The new big questions that keep the mystery going in Oshi no Ko.
We'll go over the content of those DVDs and what they mean, and we'll try to find out what the film will be about - eventually leading into Aqua's plan.
There's also a bunch of information on Ai Hoshino that might just pull a 180 on her character. Black stars, pacts, deities, manipulation, plenty to fall into place. What if Ai knew of her eventual fate?

The part about Ai being unable to prevernt her "fate" is really interesting becasue it could be the link between Ai and the supernatural. If the supernatural will play an important part, or any part xD, then this could be it.
I really hope not because outside the setup for the reincarnation there hasnt really been much and I really hope it stays that way
@@tekbox7909 I don't think that's a popular take to make. Everyone whose seen the show/read the manga are always left wondering "what's the point of the reincarnation when you can make the kids just be absurdly genius at their age?"
The idea that fate is not able to be rewritten kind of loops together both Ai and the kids' past lives. The Doctor that was not able to resist a sudden death subjected onto him, and the Patient who was struck with an illness that forbid her to live a life she always dreamed of, and died as such.
It would make sense that the epiphany of the series would tie into Ai's final thoughts and wishes, and that the reason these two are fated to be reincarnated into Aqua and Ruby is because their past lives are meant to be the answer to Ai's sentiment and fate.
I mean looking at it from a supernatural point of view, if the theory she made a deal with the "Devil" or Mephisto, she's basically supposed to mirror Faust in that sense. Mephisto could be Hikaru and he opened a whole new possibility for her in her life. In Faust, the protagonist dies once they find a reason to find life genuinely beautiful. Didn't Ai also die when she finally was able to love her children as well? Her deal was that she gave up her virginity, her dignity, and purity to Hikaru aka Mephisto in exchange for fame and to pursue her dream of discovering love. Once she found it, it was her undoing. Her son is following in her footsteps where he is giving up his humanity to get his revenge. All tie back to Hikaru Kamiki as a representation of Mephisto, which ties to the ending theme of the anime series and the lyrics of it.
@@kingdomdani The theory is beautiful, and I wanna believe part of that is indeed the case, but one thing bugs me. Wasn't Ai not really intending on joining the business anyways? I don't think she'd make a deal to improve her standing if she knew she didn't want it anyway, and was only convinced to do so because the manager said she'd be a natural at it.
Idk, maybe, if she were to make a deal, it'd be centered around her misanthropy. Her disdain for humans, but longing to learn to love them truthfully. Maybe being an idol is the deal's means, and not the end. Maybe it was a path laid out for her, in order to fulfill her end of the wish: to get to love her children.
Idk where the reincarnation plays and why the game extends to not only one life but three, so i guess me spitballing here ain't leading nowhere..

There's no way Ai planned her death. If your master plan is to die horribly and leave your kids with life long trauma that's a stupid plan. Pretty sure the short story 45510 gives us the information that Ai broke up with Hikaru. She just couldn't deal with his constant nitpicking. She had no idea that Hikaru sent someone to murder her and from her viewpoint a crazy stalker showed up and decided to attack her. Also the reason she didn't know how to love was because of her upbringing with an abusive mother that abandoned her, not some supernatural stuff. That's why she was nice and forgiving to Ryosuke and likely would not be forgiving toward Hikaru.
I agree I don't make sense for someone as selfish and greedy as ai to plan her own death
Yeah same I do think she might've been preparing for the worst with the DVDs since she was planning on revealing her true self with the documentary and in the end she just died even before she expected something might happen which is why only the DVDs exist but she didn't take any other measures as she didn't expect danger to come yet only at a later point in the future
well Hikaru does give out white flowers as his signiture which Ai would know. also white flowers in japan means purity and grief and most commonly found at funerals. Something to give extra meaning to the stalker presenting them to Ai, he was basically calling her pure and announcing her death. White roses also have the meaning of Devotion and silence so Hikaru was sending the meaning that he was devoted to silencing Ai.
@@user-fz9dn5bs7e one explanation I can think of is that she wanted to eventually tell everyone the truth which she knows would put her life in danger and the dvds might just be something she prepared just in case something happens to her. she might have also wanted to prepare other things but in the end she got killed by a fan who found out like she expected just that the killer didn't find out because she told the truth but other reasons causing her to be unprepared and careless as she still felt safe at the current time
@@user-fz9dn5bs7e my guess is that she wanted to reveal the truth at the dome or whatever it was called again. basically she wanted to reveal it soon. who knows there might have been more preparations we never got to see as she died before she even expected the danger to come and we only get to see the dvds cause they are the only thing that is still of relevance. but yeah we'd need more details if that was the reason for the dvds or just more details in general cause I really want to know whats on those dvds amongst other things
It does make me wonder if Hikaru became attached to Ai believing he loved her and felt betrayed when she became pregnant given the fact he was sexually abused as a small child. This would explain why he continues to visit her grave long after her death, sent the stalker with the hopes of the doctor was dead she would have complications in her pregnancy, and why he never made any attempt to reach out to his children even after Ai died. This could also end up being a dark reflection of Aqua who hates the entertainment industry and Ruby for hating liars if we learn Hikaru mainly kills women who remind him of the woman who preyed on him and Ai, believing them all to be liars.

@@kamazinghehe4670 I think OP means that Ai tricked Hikaru into getting her pregnant, and he felt betrayed because Himekawa did the same to him, which was a massive trauma for him, if we go with the very likely theory of him being groomed and raped by her

Alright but why send a fan to kill her if he loved her that much and felt betrayed? Its been shown that he is a murdered and kills easily. Surely he would take pleasure in doing it himself
I agree with you on the part where akane is in danger. the author has demonstrated the fact that he had this entire story planned out from the very beginning with the movie being hinted at from the very first chapters.
yet in the interviews following the success of the movie which we were shown in the beginning of the story, akane was not in any of them.
this could mean that ruby is the one who got Ai's role and it could also mean that akane could not be part of those interviews, either she was not part of the movie which is unlikely, or she was somehow injured or killed making her unable to be interviewed.
we know that akane is a target of hikaru kamiki because of the white flowers he gave her which so far he has given to every actress whose death he was responsible for. not to mention all of his previous targerts were extremely talented actresses who won awards, and/or had starry Eyes.
We've always have said that Akane has those "death flags" it is just if Aka and Mengo somehow kill Akane off or someone close to Ruby and Aqua that it makes them turn completely to the dark side like Kamiki.

@@younishmani5560 Totally agree with you. In actuality, Akane being killed off seems very unlikely to me given how much emphasis was placed on that (so many death flags plastered on her). We were even teased her possible death multiple times. So while it still remains an option, I think it will completely remove the effect of surprise from the twist (we will be like Ah, I mean, we all saw this coming).
I much much prefer the theory of Kana being the one hurt/attacked by Kamiki (even though I love her and want to protect her at all cost). It would actually involve Kana in the plot in a very natural way. Some people compiled some proof pointing towards that (such as the flowers being present in her interview in her first appearance, her trying to be Aqua’s ‘idol’). I think it would have a much more bigger impact and the foreshadowing would be much more clever.
Honestly, just waiting to see Kana get star eyes. It doesn’t seem impossible given the progression of the story, she finally seems confident enough to get back into acting seriously. If she has star eyes, then I’m sold.

it is either that aka akasaka inivates upon it and does not go the obvious route. which so far I believe he has done.
I mean oshi no ko is not a typical romance mystery that we are used to. so it is very possible that the author is misleading us.

What if - hear me out - it was *not* the supernatural Ai feared, but the backlash from the documentary. The documentary about the B-Komachi members was supposed to show Ai's real self. She was always paranoid about people seeing her real self and hating it, which is why she never showed her raw, authentic self. But this documentary was going to depict exactly that. What if she feared the fans' doing something to her, just like the psycho who killed her did? Then she would take the preventive measures (she'd already moved to a new house and only the people closest to her knew). But the documentary was not released yet, which is why she didn't take more measures. To anyone who's asking why she moved houses already - settling into a new house takes time. She needs to buy furniture and accommodate herself and her kids properly, and that's hard if she does it closer to the documentary release due to her busy schedule. Then the question of the tapes. Why give the tapes then? Ai was a very careful person (as illustrated by the fact that she kept three phones to prevent any leaks about her personal life) and she might have considered the possibility of her maybe getting murdered even after all this. Hence the tapes. Of course, she still would've tried more things to keep the kids safe, but like I said, the documentary was still not released. She thought she had time. But before she had time to do anything else, psycho showed up at her doorstep with some major issues and ready to kill her. Not saying it's what happened, just saying it's possible. But yeah, supernatural could also be involved cuz like.. why does the crow girl know all that stuff? I dunno let's just wait it out and see. Peace out 🗿

I like the idea that Ai wanted to reveal her lies through the documentary which would then explain why she prepared those DVDs they were a just in case measure if something happens to her after she revealed herself. The attack would then be something she didn't expect. Also from the way Ruby reacted when asked about the DVD I assumed that Aqua never gave her hers. After all at the time he was always working for Gotanda so it's not unreasonable to think that he gave both DVDs to him so that he would give one to Ruby not expecting that Aqua would hide it. As for why 15 I think that might be because she didn't want to have her children revealed to the public just then because she would want to take the brunt of the hatred and danger on herself. At the same time it would allow her children to freely choose their career even in the entertainment industry if they so wanted. At 15 they'd most likely already have made the decision and could then properly decide what to do with the information. She might also have only told Aqua about her real wish because he always acted much more mature than his age would suggest something which I'm sure Ai picked up on deciding that Aqua was the best person to decide when to reveal her final secret to the world.

Ai also mentioned in her death that she wanted to hear "aren't you too young to be Ruby's mother?" which means she would have revealed her kids to the world

I had a very similar conclusion recently. What if Hikaru genuinely loved Ai but she never loved him back? What if she used him to become a better actress so she could become an even better liar to try and love her fans? What if she used him to have children? It would make it similar to how Taichi was born, how Hikaru was abused by Airi and maybe the final straw to make him snap completely, after all the double suicide only happened years after since we heard Saitou talk about seeing it on the news alongside Ai which meant it only happened WAY later on. Of course, it doesn't mean even in the slightest that he's justified in killing anyone, but that he has a reason besides just being evil for the sake of it.
But then again this is all speculation on my part.
I think that makes sense, Ai never truly loved anyone except for the twins. It’s 2 messed up kids who got together and messed each other up even more.
I like this theory because I think it makes a lot of sense, Hikaru was only 11 when Airi was impregnated. So this could have affected his mental health and caused him to snap for being used twice.
Um the only one of his victims that deserved their death was that pedo who took advantage of him. That older female actor is no victim she definitely deserved to die. Women can be rapists and pedos
I don’t think Ai would have used him to become a better actor, but I do see them hooking up after spending a lot of time together and then realizing she doesn’t care about him as much as she thought she did, with the prego just happening
The stalker that killed Goro was likely sent by the father, implying Ai told him she was giving birth and gave him the location. If Ai could conclude he attacked her doctor and killed him, she would have a reason to predict her death. She made the dvd’s after Aqua and Ruby were born, so it’s possible she had a plan B just in case the father attacked her like he did Goro. After all, if Ai lived, she could have simply asked for the dvd’s back. Why she would endanger Aqua and Ruby is a hole in my theory, but maybe Ai knows something about the father.
But then why would Ai try introducing Hikaru to her children and even give him her new address? Surely if she suspected he had killed Goro, she'd avoid all contact and make sure he'd never find out her location. I think Ai believed something might happen to her, hence the DVDs, but it'd be due to the public backlash she'd probably receive after the documentary's release. I don't think she ever predicted dying, much less Hikaru having her murdered. If she did, she would've taken more preventative measures.
The idea that Ai is not innocent is definitely a possible one. Goro himself recognize that Ai is a selfish girl by just talking to her on that roof, plus in IDOL the OP song, Ai mentions that one day she'll have everything. Hikaru is certainly a psycho but the dude was 11 when he was taking advantage on by an older woman who later commit suicide with her husband, that definitely traumatized an 11 y.o. to the core (well unless he was a reincarnated person but that's a whole other theory). So Hikaru kept on acting as a part of Lalalei until he meets Ai. Ai tried to love Hikaru by lying but couldn't love him fully, while Hikaru actually loved her because of the way she acts, and even reveal his past to her. But Ai is still lying, she never love Hikaru, but she get the thought that she might love her children, so she took advantage of Hikaru (by poking hole on the condom or just straight up manipulating him) to impregnate her (she herself claims that she was never innocent). This enrages Hikaru as he once again betrayed by another woman and now that he has a career he tried to stop the pregnancy/kill Ai, but he failed to do that. Fast forward to 4 years later, Hikaru probably already letting go of that incident and forget Ai and her children, but one faithful day she tried to rekindle with him. This snaps Hikaru so much, plus Ai's position now is very similar to the first woman who took advantage of him (In the peak of their career), this led him to kill her indirectly. Since this incident Hikaru become a serial killer for young women in the entertainment industry who are in the peak of their career. Because he hated how two women from the exact position took advantage of him. (We can confirm this because he killed that young actress on the hiking trail). Also in IDOL Op song "The real love" is mentioned several times as it an important theme of the first episode but Love in Japanese is spelled Ai, "The real Ai" which will be also an important theme for the series.

Plus if he had never shown any signs of anger nor distain towards ai even when he went to her grave nor to any girl he targeted speaking of which it seems he target does with the star eyes (symbolizing great liars) he might not just be targeting girls but guys with the same yes aswell . From the conversation ai had with him before her death it seems he was well aware of aqua and ruby existence like he planned this all along.
I believe he didn't get taken advantage of he is just to smart for that he was the one manipulating people here probably even made the cover up of a double suicide to hide his track's.i believe hikaru much like ai had no clue what love was maybe seeing the relationship the two had he wanted to learn of it in the end manipulating the woman into having a relationship with him but it didn't work he still didn't understand it. He might have also thought that having a child would make him understand it yet also failed
As for how he meet ai . It was said she meet him on a party and that she acted differently after that day. My guess is that like ai hikaru also didn't know about love nor the meaning of it they probably got a connection because of that. They didn't start their relationship because they were in love but they started their relationship in the basis that they'll know what love is in the end both tried doing the whole having kid's plan .
When ai got pregnant she went on hiatus however we know hikaru was still keeping an eye on her since he knew were to send the killer to
Speak of which why did he tell the killer to kill gorou of all people. My guess it's due to jealousy. He has yet to understand love nor ai yet in the few months gorou was with ai he understood her more than he did. If ai and him were truly the same in the sense that they didn't understand love why did it seem that gorou understood her more.
This maybe the reason for why he had ai killed. After the twins were born it was obvious that they were still in touch however he still didn't understand not felt any love from the two once again like the first time it failed yet for ai it seemed to have succeed slowly he saw how ai payed more attention on the babies more care something that he didn't understand he never cared for his first son yet why was it different for ai. He had no attachment to ai their relationship was more of a partnership to learn what love meant yet only ai seemed to understand it. In a sense hikaru never so ai as someone he loved the feeling was mutual she was merely a tool for him to understand love.
He was secretly jealous of ai since from the looks of it the kids really made her understand what love was. What Loved meant. They were no longer the same in his eyes. Ai manage to understand love before she died yet hikaru remains not understanding it even after ai death

Why are all these theories around Ai taking advantage or the dude? Couldn’t it equally be as simple as two hot, horny, and messed up teenagers just gave into temptation after spending a lot of time with each other during a theater troop? I mean if you’ve been in a troop before you can understand it.
my theory about ai's "true" self is that it's her but much more cynical and openly critical of the entertainment industry and her fans. we saw a hint of that back at the start when she has an inner monologue where she's bitterly noting how someone called her insincere, thinking "you're all the ones that want perfection! What else do you want from me?" i wouldnt be surprised if even her final words of nothing but wanting to love her fans were played up some. She was definitely hit with some resentment at times, and i wouldnt be surprised if the footage of her real self involves a lot more bluntness and even venting about the way the public treats her.

Ai was definitely hiding something very disturbing that we don't know about yet.
Ruby didn't see her DVD, or she would've assume that was what the director was asking about. That and the short clip in ch10/post credits of ep1 is too short to be the full DVD and is structed in a why that it implies that there more that wasn't shown.
Also Ai made the DVD's when Ruby and Aqua was 1 years old, before Aqua's first role. Ai only called the father after Ruby and Aqua was 4 years old so that shouldn't effect the contents of the DVDs.
Ruby saw it. She mentioned that she recieved message from Ai when they were 15 when she met Gotanda.
I think Ai did thought she might die soon but i don't think she knew Hikaru would be the one to do it but like she said she lied so much that she expected some fan would get back at her i don't think she even knew Hikaru was the one who made plan even when she was dying but just thought a fan killed her

Ok, so last chapter we also had some decent revelations:
1. Ai is dead, straight up. She hasn't nor won't reicarnate. I didn't really consider the possibility of that happening to her, but it brought light to a kind of inner struggle Aqua was kinda facing, in a way.
2. Sarina's mom is going to work in advertisement and comunication for the movie. So, this... is pretty bad in a way, probably gonna affect Ruby and maybe make Aqua a bit mad, but for me, it looks like an oportunity for the plot to lead to them revealing who they were to each other. The last part is just speculation, just a bit of a feeling I'm having from experience.
Something I've been wondering about Hikaru - was he reborn? When I think he had his first son at the age of eleven, it does sound like a possibility to me, he would have been more mature despite his appearance. I wonder if his true goal is related to the supernatural.
I think that his similar to ai in away that he doesn't understand love.
When he was eleven he might have seen the relationship of the couple and wanted to understand it. Similar to how ai thought having kids would make her being able to finally love he tried to have a relationship with the woman to be able to understand love. Nothing came of it so he decided to try and love his own child it Also didn't work. Ultimately he had to kill the couple and covered it up with double suicide.
Then he meet ai who was struggling with the same problem of not understanding love . They started their relationship in hopes of following for one another. It didn't work.both decided that they might love their children so ai got pregnant . Hikaru felt the same as the one he had his first child with that woman he didn't love his children however it seems like his partner did. Ai seemed to slowly truly love their kids.
He kept an eye on them for a few years until eventually he had enough. He was jealous on how ai manage to love their kids while he was still unable to do so. It was their he decided that ai had to die
Always liked your theories since the Quintuplets days. Recently caught up with Oshi No Ko's manga and I'm in love with it. So it's nice to see all these theories about pretty much the same questions I have
Interesting that you mention Frill being suspicious. Tbh I didn't look at her that way and considered her "suspiciousness" to just be her normal way of being, without any ill-intention. But maybe there's more to it

You have a very interesting theory, but keep in mind that in the anime adaptation, the video that Ai filmed showed that it was at the time when the twin was 1 year old.
So I reckon she recorded the video letter each year from time to time and decided 15 is the grown up age (like you said in the video), I don’t think that she would record the past few years and the video when Aqua and Ruby was 4 seperately.

Some thing that I was think about while watching this is that Hikaru had gotten you no my the old woman and that woman had aquas half brother but we also see that the husband had killed her after finding out her secret the thing is how did he find out? We know that hikaru had lead ai’s stalker to her who is saying he didn’t do it to the old woman’s husband. Another factor is that aqua’s half brother said that this parents died when he was around 5 and when he said this he was 20 so that was about 15 years ago. 15 years ago hikaru was 16, hikaru met ai when he 15 and air was 16. This means that ai could have found out that he had killed the old woman who had done that to him. I am not sure if aqua and ruby were born that this time but we know that ai did have them either in her belly or already born. We know that goro who was aquas past self was killed by hikaru and for all I know he could have aged to 16 by the time he did this which would match up with the death of the old woman. We also never see ai talk about the fact that goro was gone not once maybe she knew that hikaru had killed him or maybe not I am not completely sure but that has been something I have wondered about. Any this was just something I wanted to say.

your analysis really is wonderful. especially how ai had the same outfit while making the phone call to hikaru and giving the dvds to gotanda. it makes me think if ai wanted to hunt down hikaru by sacrificing her life, gathering proof and leaving the rest to aqua within whom ai would've seen the intellect to crack the case and the passionate fan of hers that would compel him to take revenge no matter what.

@Lionheart goodfellow it would make for another great shock moment, but it seems kind of silly, considering it make the second time Hikaru was manipulated and taken advantage of by an older woman . I also think it would make they story way to grey in terms of direction and would lack a satisfying conclusion in the end but this is just my thought
also, I am just way too interested in seeing a possible contender for the best manga villain among the likes of griffith, and Johan make an appearance as Hikaru. I mean if we take everything presented to us at face value he's a natural born sociopath that was taken advantage of at an early age that set him on his fixation of murdering talented /starry eyed woman . it's truly fascinating, and I am looking towards the payoff of the basterd being brought to justice

Am I the only one who thinks Crow girl is actually Ai? A soul with perpetual link to time and space, so she knows everything but can't feel emotions because, subconsciously, she felt it all to the point of becoming numb.

I don't think the Crow Girl is Ai for a couple of reasons, I could be wrong ofc, but here they are:
1. I don't think Ai would push her daughter toward revenge.
2. Ai wouldn't know about Goro or the stalker + middle schooler lurking around the hospital.

Probably shows the deal she made with Hikaru about having the twins or it was a deal with the gods. I just realized how both Ai and Hikaru are the opposite of what their names mean. Hikaru is light yet does shady things while Ai means love yet couldn't love. Also the videos are probably just Hikaru saying everything he wishes he could have said before and after their births, which is why Ai would have watched them both with Ruby and Aqua. Both videos would be tailored to each twin respectively of course. Them being 15 was much earlier, but then Ai died. Kamiki hasn’t met either of them till recently. I have multiple theories about their relationship and how Aqua and Ruby came to be.
My money's on the dvd video being a total mental breakdown from Ai.

Amazing theory video! It occurred to me while watching your video that it's possible Hikaru killed Ai at that time, before her Tokyo Dome tour, to prevent the documentary from being released. Perhaps Ai had planned to talk about her children and mentioned Hikaru's association to them in the documentary (or at least give hints about his connection to them), and that's something he definitely did not want especially as he probably didn't want the children to begin with. Maybe it has to do with his own trauma at being sexually abused at a young age? Or maybe...he thought that if fans were to find out that he was the father of Ai's children, they would come and kill him - or at least his career would be forever tainted by the fact that he corrupted Ai, who was perfect in the public's eyes. But in either way, I think that's why Aqua making this documentary now is "revenge," because he would be fulfilling Ai's wish to show her real self AND also do the one thing Hikaru feared the most - which is that documentary getting released, and for him to be associated with Ai and her kids.
As for Ai's intentions, I think maybe she anticipated her own death AFTER the documentary was released, but did not expect it beforehand. Maybe she trusted Hikaru, still. Or maybe she had an intuition he might try to kill her? In either case, I agree with the idea that she may have manipulated Hikaru into getting her pregnant, or maybe it was an accident but Hikaru wanted her to get an abortion and she didn't want to get one - and that's why they broke up?

Remember how Aqua says that he dislikes acting but it is his curse. I think he knew long ago that this movie is going to be made and that he needs to act as someone. Right now he is suppose to act as the stalker but I believe he will be acting somehow as his lookalike father, the man behind the killing. This plan could also have something to do with the raven girl god who said that he has one purpose to serve with this new life and maybe acting in that movie is part of it.
I think it's possible that instead of fearing for her death, she feared her abandoning her children like her mother did to her. I think your theory is more likely, but it'd be interesting if this is the direction Aka takes it

So it almost boils down that Ai's lies doesnt just affect her world, but it also affects us readers and viewers if that supernatural theory of yours is true.

I just making a theory so if it’s wrong please call me out but is it possible that Hikaru became a serial killer of women in the entertainment industry because of his past experiences them? Although it doesn’t justify his actions it kinda makes sense. Hikaru was 15 when Ai got pregnant and he didn’t want to have children with her but she forced his hand. However this isn’t the only time Hikaru got someone pregnant. At the age of 11 Hikaru got Airi Himekawa pregnant who was an actress and already married. It was implied that Hikaru to have been raped by Airi and this is reinforced by the fact that he also didn’t want Ai to get pregnant. Hikaru Ended up killing Ai and if you put the pieces together from the manga Hikaru is also responsible for Airi murder. Hikaru Killing these two women who forcefully made him had children with them could be his own twisted revenge on them and made him hate women who are actresses and idols to the point of murder.

God this manga will do anything to keep it real. The supernatural may not be really grounded and real, but it adds interest to the plot. The fact that Ai can't bring herself to tell the truth to her children, the fact that she wanted (I think) to get pregnant and run away from Hikaru to protect her children, and the fact that maybe she really has paid the *price* for what she's done. Not saying that she's a cruel girl, but liars can't get away with everything. Trust me, I've been there. Not in this scenario God no, but in a different way of course. (I am only speaking from my understanding of the OnK story so I'm open to hearing further clarification on what Ai *truly* wanted for Aqua and Ruby.)

Ai didn't know Sarina, and she didn't know Goro well enough to recognize him in Aqua. Sarina, who knew Goro much better didn't recognize him even after being with him for 17/18 years and that's just because Aqua told her.
I think Ai knew her life was in danger, so the DVDs were a precaution, but she just didn't expect the danger to come for her so swiftly and that's why she died. I think the true Ai wasn't as clueless as she made herself out to be. Just like Ruby lied on stage to get success, Ai was playing a role made of lies non-stop. I think she genuinely believed that she could hold her own against Hikaru, but she simply underestimated him and how quickly and decisively he'd act.
I also believe everyone with star eyes in reincarnated. Ruby and Aqua both gained black stars in both eyes when they decided their current lives mattered less than getting vengeance for their past lives. For Ruby that's avenging Gorou, and for Aqua that was fighting back against the person that ruined Sarina's dream which he had associated with Ai (who his past self also considered his oshi). It's also important to note that Aqua lost his star when he stopped caring about the past and tried to just be happy as Aqua, suggesting the stars don't relate to fame, star power or necessarily even deception, since Aqua still had all those things without the stars. The only thing he lost was that obsession over his past.
The fact Ai's "true self" has black stars, and the fact that weird crow girl stated decisively that Ai had truly died, makes me think that the desire Ai held in her past life was to be truly loved and to truly love others, which was fulfilled with her children in her last moments.
