7.7# is heavy for a carryon. With carryon weight restrictions of 8kg (17.6#) on many international carriers (for some that total includes personal item!), you wouldn't be able to put much in it before maxing out the weight limit 😢
@@lindakrugman6534 That is smart to know your airline's carry-on requirements. Usually partner airlines are the ones restricting them. We do not have that issue here.
@@lindakrugman6534basically I think of international carriers version of carry on is medium backpack! US carriers pretty lenient luckily. When traveling in Europe especially with budget airlines I just buy pkg for 1 ck bag!
Thanks for all the ideas, Laurie! I've been wanting one of those phone pouches. Here's a travel hack I use for dirty clothes. When we're packing to return home I fold all my dirty stuff neatly and place them in one of those vacuum bags that you just roll and squish the air out of. It makes them superflat, like a sheet, and I lay that in the bottom of my suitcase giving me more room since I probably bought WAY too many souveniers. 🤣 Since it's a plastic bag it also keeps it from stinking up the rest of your stuff.
I do the same thing with my dirty clothes. The plastic squeeze bags are so thin to pack in the beginning that I pack extra because whomever I am travelling with usually want a couple too. Lol
I use a large trash bag for my dirty clothes. I hang it up on a door knob at a hotel(for easy access.) But once I’m leaving, I close the bag, and push all the air out( this makes it compressed & easy to pack.) I love all your videos!!❤
LAUNDRY: I love, love my 2 sided packing cubes in 2 different sizes. One side is “clean” other side is “laundry”. I put dryer sheets on both sides. Keeps the luggage totally organized. Best ever if flying and going to multiple locations.

I have a Travelon bag similar to yours! I'm a huge fan of the brand. The bag is Very well made! Every zipper has a clasp zipper pull so you can latch them closed. There's a cable inside the carrying strap that makes it slash proof. Mine came with a teeny light inside it too. I fully support your recommendation 😊

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I just bought it as I seem to have trouble finding comfortable travel pillows. Looks like you could used it rolled up for your back on the plane, too.
They are Flight 001 Spacepak. Not as easy to find as they were years ago. Our daughter gave us each a large set of the packing cubes, toiletry bag, and zip pouches of various sizes. They’re very very high quality. With all the different sizes it’s easy to play the puzzle game to fit them into your suitcase.I use the zip pouches for undergarments and accessories. They come in bright primary colors or a more feminine lighter color with little flowers on it. Each pack has a picture code for what type clothes would fit in the pack. My husband is a tall man and he’s clothes fit really well in these packing cubes. We’ve had them for a while now and they look brand new.
That's a great idea, I have always had intense pain during flying (eustacian tube malformation) and the earplanes are too large for me and cause pain. I will try the child size ones next time I fly.
Eek, I ordered those pants on (Canadian) Amazon on Prime days, just got them today. Very nice BUT they have slash zipper pockets in front. Now wondering if it will set off alarm. Had to come back here to look at yours to see what pockets it had. Lower mine have the cargo pockets too, but the zipper on top pockets 😮
So I made the same mistake. There are different types when you are ordering. So sorry!! When I tried the medium, I had clicked on another type and the pockets zipped.
FIVE Level 8 carry one bags??? Girl, have you ever considered a 12-step program?!😅 Actually, I have more Away suitcases than that, so who am I to talk! Next time I pack for a trip, I'm going to try a side-by-side packing trial with the Away carry on and the Level 8 pink textured carry on (that's the only level 8 I have).
Thanks for the Earplanes info. I flew yesterday and had that stabbing pain in one ear. I don’t usually have this problem so I hope it’s not a new thing for me. 😮
Hi Laurie, I got the ear planes with the cute containers for Prime day. I love these so much better that FlyFit. They are much more comfortable and you really can position them more tightly. I will update how they hold up on flight. Me and my husband are empty nesters back to air travel again. I seen in another video you use saline nasal spray for dryness. Do you pack that with TSA liquids or medicine?
Great suggestions! I just brought Bluetooth adapter for the airplane so I can use my air pods to watch movies instead of the wired headphones. I have an old iPod that I still use I used my girl math to purchase it 😄I'm one of the few people that still use a cloth suitcase, but I'm going to check out that level 8 carryon. Thanks!

Thank you, Laurie, for all your travel hints; I've been watching you for a long time. I'm going to ask a question taking that doesn't have anything to do with this video. I'm taking a break from packing for my flight tomorrow and was wondering, what is the weight of your carryon suitcase before flying and coming home. I struggle every time I fly long distance. I can't take 3 shirts for 2 weeks, as I perspire a lot. Just wondering.
Whew for 2 weeks I would probably check a bag. I have never weighed it before. Are there any shoes you can donate when you are there to save space on the return trip?
Hi Laurie. I very much appreciate your videos. You have mentioned that you wear hearing aids and also that you use Air Pods. I also wear hearing aids but have been using over-the-ear headphones. Do you remove your aids before putting in the Air Pods? If so, then you would not have the benefit of the HA. Could you please elaborate?
What size are the khaki cargo pants you bought? I’m also 5’8 and usually wear a size 10 but my stomach is not as flat these days so I wonder if I should go a size up.
Are the level 8 luggage wheels embedded (couldn't tell for sure by video)? Are they buckle with universal lock available or is it a easily temper-tempting zipper?🤔
Hi, you can click on their link in the first comment to read more. I have never used locks, but their wheels and handles and all other features are top notch!
@tcconnection I purchased L8 carryons for our trip to Italy we took in March & rolled them over some big uneven cobblestones in an old town we visited & they held up, I was amazed at the durability of the wheels.
I find with pillows, know what you need! If like me, hotel pillows are "too fluffy" finding a semi flat pillow is hard. Did find one I could remove or add filling.
@@adamleer1 It's really hard to explain. It's is probably half the depth of my pillow but it's firm yet it can be rolled up and still be the same shape when you unroll it.
@@TravelTipsbyLauriejust took a look and I have that one! Unfortunately can't use as too firm for me. But nice pillow! Sidney Sleep is one you can take foam out or put more in for those who need a more flat pillow. Still experimenting with it! But I am not your average pillow person and the other one is nice for 99% of people!
So I suggest these because they are exactly like mine and same company but in the XL size. And you get 6 in a set. My husband now loves compression cubes. @@jonscobey677 Just know that you will make mistakes, but get there early so you are not stressed. My tip is 2 hours before boarding time...and now most airlines board 30-45 mins before the flight time.
Love your tips and ideas! Please, I'm still waiting for more information on air travel with hearing aids...what to expect, are the battery ones a problem through security and other concerns a 1st time traveler might need to know. I would also like to know if in my case I'm considered a special needs due to being totally deaf in one ear and must wear the hearing aid at all times to hear. Thank you...I feel this subject might be of concern to many.
Hi! When you buy your ticket you can tick the hard of hearing part but you can also just tell the flight attendant. Have you seen this video: bit.ly/TravelTipsHearingAid
I love Earplanes but, I could not determine when the plane was at the altitude to remove them or when a flight was 1 hour from landing so as to put them in. I was also uncomfortable with the thought of missing an important announcement. So, I got an AirFly (because announcements go through the entertainment system), paired it with my headphones and now, I dont get ear pain and I dont miss anything. 🙂
Hi, I guess. It's never happened to me. But we pack in carry-on only. When our bags do get checked last minute, they've never had a pen jabbed in them and opened.
I have been searching for a hard case medium sized suitcase that is NOT the conventional oyster form. Impossible to find in Europe. Just a lid, like the soft sided ones - very practical where space is limited. But for years and years, there have been no changes in the shapes. The closest is Coleman brand, purchased in Japan. In other words, all the luggage is the same. I am waiting for a revolution in luggage shape.
I prefer soft-sided luggage, usually Travelpro. But *if* I were searching for a hard-shell suitcase, I would purchase a 20” mixi spinner! Another TH-camr reviewed it recently and I was impressed mostly because it is NOT a clamshell configuration. Other pros: in 3 colors that aren’t black (I absolutely NEVER buy black luggage!), built-in charging interface, built-in cup/umbrella holder flips up on the rear, and flip-up hooks on the handle to display your phone or hang lightweight items. Biggest negative is the weight (8.7 pounds) which is why I avoid hard-shell suitcases. Prime Day Deal is 20% off. ETA: Available in 20”, 24”, and 26”
I know Laurie is not fond of Monos but their carryon (now can even expand) compression bar holds more than suitcase I have owned (I might have a lot in 20 years of travel!) Zipper on each side work too but more pressure on zipper. My carry on has no expansion and I have packed 14 days travel. I don't do laundry on vacation and I like different outfits! But it was summer and clothes easier!
Hi, oh that one. The third item is for the tray table: www.amazon.com/shop/traveltipsbylaurie/list/304OD4Z7FHGDE?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsftraveltipsbylaurie_Q5R9ZEGMS6E2SGQZK5NQ
That tour bag (larger handbag)? I pack stuff IN mine for the flight and use it for day trips at the destination. When flying, I use a smaller anti-theft Travelon crossbody bag for the essentials (phone, small wallet, charging cord, comb, lip balm, etc.) and sometimes, no one seems interested in making me stuff it in my "personal item" before boarding. (No guarantee of this, though).
Waiting for level 8 to offer a top opening suitcase. I wonder if they will be coming out with one as they seem to be selling off their current inventory.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie yes, who knows. But there seems to be a buzz about how much easier top loading suitcases are to pack, so it seems they will eventually have to offer them to stay competitive. I like the point I saw you make about how superior a wide handle is, as well, in terms of interior soace, so I'm hoping they will offer a wide handled, top loading carry-on before I'm ready to go! But, who knows.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurieOk. Thanks for mentioning that. I figured I could just hook a daypack on with carabineers or something similar. I've never traveled with suitcases. I'm a former backpacker who can no longer carry almost any weight on my back due to a chronic injury condition, so upcoming will be my first attempt with a suitcase, hopefully a very long term travel situation, so really trying to make the best choice
Be careful with that case for the earplugs. If it is like the Loops case, it can snap very easily. The CURVD Premium Carrying Case might be a more durable option, if it fits.
Help! I cannot find the pants on this video on Amazon!! Even Laurie’s storefront. Please mark the items you tell us about, they are so hard to find on Amazon. Thank you……I love your tips!
I’m looking for a carryon that is not black on the inside. I have so much trouble with my vision finding my dark clothes in my black interiors. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Dirty clothes. I use clear EZPacking cubes and pack an empty large as flat in suitcase and gradually add Dirty clothes to it. As other cubes get empty they become dirty clothes cubes too
Just go to any store that sell things like that and look at the box. it should say on it 110-240 for voltage , then your good to go. If not buy one here when you come to Europe , most brands here have products that are dual voltage , you just need to look at the box again or ask the store staff.
Be aware of the limitation of Bluetooth-only noise cancelling headphones when purchased for flights. If you are listening to your own devices via Bluetooth or not listening to anything at all, you are fine. However to access the audio of the aircraft’s IFE (seat back entertainment system), you need a WIRED connection or must buy a Bluetooth transmitter ($30 - $50). I buy over-the-ear, noise-cancelling headphones for maximum “muffling” that operate in both Bluetooth and wired modes. Also before purchasing, verify that the noise-cancelling circuitry is active in both modes. I almost made the mistake of purchasing a highly-rated set of $100+ noise-cancelling headphones that did not have active noise cancellation when used with the wired connection.😮
You are tall and thin with narrow hips, so I imagine it's easy for you to order clothes online and have them fit. Btw, the striped ones say currently unavailable. Sometimes different products do.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie haven’t tried them on yet. My friend has one and it works wonderfully. We were in a plane with 50 plus French students from elementary to high school. She put her Bose headphones on and went to sleep. I had to meditate in order for me not to be on the news.

Yay, I just purchased the companion to my Level 8 carry on luggage. It’s the 24” checked bag. I love Level 8 and Amazon Prime Days!
What size are the khaki cargo pants you bought? I’m also 5’8 and usually wear a size 10 but my stomach is not as flat these days so I wonder if I should go a size up.
Hi, I have the large and it has plenty of room. I think the medium I bought by mistake with zippered pockets and it was too tight.
@@lynn9018 I tell you, their wheels really are the best. So rugged for durability while traveling.
Hi Ms Laurie,
Where did u get the raincoat and pants
Hi, they are Amazon: amzn.to/49l7zZB and which pants?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I found them on the list you provided thank you…
Will check put raincoat and if lined it doesn't make you as hot!
I find with pillows, know what you need! If like me, hotel pillows are "too fluffy" finding a semi flat pillow is hard. Did find one I could remove or add filling.
I could not believe how good this one was. He only travels with it when he has a few things in his carry-on.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie question - most folks like pillows with some depth. Does this lay almost flat?
@@adamleer1 It's really hard to explain. It's is probably half the depth of my pillow but it's firm yet it can be rolled up and still be the same shape when you unroll it.
@@TravelTipsbyLauriejust took a look and I have that one! Unfortunately can't use as too firm for me. But nice pillow! Sidney Sleep is one you can take foam out or put more in for those who need a more flat pillow. Still experimenting with it! But I am not your average pillow person and the other one is nice for 99% of people!
I enjoy your channel but need advice for Prime Day compression cubes. I’m a big guy headed on a long trip
So I suggest these because they are exactly like mine and same company but in the XL size. And you get 6 in a set. My husband now loves compression cubes. I bought these 5 years ago with others, and the quality is amazing. They're travel youtubers too so it had to be: amzn.to/4d6coHS and these are the regular ones: amzn.to/4bLXzcf
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Thanks. Don’t be surprised if I don’t send more questions. I’ve never traveled abroad and will be taking a 17 day, 50th anniversary cruise in September
@@jonscobey677 Just know that you will make mistakes, but get there early so you are not stressed. My tip is 2 hours before boarding time...and now most airlines board 30-45 mins before the flight time.
@tipsbylaurie what traveling or packing tips can you give me traveling with a child with ASD
Laurie can you were the cargo pants with snaps thru TSA?
Hi, here they are: amzn.to/468bF6J
Great tips as always
Thanks for watching!
I wear hearing aids. Did you tell me that you wear them too? If so, is there do you need to put your hearing aids on a special setting for flight?
Hi I do not. If you can filter noise that will be helpful. I usually take mine off because my AirPods are loud enough and cut the engine sound
Great info thanks! With the luggage … can’t someone just stick a pen in the zipper & open it?
Hi, I guess. It's never happened to me. But we pack in carry-on only. When our bags do get checked last minute, they've never had a pen jabbed in them and opened.
I have been searching for a hard case medium sized suitcase that is NOT the conventional oyster form. Impossible to find in Europe. Just a lid, like the soft sided ones - very practical where space is limited. But for years and years, there have been no changes in the shapes. The closest is Coleman brand, purchased in Japan. In other words, all the luggage is the same. I am waiting for a revolution in luggage shape.
Someone needs to invent a luggage rack for the clam shell ones too.
@@adamleer1 Just to be clear, I only did not like the purple Monos suitcase I bought. I have heard excellent things about them from viewers.
Great video. The link for airpod pros doesn't work
Oh wow. They're apple.
Love your videos… is that the pouch that you attach to the back of the plane seat?
Oh that's a great idea.
Waiting for level 8 to offer a top opening suitcase. I wonder if they will be coming out with one as they seem to be selling off their current inventory.
I would not think they would be doing that, but who knows.
@@lacha608 I know they do offer a wide handle suitcase, but most trolley straps on totes or backpacks will not fit the wide ones. Good luck!
@@lacha608 Wow, way to go! Live life!
Be careful with that case for the earplugs. If it is like the Loops case, it can snap very easily. The CURVD Premium Carrying Case might be a more durable option, if it fits.
It does not unsnap easily though. Thx for your suggestion.
Help! I cannot find the pants on this video on Amazon!! Even Laurie’s storefront.
Please mark the items you tell us about, they are so hard to find on Amazon.
Thank you……I love your tips!
If you click on "more..." under the video, it will provide you all the links for what she's talking about.
Hi Diana, they should be in the first comment too: amzn.to/3xGXIj0
Thank you Laurie! I’ve ordered and all is well. I think my iPad was the problem…..could be user error.❤️
Hi… please share the name of the ‘favorite’. I can’t find the video ❤❤
Hi what favorite are you talking about?
Are CPAP machines considered a carry on
Hi they do not count as luggage! In Canada my mom had to take the motor out of hers for screening, but that was it.
Great Tips!
I’m looking for a carryon that is not black on the inside. I have so much trouble with my vision finding my dark clothes in my black interiors. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hi, these suitcases do not have black on the inside.
What kind of pillow is it?
Hi you can read all details in the links in first comment or description paragraph below the video.
Can I have the link for the hotel slippers please?
HI sure: amzn.to/3y4HEId
I swear by the Ear Planes. My last trip from Denver to Sioux Falls caused my ears to pop for 11 days after the trip. Extreme pain the whole time.
People who need them have loved them on my channel except the one comment today.
Dirty clothes. I use clear EZPacking cubes and pack an empty large as flat in suitcase and gradually add Dirty clothes to it. As other cubes get empty they become dirty clothes cubes too
Great ideas.
What is the name of the cargo pants? Thanks
The power bank for phone only works on iphone. That is an important detail to mention.
That company now makes the charger with a C-type connector that will work w/other brands & devices, & it’s available on Amazon as well.
Yes, always research before you buy phone stuff.
Can you list the name of the rain jacket?
Hi, if you click on the link it goes right there.
Hi, I am looking for a dual voltage hair dryer, preferably at least 1800, any info on where to buy one for Europe? I live here in US.
Just go to any store that sell things like that and look at the box. it should say on it 110-240 for voltage , then your good to go. If not buy one here when you come to Europe , most brands here have products that are dual voltage , you just need to look at the box again or ask the store staff.
I have not looked for one.
Love your tips, but some of your links do not work, and say, page cannot be found.
Oh my goodness, thanks so much! I wonder which ones.

Hi, here ya go: Lights: amzn.to/3Y0WwSo
So sorry; here they are: Lights: amzn.to/3Y0WwSo
SO that portable charger looks amazing, but it's only for iphone. :(
They have them with USB-C too.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m trying to find the case on Amazon that your husbands headphones were put in ? I can’t find them on your favorites thank you
Hi, sorry, but those are a case for a shop light from many years ago.
@@TravelTipsbyLauriethank you that’s funny 😄 once I receive the headphones I’ll find something to hold them
You are tall and thin with narrow hips, so I imagine it's easy for you to order clothes online and have them fit. Btw, the striped ones say currently unavailable. Sometimes different products do.
Oh no! Did you see that they come in 29" and 32"? You should see my return pile!
I will only purchase no zipper suitcases. It’s too easy to break into them (and cover up your tracks).
So you're saying that your pilot husband also has a pair of stripey pants he can wear with black, blue or gray?
Level 8 luggage. “I have five versions of their 20” carry-on luggage.” 😳
