Full Skateboard Setup, 1987 Powell Peralta Caballero, Trying to Street Skate
    Time Stamps Below:
I have been watching a lot of DanTRooker Videos / dantrooker and decided I needed to just go skate for fun more. The best way I could think to do that was to build a full complete from my childhood. Back when we skated all day with almost no tricks. Just travel around and see what happens. So in this video I build that board and I go try and street skate. I forget how hard it is to skate on a board without a nose. respect to the OG #BonesBrigade
Video Breaks down into 7 parts for your viewing pleasure
Option 1: Just hang out and watch the full video (because you are rad) 0:00
    Cut 2: The Intro
Cut 3: The Grip Job, 02:58
Cut 4: Wheels and Trucks, 09:24
Cut 5: Install Rails and Tail Bone and Sex Bolts / Rat Nuts, 15:24
    Cut 6: The Board 23:28
Cut 7: Trying to Street Skate 80s Style 24:26
No Beer of the Video, too early I need to go skate. Just a Coffee
The Board: Powell and Peralta 1987 Dragon Bat Cab
The Trucks: 159 Independent (Indy) Stage 11 Stock Bushings
    The Wheels: G Bones
    The Bearings: Bones Race Bearings
    The Grip: Powell Ripper
Should have mentioned it has inch and a half hardware.

I love everything about this setup dude, it looks like one of those drawings of monsters driving hot rods! The colours, the shape, the grip, everything looks so fun! Thanks so much for the kind words, it really is awesome when you guys say cool stuff about my skating that I hadn’t really thought of that way! “More All In Than I’ve Ever Been” needs to be a sticker / t shirt! Amazed you can still nose slide that! You should recreate Some Tommy Guerrero Future Primitive moves with it too! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️🙏👊

I had to ride the board fakie to get the nose slide. So really it was on the tail. I wasn't sure how the skid plate would affect the trick. It took a bit but was happy to get a little one.
I think the board is cool but going to take some adjusting to.
Your skating reminds us all to just go skate. Get out of the fences and be creative. Stay Rad Sir.

    Amazing nostalgia.
    I’m 45.
I always go back to old pics and old clips from the skateboarding days of 86-91.
    Crazy.
I remember everyone wore Airwalk, VSW or Vans with a glob of duct tape on the “Ollie side”. We were all so proud of the duct tape.
The preppier skater kids usually had Powell decks, the grungier kids flocked to Alva, the cool kids rode Santa Cruz.
Poser kids always had the latest models and most skateboard fashionable clothes but couldn’t even ollie “one deck”.
We would get our hearts ripped out the moment one of the guys “quit” and would immediately hang around the non skater kids. They were like traitors to us.
It was like that scene in Gleaming The Cube.
“Why are you walking? Where’s your board? Why do you have Nikes on? Why are you wearing a Starter hat? Why do you have a football in your hand?”
Or worse. One of us would get a girlfriend and they turned “prep”.
I remember my very first set up was a G&S Guerrero cyclops deck, red Thunder trucks, German bearings, purple grip tape, green slime ball wheels.
My final set up around 91 was a Jeremy Klein Blind “vegetable” deck with neon green G&S trucks and SMA pequeno wheels.
That’s when I was evolved ollie-ing 5 decks and doing 360’s off of 5’ launch ramps.
    Good times.
    In other news or nostalgia:
A buddy of mine from back then called me and sent me pics and goes….
“Do you know who this guy is?”
Turns out he ran into Frankie Hill at some random convention in Chicago over the weekend.

      Amazing comment. Love this.
I am huge G&S guy. Growing up in San Diego G&S was the $#!+. I still pick up a lot of G&S. They just released the 89 and 90 comp boards. However the Blender Faces board is one of my favorite bowl boards I have set up.
Deck Art and can take you back to a time for sure.
      Are you still skating?
I stopped in 89 with nothing but an Ollie and started again at 41 in Dec of 17. It is the single best thing I do for myself.
Stay Rad and I really appreciate the comment.

      @@AdventuresInSkateboarding
Absolutely. I had fun making the comment.
No. I don’t skate. I still appreciate it, tho. I think I watch the Mullen Dream On video daily and I have a couple new DawWon decks in my basement on the wall.
A few years back I made a perfect Corey Webster “spider skulls and bones” set up. I even bought an old Jeff Grosso deck and spray painted it white. Drew the graphics did the web grip tape perfectly threw on some old black tracker trucks I got from eBay some plain white ribs and some word green wheels on it. It’s better than anything I ever found in Google Image as far as a movie replica goes (Thrashin).
Years ago in Chicago I was on a bicycle and stopped at this skate park along the lake and was watching the guys seen this nerdy looking older guy shredding. Glasses. Heard someone call him Jesse. So when he got closer to me I go….
“Are you Jesse Neuhaus?” It was. Haha.
      I miss those days.
      I can’t go back. I’m over 275lbs as I became a serious competitive bodybuilder.
I think I can still kick flip, tho.
      Another ironic story;
Two years ago I get a random text from an unknown phone number. I text back saying they may have the wrong number. Me being a creep I reverse google the number and it was attached to “Pitbull skateboards”. A small local company in Chicago.
So I text back and go….
      “What’s PitBull Skateboards?”
He replied so we had a two hour talk about skateboarding we went on and on sent him pics of my Daewon decks and my Corey Webster replica.
Owner met me the next day and gave me a couple of his companies decks. Lol.
      Got them all hanging up.
      Good times, man.
Skatemaster Tate cassettes, Limpie pants, VSW berets, sk8 Tv, the Tony Hawk hair combed to one side of your face hair cuts…
Hey. Once I wrote Clawz gloves company a letter telling them I can’t afford their gloves and asked them for an old pair if they have any and the company sent me 3 pair of new ones for free. I was 12.
      Never forgot it.
I look at old decks all the time. Now I have “adult money” I think I might order a few of them for decor purposes.

    • @AdventuresInSkateboarding
      @AdventuresInSkateboarding  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awesome, love this.
Did you know they still sell new Tracker Trucks? I picked up a pair last year and put them in a setup. They are way tight/stiff, put them in bowl board.
I think the art of skateboarding is amazing. I think I have oddly become an art collector with as many boards as I have picked up with "adult money."
I got into body building for 3 years. I was 240 of couldn't run. It is the most addictive thing I ever got into. All that mattered to me was when was I going to eat and when was I going to sleep. The workouts were implied it was everything else that went into it that consumed me. I miss being big for sure.
If you like being around skateboarding, have you thought about getting into filming? I am about to have shoulder surgery, during that recovery my plan is to make videos for people at our local. Highlight them on the channel.
Anyway Sir, stay Rad. Appreciate you.

Great video. I'm 53 and just got back into skating. I made the mistake of thinking I needed a longboard since I'm an old adult but I ended up falling multiple times because my feet kept hitting the exposed wheels. After cracking a rib I decided I'm going get an 80s reissue deck and skate what is comfortable for me.

Welcome Back. I stopped in 89 with no tricks and came back in Dec of 17 when I turned 41. The best part about skating now is we can go build what we had back in the day and that is a great way to start. Plus you will be hyped on your setup. I also have a lot of 70s and 80s G&S.
I did just get into downhill. That is a whole other adventure.

No credit for still skating Sir. I didn't really pick up a board between 89 and Dec 2017. So I started skating at 41. 6 years later still at it with the eyes of a kid and loving every moment. Nothing better than being able to do something you loved at 12 with adult money at 47 😂😂😂.

Dude when I saw how that was going to go down I was like, "£π©$ yes that will be cool!" Really love this setup but not having a nose on the board makes it very challenging, how did we do this in the 80s? I picked up a 10 inch Krooked Gonz with a real nose on it for better street skating. I will quietly set that one up next. But for now we skate the Cab and relive 1987.

I had a vision mark gonzales fat face deck in 1989. Unfortunately, I kick myself now years later for trading it in 1993. I originally learned on a half pipe when I was 12 back in 89'. And why I keeping kicking myself today is that vision deck was a birthday gift from my oldest brother who had already been skateboarding since 86'. He had a Schmit Stix John Lucero deck, broke that on the half pipe, saved up his paper route money and bought the Natas Santa Monica Airlines deck in 1989. He saved his money again, and bought me my first skateboard in 1989. The fun thing was I got to select the rails which were Santa Cruz white rails, bullet speed wheels 97a, 66mm in yellow (originally), independent trucks, and independent risers.
Nowadays, I have five skateboards and just cruise around on my days off. I have Powell Peralta ripper deck (I believe made for a pre-teen rider), but it was my first choice that I re-learned on. Then, I purchased a few others. I tried the Powell Peralta re-issued old school decks, but they were too big for me. I ride a 8.0"x 33.5" I loved your video, plus your skating is spot on how I used to skate years ago. Loved the re-issue you built there. I'm always searching for that first red stain Vision fat face Mark Gonzales deck that I had years ago and loved. I'm currently on my fifth skateboard build. I still have to order my rails, bearings, wheels. 🛹😎 I had decided on the fat face mark gonzales deck because the lady reminded me of Marge Simpson from the 80's cartoon, The Simpsons.

Sounds like you and your Brother had rad setups and good times.
You can get the reissues of the Ginz board from the vision website. I have one set up with slimeballs to include rails and a nose bone. It is my skate to the store board. (Aka beer run board).
Please share your board with us when you get it setup.
I won't say how many complete boards I have setup.right now. It is a problem 😂.
My normal street boards range from 8.25 to 8.75. the big boards are hard to get tricks on. However, in a recent video my friend and I build a 10 inch G&S from an uncut blank and I was able to get some tricks on that.
      Stay Rad and keep pushing.

So, I'm NOT the only 80s kid that skated for a while and stopped & then retook after his forties !!!!! Age 13 til we moved outta the country now I'm 47.
@ Age 41 I bot 💸💸💸 at the Goodwill a Sector 9 26" about 7 or 7 & half something inches wide if I'm not mistaken(on the slimmer side)....but the trucks & wheels were 80's ish (tho Sector9 started in 1993(?) being Gullwing trucks & the wheels 61mm 78a and 35mm contact patch with conical lips but more of a radial diagram cuz CP so wide and sidewall has funneling towards the bearing lodging typical 80's wheels.
I've Amazon & bot 80's style board (brand name Moose) & also 80's style Vision board to use the 80's wheels that I like so much on these so I was lucky the person who donated this Sector9 actually had the idea of 80's trucks(?) and wheels(!)
I'm not 100% sure if Gullwing is 80's but the wheels definitely are,I know cuz I seen similar in shape on Amazon which says that they are 80 styles but I did put the Gullwing on the 80s deck that I bought but fortunately the Vision skateboard that I bought came complete( but the wheels were conical like modern skateboard styles (like you'd see on some Spitfires models )but 90a & these do also say Vision....hmmm ?

The fun part is putting together something you are excited about. I like to do the 80s boards and the new school boards. But what I really like is mixing the two together.
I am about to set up a G&S Neil Blender Modified 80s deck with some new school trucks and small street wheels. This board is going to be for somewhat early 90s skating.
      Should be a good time.
You are a year older than me. I think people our age grew up at least with a board. we were all not "skaters" but it is part of who we are. As we got older we refound ourselves and skating is just part of it.
