    The old air marshal test is really about being fast but slowing it down to get consistency. The pars are relatively easy for a skilled pistol shooter to meet, but not messing up(especially in a test environment where everyone is watching you) is hard. I like to run one with the boys everytime someone gets a totally new kind of carry gun.

      I believe that anyone who trains regularly would be capable of shooting this drill, because it looks like main focus on skills other than shooting
      I would be able to get the hits despite having relatively little amount of practice, but reloads and shooting with a draw are skills that take time and practice and I would not be able to do those
      It's one of those more reasonable tests, but also the one that shows the real level of competence with a firearm

      It's possible to do it from a safariland lvl 3 retention holster as well. Takes some practice though.

    This was ran after 9/11 during ramp up of FAM program with stock sig 229 in 357 sig and the holster was a desantis pancake snap top that they made you snap every time. So also no appendix carry which IMO is a quicker draw. If you failed you went home. Agency transitioned to G19 about 3 years ago. And this qual is no longer used except for training.

    • @JJLTACTICALSOUTIONS
      @JJLTACTICALSOUTIONS 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FEAR_Actual the TPC (tactical pistol course) is no longer used because it was to hard for the younger generation to pass. So I can’t answer that question for you. All I can say is when I was at the academy right after 9/11 the test was done and the weapon was the Sig 229 chambered in .357 Sig.
      If I was like you and wanted to see if you could pass the original TPC, you would have to cut off some of the times due to the fact most people use the 9mm with optics now. For example, stage 1 when you have to draw and hit the target in under 1.65 seconds, I would lower that par time to maybe 1.25 seconds.
      But again the TPC is no longer used because today’s Air Marshals are pussies when it comes to firearms. I mean come on, all they have to pass is the regular law enforcement test called the PPC and my 12 year old son could pass that.
      I spoke about this in a video on my page and wrote an article about it as well:

    The AM quals are no joke. It’s the time standards that will get ya. The fact that they have to do this cold come time for quals makes it even more challenging. When I did these on my own I struggled with the times until I figured out the pacing and rhythm.

  • @marlow769
    @marlow769 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    I don’t want to overly nitpick but your “low ready” is held far higher (and just below “point-shoulder”) than the trainers allow. Air Marshal’s low-ready is with elbows fully bent and the gun fully retracted back to within a few inches of the chest in order to have the weapon in a more protected/secure fashion.
    This makes the qualifier extend the firearm farther and acquire the target - a little more costly in terms of time but in practice, more protective of the gun.
    Using their technique will give you more realistic qual times.

    Your target was much harder than the one that you’re supposed to use. You scored 100%. You get 2 points for outside the bottle. Your target was smaller than the bottle. The ones you counted as misses would’ve been full points.if any of your misses would’ve been in the brown cardboard they would’ve been 2 points.

    • @DaBigBR
      @DaBigBR ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The correct target for this COF is the QIT-03, which has a "normal" Q shape with a smaller "bottle" inside that is the 5 point zone. Hunter's boxes are probably a little wide for the QIT-03, but the QIT-03 center is much taller.

    Almost every video on the original qual does it with the wrong target. The correct target resembles an FBI Q with the bottom cut off. In the center of the Q is a long narrow column, the lower third being four inches wide and the upper third being three inches wide.. That narrow column is the high scoring section. These can be found at Action Targets online.

    Howdy! Do I understand correctly that you must be under par time for each station, or it is a DQ? That's what I think the instructions mean, but it is a little vague. Or, do you just have to be under the 33.8 total time and 5 or less misses (135 points) to pass? If you DQ by being over time in any one station, it seems the scoring weights time over accuracy as you could have up to 5 misses, be under time and still pass? It seems to me accuracy should weigh more than time. Like zero misses and under a total of 33.8 seconds or something like that? So, you could be a little over time on one station, but guarantee the hit, and be under time on other stations, also guaranteeing the hits, and as long as you're under 33.8 total seconds, you pass. What do you think? Thanks!

    The original test you had to use the following:
    Sig Sauer 229 chambered in .357Sig
    Target is the FBI-QIT-97
    Must wear holster on the side
    Must wear a cover garment and draw from concealment (a jacket)
    No optics (use standard sights)
    No aftermarket parts and the weapon is stock (the shooter on this video used a weapon with optics and a competition trigger)
    Automatic failure if you don’t make any of the par times.
    On the stages when you start with the weapon out of the holster, the weapon has to be at the modified high ready (weapon pressed up against the chest with the barrel pointed down range)
    On the target the center ring is 5 points, the next outer ring is 2 points. 135 to pass with a max score of 150. 30 rounds fired.
    Must be shot cold with no warm ups on the day of the test, must shoot in front of entire class alone, if you fail after 3 attempts you are basically fired so the stress level is high.
    I can’t seem to find a single video on TH-cam that shows someone trying this while using the Sig 229 chambered in .357 Sig
    YES, I did pass the original FAM TPC using the Sig 229 chambered in .357

    What you do not have to deal with is the stress that some of the instructors put you under. You are by yourself and not in a qualification environment. Some of the young Air Marshal instructors, are straight out of Special Ops or Former Contractors. They set up an environment to see how you perform under stress. Also you are shooting your Gucci rig, your issue weapon may have pretty poor trigger. If the Armorer says it is within spec, you are stuck with it. Still a nice video.

      @@donc7984 no argument there. Age has overtaken me, I did my stint in the barrel. “Defensive tactics” as they are called caught up with me. How many times will your joints withstand pain suppression tactics practice without injury? It used to be that 55 was the max age for federal law enforcement. I have not kept up with it. I still shoot but even gave up competition. Even in F-Class, you are expected to do pit duty. Yep lugging a camera even is a challenge, ever carried a Nikon Z9 and long lens?
      Now that being said, I recently started doing hand strength exercises and general conditioning and stretching. Pistol shooting is a very perishable skill. Also I started using a green dot, I am still not as fast as I am with Irons but see that as a potential help.

    while he is a good shooter one thing to consider is that Air Marshals are a federal agency. So using a competition pistol is probably not going to happen for qualifications.
