Looking forward to your new work, already following!
So much fun to watch this video, the way how you describe about food, talking to people and your reactions while experiencing new things just so funny (in a good way). Love it. BTW, Chinese people don't usually greet each other with 你好,吃了吗/hello, have you eaten. We just greet with 你好/hello, or just greet with 吃过了吗/吃了吗/have you eaten. Normally at about meal time people will ask 吃过了吗 as a way to greet, if not nearby meal time, chinese don't greet that way either.
Thank you very much! We tried so many new foods in this video, and we love trying new things! I will remember that for next time, thank you! I love learning more about the Chinese language!
In the past, China was very poor, and it was a luxury for people to have a full meal, so they would use "Have you eaten?" to wish people a good life. But now that people are well-off and having enough food is no longer a problem, this way of greeting has been gradually abandoned.

From a psychological perspective, addiction to spicy food can be seen as a fascination with calculated risk-taking. It's the sense that you recognize the danger but believe it's manageable, and successfully navigating this risk provides a sense of thrill and satisfaction. This is a key reason why people become addicted to spicy food.😊
You guys gone through so many things in just a half day, love it, many places you pass through will start open and fill with peoples after late afternoon or early evening, you probably will surprised those people came out of nowhere, but that is the real life of Chengdu People, they love the night life, after work go out to restaurants, shopping, play et al till midnight, every day.
Hello Jack, you are so nice for making every effort to speak to the locals in Chinese. 😊 Thanks for that! However, as so many others have mentioned, some expressions you use are just not supposed to be said to everyone, everywhere. For instance, “chi le ma” is more often than not used between people who are familiar with each other before or after mealtime. And people outside of the northern part of China such as Beijing tend to say it much less frequently. So you may find people in Chengdu look surprised when you ask them “chi le ma”. Another expression, “lao tie”, is Internet-term that’s really informal and not to be said to any stranger. Again, young people from the north east of China tend to use it more.
Most of the time in most situations, a “ni hao” will do when you want to say hello. And you are not obliged to address people when you want to start a conversation.
Very interesting indeed! After I paid for that Michelin star meal in the last video I definitely can't afford to try it haha! Maybe next time! Do you think it would be good?
Again, really enjoy watching your video. It’s impressive you could tell the difference between ’Haochi’ and ‘Haoci’ by just observing how local people pronounce (they are actually the same word ‘yummy’ but the second one is in Sichuan accent). Such a talented Chinese learner! 😄
Yeah haha, I drank over half the bottle🤣 but my Beijing friend said he wouldn’t even be drunk after the whole bottle🤣 how much would you have a to drink haha
Hi, Jack, have you eaten? This greeting is generally used in the north, but in the south, this greeting is generally not spoken. When people hear this sentence, they feel a little strange. In fact, you only need to say, 你好, that's enough.
@@quietlivesNot only in Beijing, but also in a lot of places. The only problem is to say HAVE YOU EATEN to strangers. People usually don’t salute to strangers in China.
Hey! Thank you for the advise, I am always learning so I will try to remember this when I am not in Beijing! If you went to Beijing would you use this phrase?
Bro,When I go to Beijing to talk to strangers, I won't use this phrase. It is a very old way of greeting. Some elderly people in northern China use it occasionally, but young people nowadays basically don't use it.
@@JackAynsleyTravel all the happening places are in the southern part of the town. Looks like you are in the northern part of the city that’s mostly elder folks. Take metro line #1 south to financial center, walk west or take metro line #5 to jiaozidadao station and walk east to financial center “twin towers “ there are nice shops and stores along the road (Jiufang mall is a great place for reasonably priced nice food). Very pretty area. The bar area is located near Shangri-la hotel along the river. The newest open air shopping area with a nice walk and nice skyline is SKP, across it the street from global center.
Jack, you don't need to feel embarrassed for the waitress helping you splitting the fried rice. She was just trying to provide a better service. In China, splitting soup or large dish is one of the services provided by waiters/waitresses. Relax and enjoy! You know what's embarrassing? When you say "Chi le ma". It was an old phrase used maybe 50 years ago. Most people don't get what you said when they heard "Chi le ma".😓 "Hello" is a popular phrase being used right now. P. S. Aynsley is so cute. You should go for a panda hair band. 😊
Thank you for your comment pal! I didn't know this but it was very helpful from the waitress, I will try to use Nihao from now on haha, is there any other good greetings you think I should learn? We'll also try and get Paige a panda headband, she loves the pandas!
@@JackAynsleyTravel Awkward ... I meant to say Paige. 😅☺ Sorry I'm not sure what's the most popular/fancy way to say Hello these days. But I did see people use the phrase "好吃吗 Hao3 Chi1 Ma1" (meaning "is it tasty?") to get free food and to make new friends. It works well in most of northern cities in China. You may give a try.
Welcome to China and enjoy life here😊 greetings from Beijing~ what’s your plan next? Visit Chongqing if you have time. Another amazing city next to Chengdu.

@@JackAynsleyTravel This guy here: www.youtube.com/@JasonLivinginChina/featured
He's had the honour of being called a CCP shill by some British newspapers. It's hilarious. Would love to see a collab between you people. He lives in neighbouring Guizhou Province.
Love this latest entry from you two BTW. Quality content. Keep 'em coming!
@@galezhang Yeah I mean, don't get me wrong, I love China and one of our best friends is a true beijinger, but we're not making videos about living in China. We're here for an adventure and things will get harder than enjoying a day in the sunshine in Chengdu haha. Its a great country for an adventure tho, so many places to see!
@@JackAynsleyTravel Yeah, don't sweat it, mate. Just a suggestion!
That’s my favorite cold noodles! Chicken cold noodles with vegetables and peanuts sauce!
Cute couple with great personalities.
Thank you so much! I think I'll keep Paige around a little longer since people like us together 😉
I am native in Chengdu, I like your video, and I feel you are so brave to try everything. One suggestion. You should visit San Xing Dui bronze museum which is one hour drive from Chengdu downtown. I am positive it will change your mind about human history after visit it, period.
I have to say, it’s very enjoyable to watch your ear clean experience, i know it’s a torture but also kind of funny😂 wish you have great time in Chengdu and China!
Thank you! Have you ever had the ear cleaning done? 🫨
@@JackAynsleyTravel nope,for me, it’s out of control 😂
I envy you for being able to speak fluent Chinese and communicate with the locals
hahah, I am no way fluent, I only have 3 hours of lessons! You can speak the same amount of Chinese in 3 hours time if you took the lessons too!
I'm Chinese, and I think Jack's Chinese pronunciation is better than that of many Westerners.
你好 吃了吗😂😂
Glad to watch such impressive tour video in Chengdu, even I had not been there longer than you two, as a Chinese. Thanks for sharing this, plan to fly Chengdu and stay a while like what you did…..
Good Day !
Chengdu is looking like an amazing city, weather is very pleasant, food also look like delicious, and off course the people are traditionally loving and hospitable...
I really love to visit this city.
You should try and visit, I am so glad we did! Have you visited any other parts of China?
@@JackAynsleyTravel I never visited China before, but I'm really planning to spend my summer there. Your videos are helping me to decide it soon.
Thaks bro...
God Bless you both...
I don't think they are influenced by Europe, it is just that people around the world will do similar things like chilling next to a river. It is a shame that those two old men were not honest, but at least there is one girl owner who was. I like that you are staying positive throughout this whole video, thanks for the good contents!
Will you travel to Guangzhou, btw? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Hopefully we’ll be able to visit soon, what would you recommend we do or visit when we go there?
@@JackAynsleyTravel Oh man, there is A LOT. First thing first, the FOOD! Roast goose, cheung fun, which is rice noodle rolls, and is 肠粉 in Chinese, and Liwan sampan congee,荔湾艇仔粥, you name it! Remember to avoid the tourist traps as much as possible. That is to go to the old town area. Then embrace nature in the Baiyun mountains! I have rarely seen Western influencers making videos there!
hope you come to my city, you will enjoy yourself here, not only food ,but also culture
Nice vlog jack thanku making this video ❤
Glad you liked it
天呐 我一个中国人居然在看两个可爱的外国人在中国旅游;你们的视频非常棒!加油;希望你们能去四川周边,那里有非常棒的雪山
Don’t be embarrassed eating from the plate, that waitress wasn’t judging you for bad manners or anything. she was just kind enough to split the meal for you guys

Thank you for the good explanation.
Oh wow I've never thought about it in that way! That's super clever! 🌶️
Wow. This is interesting! Never saw it that way.
Spicy food stimulates dopamine secretion
兄弟,你说的太对了!
成都不但街道非常干净,即使是 Street food 也非常的干净卫生,难怪许多人喜欢成都。
welcome to my hometown! I live around that area, everything looks so familiar to me
Are you Chinese?
Oh amazing! Have you tried the chicken from that restaurant? It was so good I still dream about it now 🤤
MY Favourite personality
Thanks Hassan! Have you enjoyed this video?
@@JackAynsleyTravel absolutely thank u so much I am very happy that you give me reply and the last video in Pakistan peshawar was my favourite video.
You guys gone through so many things in just a half day, love it, many places you pass through will start open and fill with peoples after late afternoon or early evening, you probably will surprised those people came out of nowhere, but that is the real life of Chengdu People, they love the night life, after work go out to restaurants, shopping, play et al till midnight, every day.
china great
I agree! Which part was your favourite?
I know but I am the 酒仙 of the Hutongs. I must continue to travel around China calling people 老铁 and asking if they have eaten yet 🤣
@@JackAynsleyTravel Haha, alright, seems you’ve found your style! Keep up the good work!
Appreciate it a lot. Thank you laotie
Nice stuff
Hi ! amazing your Chinese speaking real good !
China almost all city use electric system vehicle, so city so quiet and sky so blue.
Louis vitton restaurant 🤔 interesting........
Very interesting indeed! After I paid for that Michelin star meal in the last video I definitely can't afford to try it haha! Maybe next time! Do you think it would be good?
Love your interactions with the locals!
Great video! Love it
Thank you very much! Hopefully you like the next videos too!
Again, really enjoy watching your video. It’s impressive you could tell the difference between ’Haochi’ and ‘Haoci’ by just observing how local people pronounce (they are actually the same word ‘yummy’ but the second one is in Sichuan accent). Such a talented Chinese learner! 😄
Just curious, were you drunk after drink Baijiu with Beijing locals. It was some unique experience for foreigners. Like your video mate. Keep it up!
Actually mostly used in Beijing
@@quietlivesNot only in Beijing, but also in a lot of places. The only problem is to say HAVE YOU EATEN to strangers. People usually don’t salute to strangers in China.
Hey! Thank you for the advise, I am always learning so I will try to remember this when I am not in Beijing! If you went to Beijing would you use this phrase?
Bro,When I go to Beijing to talk to strangers, I won't use this phrase. It is a very old way of greeting. Some elderly people in northern China use it occasionally, but young people nowadays basically don't use it.
Ni hao is ok
You guys are in such good spirits, very adorable.
😊 thank you
@@JackAynsleyTravel all the happening places are in the southern part of the town.
提前祝贺你们达到一百万粉丝🎉❤你们值得一百万👍
Welcome to China and enjoy life here😊 greetings from Beijing~ what’s your plan next? Visit Chongqing if you have time. Another amazing city next to Chengdu.
We are heading to Chongqing next!! The video will be posted this week!
I’m glad you like my hometown !❤❤❤ but we don’t used to say “吃了吗”in ChengDu 😂😂😂 it get used in BeiJing or northern city😊😊😊 enjoy your trip ❤have a nice day
delicious “hao chi” (好吃) is the standard way to pronounce it. But in our sichuan dialect, it’s “hao ci”. So when people speak mandarin with that accent, it might confuse you a bit.
Ah yes that did confused me definitely haha. I'm sure as we travel through the country I will face more dilemmas like this!
WoW, you can speak Chinese. Your video is very good as well. Have a good trip in China.
Thank you very much! I can just speak a few phrases but I’m always learning, do you have any new phrases that would be useful?
Love from 🇧🇩❤️

That luxury shopping area's so cool,I think that Louis Vuitton store in that historic building is brilliant. Looks like Chengdu must be quite a rich city as I can also spot Tiffanys and Dior there as well.
