This is exactly why I'm reluctant to rewatch older shows. You remember them being really good but then...horror.

In Devil Part-Timer's case, the source material after S1 sucks. Honestly, the best thing about that series was season 1.

I heard the ending was also quite disappointing. Maybe it should've stuck to one season xD

@@SylvanesWSaying it has one of the most disappointing endings is an understatement.
Also, Season 1 only worked because of the creative team behind it. If the studio that made S2 also made S1, it wouldn't have been as popular as it would have

First, considering what you wrote in the describtion, you should rather rename your video title to "Do Anime age badly ?"
About the question you ask: I would say Yes and No.
Most shows age and not simply because of their own content but also outside factors such as trends, viewing habits and cultural changes play a part here aswell. This is just how time works and cannot be altered. The argument is less about aging badly and more about how the viewer views an older show in a modern lense.
    About the examples you used:
Personally I still like S1 of Devil is a Part timer when I rewatched it. The main issue with the sequels are the worse production values, pacing and directing. The content of the sequels themselves are not bad and contain elements that I appreciate about S1 (such as the inner conflicts of the characters) but they are just prestented in a worse way here... While I don't think the sequels would have been as popular as S1 if they were done better, they would at least have satisfied the old fans and probably attracted some new fans.
Oregairu is a prime example of a show aimed at teenagers and only at them. Unlike a well made children show (Spongebob S1-movie) that you can appreciate for its unpretentious fun and well meaning messages, teenage shows extract most of their appeal from sensationalism (s#x and violence), relatability and (power) fantasy and unlike a actual adult show that might contain those elements as well, its portrayal and handling tends to be more superficial and lacking in nuance and subtlety that make you roll with your eyes once you are not in that age anymore.
Somewhere here you can even bring the argument that because most anime are aimed at teenagers and most teenage shows age like milk, that this can be a prime reasons as of why a lot of people think anime age badly.
Lucky Star is a prime example of why people say "don't include references to pop culture, politics, etc. into a show, it just ages them badly." This has less to do with anime in specific.
There are also dozens of personal factors playing as of why you like a specific show back then but not anymore: Watching it with someone else back then, being at a different mental state back then, perfectly fitting with a specific interest you had back then, etc.) and once those factors don't apply anymore, your view of those shows might change.
    As some final words:
I don't think there is a need to be anxious or nervous about rewatching old favourites. It is normal that tastes changes, there will be shows that you don't like as much anymore but there will also be shows that you like now that you probalby not have liked back then.

Im really agree with the unsubtle nuance there. It hit close with what I'm experiencing. Back then I enjoyed the anime I watch without thinking critically, but growing old I try to seek something more meaningful (still like cool action tho), and looking back, the anime I watch before isnt nearly as enjoyable as I watch it the first time when I was younger. It is too on the nose, the show is the same but feels different. I am the one that changes.

Oregairu is actually a realy well made show and its not pretentious in the slightest. I recently rewatched it and its very a solid cast of characters with good interactions.

This phenomenon is present in other forms of media. The most notorious example is Seinfeld. It was a revelutionary sitcom at the time but if you watch it now for the first time after watching newer sitcoms like The Office and Modern Family, you might find Seinfeld unfunny and generic and not understand why it got the acclaim it had back in the day.

I think the problem isn't the anime, but you. Sure, there are a lot of anime I gave an 8-9/10 ten or twenty years ago and don't remember them, but I'm sure I'd still enjoy them nowadays. Every now and then I rewatch an anime or tv series and have yet to experience the feeling you described. If something is really good, it's good regardless of the era. Code Geass, Slayers, Aoki Densetsu Shoot!, the Lodoss universe, Stargate: SG-1, Battlestar: Galactica are just few examples of the series I've rewatched in the last decade and weren't disappointed. House M.D., The Expanse, Code Geass (again!), Lodoss (again!) are on my next rewatch list and I know I will have a blast.

I only watched the first season for Devil is a Part-Timer shortly before the second season started, but I still found a gap in interest to be honest. The first season wasn't a masterpiece, but I didn't find it... over-working my enthusiasm? The second season throws so many more details at you, I found it kind of hard to care because it all felt so played out.
You could argue that it has less to do with the time-gap and more to do with running out of gas on the initial premise. Shield Hero Season 1 held my attention quite well, Season 2 was a rushed slog, Season 3 is somewhat better, but not as good as season 1. Most of the issues Naofumi had to deal with are sorted by the end of Season 1 and apparently the quality of the LN doesn't pick up again until volume 10, which I don't believe even season 3 will cover. So, they started cutting things out to expedite the pace, but apparently the butterfly effect is coming around so now it'll affect what would've been good. While season 1 apparently suffered because the difference in mediums (As written works often do) season 2 and 3 suffer more as a result of the story itself, despite a not insignificant time-gap.
Mushoku Tensei's source material started late 2012, but the anime can feel like breath of fresh air despite its familiar setting because it focuses on character, which tends to age dramatically better than what is meta.

Regarding The Devil is a Part-Timer, I feel like if the sequel came out 2-3 years after S1, the anime would've still been quite popular. I was there at the time, and I know how much people wanted it. The jokes are still there in S2, but they're not enough to make it regain its popularity. It's an all-right anime by today's standards, just nothing that stands out.
Even if S1 came out today as a brand-new anime, I don't think people would really bother with it. Basically, I think it has more to do with the time period when it came out rather than the time gap or running out of gas.
Shield Hero is an interesting example because, as you said, I think it suffers immensely from its premise. It starts with a twist: everybody hates Naofumi, he's weak, and he goes on a hate-revenge quest...but we all knew he wouldn't stick with it. People would eventually change their opinion of him, accept him, and so on. Which happens by the end of S1 (I only watched S1, so my knowledge is limited). The characters aren't particularly interesting, and the premise only holds up so much. But...what comes after? It becomes just a regular Isekai story.
I can't comment on Mushoku Tensei because I only watched a few episodes xD.

It's one of the anime I recently rewatched. I used to love it back then but now it's kind of a weird show for the most part. The ending is still fantastic, but it has a lot of random episodes that were such a bore to sit through.

So I recently got my gf into more anime because she really only knew the big shonen. Basically the more slice of life/comedy/romance genre. I had the fear too of rewatching these and them not aging well. But she is an eng dub watcher only and we ended up really enjoying shows like masumes revenge and yamada-kun and the 7 witches.
For shows like those specifically I think I find they don’t age well when watching the Japanese dub because of the language barrier. But with the eng dub which even I had never seen up till now, brought new life into some of these shows (the more harem-like shows are still unwatchable imo) because you can tell how much the eng dub cast change dialogue to make it more relatable and actually funny to an English audience. Though my enjoyment could also be due to just having someone to share all these old shows with

That's why i don't re-watch the anime I've already seen😂 But idk, I really try to enjoy every show that I watch, even if I forget it all after. And yeah, ofc now not every show is great or even good, and I always carefully choose what I wanna watch, but even so, I still enjoy anime to the fullest, both good and bad😅

I don't think jokes of Devil was a part timer s1 is outdated. That is because I watched s1 literally last year after s2 came. And I found it very funny. Then again I didn't liek s2 as much which I watched immediately after.

Animes don't get worse with age they get worse with bad sequel seasons. Easy example, season 1 of Devil is a part timer was great, still great even now. Go to season 2 and it turns into absolute trash and ruins the show. It almost feels like someone completely different wrote it.
