Welcome to MASpets! A channel dedicated to providing high quality information about exotic, alternative, and unique pets, as well as traditional ones. This channel supports the freedom of pet owners to care for the species of their choice as long as that animal has been shown to thrive in human care under the right conditions. We strongly believe that facts and education, not admonition, is the best policy for encouraging potential pet keepers to choose the best pet for their living situation. We believe there is no such thing as a ‘good pet’, and do not promote any particular species as pets, however we understand that the desire of some to own something different is essential to their expression and existence as an individual. Whether you are considering a pet, or are just interested in the subject, this channel invites you to become informed about the exciting world of animal diversity.
There are hundreds of species of exotic pets! Some examples include: fennec fox, porcupine, serval, wallaby, boa constrictor, rainbow crab, bush baby, zebra, squirrels, ostrich, kinkajou, macaws, springhare, lemur, leopard gecko, tarantula, capybara, sloth, owl, cockatoo, muntjac deer, lion, short-tailed opossum, raccoon, scorpion, green iguana, and more.
Domesticated exotic pets include domestic rats, hamster, gerbil, goldfish, guinea fowl, Bengal cat, peacock, fainting goats, and sugar gliders.
We post introductory videos to animals that can be kept as pets, care tips, address controversies, legal issues, and more. Please see the posted links for more information about this subject!

    Domestication of any animal is entirely POSSIBLE, however the risk of the process can go up a LOT depending on the time you're spending trying to do such, and with certain animals. take for example, Alligators. There ARE really nice Alligators, far nicer and more "Tame" than most, and very tolerant of Human interaction. However, the reason we haven't been able to domesticate them, is their age, and Time to reach maturity. Alligators can live for DECADES, and near Human Lifespans in Captivity, Some Crocodilians even Older. A Crocodile wont reach Sexual maturity to breed another Generation until probably Beyond a Decade. It would take about 50 Generations at BEST for Domestication, as an estimate. If you are reading this post, Domestic Crocodilians will not happen in your lifetime, sadly. It's entirely possible, but the amount of dedication required would be staggering. Multiple Generations of people would have to dedicate their entire lives to raising these animals, who could very well kill a person with EASE should someone make a mistake, And being around those animals every day, All your life, the odds of an accident are High. THAT is why we haven't been able to Domesticate Alligators. I think Tigers and other Big Cats are certainly DOABLE, and least far more than Big Reptiles. However, it's going to take a lifetime of effort, breeding the right, well-behaved animals to get it right. I think a Tiger or a Jaguar would be AWESOME. But, that comes with risk, again. Before an Animal lover hounds on me for this, and says "Wild animals belong in the Wild" I get that. I understand your point. That's why I didn't bring up freaking Orcas from SeaWorld, and tackling this argument the Video made. I love Animals just as much as you do, and I'm simply humoring the idea. Would a Tiger as a pet be a really cool Idea? Hell Yeah (Personally, I'd still go the route of Alligator XD). Is it realistic? Maybe not for now, but still a Cool Idea. People are actually getting fairly close with Foxes, and seems that bout Mountain Lions, and Coyotes could be next. But either way, I think this is a cool concept. I hope at some point this does happen, as it would be incredibly interesting, and be able to see such a magnificent animal up close, and in a safe environment where you'd normally never be able to get that close to it (Legally). As some other arguments made, also helps conservation. Domestic Rhinos (While hilarious) Wouldn't be a bad idea. So if we are domesticating Wild animals for ANY REASON, let it at least be that one.

    “If an animal like a bear kills someone because it is defending its cubs, it will not be recommended to euthanize them for they are acting in normal healthy behavior and is not intentionally seeking to kill humans”. If a bear of any other animal trying to protect its babies charges or swings at a human to protect them, they are definitely intentionally trying to kill them. If that is normal and healthy behavior then eating a human because an animal is hungry is too. Also you said that animals trying to hunt humans are dangerous. But animals attacking humans to defend their babies are too, and their behavior can also be taught to their young. These are some poor points they contradict your claim.

    This is an asinine video. Messi's owners themselves have assisted in creating legislation in Russia to outlaw the private ownership of exotic cats. Messi is a very rare exception to the rule that wild cats are extremely dangerous. Even if they don't attack their owners, they play rough, and it only takes one dig, from one claw, to inflict a fatal injury. Wolves are naturally social creatures; with the exception of African lions, cats are not. It has been 10,000 years since people began to domesticate wolves, and even nowadays wolf-dog hybrids are far more dangerous than ordinary domestic dogs. The idea that people ought to be able to own wild cats as pets is ludicrous -- and unfair to the an9mals themselves.

    Yeah, California (the state I live in) is, along with Pennsylvania, the worst ever state for exotic pet ownership, and this pet law of California is ridiculous. Hopefully, in the future, California will change this law to allow some more exotic pets to be kept, such as the following animals: Hedgehogs, tenrecs, sugar gliders, short-tailed opossums, wallabies, fennec foxes, domesticated silver foxes, bat-eared foxes, raccoon dogs, wolfdogs, purebred gray wolves (if they're bred to be affectionate and docile), dingos, New Guinea singing dogs, Asian leopard cats, servals, caracals, margays, Geoffrey's cats, ocelots (they're almost gone from the pet trade, so hopefully this can be resolved as long as it's from a legal pet trade and not an illegal one), mongooses (including meerkats), genets, binturongs, kinkajous, domestic ferrets, fallow deer, muntjacs, reindeer/caribou, South American tapirs, gerbils, jerboas, springhares, Gambian pouched rats, degus, Patagonian maras, capybaras, several lemur species, squirrel monkeys, common marmosets, and dwarf caimans. This would all be great if the animals were bred from captivity (and not taken from the wild), and as long as the animals are happy and properly kept, cared, bred, and feed, and as long as these exotic pets are NOT too dangerous unlike big predators such as bears and (most) big cats (as well as if these legalized exotic pets being vaccinated so they do not carry diseases or harmful viruses). People would have to be responsible and take really good care for these pets if they want or need to keep them.

  • @101jir
    @101jir 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sounds to me that there's a decent chance we simply don't know enough about their breeding behavior to support them properly in captivity, it might not be a situation where they inherently can't. Particularly because of the "inconsistency" mentioned and the limited research on the matter. As a specialist species (although they are behaviorally adaptable, so maybe not as specialist as I thought?), no doubt they require very specific circumstances. If that's the case, perhaps down the road domestication and fostering could aid their protection as a backup population that could gradually be allowed to become more feral again. Not only is it greatly increasing in traction for being generally popular, but there are so many people that don't have the time for pets. I could also see a lot of people wanting to feed their pet primarily plants.

    I have been reading about lemurs for months now but not out of a will to own them. They are endangered animals and often critically so. They also are not like some house cat that you can easily keep. Lemurs have their own particular way of life which does not include humans. They belong into the wild or at least sanctuaries where professional conservators can care and support them in their way of life. The Duke Lemur Center would be a good example for exactly such an effort. And unsurpringly, they also speak out against owning one as a pet just as anyone who actually works with lemurs in conservation, studies, field work or something else in academia. I really love lemurs and this video just invokes so much disgust in me.
