There are hundreds of species of exotic pets! Some examples include: fennec fox, porcupine, serval, wallaby, boa constrictor, rainbow crab, bush baby, zebra, squirrels, ostrich, kinkajou, macaws, springhare, lemur, leopard gecko, tarantula, capybara, sloth, owl, cockatoo, muntjac deer, lion, short-tailed opossum, raccoon, scorpion, green iguana, and more.
Domesticated exotic pets include domestic rats, hamster, gerbil, goldfish, guinea fowl, Bengal cat, peacock, fainting goats, and sugar gliders.
We post introductory videos to animals that can be kept as pets, care tips, address controversies, legal issues, and more. Please see the posted links for more information about this subject!
This video lists some completely herbivorous, vegetarian, or plant-eating lizards or those which can be fed non-animal foods in captivity and can be kept as pets. Perfect for keepers who do not want to see dead rodents or live insects! Some people may find these reptiles challenging to care for, and some of them get large and demand walk-in enclosures. Please be sure to do your research before acquiring any animal.

I would definitely get one if I had money for an exotic vet in the USA. I technically already have large enclosures and am extremely animal eccentric myself. I'm also disabled and home all the time. They are adorable.

No more difficult to handle then a business of ferrets. They aren't even as destructive as ferrets. And the urine washing? Rats, mice, ferrets, even unfixed cats do similar things. And I can assure you, even rat urine isn't that smelly if you give them baths regularly. It's a very small amount and rats do it also and people still cuddle them, etc. It's not toxic or anything and all these animals drink is water so.
They do need large space though like ferrets. But any nocturnal animal can be shifted to match their owner's schedule. It's not hard to alter circadian rhythm in mammals if you nurture them and condition it by the species.

Oh my heart they are so bloody Adorable and wow can they jump. I never seen so much activity in one video..lol.. I have rats and they are nocturnal too but can adapt to your schedule and can be a bit quieter in winter sometimes depending on the rats personality. I would love a couple of those but can't afford it right now so I'll have to just watch video's.
These little guys are so adorable!!! Aside from lemurs, lorises, tamarins, marmosets and gorillas, these are the only non-human primates that I like!!! However, I cannot offer them appropriate care so I will just enjoy watching them on TH-cam…

Bushbaby as pets?
The tiny "Nagapie" (night monkey in Afrikaans) are at risk due to humans wanting to keep them as inappropriate pets.
Cute and cuddly looking but did you know they mark their territories by urinating into a cupped hand and then rubbing this on the feet, bushbabies spread their scent wherever they move. They are also only active at night and need a very specialised diet.
Many species of nocturnal primates are increasingly threatened by illegal collecting for the pet trade. When transported outside of their natural range and climate, many bushbabies die. This is partly because they are adapted to a specific climate and landscape, but also because each species has a very specific diet, which they typically do not receive when they are kept as pets, by inexperienced keepers.
Furthermore the incorrect diet will result in mal-formed bones, kidney and liver damage, obesity and psychological impairments.
Bushbabies are very prone to respiratory problems if the correct temperatures are not maintained.
New owners often grow tired quickly; these are nocturnal primates and owners often get bored of them sleeping during the day and do not give enough gum or adequet insects needed to sustain them at night. When the novelty wears off the animals are often dumped in the nearest veld. Where they often do not survive as they do not know the landscape; dehydration and starvation.
It is AGAINST THE LAW TO KEEP INDIGENOUS WILD ANIMALS AS PETS AND UNETHICAL.
If you see someone with an indigenous wild animals as a pet, get in touch. Or call your local SPCA.

this is a great pet for me! I am nocturnal, very curious, very affectionate and I totally love how they jump! The downside is... I do not have the money for their maintenance, yet.
If they were legal and raised where I live, I would get a pair. But I would also need some kind of little greenhouse for them to set in. Poop isn't a problem when the ground is dirt, and also they woud have plants to climb and jump to !

Wild animals can make good pets actually. There are captive bred bush babies that are taking well care of. Just so you know. Just because something isn’t domestic it doesn’t mean some people should not have them as pets

But I agree if the owner do more research any animal can be pet but no one else would give a properly care for them ,like many dog and cat owners no doing research because they think dog and cat is easy to pet. Many owners feed bad kibbles for their pet no one will care about they diet, There are still many owners who have not given a good environment to their pets and many problems with dog and cat owners. Sounds like excuses and nothing dissuaded me. Expensive? Look for bagain. Urine bath? They are 2 inches and 1 lb. Expensive vet? Find One who is not a quack/charlatan. Same excuses for not gearing cats 1 or 200 years ago I bet.
"Excuses"? It's just information. I 100% want one, and there used to be none in the private trade...until now. So that dream is no longer dead.
