I just scarified and Scalped my yards this weekend.. I did my front on Saturday... took me 6 Hours! and Beat the crap outta me! lol ... then I did my back yard Sunday... that also took me 6 hours... and total of 18 of those Large Brown Bags Full of Thatch! Glad i only need to do 1 time a year! but so much better after it is done! no more spongy yard.. and better overall for receiving nutrients and water... Thank you for all of your insight!
I'm just a bit north of Dallas and just starting to see the green haze. I'll be scalping my bermuda within the next were or two. Yours is looking good!!
Yeah im here in Carrollton and did my first ever dethach and not a true scalp but cut it down to the second lowest setting on my ryobi mower and hit it with a generic weed spray. Super new to lawn care and I have 1/2 acre 😅
I live in a cool season zone with a lawn of 100% KBG. I typically dislike warm season grass, but wow Bermuda looks amazing! It resembles KBG in a lot of ways. If I ever move down south, I'm having Bermuda 🙂
My yard just started to green up over here in San Marcos and I just scalped my yard about 2 weeks ago. Boy do I want a reel mower! My Honda only goes down to 1 inch. Nice yard bro, let us know what you’ll be doing next!
I scalped and scarify last week on the windiest day. 20mph winds there was no way i could make a pile. I even had to make a special bagger from a dry cleaning bag to catch ny clippings. Waco Texas
Just scalped last weekend big Rhett. 26 bags of grass from the front yard alone. Idk about you, as it looks smooth, but man mine was a workout. Forearms on fire trying to hold her steady as she ripped through the bermuda LOL. Looks great buddy.
I let my Bermuda get up to 2" last summer and took it back down to .75" with my Honda HRX 3 weeks ago. I bagged 1500 lbs. of grass. Most I`ve ever bagged before, but it looks great with quite of green up already. Already have 4" runners on my sidewalk and no fertilizer since last September. Texas weather is so unpredictable.
Definitely feel ya on the trees. I would see if you could remove the Elm tree and at least do an ornamental tree. My yard is smaller than yours and the builder planted an Oak right over my utilities and 3 feet from my driveway. Cutting it down next week finally. Hasnt messed the grass up, but i did have to cut a large surface root already.
Would you recommend "scalping" new sod that was laid in December? The grass has taken root and starting to green, but can still see pieces of individual sod. Up in north Texas with a new construction home with bermudagrass. Thank you for all your help man.
Wanted to scalp today, but my frankenfiskars isn't quite finished, so close, sproket for motor ended up being too small so waiting on the next size up! Once I get that going, if it works good, then I'll be cutting the metal to get it down as low as it will go for scalp!
@@LawnInsider yeah don’t like dealing with gas and oil and don’t want to spend like 3k plus for electric so going for ghetto version 😂. I’ll let ya know if it works good.
@@LawnInsider I will say that I accidentally put down pre emergent and I need to seed some areas. Spent hundreds of dollars in black jack seed and I’ve heard that pre emergent will cause seeds to not take root. BUT I’ve never seen someone tested this theory. So I’m either gonna waste the seed and money and try again next year or something may happen in a month or so lol 😂.
I sprayed my yard with some liquid weed killer this past Saturday thinking about scalping next week then setting my pre emerg what are your thoughts about that time line thank you
My liberty 43 would break in half. In fact it did trying to go 1/8 inch down. That’s what I get for buying the Tesla of lawn mowers. Now I half a 1/2 scalped yard again
Does your neighbor have the same bermuda cultivar like yours? 7:42 I am asking because mine looks like your neighbours, BUT is a bit shorter. I certainly dont have the thickness you have and see dirt almost everywhere :(
Verticut Bermuda - don’t use the dethatcher attachment (with the tiny little tines) you’ll wreck the Bermuda grass by pulling up all the runners. I’ve made this mistake before.
Newbie yard owner here. My grass was overtaken by lots of crabgrass/other weeds last summer. Should I scalp before of after using pre-emergent? Can I do them on the same day? Thank you! :)
At this point in the year, I would go ahead and scalp now, pre-emergent after. Then in a couple of weeks, you could treat your existing weeds with a post-emergent.
I'm just in SMTX and was going to wait until the end of March to scalp my Tifway 419...but I guess I'll have to scalp sooner than later. Plan on waiting until end of March/early April for first application of fertilizer...with some RGS.

That's the biggest thing I didn't even cover in the video. Get's rid of that spongey layer. Much truer mow.
Great videos sir, just scalped and de thatched my yard in Converse Tx ( 4/27 ) hopefully not too late. I’m wanting to get my yard looking nice.
It's that time y'all. Just did my 2nd cut yesterday. Scalped and got the pre emergent out on the first cut. Let's gooooo

Same here. I'm in the Prosper/Aubrey area.

Awesome! I actually grew up in Carrollton and went to Pilot Point for a year too!
@@fourpressmedia2674me too Aubrey. I still have dormant grass mainly. A lot of work to be done, thought i follow someone who knows what to do.

Lol. Bermuda is a plague.
Well maintained, low cut bermuda definitely makes for a beautiful lawn! It doesn't look nearly as good when it gets tall though.
Hopefully that good luck is with our Astros this year. Once again, great job!
Let's hope so! Go 'stros!
Glad to see someone in DFW region with some sense on which team to follow! 😂 jk go Stros! One question: what will you do with the clippings?

nice smooth, athletic lawn
That is gonna look damn good in another week or two when that color returns
I used to be in ur history class freshman year good to see you’re doing great coach
Im greening up here in Crowley Texas brother. Thanks for another video

I did mine a week ago. Had a mask over my nose for the dry clippings.
Yeah the wind has been howling lately!
TY Family here u guys are great. ty Similar processes could be used here .

Sounds about right. Takes more time to bag than to cut on those days! Hope you're doing good Caleb!

That sounds like a lot of grass lol goodness gracious! It's crazy how much material we can pull from our lawns even when they're relatively short.

I've had that exact thought about replacing them with some sort of ornamental tree. That Elm has grown up in a hurry.

Looking good...Do you think you saved time by using the rotary to bag?
Definitely. So much more efficient it isn't even funny.

💪. Good work!
I just hope we get more rain here in the Kyle area or the scalping and hard work is going to be for nothing with the lake levels being low already
Have you turned o n your sprinklers yet?
Will it damage my yard if I don't bag the clippings?

Aww that's to hear! Those Allett systems look awesome in videos.
First Aussie 😁. The Lawn Therapy begins 😎
What fertilizer are you going to put down?
I think I'm going to crack open my bag of GreenTRX I've been sitting on for a year now! See what it's all about.
Hey man! Are you in Central TX???
Does your neighbor have the same bermuda cultivar like yours? 7:42 I am asking because mine looks like your neighbours, BUT is a bit shorter. I certainly dont have the thickness you have and see dirt almost everywhere :(
The care and maintenance makes a huge difference
All the homes around me have the exact same cultivar of bermuda.
are you using a growth regulator?
Not at this point in the year, but I will.
I'm up in Lubbock and we are about 2-3 weeks behind you. I just dethatched and scalped today. Just curious if you verticut or dethatch?
Verticut Bermuda - don’t use the dethatcher attachment (with the tiny little tines) you’ll wreck the Bermuda grass by pulling up all the runners. I’ve made this mistake before.
@robertlevy4613 yeah, I verticut with the blades. It helps to pull up the old deaf stuff.
@@barakharlan is the sun and joe scarifying the same thing? I hope so I did today the front only
@1louddime Yes, that is what I used. I mowed as low as my rotary will go and once I get more greenup I'll scalp with my reel.
With bermuda, verticutting is recommended. Only unfortunate part there is that verticutters are not easy to come by.

Yes sir, no time like the present!
It looked like you scalped both directions. Is that important to do?
I love scalping till im about 3/4 through....then im like UGH F this lol!!
It went surprisingly and suspiciously smooth this season haha
I would replace that elm tree with an ornamental tree because that tree is going to get huge, and potentially, the roots will cause problems.
are you mr technical difficult
