    There was evidence:
    >L knew Kira was a student living on the kanto region with access to the police files
    >They sent FBI agents to invesigate all candidates (they all died)
    >The spouse of the agent who was invesgating Light also dies under suspicious circumstances
    >Kira and the second Kira made contact on Aoyama the exact date Light went there.
    >Misa (Light’s girlfriend) is proven to be the second Kira
    >Dude’s always acting hella suspicious

      Exactly. Also, even if these could be called "circumstancial proves", they add up extremely well. The fact that Light seems to prove his innocent or change his modus operandi almost right away, most of the time L has precise suspicions on a certain profile, is what is even more weird (like when they put cameras in Light's house, and he cleared himself under 24h of watching, with the trick of the small tv and chips bag). He immediatly show himself as way too clean and perfect to be true, extremely smart, and fit perfectly in Kira's profile. Adding everything to all the circumstances Samuel already wrote, L's "obsession" is heavily justified by the fact that they ACTUALLY all agreed and took for granted that Kira's power migrated to someone different. Also, Amane was totally proved to be the second Kira, and this alone is a MASSIVE red flag on Light's head. If he take for granted that she actually forgot everything, and so this could happen, os just logical for him to be convinced that Light was (at least, if not IS) Kira.

      You could also add to the list the disappearance of Raye Penber's fiancée. It allowed L to narrow down the list of suspects to those specifically investigated by Raye.

      There's also the fact that L has built a personality profile of Kira while investigating them, and as he investigated Light, Light's profile matched Kira's.
      *During the time when L had just revealed himself to Light, you can see how Light realized that and was thinking of what he should do to make his own profile differ from Kira's.*
      During the tennis match he was thinking if it would be better to lose since L believes Kira hates to lose. But Light realizes that if he lost on purpose and L noticed that, L would know for sure that Light was Kira because the only reason he would have to throw the game was if he was Kira and wanted to show he doesn't care about losing.

    • @rafaelcalmon2858
      @rafaelcalmon2858 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Essentially, by the time Light gave up the Note, L had 100% certainty that Light was Kira. All he needed was to prove it.
      But then Light let go of the Note, and now L instincts tell him he's not Kira.
      *It's like if you were to see a red pencil, and suddenly right in front of you it turns blue.* You have to accept it turned blue, but you know for sure that it was red!
      It's the same with L. He has to accept Light is not Kira now, but he knows for sure he was Kira before his behavior changed.

  • @jarb3018
    @jarb3018 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    L's obsession with Light being Kira is very understandable tbh. Imagine L's point of view:
    - First he finds that Kira is a student that lives in Kanto
    - Kira has access to police info regarding the case
    - All FBI agents that were investigating the police and relatives die
    - Penber's fiancé, who was a great agent few months prior, mysteriously is gone missing and Light turns out to be the person Raye was investigating
    - The second Kira announces that he made contact with the original Kira the same day Light goes to Aoyama, which was a place mentioned on the second Kira's agenda
    - Light's new girlfriend is confirmed to be the second Kira via physical evidence
    - Criminals stop dying as soon as Light is put into confinement
    L knows Light is or was Kira, he just doesn't have the concrete evidence

    The reason I really like this part of the plot where Light's lost his memories is we get to see everybody really shine and have a moment where they're the badass, including some characters you otherwise wouldn't expect to. Matsuda is a great example of this, as well as some moments in the next episode

    I feel like L was such a good detective and his detective skills led him straight to Light he still believes in his own skills because he was never wrong before why would he be wrong now? He talks about Kira having a childish personality but he himself has a childish personality trait of being right no matter what, He knew that light was Kira he just needs a way of proving to the police and to the world that light is kira

    I think L is obsessed with light being Kira just for the fact that there's no other suspect and light fits the Kira profile perfectly but there's no way to prove it, so his fight at this point of the show is not to find Kira but to unmask light as Kira because the pieces fit he knows deep down light is Kira.

  • @Greywander87
    @Greywander87 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I believe L's obsession with Light being Kira largely stems from not wanting to have been wrong. L made a deduction, and if that deduction were to be incorrect then it would say something about L's intelligence and ability to reason. Imagine a five star chef who burns mac 'n' cheese; it would seriously shake their confidence in their abilities. As for why L suspected Light in the first place, one thing to remember is that the chances of Light being Kira were never very high, just higher than any other potential suspect. But there was evidence to support the idea:
    - Light living in Kanto, where Lind L. Tailor was killed during the broadcast.
    - Light being a student, when initial analysis showed most criminals dying outside of school hours.
    - Light being the police chief's son, when Kira actively flaunted being aware of insider details regarding the police investigation.
    - Kira killing criminals while Light was under observation. While this would normally clear Light, the criminals killed didn't fit the normal profile, and it seemed a bit too obvious of an attempt to exonerate Light. Simply, it was suspiciously convenient. So it could just as easily mean Light was aware he was under observation and deliberately tried to clear himself.
    - Ray Penbar's odd behavior immediately before all FBI agents died, when Ray was known to have been investigating Light.
    - The sudden disappearance of Ray's fiance. It's not clear if the reception at the police station informed L that Light and Naomi came into contact. Even without that, it still points to something being different about Ray compared to all the other FBI agents, which again points back to Light.
    - The 2nd Kira declaring that they had found Kira, when the only time they could have come into contact was when Light went to Aoyama.
    - Misa appearing as Light's boyfriend so soon after 2nd Kira makes contact with Kira.
    - Misa having incriminating evidence that paints her as 2nd Kira.
    - The killings stopped when Light surrendered himself to be imprisoned.
    - Light having a similar psychological profile to what was known about Kira.
    When you lay it all out, it certainly makes Light look like the most likely suspect to be Kira. It's almost so obvious that you can't believe anyone could miss such a thing. But most people aren't able to put all these details together and reach a conclusion, whereas L is able to do just that. It's not enough to be 100% certain, but it is enough to give L a gut feeling that Light must be Kira. Certainly I think there's room for criticism about how quickly L honed in onto Light, but by this point in the story there's ample evidence to support Light as the most likely suspect.

  • @zahraa4149
    @zahraa4149 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    From L's point of view, light being Kira is the only thing that makes sense. (Which, of of course it is, because he is kira)
    With the chips eating scene where people died when light supposed couldn't get any info, people with very light crimes. One of them was a purse snacher I believe. That's very suspicious
    Murders stopped as soon as light was locked up, and light basically changed personalities as soon as they started again.
    Misa is proven to be the 2nd Kira. They already know Kira and 2nd Kira met in Aoyama because of the date Misa sent the tape.
    Everything always points to light being Kira

  • @bluelink7286
    @bluelink7286 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Evidence for Light being Kira:
    1. Kira is someone with access to police files
    2. The FBI agents died, meaning Kira very likely is someone who the FBI was investigating
    3. Raye Penber's fiancée dissappeared after Raye's death. L knew her from before and knew she was the kind of person who would want to avenge her fiancé. Meaning it was likely Kira got to her first, and therefore Kira was likely one of the people Raye investigating. The only people investigated by Raye were Light, his family, and the family of one other policeman.
    4. Light fits the psychological profile L had of Kira even before meeting Light. He is righteous, clever, and hates losing.
    5. Whenever Light has been under surveillance, it has been said that the criminals who die are not the same sort who the original Kira killed (for instance people who killed in self defense or people who commited petty crimes), or in the case of when he was in a cell, they literally stop dying altogether. When did begin dying again, Light's personality literally changed, while the criminals getting killed were not the same sort the original Kira killed.
    It's actually very obvious Light is Kira, specially for a genius like L, the problem is all evidence is circumstantial.

    For your question about why L believe light is Kira, you’re looking at it from the wrong angle. From L’s point of view, every single time light has been in a spot where he’s physically unable to kill, murders happen every time. Almost as if light was trying to prove his own innocence. Every time he’s monitored and doing something normal is when they occur. But they hardly occur when he’s out of view. Also when light was imprisoned the killings literally stopped, they only started again when lights personality changed (lost his memory) which L deduced that he was kira and his power was passed on.
    Sorry for that rant I just thought the info would be useful 😅

    • @patatebanine4278
      @patatebanine4278 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think there were two transition points that made L increasingly suspicious of Light. First, there's the fact that Light was being investigated by an FBI agent and he knows he's been killed. The second point is the fact that Misa is suspected of having sent the tapes after a DNA analysis and that she fell in love in the first moment with Light. Light, however, anticipated the suspicions by temporarily erasing the memory of the 2 kira. Anyway, it's two ties is the reason why L suspects Light Yagami as the first Kira has over 30%. Without these links, he would be suspected at 5%

    L was chasing Kira for so long, and all his mind games worked on him even if the result was insignificant. Yes, there is no direct evidence, but why did it work if Light wasn't Kira? And who else could it be? No one. Not a single clue against other people. Was there even a mind contest between Kira and L? And if it was, where is Kira now? That couldn't be Higuchi because of the many differences in their behavior. Did Kira lay low? Why? Did he know that L caught the wrong person? How? There are too many questions that could be answered with only one sentence: "Light was Kira." But still, he can't prove or deny it. That's what upset and confused L. That's what I think.

  • @user-yr5yx8pe8s
    @user-yr5yx8pe8s ปีที่แล้ว +5

    L doesn't focus on evidence to find who kira is. He profiles people and matches them their actions and behavioural profile against that of kira. The evidence is just there to prove that he's assumption is right.

    Reasons for L obsession with Light. Ray Penber died tailing Light, they found evidences that misa was second kira. Misa met light when he went to Aoyama and said he found kira. Those might not be hard evidence but they are strong pointers. Besides, Light himself prepped L to think kira power is transitional when he asked for detainment. Remember him reason

    L had plenty of reason to suspect Light, but I think his strong fixation on Light being Kira was firmly set in stone after Naomi Misora's disappearance.
    Misora worked closely with L on a past case (The BB murder cases, which is a short novel), so he knew her well, and she was the fiancee of Raye Penber, the agent investigating Light.

    I mostly agree about the logic behind L's obsession with Light being Kira.
    I think the main factors are that they all agree (including Light) that Misa either was Second Kira, or she had some connection to him, but lost her memories. Likely the first, because she said she knew Light's name somehow as soon as she saw him. So if she can lose her memorie, so can Light. And why does he suspect Light now? Possibly because Misa said she first saw Light on one of the specific days and areas where the Second Kira said they found Kira.

    In my opinion L’s obsession with Light being Kira comes down to a single line early on in the series. That being when he said that like Kira he was also childish and hated to lose. It’s a matter of pride and ego, up until this case L just hasn’t been wrong so admitting even for a second that he “could” be wrong about Light would be admitting he lost

    just saying up top, I really appreciate all your ruminating on things and theorizing... honestly, it's the best part of watching someone react to Death Note for the first time. I think I'm actually in a good spot to be watching along with this series because it's been so long since I read the manga by now... I only half remember the broad strokes of the story, and I don't know if anything about the anime is different. puts me kind of in a new viewer headspace, and you can rest assured... sometimes I'm theorizing as much as you might be. ^^;
    but to your point about L's obsession with Light... I think it's just like, the cumulative effect.
    when Light was put under surveillance, L noted that Light seemed almost too sterile... too extra normal, like he was on his best archetypal normal boy behavior. I mean... as kind of an awkward example, Light allowed them to see that he had cheeky magazines in his room... but he never, uh... took those proclivities to their logical conclusion. so to speak. basically, Light's bedroom is supposed to be private, and he's not supposed to know that there are cameras there. the surveillance team even put cameras in the bathrooms... they were prepared to catch things on camera that were really _really_ meant to be private. and Light remains so 100% picturesque throughout the whole thing, that L gets weirded out by him. because Light is too squeaky clean. it feels like he's performing. and while a person who wants him to be innocent, like his dad, would never see fault in this... for L, the seed of suspicion had been planted.
    also, while the observation period is going on, Kira's killings changed. they didn't stop, but _any_ break in the pattern is notable. I'm talking about the deaths of the minor criminals that Light caused with the potato chip plan... even if Light then has Kira pivot to punishing minor crime for a while, the fact of the matter is that it started while Light was being watched. and in particular, the first two are Light's big "I have an alibi" kills. once again, the observation depends on whether you want Light to be innocent... Light's dad would say, "look, a Kira killing happened while my son was just sitting there!" while L might note, "Kira's pattern of killing changed while Light was under observation, as though Kira was having more difficulty killing the type of victims that he would typically choose." and while that may be inconclusive... it's one more thing to stack up.
    then there's the Ray Penber connection. as much as the death of Lind L. Taylor narrowed the field of potential suspects to whoever, geographically speaking, was capable of seeing that broadcast... the deaths of those FBI agents narrowed the field to just whoever the FBI agents were investigating. it isn't every investigator on the Kira case that's being taken out... it's just this one group of agents. and of the FBI agents that died, Ray's death stands out to L. they have it on the security cameras from the train station. as Ray lays there, dying on the platform, he's trying to look back into the train car. L notices this, and makes mention of it, but there's nothing they can do to pursue the observation any further. it is notable though, that one of the families that Ray was assigned to investigate was the Yagami family. so Ray stands out, even before they learn about the fate of Naomi Misora. and true, Light's connection to all of these things could be a coincidence... but to L, these coincidences are the strongest thing he has to go on, given the slippery nature of a killer that leaves no physical evidence. and the fact that Light happens to be the son of the police chief only compounds the "well that's a coincidence" feeling. it might've been nothing before, when it was just a weird vibe... but at the very least, the Yagamis are sitting at the crossroads of a couple different events now.
    but I think the most conclusive nail in Light's coffin would be Misa Amane. Misa, who is almost certainly the second Kira, based on DNA evidence. Misa, whose personality profile matches the second Kira to a T. Misa, who went and found Light for no reason that she can remember, and who loves him because...? we don't know. she just does. and because Light handled the whole thing really sloppily due to being so blindsided, and having such a hard time regaining control over the situation... L also gets to observe that Kira 2 backs off in a way that indicates contact with Kira 1... right around the time that Light purportedly got himself a random model/actress girlfriend out of the clear blue nowhere. oh, and she happens to be Kira 2, almost without a doubt. by that point, too much has built up. Light's personality profile also aligns with Kira's, from everything L has seen, and when he finally imprisons Light as well, the killings do stop. really, the only thing making Light and Misa seem _innocent_ right now, is their 180° change in behavior. if it weren't for the killings starting again, L might even say that they were just acting really convincingly to save their own skins.
    but once the Yotsuba killings start, Kira's entire way of operating changes. they're definitely dealing with someone very different from before... which leads to the idea that the power has been passed. and yes, a lot of this is based on vibes and intuition from the beginning. they are lacking in hard evidence. but this is how they've been forced to understand things because of how the death note kills, without a trace. and it's not as though everyone else isn't perturbed by L's tenacity when it comes to Light... most of all Light, and his father. but I think L had the intuition right from the beginning, and circumstances have only convinced him more as time went by.
    I think it's fine to not be fully convinced by L's logic here... you wouldn't even be alone in feeling that way among the cast of the show. part of it is L profiling Light's personality and seeing too perfect of a match, especially because L deduced that Kira was similar to himself, and now he's feeling such a same-brained connection to Light, and not every person will find that to be equally compelling.

  • @EpicSubmarines
    @EpicSubmarines ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the reason L doesnt have a list suspects is also why he is so fixated on light, Yes there was no strong evidence toward Light being but there was also no evidence toward any of the other initial line of suspects, that list being those who were under investigation by Raye Penber. Light fit the profile that L created and through his interactions with him he believed that he was the only possible choice. L also hates to lose so the thought that his initial deduction that Kira was among that list is something he cannot bring himself to let go.

    I can see where you are coming from about not understanding why L is obsessed with thinking Light is Kira. However, at the beginning he was following a psychological profile that fit Light's personality and then when there are cameras in his house suddenly the killings of the type of criminal changed. He was the first person to meet Misa and she admitted she met him in the same area they suspected the second Kira. Not to mention when he lost his memories his personality completely did a 180. The Kira L was originally after fit the profile of a student that was idealistic and had connections to the police with high intelligence. I'm more surprised none of the other task force members really suspected him at any point up til now. While he is still sure Higuchi is currently the third Kira he has to constantly wonder if the original is going to come back which makes him wary of Light.

    There are lot of things pointing to light till he was in prison.
    Especially everything surounding Kira 2 (Misa) does not really add up without Light being Kira, in addition L has analysed Lights way of thinking and it matches Kira.
    Think it was in the last episode, where Light was analysing Kiras behaviour and has come to the conclusion that his way of thinking matches the pre-prison Kira.
    In addition let's not forget the Ray Pember story, where it is clear that Kira must have been followed by him in a specific timeframe, where he was watching only two families and out of these, there is only Light that could be Kira.
    Yes there is no hard Evidence, that's Ls biggest Problem, cause without Evidence he can't imprison Light, cause nobody would believe him, we have seen this many times.
    And as L questioned in this episode, the thinks Light gave up the Kira Power by himself and Light said it too, if he would have been Kira, it would have been his choise.
    L is 100% sure that Light is Kira, even if he sometimes tells otherwise and he is just searching for Evidence to proof it.

    You were saying that maybe L should have some other suspects but that's the thing. This case is so strange and since it's supernatural it's even harder to find suspects. No one is suspicious, but he had a tiny bit of suspicion on Light. L has been a detective that's easily been able to solve the worlds hardest cases and he's always right. Now it's the first time he doesn't have undeniable evidence to prove someone's guilty. Light being the only suspect no matter how small the suspicion makes L want it to be right, because he's always right so his only suspicion has to be right or it would mean L has been useless in this case and he'd never be able to solve it if it actually isn't Light. He needs it to be Light or else this case will turn unsolvable.

    Forgetting any actual incriminating evidence, L knows Light is Kira because Light is the only person L has ever met who is as smart as he is. Kira has been able to evade him for so long, and even forced L to take risks like showing his face to some people. In L's view, it literally _couldn't_ be anyone else because they would've been caught, and no one else is smart enough to force L into such positions.

    L's obsession:
    1. Kira is very smart and a student and someone with access to police files and lives in Kanto. That much was proven by L.
    2. The only person who ever matched L in a conversation, very similar yet different than L, he also looks like he may be hiding something.
    3. Raye penber was investigating him and his fiancé who used to work with L mysteriously disappeared and Raye was acting strange before death and had na envelope.
    4. Light seems too perfect and innocent.
    5. He was the only one except Matsuda, who was investigating Aoyama day before the second Kira said "I found Kira"
    6. Misa accused of being second Kira, her hairs and fibers were found on the Kira tapes.
    7. Light voluntarily giving up to L, to be jailed just after Misa is detained.
    8. Misa telling L she loves Light and she supports Kira, not knowing why she suddenly fell in love with Light. The pattern of the two kiras meeting and Light and Misa meeting while Mogi tailed them as well.
    9. Light and Misa suddenly changed personality in jail and killings started again.
    This plus various other nuances that L noticed made him strongly believe Light is Kira and even after he lost memory, that he is still Kira, only forgot.
    L has no definitive proof, but he has SO many leads, all pointing at Light, that it is overwhelming and even though someone else is killing now, L never gave up the idea of L being original Kira.

    8:00 I think there's two sides to L's position. With the way Misa and Light behaved during confinement, he's pretty sure they've been under the influence of some sort of memory manipulation. Add to that Raye's death, Misa's connection to the Second Kira tapes, and Light's connection to Misa, and it's pretty clear that they either were pawns of the real Kira, or were Kira themselves.
    L knows that, but he'd also like to believe that his friends were controlled, and not acting under their own will. Even as the most rational member of the team, he isn't an emotionless robot, and he'd like to have his cake an eat it too, in terms of being right about the duo, but his friends also being innocent.
    Unfortunately, he's right about Light needing to pass on the power to kill of his own free will, which means that Light was, on some level, in control of himself when he had the power. If L ever gets his hands on a Death Note and learns the rules, their gooses are cooked.
    8:30 L routinely cites his lack of other viable suspects as his main reason for suspecting Light. He's really hoping that figuring how how Kira's power is transferred will exonerate his friends, but he also sees the corrupt executives using the power for selfish reasons, and he has to know what that means for their mind-control defense.
    12:25 Lofi beats to study, snack on chips and do murders to.

    I work on automation... As an engineer i know that feeling when i see a machine failing... but you analyze the situation and there is only one thing that makes sense but there is no way to prove it because the machine only fails once in a while and when it does it happens suddenly and you can't catch it... no matter what either if it fixed itself by doing nothing or if you "fixed" it and it never happened again... you are just not 100% sure either way and it eats away at you... The one thing that is for sure... is that you WANT that conclusion you reached to be true... even if you eventually find a second possibility, that itch does not go away...

    I'll address the topic from a slightly different angle than others have done. L believing/thinking Light is Kira is also a matter of pride for L. Imagine it in a less extreme scenario. Let's say you're the greatest boxer in the world, and you get in the ring with someone whom you've never met but they are god-like at boxing, but you didn't see their face.
    Then, another guy comes out of nowhere and he is just as god-like as you and the mystery man. You went from being the greatest boxer in the world, to having that title be up for contention from not one, BUT TWO people. How? And after spending so much time searching for the mystery man, no one can even come close to you and the 2nd contender. Yall are literally boxing gods. So how?
    Unless the 2nd Contender is also the 1st Contender, the mystery man.
    L doesn't want to believe his skills are inferior to Kira's. But he also doesn't want to believe that Kira's skills are inferior to his. Light is the only person he's ever met that could rival his ability, maybe even surpass him. And it's unlikely that anyone else could come close to being on their level.
    So in L's mind, Light has to be Kira because there's no one else more worthy to be his rival. There's no one else worth defeating. It's not just justice and doing what's right that's driving him. It's about winning against the greatest enemy he has ever gone against and besting the greatest mind he has ever encountered aside from his own.

    My hangup on the show is how this is not how the world would react to the revelation that someone has the ability to assassinate any and every world leader. There would be no six man team while the rest of the world just bows to him. Hell, a Resident Evil style wall and nuke approach is more likely than that (it was figured out he was in the Kanto region of Japan immediately). Much more likely a worldwide coalition would quietly setup a blitzkrieg Chinese style quarantine, arrest, and stripping down of the entire region in order to find Kira and the weapon at use.
