Drive it for a few months and the glossy black interior is full of scratches. Just stop with those materials. And bring back buttons and knobs. That would be a useful EU rule instead of beeping when you cross the speed limit for a brief moment. Better for safety imho.
Why is every new german eletric car so cheap inside? Like 8 years ago we were laughing at Tesla and now we have these plasticky cars coming from germany.
To save on manufacturing costs and guess what, yep, they put the prices up. Audi losing customers to Merc and BMW due to drop in quality and price hikes.
Tesla proved that you can make an "interior" as cheaply as possible, and fools will call it "modern" and love it. So obviously other manufacturers follow suit to save money.

Electric charging port is useless here in Sweden in the winter. I’m quite sure it will struggle when ice and snow is in the way. And that’ll make it break quite fast..
Yeah that was a stupid design choice. I have had a manual charge port freeze once though and for that I needed to fetch some hot water. It were small frozen droplets all over the place that were difficult to get rid of without thawing them. I guess it should work similarily with the electric one.
They are doing everything to save money.. Tesla is not known for being that luxurious.. but they have way less hard plastics than this, even on their cars that costs half the price like a Model 3 or Y. It’s sad to see how far the Germans have fallen trying to save a buck. No longer a premium brand.
The materials are comparable, but Audi has an edge with real leather. However Tesla has a major edge with the price and drivetrain. Also warranty and maintenance edge goes for Tesla, unless you actually need to fix your car. 😂

Two rows of lights can look good if they're similar and coherent (as on Genesis), but when the real lights are lower, different and kind of hidden like the designers are embarrassed of them (i7) it's bad.

I am a customer of audi in canada and i think their leather is a quality offering. If they can come up with a replacement that has the same quality as leather for northern climates than i would agree with the replacement. i find that the cloth seats are warmer in the winter but they always look dirty after awhile, which is the reason i do not buy cloth seats. Great video, thanks Thomas and Lea!
That feature is here to fool you to think that it is an essential thing on a car, but in the same time want you to forget the amount of hard plastics used for this interior.
@@SudSale31 Mercedes started that with the W220. - Tech, look at all this lovely tech everybody!! - Hmm, this panel doesn't feel as sturdy as before. Why does the material feel so cheap?! - It doesn't matter, TECH!!
yh 😂 i always get annoyed at how all the other markets get all sorts of different interior colours but the U.K market is left with black, black and black
Same for the Australian market. To find anything other than black or "Rock Grey" is rare. The Lunar Silver or Magma Red interiors are nice, but usually only via special order unless a dealer has ordered it for a demo.
Audi UK are a bunch of wankers. Totally clueless. We don't get half the options the EU gets and when we do get some, they package them up - so you end up ticking a box to get one thing you want and end up with two more things you don't. Like I said, clueless.
Puts me off even looking at an Audi (as the cars are decent and usually cheaper than the corresponding BMW or Merc), as I'm just not a fan of black interiors
But its same here in Sweden when I look at used cars from MB... 95% are just total black inside.with gray plastic "decor"... The most boring depressing sight you can imagine... Why? At least here there were many different color combos offered + different wood trims. But no... everyone just had to chose total blackness. Everyone. Completely bizarre.
I don’t know why automakers think Americans don’t want wagons. We do. But the only ones that make it here are usually at the flagship level and out of price brackets for average American buyers. Bring a5 wagon as well
The exteriors are beautiful. I am perplexed, though, with the trend of these manufacturers to interiors made mostly of hard plastic, fabric, etc? The dashboards and door cards of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc used to be made of primarily thick, chunky, energy absorbing rubber/soft plastic. They were designed to protect body parts in a severe accident. This made them stand out from other manufacturers. There was a supreme sense of quality and safety. I suppose the change, aside from weight/cost, is due to the fact that airbags generally negate the need for energy absorbing materials to protect heads, knees, etc. Though I wonder what happens if an airbag fails to deploy...there is no "back up" of energy absorbing flat surfaces...now there is just hard, sharp plastic...which would break into even sharper pieces in a severe impact.....seems like an odd step back to the 1950s when dashboard design was lethal???? Seems like a step backwards to me.?
Apart from the glossy black plastic I really like the design. Especially the rear end is really nicely done. Still, the A5 Avant is a much nicer looking car
beautiful exterior, but too much hard plastic inside. Audi prices itself as a premium brand, but the quality does not follow. I think I'll go with Xpeng instead.
I disagree, looks like a box on wheels, and way too large. Interior is ok to me. Not timeless, like their previous vehicles. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, I guess
@@xx133 agree, externally the Xpeng is more neutral and Audi clearly wins on that front with many of their models. But the fact that you have to pay almost double the price for an Audi with options to get the same features and nice materials does not justify, for me, the significantly higher price. Audi (VW group) is going to experience great competition from brands they have never competed with before. In addition, I think that fewer customers think about being loyal to a brand, due to the fact that it is not a fossil car but instead an electric car, which is new for all brands and the European car brands have been far too slow in their development.
They blatantly shove the cost-cutting in your face; the old steering wheel with those nice aluminum rings in the middle is now replaced with a simple sticker.
Thomas always give a indepth superior review!... The camera work is also sublime, she keeps the camera steady and goes really close. Its almost like i visted the dealer and sat in the car !!!
Ruined my hope. Where is the space in the car. How come Passat with the same length has more space inside having a battery electric motor and ice motor. Same question regarding the door carpets. Passat and id7 do have it and Audi not. What happened to your team ?
The distinguishing feature between Tesla and the traditional brands was that the latter had actual interiors. Now that they've both got the same "minimalist" (aka cheap) interior, why wouldn't you just get a Tesla for half the price?

I really want to like this but: •Expensive •Ugly split lamps •Too much gloss black inside •Too much gloss black on the outside •Very limited colour and trim options, usual grey scale. •Windows are too high and too slim, giving greatly reduced visibility. •Too much screen and over reliance on screens. •Lack of physical controls •Interior feels cheap for the price point and is uninspired design. •All try to look sporty rather than classy. The rear of the estate is so sloped it basically eliminates the whole point of having an estate. •Badly packaged interior space leading to very limited rear seat room for a big car.
A4 A6 are the top selling cars and they’ve positioned it in a electric variant which is not even 5% market share. They’ve got it all wrong, electric should’ve had it’s own positioning and line up, it’s too early to convert your hot sellers to electric. People will not accept it immediately and the brand will suffer for 5 years.

What happened to the concept car? Something must have gone wrong during the realisation. And all this hard plastic is simply unworthy of a vehicle in this segment!
I mostly like it. It's definitely on my leasing shortlist. The blue one is especially gorgeous. I am disappointed with the hardpack in the interior, as well as the glossy black plastic but that wouldn't be different from my current car. The practical specs are really good.
I think Audi's new strategy is to save as much money as possible, and to make more money, which I understand that car makers need to do that now. they save money on physical buttons, gloss black trims, generic designs, one interior design fits all lineup, and they make money by trying to make car designs appeal to a wider demographic and different markets (not necessarily car enthusiasts), in my opinion Audi new design is way too generic inside and out (dual pane headlights and dual screens with large bezels so that in the next facelift all what they need to do is reduce the bezels).. they look ok, not bad, and not good, they are just ok.. I still am not convinced that dual level headlights can work on sedans/fastbacks.. please just keep this trend for SUVs.. Thomas, Great review as usual ! with that level, Autogeful should have 5 million subs at the very least !

80-100k$ with those interior materials? Remember when an a6 was an entry level luxury sedan/estate? Also ridiculous the ergonomics of the rear seats - this is supposed to be a family friendly car
Ok, I am boycotting Audi now too. With BMW included, Germany has lost the aesthetic from studying the greatest cars and industrial design of the ages. All it has studied is a laptop and as far back in history as the Tesla. They don't know what beauty is anymore.
Blame Tesla. They proved that if you make a car as cheaply as possible and call it "minimalist" everyone will fall for it. So obviously the whole industry will follow suit to save on production costs.
Completely agree. German car design today has gone off a cliff. Gone are the days of elegant, beautiful, and high quality design. It's actually very disappointing; I used to love German cars.
@@yissibiiyteTesla is far from made as cheap as possible. It is the cheapest EV with multilink/double wishbone as well as being one of the lightest EVs in its class. If you are referring to interior quality as quality, then that is on you. 😅
@@rkan2 you're right, interior quality says nothing about quality despite literally being called "quality." It doesn't take a genius to look inside a Tesla and realise they spent practically nothing on designing, researching and manufacturing it. And since you want to mention independent suspension, Tesla has the worst one by absolute miles. Feels more uncomfortable than most dependent suspensions.
The electric charging flap is everything that is wrong with the german car industry. Overengineered, overexpensive and overcomplicated cars with no practical advantage, just for the sake of technology
So from now on, new generation Audi cars are fancier designed VWs with the same quality interior plastics. Like the exterior design though. Especially the Sportback. No need for the avant/estate's boot. Clever solution.
Love how Tomas is excited about the elecrical charging flap. Had one since 2019 in a car half the price... Works brilliantly. Also: split headlights again? Really Audi? I thought these guys were supposed to be on top of their lighting game.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at th-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/w-d-xo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: th-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/w-d-xo.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest: www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future. Adding an unnecessary charging port wasn't a budget issue, but eliminating the hard plastics or adding physical buttons for climate controls was. Looks like Audi is making smart choices here.
The low backseats is a dealbreaker for me. What is wrong with Audi making this choice. Also the space in the rear is less than the current a6 avant. And the cheap black piano plastic on the middle console is a very lame choice.

Because Audi knows its customers, and knows well they will still buy this crap even with the shittiest interior.
To save on manufacturing costs and guess what, yep, they put the prices up. Audi losing customers to Merc and BMW due to drop in quality and price hikes.
@honza2755 Absolutely right!
Agree. I was just looking at new Lync & Co z10 launch video, and boy the interior is on a whole different level. Same with Zeeker 001 and so on.

They don't have de icer in the Swedish Lands?
Yeah that was a stupid design choice. I have had a manual charge port freeze once though and for that I needed to fetch some hot water. It were small frozen droplets all over the place that were difficult to get rid of without thawing them. I guess it should work similarily with the electric one.
Hard pack materials on the doors and less legroom than in a normal A6 or even A4 ? 😮
For that price and segment, what happened Audi ?
They are doing everything to save money.. Tesla is not known for being that luxurious.. but they have way less hard plastics than this, even on their cars that costs half the price like a Model 3 or Y. It’s sad to see how far the Germans have fallen trying to save a buck. No longer a premium brand.
@@AleksanderHoffDon’t be deluded the interior materials are better than a Tesla although not great.
@@AleksanderHoff Yeah lol, the new model 3 has way better materials than this especially on the door panels.
The materials are comparable, but Audi has an edge with real leather. However Tesla has a major edge with the price and drivetrain. Also warranty and maintenance edge goes for Tesla, unless you actually need to fix your car. 😂
@@rkan2 My friend bought a Tesla MY with 4k km on the odo, drove it for 13 days and then it was off to the Tesla's. They couldn't figure out what the issue was even after 40 days. They replaced the rear motor and something, but it still produced some weird sounds. Also, the car depreciated like crazy - 09/22 model bought in 6/24 went from 1.95 to 1.1 in price. Once the new MY comes out all these will be unsellable
Can't wait for separate headlights trend to die out 🥲
Also the "adaptive touch controls" trend. Makes expensive cars look like Alibaba fandangle.
Two rows of lights can look good if they're similar and coherent (as on Genesis), but when the real lights are lower, different and kind of hidden like the designers are embarrassed of them (i7) it's bad.

Your spelling of disgusting is disgusting.
Seen the q6 one in perspn which is basically the same. The interior design is better in person. The materials used is a bigger problem for me.
And look at the material of the steering wheel. Worse and cheap
Nooooo I looks like a new Buick from the front!!!
Great video, thanks Thomas and Lea!
cheers! yeah BMW has something like that, Audi just didnt invest
Why would you want to personalise the front lights? An unnecessary gimmick imo.
Because someone would want to write 80085 :)
That feature is here to fool you to think that it is an essential thing on a car, but in the same time want you to forget the amount of hard plastics used for this interior.

What are Audi doing with there interiors
Screen frames on bmw arent so promenent
What interiors?
Simple answer: What everyone else is doing, while lying to themselves that it's "innovation".
Looking forward to us getting the choice of black, grey or black interiors in the UK.
yh 😂 i always get annoyed at how all the other markets get all sorts of different interior colours but the U.K market is left with black, black and black
Bring a5 wagon as well
@@elikinzie23 Yeah!. I own a ‘22 A6 Allroad. Might as well be a RR, given its exclusivity!. 38 mpg when cruising.
Seems like a step backwards to me.?

beautiful exterior, but too much hard plastic inside.

I really want to like this but:

•Ugly split lamps
•Too much gloss black inside
•Too much gloss black on the outside
•Very limited colour and trim options, usual grey scale.
•Windows are too high and too slim, giving greatly reduced visibility.
•Too much screen and over reliance on screens.
•Lack of physical controls
•Interior feels cheap for the price point and is uninspired design.
Im not selling my 2020 A6 50tdi anymore after watching this
I think Audi's new strategy is to save as much money as possible, and to make more money, which I understand that car makers need to do that now. they save money on physical buttons, gloss black trims, generic designs, one interior design fits all lineup, and they make money by trying to make car designs appeal to a wider demographic and different markets (not necessarily car enthusiasts), in my opinion Audi new design is way too generic inside and out (dual pane headlights and dual screens with large bezels so that in the next facelift all what they need to do is reduce the bezels).. they look ok, not bad, and not good, they are just ok.. I still am not convinced that dual level headlights can work on sedans/fastbacks.. please just keep this trend for SUVs..
Thomas, Great review as usual ! with that level, Autogeful should have 5 million subs at the very least !

This car looks in no way cheap. I drove Audis for 20 years, and each generation appears more luxurious to me.
80-100k$ with those interior materials? Remember when an a6 was an entry level luxury sedan/estate? Also ridiculous the ergonomics of the rear seats - this is supposed to be a family friendly car
The new 2025 A7 will be the proper A6
Forget about this e-tron crap

Wow they look fabulous and have great technolgy and stats - Good job Audi!
Those window controls are just a glossy version of the 2018 Polo controls.

Audi bring it here please.
Always real LEATHER in my cars. I will never buy a car without natural leather inside.
Cheers
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html
And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: th-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/w-d-xo.html
New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html
More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html
Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest:
www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html
In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
