Inspiring!! Great job, just finished a 25 year old procraft, from crap to mirror finish in 30 hrs.
I’m at 4:42 on this video and I need to go ahead and state that you my friend WOULD MAKE A KILLING POLISHING ALUMINUM!!! You’re detailed as hell man... you take your time and explain everything easy to learn... Let’s finish this video.. 💯💯💯💯👌🏼
Haha I appreciate it!! I'd love to get into some kind of side business doing that!!
@port nut I know, every once in a while you get a customer that understands that lol
awesome job, explained it perfectly. There’s really nothing to it, just gotta have patience and the best tools your budget can afford
You couldn't have said it better!!
these are my most favorite style of rims. I see it on commercial vehicles all the time.
Beautiful!!
Tip: Take an old hub, and weld or bolt it to an electric motor, and mount your wheel to it. Set it up so your wheel face is up. A wheel balancer works pretty good too, but that angle is a little harder to work with. This is how a lot of wheel refinishers, can bust out multiple wheel sets on the daily. This is good for filing and sanding out curb rash, cause you get an even lip all the way around, as well as sanding out all the pitting/knicks, cutting, and polishing the wheel evenly without creating low spots.
Always wanted to do that!!! If I polished wheels more often I would definitely build a fixture
@@NaztyNate Cool!! Yea, i haven't made one yet either, but i have salvaged all the parts needed from an old furnace. Electric motor, belt, and a multi speed spindle pulley, so i can adjust the speed. Going to use a 4x100 hub, and just throw on a hub adapter for different size bolt patterns.
The wheels look great ... would be nice to have had more info on the product used, and how you went through each step of the whole process from start to finish - Thanks for posting
I apreciate the tips. I have some light corrision pitting, otherwise the wheels are in good shape for their age. Thank you Nate!
thanks Nate, for harbor frt. sanding block tip , was just going to use sand paper, bought cheap torq thrust wheels, going to sand, polish, and paint spokes black. 139.00 bucks unfinished vs. 500.00 + finished. Time to get nasty dirty !
Start with 180 on a DA sander and work to 600. Then go to cutting with a 6000 rpm grinder, cuts out the defects faster and giver you better clarity.
I'd definitely give that a try! I'm always looking for tips so I appreciate it! Maybe if I find another set that's beat up I'll give it a try!
Polishing aluminum is one of the dirtiest jobs I've ever done. But dang it looks awesome afterwards.
I didn't realized that until I did it! Lol, totally worth it though!
I polish rims all day I am covered in rim polish n dirt
Wow absolute jewelry! Great job! Man I wish I had the patience to do that.................
Dueces... they look really awesome. Great video. I will try this on my wheels.
Man those are shining! Nice work!! Alcoas look awesome
AWOSME CLIP NATE. SUPER GOOD JOB. THANKS FOR SHARING THE CLIP. THEY CAME OUT SOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL
Caps my old dude
I've gotten a faster and better shine with less work by turning the microfiber constantly. You will go through towels faster but it's worth it.
First of , great job looks awesome.
You've gotta start wearing dust masks and solvent resistant gloves if you don't want to end up getting lung and skin cancer.
Think further then today.
I appreciate it! I totally agree and honestly didnt know how dirty I was until after I was done. Definitely would recommend a mask!
Yep, harbor freight has those black 9 mil disposable rubber gloves 50 to a box, I use them for all my dirt greasy work.
YOLO!!!
@@NaztyNate You can't be nazty nate without being nazty but seriously do take care of yourself.
Cant be worse then korona
That sanding block I believe is a drywall/ mud finishing block. Very interesting and helpful
I think your'e right! They work super well for this though haha.
@@NaztyNate fantastic work on those wheels man👊
@@featheredcoyote5477 Thanks man! I appreciate it!
good vid,you can set up a shop vac with the nozzle close to where you are working to cut down on the mess.
That's actually genius!
Very nice job! The wheels look great
3 days later..."well that's all there is to it". 🤣😕
Great vid, quick question would you be able to clear coat (automotive clear) them after polishing ?
looks so clean after!
Thanks boss! Cant wait to get em on ;)
When you hand polish your alum, you should use cotton terry cloth. It will scratch less than the microfiber and leave a nicer finish.
Oh nice! Good to know!
Clean microfiber doesn't scratch at all. You can polish paint and wipe off with microfiber and inspect it with a light and there's zero scratching....and that's in paint which is MUCH MUCH softer than aluminum. On the other hand, you can NOT wipe down with terry cloth because it scratches badly. That said, I'd imagine terry cloth is fine for metal.
You can also use WD-40 to wet sand with the sanding discs. I did a horrible set of aluminum mags. I used. 400 grit up to 2000 to polish to a shine. Wear an apron, goggles and gloves. Or you can just throw away your clothing afterwards!
I have heard of that actually! I'm sure it works well
@@NaztyNate
Messy as heck!
Hey what's up, umm what about if u wanna polish then by hand. What tools can I use
Great job Nate
looks brilliant
now how can it stay shiny and not oxidize? I heard clear coat wont work.
I also hear nano coat chips about the same as the average clear coat too
Acid Wash, and apply Blue Premium and get same results for less than 25 bucks lol
Yo you lose me wheel look great what do I need to get stuff to get them shining like that please let me know ... thanks ...
Wow you did a great job. Thank you for sharing
Can you do video with motocyle Whells’s aluminum Goldwing
How much would it cost to do my tractor trailer rims?
WAOOOO AMAZING RESULTS..
CONGRATS
Am I able to do this with any silver wheel or does it only work on aluminum wheels? I want to buy these silver wheels but I have no idea what they are made out of
Good video amigo 👍 got some old American racing rims that I wanna make pop for this 67 International travelall.... I'll follow yer lead🤙
Thats gonna look nasty!!!
Sweet!
Looks like you dive right into your work 😉 Awesome work. But OMG 😲
That's right! Thank you!
Just wondering but if the wheels are pretty shiny to begin with can u skip sanding or is it necessary
Yes definitely!
He did that!!! He's bad!!😎
I just did my semi truck headache rack last weekend. I got most of it done... Sanded it with 220 and it was too much so i need finer... I also have haze marks... Probably going to sand again and redo... I wear a respirator also
That's awesome man! Sanding is definitely the most important part. If there is still a haze/scratches that just means the early sanding marks were not sanded out with a finer grit. It'll be impossible to get them all out but just get to where your happy with the result!
@@NaztyNate i am going to try lighter sandpaper next time. Every time i do it, it looks better. I have a video on my channel if you want to check it out... The last video i loaded.
Wow beautiful job thanks for sharing buddy really appreciate it 👍👍
Thanks 👍
This is a damm good video. Thanks man for explaining everything very well 👌🏼
I appreciate that 🤟
those look great! I know how much work you had to do and I can tell you know what you are doing.
Can i do this on my forged aluminum wheels? And if so do i have to sand it down to because it has paint
Yes, this is exactly how forged aluminum is polished! You will need to remove all paint before polishing
I guess Zephyr didn't put gloves in the box.
Great job 👍
Lmfao!
Really Nice Work!
If you dont have a tire machine, put the rim back on a jacked up car with all corners of the frame up on jacks, and rotate your wheels to the drive axles, then while at idle you can POLISH them while they rotate. If you are a scare D cat, you can always spin them without the car running and spin them by hand th-cam.com/video/4HtWbGex3k4/w-d-xo.html ( take the valves out and weights off first ) you will still have to do the lug holes after you've taken them off the car.
well done! great vid! they look great!
Great job, I want to see those on your truck
Thanks!! Cant wait! It'll be real soon!
Nice results!
Bad ass video... well explained well worth the watch!! Thanks a lot man... 👌🏼 highly recommended!!!
Thanks alot man!! I appreciate the kind words!🔥
Excellent job! Did you have clear coat them for protection
I've thought about ceramic coating them to protect them but i've just been keeping them clean and hand polishing them to keep them shine!
AWESOME VIDEO!!
How is the compound applied?
Good video that helps me out!.
Thanx for sharing
Was the Zephyr product able to remove all the sanding marks?
I'm currently in the process of redoing some factory Ford F250 rims that have heavy oxidation which required a lot of sanding. I can get them to shine with normal aluminum polish and a puffing pad but the scratches are still prevalent. I was looking into the zephyr kit, but I don't wanna invest if i'll be in the same situation.
It does take the sanding marks out but it depends. You need to make sure each time you step up in grit you are actually removing all the sanding marks from the last grit. You should sand up to about 1000 grit before you start polishing
Hey man thanks for the swift response! My finished product rims are at 2000 grit, so I should be good to go with the polish kit from then right?
@@YeZookaChannel oh yeah they should shine up nice if you're at 2000!
@@NaztyNate AWESOME! Your rims turned out well, hopefully I can get mine looking like them. Keep up the good work!
@@NaztyNate Do you have an IG? I just got my Zephyr stuff in and I still had the same hair line scratches after finishing buffing. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Was maybe hoping I could dm you some pics/videos on IG
Very good video and job. Thanks for sharing
Does it stay polished?
What do you put to keep them polished? Wax, coating?
You just have to keep up with the polishing. SOme of these best hand polish is white diamond or zephyr pro 40
Came here for the instructional... ended up looping that 0:03-0:06 4-stroke braaapin more times then I care to admit 😂
Hahaha that thing ripped!! It was one of my buddies bikes but so nasty!
Can you put a link directly to everything you bought in the comments? That would be appreciated
I have any updated video with most of the links
what grits did you use?
Very helpful...can save me money,thanks.
When you sand it with a sponge do you add something to that too?
Nope, just lots of sanding!
@@NaztyNate awesome man I literally use your video for howto do and perfect aluminum polish. Thanks brother !
Killer work man!! 👌🏽
Thanks man!
Basically, the smoother you get the aluminum the more it will shine.
Exactly! The more effort you put into each step the more it will shine!
Go Bucks !
What were the grits on the harbor freight sanding blocks? That was step 1. You said 600. Was that the only one used?
Yeah that was the only one I used, but I feel like those harbor freight sanding blocks start to fall apart and become close to 1000 grit. It would be safer to work your way up to 1000 before polishing but that's up to the user.
Hey I want to put a set on my 2008 Chevy 2500 HD all what should I do
I've got another video explaining everything with my wheel setup. If you have any other questions let me know
Were can i get those products bud live in the uk
I think you fast forwarded through the most important part and the reason I came to the channel.
what part? If you have any questions I'd be glad to try to help!
USE bread flour to get Polish off ... it works great
I have actually heard that before!! I'll have to try it some time
@@NaztyNate i worked at a truck stop a old man that cleaned trucks showed me .it works great . No scratches left behind In that soft aluminum
@@3madeamps that's the best place to learn! That's awesome
Good job rock ‘n’ roll !!
Great video! Any idea how they hold up as far as corrosion?
Bad ass edit 👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻☝🏻 and very helpful appreciate it .
Thanks!!
Sanding boogers for weeks lol. Wear your dusk masks. Looks good👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I learned that the hard way Lol. Thanks!
Great job
What type of grinder were you using they say to use variable speed grinders would a regular grinder work
A 7 inch grinder can be used to do the main cutting. But you will want to use a buffer/grinder with variable speed (up to 3500) too get the best shine with the last few steps.
how long did it take start to finish ??
Great video!!
Awesome job
Thank you!!
How much do you charge?
What grade of sanding block was used for this?
its around 400-600, but the more you use it the more dull it gets so it works its way up as you use it
Hi.. Where did you get the nut and buffer for the polish??
It's all zephyr products, the link is in the description.
Nazty Nate thanks!!!!
@@jesuspena4884 No problem!
What was your time spent per wheel after you got the hang of things? Good work, good vid
I appreciate it! I'd say 1 or 2 hrs per side of wheel once you get the feel for it. Since I did both sides of each wheel it took longer.
damn that loooks sweeet! good video thank you for sharing this man
Of course man glad it helped!
How much it cost to have the rims milled down
Only a couple hundred bucks for all 4!
At what rpm did you have your buffer for each polish step?
as high as it will go, the last step gets turned down to about 1500 or can do by hand
Bad ass dude...love it
Thanks man!
I really need all that to get that shine ?
How much all that product cost ?
You can do it without but it will take alot longer. This was around 100-150
So worth it !
@@Moto.Bully12 Definitely!
how long did the polish last?
It lasts a long time. But with rain and brake dust it gets dull a little quicker. If you keep them clean the polish will look good all summer.
Thanks for this vid. I have a set of Appliance Turbo Vecs to polish.
Can you do that by hand? I don't have electrical tools
You can, but you gota get the elbow grease out! It takes alot of work but its do-able
@@NaztyNate I tried polishing my aluminium supermoto wheels with a standart polish paste but it just makes it matte color and not shiny...Do I need to buy specific paste for aluminium?
@@Unknownas1337 does the towel turn black? If not there may be clear coat on it
@@NaztyNate Yeah, It turns black. You can see little black dust when rubbing with the pasteand a towel or a sponge
Can I use something else instead of ceramic coating?
Absolutely. Some people wax them just to help keep water and dirt off. Some people clear coat them, this will dull the shine a little bit but you wont have to polish them again if it's done right. Or, just hand polish them every few weeks to keep them shining.
@@NaztyNate thanks for the response. I want to clear coat them after they're polished. Do I have to scuff them before clearing them? Or can I just spray clear right over the clean surface.
@@HackMasterBlaster I've heard mixed opinions on that.. I have not actually done it so I'm not sure. I would call a local shop and see what they say.
Great polish job...need to be clear coat to protect it from oxidation!
Thank you! Maybe I'll try that on a test wheel. I've heard clear coat makes them a little less shiny, but it would save it from oxidation.
What buffer kit from Zephyr did you use????. Great presentation by the way. Thanks
I didn't buy a kit, I just bought the items I thought I would need Lol. When I decide to polish them again I might try some different products from them just to see how they perform.
Can you sand blast the wheels to start?
I would not recommend sand blasting before polishing. It is very hard to get the surface smooth again after blasting (it would require a lot of sanding). The best way is to use sand paper and work your way up to 600+ grit.
Nice job
Thanks man!
