I am a Florida LEO instructor and do a lot of LEOSA quals. I’ll try to address the questions. No, this is not the G license qual, this is the new Florida LE qual for recruits, active and retired. No, each state is different, this is the new Florida qual, effective 07/01/2024. Yes, revolvers are still allowed, but you better be s$&t hot to fire 12 rounds with a reload in 20 seconds and get your hits. Smaller magazines are fine, you just have to comply with the number of rounds in each phase. No scoring zones. Anywhere on the main body of the silhouette, including breaking a line is good. Arms are a miss. And YES-please contact your member of congress about HR-354. That will clean up all of the issues with LEOSA, including making a standard qualification. Just did my last LEOSA class on the old course. I would estimate at least 50+% of the retirees that I dealt with won’t come close to passing the new standard
Good info. I continue to be one of the only retirees who wear a ballistic vest to qualify. Have you all not looked around? I’ve seen people show up intoxicated, drop loaded weapons, laser their neighbors, get in heated arguments with range staff, slice their hands open with the slide… it’s rather scary.
Amazing how LEO quals have gotten easier over the years. We used to have have multiple reloads and clearing of malfunctions. My former department guilty of it as well.
Excellent video, Andy. Are there different target zones for each of the six stages, or is it the entire silhouette throughout? (In Wisconsin, we use a smaller scoring zone for 3 and 7 yard shooting line, and full body silhouette for 15 and 25 yard shooting line.). Thanks!
The only description on my HR218 card of the weapon used was semi-auto, nothing more. To me, that meant, if you qualified with a semi-auto, you have to carry a semi-auto.
Before I retired from the FEDs our attorney at FLETC stated there is no specific requirement for both revolver or semi. It doesn’t specify in LEOSA if are qualified in one you are good on the other. No different than if your primary duty gun gets say unserviceable most agencies you don’t qualify in the replacement gun. My state does that with the exception of the ones trying to make money by charging and making folks run a second gun. They have always made it more complicated than it should be!
@@parker701chief9 I would imagine between segments the shooter would be allowed to reload a smaller capacity magazine, just so that the magazine runs dry when the mandatory reload falls in the sequence of fire.
I think they changed it to only one firearm, revolver or semiautomatic, when I Irequalified in NY the instructor said we need to fire only one weapon and that would qualify for both
@dougmitchell5435 in NewYawkistan it is still referred to as HR-218 ..You're welcome. Yes correct words matter [HR-218 not HR228] but in different areas, states, & time zones we're actually all different
@@cyndeet7443 In addition to being an LE retiree covered by this, I am a lawyer (prosecutor, civil division now) and imprecise citations to the law make me cringe.
The "range antics" you are referring to are actually REQUIRED during this new qualification... We didn't make up with qual but this is how they expect everyone to do it thus we have to teach it this way.
For those criticizing his search and assess it’s not his fault. FDLE mandates tactics on a range qualification again poor on them for doing that. It’s stupid and dumb, but in order to qualify in any law enforcement capacity in Florida weather law enforcement or hr218 you have to search and asses before holstering.
Every video I watch is conducted with full size duty guns and exterior holsters. I might speculate that a full size handgun could not be effectively carried concealed by the vast majority of our brother and sister law enforcement officers. The result- less LEOS with firearms in malls, schools, retail stores, or anywhere. Self Defeating!
That's a good point. This qual has generous enough time standards that it should be manageable even with a sub/micro compact gun like a P365 for a competent shooter. Would be worth trying to run it in a concealed format with smaller guns as well.
Where do I begin. This "hot" mess really sucks. No street cop had anything to do with this range dance. Entirely too much dancing around. This is a desk jockey qualification. A Glock 36 only holds 7 rounds and is a very good carry weapon for off duty. Mags should be loaded in 5 round increments to take advantage of 10 & 15 round mags. This takes way too long, this is more about combat than self defense. Street uniformed training and LEOSA should not be the same. I am a retired LEO with 30 yrs active duty & 50 yrs of weapons handling. You will need to learn how to evaluate your surroundings when sh*t hits the fan not at the range.
OMFG what is this? Dance Dance Revolution or that weird song from the '90's? Step 1: shooter assume...... Step 2: blah blah blah. step 3: Step left, WTF! WTF is wrong with you all? How about you give us a target, a threat level, a time limit, and say go at it boys? Nope, FDLE is trying to make us miss our target now boys. I get that standing still and shooting was a thing for a while, but in all practicality, LEO training facilities cant always afford the opportunity for hundreds or thousands of LEO's to qualify by running around in outdoor ranges doing the Macarana! Just like there cannot be a policy for every situation an officer encounters, there cannot be a way to train people to not get shot. Ditch this BS now

HR 218 brothers google HR 354, new bill proposed in congress that benefits us.
Is this the new qualification for the G license?
Andy thank you. What’s the best way to practice if you don’t know what’s required.

Hi, Andy.
Why won't you answer Robert's questions?
Andy Nice editing job, 7 yard line after reload 5 rounds..
In the early days of HR218 qualifications the weapon you qualified with was the one you were required to carry. Has this changed?
The only description on my HR218 card of the weapon used was semi-auto, nothing more. To me, that meant, if you qualified with a semi-auto, you have to carry a semi-auto.

My HR-218 buddies asked, what if they don't have 13rd magazines?
Florida has no restrictions on mag capacity. They can purchase one
They can go back to komifornia.
What if their HR218 CCW does not have 13 round capacity? Did you think about that one FDLE?
@@parker701chief9 I would imagine between segments the shooter would be allowed to reload a smaller capacity magazine, just so that the magazine runs dry when the mandatory reload falls in the sequence of fire.
How does this work in an indoor range where you can’t step left or right?
What about qualifying with revolver for HR218.
I think they changed it to only one firearm, revolver or semiautomatic, when I Irequalified in NY the instructor said we need to fire only one weapon and that would qualify for both

They changed the rules, you can use a revolver or semi automatic weapon to qualify
Well done
Is this also for EFT ?
It has not been HR228 since it was enacted. The proper reference citation is LEOSA, or 18 usc 926b or c depending on status. Words matter.

N O ! ! !
Absolutely not . Totally different in NYS and much harder .
Florida.
lol love the range antics. Looking behind left and right… no one does this in real life it’s a rangism.

"Range Antics" LOL. Clearly the people who invent some of these postures and antics have never been involved in real combat.
Similar to how my qualifications were when i was an active member. Only turned our heads so there were no weapons pointing anywhere but down range.
Yes it is! It’s so “unrealistic” you are soooo right!
I know sir, but it doesn’t make it “not ridiculous”@@TacticalFirearmsAcademyFL
