  • There's a lot to like about the Sony ZV1 vlogging camera, but there are three things about this camera that really bug me.Two of them are quite well known, but there is one that no one ever mentions. Had I have known, this is how the camera performs under certain conditions, I would NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT.

That screen brightness issue when connected to Wifi is an awful shame, seems like the camera either hasn't got the power budget from the battery to run the Wifi communication at the same time as the regular brightness on the screen, or Sony realised that battery life would just be awful when used like that. If it's the latter, I think that Sony should have allowed the screen to be set back to regular brightness, perhaps with a warning that battery life is affected by the wifi communication. I'd say they thought nobody would care as they'd be using the wifi mode to control the camera and viewfind with their mobile phones instead.
I'd say the two-second limit when recording super-slowmo is a limitation of onboard cache on the camera. At least you found a servicable workaround for that. Interesting video, thanks for sharing!

Hi Graham, thanks for your comment its much appreciated, yes the screen dimming is a power issue, if the instructions didn't say brightness was LOCKED at minus 2, I would have tried powering from the gimbal, even that requires a special flat lead with L shaped plugs. I'll just have to master the art of guesswork filming. Cheers W.F.

use the camera without connecting it to the gimbal, press the buttons on the camera instead of the gimbal. a gimbal doesnt need to connect to the camera to work.
