    I love this car so much. First thing its more powerful than a bmw m4, is cheaper than a bmw m4 or any other opponent, and it looks very mean. U can say everthing you want but this car its so awsome

    The “secret chamber” also has a wireless phone charger in there. There’s so many inaccuracies in both your reviews of the V and the regular coupe. IMO your beating of the V design incorporated in the car is a bit odd. I have driven both BMW 3 series and the ATS. The ATS has a much better chassis than the bmw does no question about it. The ATS feels inspiring to drive and the 3 series feels like a normal car to drive. I chose the Cadillac over the BMW and do not regret it. It’s been 2 years of problem free ownership and yes I do own a BMW as well. I do like BMWs display better than the Cadillac but I like the Cadillac so much more for how it drives and the new BMW taillights look hideous. You make the Cadillac controls look so much harder to control than they really are as well, which gives a false reality of how really simple they are to operate, it’s touch control, touch or slide your finger to control them. I think BMW has a slightly better build of the interior and more room in the back seat. I bought the car to drive and the Cadillac is a drivers car. That being said, my first Cadillac purchase has been excellent.

    In the comments below, are you guys forgetting this car does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, the same as a Lambo Gallardo, Diablo, and Ferrari F40? This is ain't our grandpa's land-yacht, velvet-clad, sofa-on-wheels Caddy by any means. The new management at Caddy include Europeans who managed BMW and Audi. They have brought a no compromise and "there's no reason we can't compete" mentality to this old brand and it's working. The ATS-V is barely slower than a Challenger Hellcat and Porsche GT2; which in hands of most drivers (lacking race driver shifting skills) would be about equal.
    Cadillac is only reclaiming their world mastery that we let the Europeans take from us many years ago. Cadillac made a 185hp V-16 engine in the 30's at a time when BMW's best cars only had 30-80hp. When Henne claimed the Euro-only "world speed record" in 1937 for BMW at 108mph, Cadillac already had a race car over here that did 165mph. Look it up, folks.

      Well they might be great cars, I dont know since I didnt drive one but american car companys somewhat missed to set foot on the european market.
      While american cars are quite affordable in the US, they come with a huge pricetag here in germany since they have to be importet.
      There are really just a few dealerships and the ones that are here barely get to see those top of the line cars like ATS-V or CTS-V, so you dont really know if the mechanics know how to handle them.
      Parts are also not that cheap here.
      So that means that those cars are really just for enthusiasts and we tend to stick to our german companys or lately even asian companys like toyota or even hyundai(they are marketing very agressive in germany and the cars actually are compatible nowadays).

    All too often I find online reviewers parrot the specs and provide a car review based upon 10 minutes of driving the car like a drooling teenager. I appreciate the more comprehensive real-world review you provided - the look and tactile feel of exterior and interior finishes, folding down the seats and looking at the trunk, the feel and feedback on the steering wheel and yes, even hitting your head while getting into the back seat to test them out (I'm 6'4"). While the "Fun Factor" (speed, acceleration, handling) is relevant, no one drives a vehicle all-out all the time. What's the comfort and feel and sound driving down the highway like a normal person? In rush hour? Popping out to the corning store? Cost of servicing the car? Every car is a compromise in some sense due to design, factory and parts supply limitations. A person needs to look at the positives and negatives of the vehicle and decide what what it must have and what they will put up with against what they will pay. As Trades46 mentioned, European cars are generally much more expensive to service in North America vs domestic cars. So ... based upon this and other reviews I watched, on numerous test drives of this other and other cars in the segment, and running the numbers, I opted to purchase the 2018 version of the car as the best bang for my buck.

    Think Cadillac have improved a little. Looks quite aggressive, large quad exhausts look good, head up display nice, not mad about the glossy black steering wheel/ centre console, rear space poor for a medium large- ish car and sound is well, OK. Keep the great reviews coming.

    This is coming from a M3 owner, this is a very good car. Great styling, nice sound and it's driving dynamics are great. Only criticism would be the interior still doesn't look as nice or high quality are BMW or Mercedes interiors are it's not easily available in Europe. Aside from that a solid performance car that anyone would enjoy.

    Really good observation and top tips about the car Thomas. It's a bit rough and gruff in some places, but I still like it for just being an honest-to-goodness American muscle car that can nearly mix with the big guns of Germany's finest ( Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi etc. ). It's quite a different flavor, which could be the main reason some people are going to gravitate to the Cadillac if they don't want your usual Benzes and Bimmers.
    Hope you can get your hands on a Toyota SF-R or a Honda 660 to review.

    I love the Cadillac ATS-V engine, style, I love this new aggressive direction they've taken. In American the Cadillac was this old man's car. Slow and very boat-y. It was like steering a cruise ship. But I never noticed how much the rear of this car is so boring. We have a saying, they "phoned it in". Something that was addressed by someone on the phone giving directions. Just make it square. They could have done better.

    Interested in the German opinion of top quality American cars regarding price of ownership and servicing-- as in America for example Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes are not only expensive to purchase but very high price for regular service... so in each country- the import comes with premium price- but is it worth it? Does the high price import bring a unique social appeal in Germany ...it certainly does in America, where the badge of the car shows your social status because everyone understands the cost of ownership associated with a German car?Are there any enthusiasts in Germany who would buy a Corvette or Shelby Mustang or Camaro or Cadillac for the panache of owning a unique foreign car?

      A car is not an investment. Come on, you should know better. I invest in properties as they increase in value and yield high returns. A car is nothing more than an expense - they cannot produce a return on investment. You spend your money and will lose your money no matter how great the resale value is.Alfafafafa Giulillaililai Quadrifoglilioliili all the way!

    I like this car. The exterior is to my taste, although I understand it won't be for everyone. An advantage over here in Europe is that this is a rare car, so you're also driving something different. I like the interior too, though not as much as the exterior.
    It's up against some really stiff German competition though. The C63 has this lovely V8 engine and a great interior. On top of that the Caddy is 15000 euros more expensive than the C63 over here in the Netherlands, due to the relatively high CO2 emissions from the Cadillac. Then is becomes an easy choice for me, I don't really need to have a 'different' car! :-)
    That said, I would probably prefer to take a step down in power because this is overkill for me. A C-class C43 or an S4 have plenty of power for me and are considerably less expensive.

    • @FjordTrotter

      well the team that developed the CTS-V are from Australia.. GM's Aussie division makes the Holden brand.. with the Commodore SSV that has the 'vette engine. These cars really handle fabulous.. they put power to the ground better than most American sports cars and out-handle many European counterparts, and are dirt inexpensive. I'm sure there must be some magic from down under in the ATS-V.

    • @mak450
      @mak450 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can't find any sort of nationality breakdown regarding GM's development team. About the only information readily available is that the cheif engineer for this car and the CTS-V are american. If anyone says they're german, I'd love to see a source.

    • @FjordTrotter
      @FjordTrotter 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I'm not saying it's impossible, I feel (especially with my driving style) the 6.8l/100km figure is somewhat crazy for this car. I have a 6sp manual ATS-V sedan w/approx 8100miles (~13000kms) on it and my averages are as follows:
      last 450mi/724.2km: avg: 22.9mpg-10.27l/100km best: 25.7mpg-9.15l/100km
      last 50mi/80.5km: avg: 17.0mpg-13.84/100km best: 29.8mpg-7.89/100km

And rainy weather? I live in the rainiest part of the US. European cars are well made. Import tariffs make parts unaffordable. I hope it's not the same for Germans. For years Germans said American cars were too softly sprung. Oh dear god now you have an American car with a stiff suspension. We eventually learn and dominate. The "V" in Cadillac stands for victory, vanquish, and velocity... you're welcome

    I've owned my V for nearly 3 years, and have to say, it's one of the best cars I've ever driven...
    If you get a chance to drive it again, drive it around in the base Race mode on your favorite, tight back roads. It dulls the throttle input a bit to make control more fluid. There is a sub-menu that becomes available once you've entered Race mode that allows you to completely turn of traction and stability control, but it's buried so deep, you can't accidentally select it. Race mode in the primary menu is perfectly safe for everyday driving.

    In Canada, the ATS-V cost about the same as a CLA45 AMG, or about ~$20,000 cheaper than the equal C63 AMG. I smack my head against the CLA rear doors and I cannot sit behind myself in that car either; sad the A-klasse is not offered here.
    Is it as good as the C63? I say no, but it is much less expensive and comes better loaded and you lose nothing in performance. Also German cars in North America are REALLY expensive to service, something American cars are cheaper.

    • @ssaini5028
      @ssaini5028 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From a technological standpoint the ATS-V is superior to the C63s and beats it in all performance areas. Better chassis, magnetic suspension, plethora of stability modes which are more advanced. The merc has a better interior, better sound out of that TTV8. As you pointed out $20k more plus $$ servicing is something to definitely consider.

    As usual great review. In general the ATS is a flawed car. It was meant to compete/beat the BMW 3 series but somehow it fails-- miserably. The back seat is a joke and the Cue system is no match for I-drive or other systems from Mercedes and Audi. GM my link is a better system but somehow they keep it for cheaper brands....Also reliability and resale value could be problematic. I have driven a regular V6 ATS 2 years ago and I was disappointed by some creaking sounds that wouldn't normally appear in a brand new car.

    Cadillac doesn't sell well in America anymore, only about 250,000 units or so last year. BMW and Mercedes sold over 350,000 units in America last year. While I do like the distinctive styling It just doesn't have the brand cache that the Europeans or Asians carry. I have had 3 Audis and now drive a current generation BMW 535 X-drive and absolutely love it for it's driving character, quality and prestige. Cadillacs also tend to have a lower long-term dependability rating as well.

    I wonder if it's like a typical GM car, meaning: every time you drive it, another part of the interior starts rattling. I guess that's true, since even a brand new ATS in the showroom is super rattly and every plastic piece in the interior squeaks when you press if with your finger. And what's with the same indicator stalks and buttons as the Opel Corsa has or any other cheap Gm car has?
