As a single dad with 2 teen boys I struggled for years to cook stuff they would eat and admittedly we ate out a lot.. about a year ago I was told about you and these videos,. And I gotta say thank you sir, because of your awesome videos I'm finally able to cook good meals almost like my grandma use too... And my boys will actually eat my food now
I made it a point to learn how to cook and hone my cookery skills at an early age. I did not want to end up a middle-ager with diabetes type 2 and over weight. This once bachelor never depended on Mc slops or Burger King to feed me. Does a man well to learn to cook, also if he marries a woman that can't till she learns from her husband. I am The official biscuit and bread baker and gravy maker of the household. I leave the pasta dishes and some of the casseroles upto my wife. Hey Beagle here is a 🍩 for ya ol' boy. Get daddy to make some of the old fashion bear sign (donuts) like the cookies did in the old cattle drives.
Congratulations for being mom and dad to ur son's. U can also take cooking classes at ur local Community College with ur son's this could inspire all of u to cook together and create more amazing meals together.
Showed my mom this. And she made some for me while I was at work. She just left em In thr oven when she left. And even sitting 4 hours after cooking. These really are the best potatoes I've ever had. You outdid yourself this time cowboy Kent Rollins. This really is the best.
The main reason I love TH-cam is because it allows everyday people to essentially have their own cooking show. Much better and more informative than what's on the airwaves. This channel is great.
I had a conversation with a buddy of mine just a few days ago. We were talking about cooking shows and I had told him that I would rather get out an old recipe book and make it than to watch how fancy people can make a grilled cheese look. It doesn't matter to me if my plate looks pretty as long as the food is good. And that's the part that this fellow brings. Simple ways to cook great food
Congratulations on passing the 2 million mark. You and Shannon deserve it. If I were to add something to this dish it would probably be sweet corn and/or ground chorizo
I've been making your sparkling taters since 2014. I can't wait to try this one. If I were you, I'd top that off with a little Durkee French Fried onions all crumbled. I have to confess - I've been doing it that way at my house since 2015. Congrats on 2 million subscribers Kent and Shan. You're the best and love to all those woobits.
This looks so good!! My dad taught me to make a somewhat similar recipe. His was russet potatoes, onions and garlic. Add salt and pepper, half stick of butter and…coca cola. We cook them in a Dutch oven, or covered pie pan on the grill. It was a hit at any cookout! I think of him whenever I make them and believe he would’ve not only loved this dish, but also your channel! God Bless
I think the only thing that might improve this perfect recipe would be if I were invited for dinner the next time you cook it! Barring that idea, laying some short ribs on the bottom in that Mountain Dew and slow-cooking the whole thing might just be divine! Oh, the possibilities! Going now to dig out my daddy's cast iron! God bless you and yours and all your puppies, too!
We love the Sparkling Potatoes. One of my favorite things to add is green onion. Chopped and added on top of parmesan cheese. Thanks for all the great tips. My family has made some great camp dishes from watching you.
Tried it way back but my family loves it when I add pork chorizo and Serrano peppers to kick it up a notch. Love your videos a true inspiration. As a retired soldier I hope to make it one year to a Wagons for Warriors event. Keep the fire hot and blessings be upon you.
Serrano peppers have a better flavor than jalapeños in my opinion..excellent choice. the Mexican gentleman i use to work with always were eating them..
Love your show! Elephant garlic is named from its super size, usually they're around 2 inches in diameter or larger. The flavor is more intense garlic and sweeter then normal garlic. I use it because my chili recipe only calls for 3 cloves of garlic.
My husband and I just love y'all! We can't wait to try this, it looks delicious. I think the only thing that might make it better would be fresh sautéed mushrooms. 😋 Thank y'all & thanks to Ariat! ❤️
It might sound pretty far out of left field but i would try pineapple. The acid in that should complement the sweet and slightly citrus flavor from the mtn dew pretty well. I use pineapple when i cook other starches with mtn dew either just the juice or chunks if it fits. Thank you for all the recipes Mr. Kent and Miss Shannon, we appreciate you!
I would have to say after there done and ready for platin up, i would have fryed up a couple cackleberries and laid them over top. You can make it one of them breakfast, lunch, and suppertime meals that way 😁👍🏼 love the videos Kent and Shan. Keep em comin!
2M !!! Congrats Ken and Shan...... Definitely a one pot meal for me, then come morning, add the scrambled kackleberries , and finish up the leftovers.... Yum !!
Love all Kent’s recipes! I got a 12” Dutch oven and love using it just like this. I also love hearing Kent say “warsh” and “fahr” cause it reminds me of my WV grandmother!
This potato and bacon recipe looks amazing!😋 if your homemade seasoning doesn't have rosemary, then I would add rosemary and maybe a little cabbage! Yum
Hey Kent and Shannon. I've been thinking about this recipe and there are two ingredients that would make it different and possibly better. Smoked Sausage like John said, and New Mexican Hatch Green Chilies. I live in New Mexico and I cook with them all the time.
When I saw this in your cookbook I thought it looked great, the one thing I think I would add would be mushrooms. I love mushrooms in everything. They add a meaty flavor without all the extra fat. I'm still waiting on the third cookbook. I love y'all, God bless.
Congratulations on your 2 million mark!🎉🎊I’d definitely throw a pat or three of butter in when adding the onions and peppers, cuz butter makes everything better!! 😁
There are a lot of great ideas mentioned for sure. My single ingredient choice would just simply be some extra sharp cheddar. I do something very similar to this in winter on ol' potbelly.
I was giving it a long thought... something I would add without hesitating are carrots and tomatoes. Nothing fancy, but just working good with potatoes and bacon. If you ask me for being more creative, I would add pumpkin to make it even more satisfying. Again a great recipe I will try out soon. :)
This reminds me of German Potato Salad, I think you'd like that! I think I may add an over easy egg or two right on top. Love that runny yolk on some potatoes! Thank you, Kent and Shannon!
I was thinking the same thing, even though German potato salad is made differently. The ingredients sound like it would taste similar. Maybe not as sweet.
I can’t wait to try this recipe.... i’m going camping for the great memorial day week camp out....I think scallions would go great in there.... near the end of the cooking time.....
Huge CONGRATS on the double million mark!!!!!! Well deserved. Love this tater recipe. I’d be tempted to add me some brisket burnt ends, maybe some smoked sausage.
Congratulations Kent and Shannon on 2 million! I've made a similar Dutch Oven tater dish for years, minus the Mtn Dew. Sounds like a great addition! The one other ingredient I & my family like is Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage. If you don't care for Sage flavor JD Original is good too. Thanks for all you share with us.
Fun fact garlic, it is actually more closely related to a leek. In the same way that leeks are milder than onions, elephant garlic is milder, and with a slightly different flavor, than regular garlic - slightly garlicy, but without the sharp, pungent bite.
Hey Kent, I think breakfast sausage would boost the flavor a little. I am taking boys camping this weekend and this will be one of the dishes we will serve. Thanks for the many ideas to keep meals from being bland or boring.
Ham chunks and I love you just found you and thank you for your support to our men and woman that fought for us!!! You remind me so much of my father May he Rest In Peace!! God bless you always 🙏
We’ve so enjoyed your recipes and videos, and have learned so much about cast iron cooking.! Congratulations on the 2 Million milestone.! We are all about the meat in our dishes and thought we might want to try our sliced pork loin recipe with this dish. Will report back on just how it works out! Thanks Again for all you guys do.!
Would be good in the taters; Gochujang, a Korean Chili Paste. Now hear me out, this stuff is fantastic on just about everything. The flavors are amazing, got to watch my mother in law would make from scratch. You can find in Korean and most Asian markets. Blessings to you all.
Here is what I would add: 1. Make it breakfast! Add some eggs to scramble with the potatoes! 2. Make it a "garden mess" by adding string green beans. (I know, 2 suggestions. But I've made a version of these potatoes for years, and I've added these ingredients. Not together, but separately. The garden mess started when a friend brought over a bunch of veggies from his garden. So my dad throw them all together on the grill with a ton of butter and bacon. And in the morning, my dad added eggs to the mess to make it breakfast!)
Kent, lovin’ that Sparkling Tator recipe I do! Suggestion: Add 1/2 cup of your barbecue sauce and 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes. Thanks and God Bless!
This is very much like a family favorite we call "the grumble" I haven't used mountain dew in it YET but when I make it for breakfast I always add eggs. I remember once the grandkids were going out a little early until I said I'm making Grumble, they turned right around and started setting the table.
I'm so glad to see you restoring your wagon. Too many people don't do such to their equipment today. Everything is "disposable". Well, my hubs & I are old school, but we don't do that. When our old faithful work pick-up truck was hit in the rear-end when I was sitting @ a light the insurance company wanted to total it because a simple new bed replaces was worth more than the book value of the truck, what did we say??? NOPE! We bought her back on a salvage title fir $200 & built her a beautiful wood bed for less half the cost of a new bed!
Congrats on the 2 million Kent! You deserve it! I would love to try this with some roasted bell peppers and maybe try pickled jalapeños instead of the fresh jalapeños.
What an amazing but so simple 1 pot dish for sure! I can't wait to try my hand at it! I am not sure if I would add anything, but definitely will go great with eggs over easy and biscuits-n-gravy. Congratulations on the 2 million mark! 👍
I've made virtually the same potatoes for years. In the oven, I put them in heavy duty foil sealed up tight spread out so it lays flat on a baking sheet. 350F for about an hour. Also, I add a good amount of Kerrygold butter and use 1# of cooked Jimmy Dean Sage sausage instead of the bacon for something different.
@@CowboyKentRollins It really is Kent! Also, use larger slices of onion to add more texture and contrast. Baking in foil means cleanup is just throwing away the foil. Use less liquid as it stays in the foil packet. Outdoors you can put the foil directly on the coals or over the grill. Adjust cooking time accordingly. Interesting variation: Use Herbs de Provance instead of your cowboy seasoning and just use potatoes, onions, and Kerrygold butter (lots of butter). Sliced parsnips (planks) can be used instead of potatoes (or in addition to) for something different as well.
Thank you for the idea of Mt. Dew, I've made this with sprite/lemon lime. I've added Italian Sausage when I realized I didn't have bacon, and I've also added diced tomatoes.
We once added Sprite and Sparkling Cider as the main liquid for a london broil marinade. It was amazing! Totally recommend. This recipe reminded me of it. I'm excited to try it.
Our son has made several of your great recipes -- you're one of his heroes. If there's enough liquid, it seems like some dumplings or biscuits on top would be the "piece d'resistance" -- especially if they're made with Mtn Dew! Soda pop in dumplings produces light, fluffy, and moist little clouds of heaven to top off this 'heart of the earth' recipe!
Sautéed mushrooms is what I’d have to add to that one! The whole family loves your channel! Thanks for being so great at sticking to tradition, while adding that irreplaceable personality and modern twists!
Congratulations on hitting the 2 million subscribers! I think the recipe looks great as is, but a can of Ro-Tel would work great with that recipe! Looks delicious, I can't wait to try it.
Hey Kent, I'm a corn on the cob lover, so I think niblet corn just fresh cut from the cob would be a great additive. I've got to try this dish the very next time we go camping. Thanks for all your inspirations.
Well you got the spice of the peppers ,the smokeness of the bacon ,the earthy tasting taters, and the onions and the sweetness of the mountain dew. I think I would throw some good old Philadelphia cream cheese in there with it to make it like a creamy sweet potato 🥔 soup ..thanks for all the great recipes and videos Kent.
I've always loved pork loin stuffed with Jalapeno's and Peach preserves or Mango. So, I'm thinking that one of the two would add to the spice of the jalapeno as well as enhance the bacon flavor. Not too much of either and I would recommend adding it towards the end, if not at the end of the cooking process so that it does not dissolve.
I have been fortunate in finding Mr.Kent's site. I have tried many of his recipes and they have been a game changer. As a retired great grandmother I have Enjoyed the stories, the new foods and the entertainment. Thank you ever so much from southwest louisiana G
I'm definitely going to be trying these taters! They look so good! Whenever we make a similar dish, we have found that a good application of fresh oregano really ramps up the flavor! Much love to you and yours! Blessings from Ohio!
Thanks for this interesting recipe, I’ll have to give it a try. I’ve seen people mention other herbaceous options but no rosemary yet. I might try that it would complement potatoes the bacon the onions and the citrus
One of my favorite herbs and I grew 3 big ol' bushes of them outside the front door when I live in Burleson. They caught the whole afternoon sun too & all they asked for was some water. They grow like weeds in TX 🤠
My wife is a 32 year cancer survivor, very blessed, except that the total body radiation left her mouth sensitive to some things, jalapeño’s being one of those. So for my household I’d replace them with plablano’s. Good flavor and not as much heat. Also, I like Mountain Dew Kickstart Citrus flavor and I’d use it instead of the regular Mountain Dew. Can’t wait to make this version. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas and your faith in God and our wonderful country is faith affirming and again supporting of our beliefs as well. Love to both you and Shannon!
Great job, as always, Kent. I think adding orange bell pepper would be a nice addition. The color and flavor would be amazing. Awesome recipe though. I will be using this. Your doggies are amazing!
Congratulations on the 2M! Glad to be one of 'em! I'm a big fan of white vinegar on my potatoes. I think it might add a little counterpoint to the sweetness of the Mountain Dew. Just a sprinkle when served. A little goes a long way!
I found this in your cook book a little while back, so good. Gonna have to give them a try in the Mt Dew. As far as adding things, Maybe some mushrooms and/or red bell peppers.
Love the russet potatoes. To add along with the dish, I would use a prickly pear catus. Just dice it up and it's another sweet and flavor that would be great. Thanks for helping me cook more.
Adding chives as the last ingredient. Thank you sir for a great channel and thank you for your patriotism and remembering our bets and responders. USAF Retired
I’m am definitely going to try this recipe! It looks amazing and we do love Mountain Dew. My suggestion for an added ingredient would be a sweet red pepper.
Just watched sparkling tators episode; answer to a request about what could be added. Try one of these cumin or celery seed, or even lemon pepper, small amounts. I am always amazed at how good your dishes are, thanks Kent for being there for all of us.
That looks so delicious! I really like the original recipe, so I'm sure I'll love the new one.👍🏻 I think I'll add some fresh green beans to mine. Since we're not overcooking the potatoes, the beans will be nice and al dente. I like to add some veggies to dishes to help my family eat their greens. 😋
I'm thinking that new spicy mountain dew might be good in this!. As for what I'd add, probably cabbage. Love potatoes and cabbage together and this is really close to how I'd cook them, but never really thought about adding soda!
Lets give this a try. I would add mushrooms to the cook, chives to the topping of cheese. For a changeup I might experiment with some sour cream under the chives.
Hello Kent, Shannon, and all the taste testers! My wife and I, and our 8 children have enjoyed your videos for quite some time and your recipes have certainly brought many a smile and full belly to our humble home. The one simple ingredient I would add to this dish which would bring just a touch of heat and a whole lot of good smokey flavor, would be a teaspoon or so of ground chipotle peppers. This dish is outstanding as is, but if I were to add anything at all that would be it. Thank you all for everything that you do, and may God bless you!
Cowboy Kent…We have experimented and added some fire roasted tomatoes. Also add some cheddar jack cheese to the top and get it nice and crispy before serving. As always we love your recipes and always look forward to the next!
Ive been a cook enthusiast for years and have my own small hot sauce business, but I cant stop watching your episodes can't stop. Just passing on the love and thank you and Shannon for all your love and ideas . Truly a fan and family. Jason Roberson and a big hug to you and wouldn't mind a challenge sometime. Plus some of those Ariat boots would be awesome. But most of all Say hi to beagle!!!
Really enjoyed the video Kent! I'm thinking to add some whole button mushrooms, and just maybe a wee bit of lemon zest to brighten it all up a bit more! Thanks for sharing the updated recipe!
Congratulations Kent and Shannon! This looks like a great modification of the original, which I've cooked many times. I love adding Hatch chilies. That's my number one next ingredient.
Kent.. it's your favorite fan❣: I say marsmallowz😳 Just KiddinG! ADD EGGS for "ROLLINS TRAIL RIDE SPARKLIN' TATER MIGAS!"( no need 4 corn tortillas) 🤠💥💯
This looks amazing and is definitely going on my list to try. I’d add some bell peppers or corn to mine also, maybe both. I do have one dumb question. I’m pretty new with cast iron cooking and I’ve always heard you don’t want to cook acidic things in cast iron, does the Mountain Dew not damage or weaken the seasoning? Or is that just not a concern once you have cast iron well seasoned enough?
You can cook acidic things in it, you just don't want to let anything sit in it for too long. I let mine cool down to the touch, empty it, rinse it out real good and then grease it back up. If the bottom has burnt remains some people put water in it and turn the burner back on, makes it easier to clean but definitely put a coat of grease back on it.
@@heidimarchant5438 You are absolutely correct, plus, if you leave food of any kind in it overnight (like saying "I'll clean up later") your food inside the cast iron will turn black.
Dear Shannon and Kent. First off, I must tell you my beautiful daughter ❤ purchased an autographed copy of "A Taste of Cowboy Ranch Recipes and Tales From The Trail. I can't tell you both how happy it made me. As for additional ingredient(s) I would say carrots 🥕 and mushrooms 🍄 😀 I think they add to the dish without taking away from the light citrus flavor.
I’m a bit late to the cookout, like Duke, but this dish looks amazing. What might I add? Perhaps some Sun Dried Tomatoes. Sounds good to me. Keep on cookin’ Kent.
Hey Kent! I love these taters! I think I would add some other varieties of peppers like bell peppers or sweet peppers to give it another layer with the jalapeños. Love your videos!
I have cooked with cast iron and Dutch ovens for years. Started when I was young and camping with family. Love watching your videos. Have thought about adding green beans? All those ingredients go well with them.
On impulse I bought a bag of potatoes yesterday... don't cook for myself often so hadn't bought potatoes in over a year... now I'm really wanting to try your recipe!
You might want to add some green peppers to the meal. Started cooking with a dutch oven back in scouts. We would sear a good roast and then having dug a deep hole and built a good fire in it, we would put that in the hole, cover it with coals and dirt and leave it for about 6 hours. The meat would fall apart. We added onion, peppers, bacon, and sometimes cabbage. One pot meal.
I’m sure it’s too late for the gift certificates , but I’m going to add my comments for the common good. I have a family member who isn’t a fan of sweet onions in the dishes I cook (how anyone doesn’t like the greatest sweet onion on God’s green earth - the Vadalia, is beyond me). I would substitute with sliced green onions or chives. And a little sour cream on the side might be a hit. Thank you both for tipping your hats for the service men and women and supporting our troops
Tomatillos are what I think I'd add to it. My husband and I put em in a ton of our potato dishes. He introduced me to em and now I use em a lot! they taste so dang good in a breakfast type potatoes hash yuuummy 😋 my second thought is maybe some bell peppers. I love me some bell pepper with potatoes
And my boys will actually eat my food now
This comment made me smile ❤️
Don't sell yourself short. Cowboy Kent may have motivated you, but you got up and did the dang deal of a meal.

I make a similar dish when we go camping. I add kielbasa or a good smoked sausage. Makes it a one pot meal for sure. Congrats on the 2 million mark.
i was going to sugest sausage but i would use andouille.
@john Enlow. email us at info@kentrollins .com please

I think once you hit 2 million subscribers you're a bit past "everyday people".
You got to add some slivered almonds in them sparkling taters with the Mountain Dew gives it kind of a Nutty taste and a little crunch
I like watching your cooking and everything else. I love that music guitar work that's awesome.
Congratulations on passing the 2 million mark. You and Shannon deserve it. If I were to add something to this dish it would probably be sweet corn and/or ground chorizo

Cook a fillet of tilapia with them tatters
Have you tried this recipe to see if it taste just as good?

What’s it actually like? Is it pretty sweet?

Serrano peppers have a better flavor than jalapeños in my opinion..excellent choice. the Mexican gentleman i use to work with always were eating them..
I add my leftover smoked pulled pork. Its like a loaded bake potato in a Dutch oven! Thanks Kent + Shan!

Green onions would elevate this dish just fine. This was a great video as always 👍🏼

Easy ingredient to add: Layer of cheese on top.
Congratulations on your 2 million mark!🎉🎊I’d definitely throw a pat or three of butter in when adding the onions and peppers, cuz butter makes everything better!! 😁
I think some chunked up portabella mushrooms would be good in it
There are a lot of great ideas mentioned for sure. My single ingredient choice would just simply be some extra sharp cheddar. I do something very similar to this in winter on ol' potbelly.
I like the adding sharp cheddar cheese as well , but I think you should grate your own cheese , instead of using store bought shredded cheese .

We really like the Sprite version. We use cheddar cheese sometimes and we have decided to try some Angus beef in the next batch.
That's how my momma taught me to cut onion. God rest her soul. Love your cooking videos. We cook alot alike.. Love from Texas
What an amazing but so simple 1 pot dish for sure! I can't wait to try my hand at it! I am not sure if I would add anything, but definitely will go great with eggs over easy and biscuits-n-gravy. Congratulations on the 2 million mark! 👍
We're cooking this right now and adding some carrots to it and it smells amazing!! Thanks for this awesome recipe!
Sounds great
@@CowboyKentRollins It really is Kent!
No FUNgus, keep yours.
Now that would be good
Or maybe some sour cream. Mmmmmm
Thank you ever so much from southwest louisiana

Rosemary would be a perfect addition I heartily agree.
It's the same thing duffus it has high fructose corn syrup sweet sugar in potatoes gross 🤢😊
Why am I just now finding your channel I’m addicted!!!
I found this in your cook book a little while back, so good. Gonna have to give them a try in the Mt Dew. As far as adding things, Maybe some mushrooms and/or red bell peppers.
I have to try that on my next batch. It sounds yummy!
Our pleasure!
Thanks William
That looks so delicious! I really like the original recipe, so I'm sure I'll love the new one.👍🏻
I think I'll add some fresh green beans to mine. Since we're not overcooking the potatoes, the beans will be nice and al dente. I like to add some veggies to dishes to help my family eat their greens. 😋
@C Johnson I don't like them crunchy but I don't like them mushy either. 😊
I'm thinking that new spicy mountain dew might be good in this!. As for what I'd add, probably cabbage. Love potatoes and cabbage together and this is really close to how I'd cook them, but never really thought about adding soda!
I agree the cabbage is what I would add to it.
Just now got the notice for this one. I'm gonna HAVE to fix a mess of those!
Lets give this a try.
I would add mushrooms to the cook, chives to the topping of cheese. For a changeup I might experiment with some sour cream under the chives.
Love your the add mushrooms idea!
2 of my favorite ingredients! Thanks Kent!!
Garlic and Mountain Dew?
@@robingeilhuber6081 yes!
I like to use realemon lemon juice in my spuds. Great flavor, a little zing and some citrus flavor. Use a couple of man sized dashes in a 10” oven. 👍🏻
That looks so good! I’d add a fried egg on top of the plate and then top it all with sausage gravy 😋
"Ain't no step for a stepper!"
Love it!
My Mother would say that and laugh.
Momma I miss your sweet laughter! And dad grinning n shaking his head!
Congratulations Kent and Shannon! This looks like a great modification of the original, which I've cooked many times. I love adding Hatch chilies. That's my number one next ingredient.
Kent.. it's your favorite fan❣:
I say marsmallowz😳
Just KiddinG!
ADD EGGS for "ROLLINS TRAIL RIDE SPARKLIN' TATER MIGAS!"( no need 4 corn tortillas) 🤠💥💯
Buy made in the USA
I think he has 2 videos on proper cleaning and seasoning of iron.
Upped the bacon to 1.5 lbs
Accidentally used diet Mt Dew instead of regular
Added half an orange zest to season-all
It's a hit with the family
All I think is some good potter's hot links very great meal
I think that adding cabbage to the potato dish would be great…thank you
Hey Kent! I love these taters! I think I would add some other varieties of peppers like bell peppers or sweet peppers to give it another layer with the jalapeños. Love your videos!
Hands down, one of my favorite recipes on TH-cam cooking.
I would add some breakfast sausage
*If there was one more ingredient in the mountain dew potatoes I think it should be... some cooked carrots!*
I have cooked with cast iron and Dutch ovens for years. Started when I was young and camping with family. Love watching your videos. Have thought about adding green beans? All those ingredients go well with them.
Yo, Kent
I need some help...
I'm a Mexican who can't cook a pinto bean to save the world....
Do u have a tutorial I may refer to?
First?
Thirst!
On impulse I bought a bag of potatoes yesterday... don't cook for myself often so hadn't bought potatoes in over a year... now I'm really wanting to try your recipe!
Second? 😂
May the good Lord bless you and your family brother and sister. Thank you for sharing your gift and making all of us smile.
You are so welcome and God bless you as well
I’m sure it’s too late for the gift certificates , but I’m going to add my comments for the common good.
