is heavier. They also spread more pollution as they wear down rubber faster, and require more tires to be manufactured. And you cannot compare a Tesla, with its Toyota Corolla interior, to a BMW or a Mercedes. Teslas have terrible build quality, they’re s***.
