I love how much they respect him and, in turn, how much he respects them. The Doctor dislikes the military but he knows he can always rely on UNIT to help him out. Ever since the 3rd Doctor.
2nd, but 3rd worked with them the most, so did 4th!
@@julieeverett7442 I didn't like that he was still with them during the first bit of his 4th incarnation because by that point, The Doctor could've taken Sarah Jane Smith and left UNIT. The only reason the 3rd Doctor worked for UNIT was because at the time, that was the only thing he *could* do.

I actually think it was adorable when Malcom asked that. Like he's genuinely worried that he just made a mistake and the Doctor is going to be displeased with him. It also shows that he's not arrogant and doesn't think he's always right. Not to mention it shows that he values the Doctor's opinion and guidance, recognizes his genius, and is most likely someone who would undoubtedly listen to the Doctor in a stressful situation without question.
Really, I wish Malcom had become one of Ten's companions. I feel like they would have gotten along well like fishsticks and custard (which is VERY well in the Doctor Who universe.)
My science teacher in year 8 told me that knowing you dont know everything is the first signs of a genius 🙂

I like how savvy UNIT is when it comes to The Doctor. All he has to say is "hey, it's me" and they immediately get him through to whoever he's looking for.

Imagine being stranded on a bus, in the middle of nowhere on an alien planet, no chance of anyone coming to help and one man phones back to Earth. You then hear the utter awe and respect they give this stranger and how they talk about him. Imagine how high the moral would soar and how much better you’d feel.
It’s like if you saw Spider-Man or batman run past your window or superman saves you from certain death. These are the moments I wish the doctor was real.
The Doctor is the definition of a superhero in my books, more than any marvel or dc character combined

It usually works because the tone recognition cannot handle a constant tone forcing it to just patch it through to the first operator in line. Though accounting for that is not hard either. Most federal systems for some reason... sorry that made me laugh... don't bother setting up anything to handle constant tones or cases of error so your call either drops or you end up in someones office that has no idea what's going on.
@@Powertampa ~ Maybe it's different where I am, but "0" is usually just a default tone to skip menus and speak directly to a live person. It's usually even included IN the menus, if you listen the whole way through.
@@SSC0002 It works on most, but some have caught wind and have contingencies for it. Like repeating the message, taking you to the main menu or dropping the call.

"What was your favorite - giant robot?" For those that don't know, he's referencing the very, very first adventure of the 4th Doctor.
Professor Kettlewell of the Scientific Reform Society built the robot. He started out just big. The Brigadier made him giant by shooting him with the top secret disintegrator gun!

Funny how his name in this episode is Malcolm because whenever he is doing his stand up gigs he does a running gag where he would talk about an unknown character called Malcolm :D

Sorry for the late reply. As far as i know, torchwood's production code had the word geronimo in it. Or something like that. That's why the torchwood team always eats pizza from "pizza geronimo"

I love Malcolm's reaction- it's so like that of any a fan would have. Also, the other people on the bus at that moment must have begun to realize how big a deal the Doctor is, and are probably some of the few that he meets that do realize it.
I wish they had shown more of the bus passengers' reaction like, wait, why is UNIT saluting this guy???
Imagine, Being on that bus, and you hear that over the phone. Someone call's for help, and the response is just Awe...Pure and utter awe. How high does the morale on the bus soar after hearing that you have someone who inspires that much awe from an organisation called the Unified Intelligence Task-force.
This is of course in the mindset that you have no idea who The Doctor is, If any of us Whovian's were there of course we'd all be in awe anyway, but we'd also probably be a little afraid, as we know, As unless you're the companion, there's a good chance you'll die during solving the problem. The problem with being near The Oncoming Storm, is there's usually quite a lot of collateral.

cak01vej if 10 lived for 1000 years he might not regenerate into Matt Smith because events in the Doctor's life can control who he regenerates into, like when Smith saved Caecilius in the fires of Pompeii and took Capaldi's form as a reminder.
He didn't want to go.
Chalky actually Tennant saved the Roman family in Pompeii, Smith then regenerated into Capaldi to remind himself of the Doctors promise.
the doctor is the exception, most time lords have about 1000 years per regenenration, and thats who canon, its just this idiot (genius, protector etc) gets himself into trouble on a semi regular basis and burns through his regenerations faster than most, especially when he uses it to heal others!
If I was one of those people there I would totally shocked at the presence he has, the fact he got through to people that high up in an organisation. And the fact that he's getting salutes too. I always wonder why they weren't but hey, they'd seen a lot already.
Given how scatterbrained the Doctor can be sometimes, I'm surprised he didn't question the fact that Unit replaced him.
But they didn't as Kate tells The Doctor that he is still Chief Scientific Advisor for UNIT.
Think of UNIT's scientific advisory department like a video game programming department or whatever. Just as there is only *one* Lead Programmer, there will always be just *one* Chief Scientific Advisor at UNIT. Malcolm's just *a* Scientific Advisor not the *Chief* Scientific Advisor.
In times of dire emergency, the Doctor is also World President.
My headcanon is - he's not scatterbrained.
It's an act he puts on to disarm his opponents.

One of the delights for an American just learning her way around Dr. Who is that almost all of the actors are new food. I had no idea of Lee Evans before this. I love seeing them pop up in other things I find, like Alonzo showing up in "The Hounds of Baskerville" as the poor fellow tortured by memories of his father's death. British TV has such great things to watch. And now David Tennant is here giving us Gracepoint. Ah, life is good.

Honestly love the interaction between Malcolm and the docter. The docter being impressed is such a powerful thing. So hoping they bring a little bit more of that in to the new series in 2020. God i miss David Tennant. High hopes for Good Omens, seems to be bringing the docter into the new role.

The doctor doesn't just bring people along out of kindness,
More often times it's to keep him in check and Malcolm simply wouldn't do that.
He'd shut up the instant the doctor told him to.
I like how they're so cool with The Doctor being "famous" in UNIT. They can all hear, it's on speaker. But considering what they've seen its probably not that big of a deal.
Great part. You gotta wonder what all those people were thinking when they heard that conversation especially the parts about UNIT all wanting to meet him one day but knowing it would bring chaos.

The Doctor was glad that he had UNIT to help him when he and the bus passengers went through the wormhole. They helped him a lot of times,even while he was marooned on Earth by the Time Lords long ago.
My favourite bit from this episode is when after Christina takes the bus that police officer says to the Doctor "And I'm arresting you for aiding and abetting." The Doctor says "Yes I'll just step into this police box and arrest myself."
"Hello, Pizza Geronimo" - and the next doctors catchphrase just so happens to be "GERONIMOOO-OHHH!!"
I love Captain Magambo. She's stern and badass but gets all flustered when the other soldier tells her the Doctor is on the phone. It's so cute.

I hope that enthusiastic scientist got to work with Osgood. They would have gotten along very well. Especially if he managed to recognize the articles of clothing she got from her grandfather. there were probably a lot of people who did not make the connection until the Doctor met the Curator (hey, everyone has to retire eventually).
If Malcolm and Osgood had children, they'd be super geniuses!
Even though he no longer works with UNIT, anyone else remember the days he used to collaborate with the Brigadier? :') That's the first thing that I thought of when I saw the title of the video. RIP Nicholas Courtney.
He just worked with UNIT and the Brigadier's daughter in the 50th.
And he's still listed as their Chief Scientific Advisor as Kate even said so.
UNIT still has the Time-Space Telegraph Tom Baker's Doctor gave the Brigadier.

I love that the bus damage wasn’t intentional, it happened while shipping the bus to the desert, but they just rolled with it and “oh the bus got damaged in the wormhole”.

This was a good episode and this was one of my favorite parts :D
The easiest option would be to put it on the back of remote vehicle and send it through that way. Sure, the vehicle would be knackered at the other end but the Tardis would be fine.
As for the Doc not trusting Unit with the Tardis, he was perfectly happy to leave it in their base of operations for the best part of 4 years in the 70's. And if they really wanted to get their hands on it, they've had plenty of other opportunities in the past.
God I love Malcolm...

A few people have mentioned the key thing. I don't mean travelling in the Tardis - I mean physically 'pushing' the Tardis through the wormhole. We know it's not that heavy, a bunch of airline passengers were able to carry in in Timeflight and some Pompeians shifted it into Lucius Caecilius' living room. All Unit had to do was push the Tardis through the wormhole with a bit of momentum (and not much actual force would be needed, the bus driver made it through easily enough, albeit toasted!).
Amy: Where should we get takeout from Doctor?
