KELLI!!!!! You got me so inspired with your past video on all the different 'free' or cheap clotheslines that you have made over the years. I put on my thinking hat & my hubby & I developed a very cheap ($15) clothesline for my new neighbor. She now LOVES to hang her laundry & her husband decided 1 wasn't going to be enough & is going to run another one. I loved hers so much that I got the hardware & my husband made me one too & now my MIL wants one LOL. I do every stitch of laundry on Mondays & I would always run out of line space on my traditional T-post lines. And what she has found (that I discovered years ago) is that it does not take as much time as one would think & if she hangs & folds things in a certain order off the line, it saves time on the sorting, folding, & she can just take the piles & put them directly into the drawers. AS for the tomatoes, Last year, I plucked the suckers off & brought in to root in a glass jar. Once they rooted, I put them in pots & finished growing them inside. In NY we have a short growing season, but I had some fresh tomatoes in pots until late October!

I love your garden! The chickens are so fun to see. My mother is raising chickens now, and they are now in the teenager stage. Instead of staying where she can see them, they now hide in the tall grass where she can’t see them, exasperating her, but I don’t think she would have it any other way.

The arial shots are lovely. I’m in awe at how beautifully the garden is growing. I’m heading out to mine shortly to water and fertilize.

Try chopping the veggies and see if your chickens will like it. They may not eat it right away or will probably wait for you to leave then they’ll eat it. Chickens are funny and entertaining to watch. 😊
Edit: your garden is so beautiful! Such a blessing the Lord has given you! ❤

I've noticed with our chickens, they don't always like new snacks the first time. But eventually, some come around after we've tried a few times.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden. You really are growing a lot of tomatoes. I cut back this year because I have so much sauce that needs to be eaten I didn't want to add anymore to it. But, I had a bunch of volunteers pop up and my brother gave me some and there were still a few varieties that I wanted to go. To make a long story short, I have more tomatoes than I will need again. Thank goodness it is only about 20 to 25 though. See you on the next video.

I am 44, a stay at home/homeschooling Christian mom. My husband's income is not high and I need to do a better job being frugal. I love minimalism but need to stop buying similar things that I've just gotten rid of! Any tips would be appreciated❤

    • @pattyhansen7563
      @pattyhansen7563 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

In my experience, minimalism is for people who have $. Minimalism & frugal are two different ideas, in my book. Minimalism is more for people who don't like 'clutter' & who spend quite a bit of money on a singular item to buy the best quality item that their budget can allow. Frugal is using what you have on hand, holding on to some things for a potential/future use even though you don't know what that might be yet, & being patient about making spur of the moment purchases. When I 'need' something, I shop my house first & I have trained myself to look around at what I already own to do the job even if it might not be a perfect fit. If I don't have it & it is a temporary need, then I ask to borrow it. If I have the need to borrow said item more than 2xs then I try to shop for it 2nd hand & last resort is to buy it new. Once I have something like this I HOLD ON TO IT! I am not in the habit of getting rid of anything, really. I gave my new neighbor 'laws'; Rule #1 - don't throw anything away LOL Rule #2 - when buying something think about multipurpose use (ex:like if it comes in a cool jar, buy it to use the jar after the product is gone) And NO I don't live in a hoarder house. The point is to use the item or its packaging more than 1x so it is always being useful & not laying around collecting dust. I am always telling her to quit 'buying' as the first option. Get creative & make friends with people that you can share items. My MIL & I do this with canning jars. Neither of us has the storage space to keep all of our empty jars in one house. So we work together to buy/find jars, can together & fill the jars, split them up between the 2 households, & each store only a portion of the empty ones. (We probably have several hundred jars). We split the cost, time, work, storage, etc..& have tons of fun while procuring food that feeds 2 households. I would say collaboration is one of the most important ways to be frugal. & there are other benefits - develop community, trust, dependence on others which keeps you humble & teaches you to be forgiving & loving! All great Christian 'side effects' LOL. I know this was long, but those are my tips & I hope they can bless you. Remember: Don't throw anything away, just lend it to someone for a little while until you need it back & let them store it🤣🤣🤣

    Your garden is beautiful!
    I admire your efforts.
I find bouts of joy over a single tomato.
My gardening efforts are in the beginning stages.
My favorite plant is the tomato plant, and I have struggled with growing them in our new property.
We have voles too so, we have raised beds garden.
We have a ton of blossoms but typically no fruit.
I definitely would love to have a system like yours.
My husband has a coworker that has aquaponics .
I am definitely new to that.
He has lots of success and will teach us.
I am very interested in your compost beds.
Do you just dump the compost and cover with soil and turn?
I believe this would be very helpful for our garden.
We have 13 silkie chicks that were gifted to us..
They are so cute, and I think one is a rooster as it sounds like it's practicing the crow.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Blessings to you and yours...

That is wonderful you know people who have aquaponics, that's so cool. And yes, that's pretty much what we do with the compost, Scott will turn it every once in a while to get the outsides to the inside where the heat happens! And I love that you have silkie chicks, so cute and what a blessing! I hope this year your tomatoes improve, I know how frustrating it is when you spend so much time on something for it to be a dud.

If you have lots of blossoms, but not much fruits, maybe pollination, or lack thereof, is the issue. Take a small kid's paint brush & 'tickle' each blossom with the brush -going from blossom to blossom. Maybe you are lacking pollinators in your area. plant some flowers around your tomato bushes to attract whatever ones will come! i don't do any separate flower beds. I put all of my flowers right with in my vegetable garden to increase the attraction to butterflies, bees, wasps, etc.. but you can always 'trick' the tomatoes with the paint brush idea.

I asked my husband, who is an incredibly knowledgeable gardener and he said he’s never seen or heard of new tomato starts or suckers growing out of tomato branches. You must have mutant tomatoes. 😂. So interesting that it’s happening on more than one variety. I’m curious to know if all the varieties are from the same seed company?

If those worms are the same worms that are eating my tomatoes, then they are not army worms. We also have army worms throughout the year, usually in the fall, and the chickens won't eat them. But the chickens will eat these worms. I saw someone call them Catalpa worms. I don't know if it is so. At any rate, I started deeply watering my tomatoes, and now the Catalpa worms seem to not be so bad. I am quite a bit south of you, so probably a little further in the growing season. I do want to find out what these worms are, though.

Chickens prefer meat/animal foods and fruits over veggies, FYI!
