The next episode the is the episode everyone waiting for 🎉😎
From the first episodes, the police and L take into account that Kira may be an esper, i.e. he may have super powers such as telekinesis, pyromancy, telepathy, etc. The basis of which is usually associated with genetics or the achievement of "the full potential of the human brain" but no one forbids taking taking into account magic or faith L considers the existence of shinigami from the first mention of them but in fact their existence conflicts with his worldview so although he takes them into account he will start to take them seriously only after he runs out of all alternative solutions no matter how stupid they are And we're talking about a man who imprisoned a man on the basis that the circumstantial evidence indicated he had less than a 10% chance of being Kira.
23:20 NOOOO, he's always a psycopath, it is not the death note who is at fault. Psycopaths show their true colours when they have the power to enact their pervasive nature, meanwhile they show a façade. In this chapter, you can notice the detail that Light doesn't react when his father is shot, he has no empathy, even in this "good form". He's just a rigid "self-righteous" person, typical of narcisistic personalities (I'm a Psychiatrist btw)
He will still be the owner unless he die no matter how many people touches it.
But yeah. Them all will see rem.

The reason L contemplated the possiblity of shinigami is because Light teased it before in those notes "Did you know shinigami like apples?"
Also when Misa mentioned them in the tapes meant for Kira
And the whole Kira case is already supernatural enough to make L thinks a shinigami exist won't be so surprise, like literally a guy living in Kanto district can kill every criminal around the world with heart attack and he can also control the time of death and their action before they die.
It's interesting with L because he's a logical genius so you'd think he'd never think it could be a God of death... But on the other hand he's a genius and that is the correct answer
@@GOTGames There are 3 instances making him believe Shinigami might be possible. Light mentioned them in his note about them liking apples, Misa mentioned them in her messages to Kira, and then while Misa was detained her hair moved by itself when Rem brushed her hair aside.
@@GOTGames quite interesting. I understand your concept but it seems like L can tell when someone is lying and when someone isn't even through mere teasing. a marvelous character!
Remember when L freaked out after hearing the Kira tapes mention Shinigamis? That's because he never considered that possibility until that point. But after that, he kept the possibility of them being a thing in the back of his mind.
It's so interesting that no matter what, L will approach every angle, really does show how smart he is
I'm surprised you're not gonna say how badass and precise Watari is despite his age
Goes without saying... We all knew he was the real MC
11:49
Light: "What is Rem?"
Re Zero Fans: "WHO is Rem?"
Rem is best girl.
Aside from the fact that the word shinigami has popped up twice in relation to Kira (once in the note light used to tease L, and second Kira mentioning them). No matter how logical you are, when you are faced with the fact that this mysterious killing power exists, you can't completely rule out the existence of shinigami
Yes you are spot on.
One rule of good story telling is to "not treat your audience like they are stupid", but sometimes things can slip past even the smartest viewers and it's still good to sufficiently explain certain things. Despite the memes, I personally find that I've seen anime do this right more often than wrong.
I actually think this episode could probably have used a very quick flashback to those two instances to make L's mention of "shinigami" less jarring.
Not to ramble too much but I just find it interesting.
I find Luke to be rather clever, and he's surprised us sometimes with things he's seen coming, but depending on what it is things can be easily missed / fall flat based on how much time the viewer takes between episodes and/or their familiarity with anime, so I'd say that often the right degree of "hand holding" can be less damaging than none at all.
@Kashi_Mochibean I don't think a flashback was needed there, to be honest. Luke's gripe was that someone as logical as L wouldn't even consider the existence of something supernatural such as a shinigami. However, the existence of a supernatural power has already been proven. In fact, L was the one who proved it. L would've had to already considered and accepted the possibility of something supernatural before performing his experiment with Lind L Taylor
That's why I don't think L mention of shinigami is jarring, considering they knew for a fact Higuchi was Kira, and he was clearly having a conversation with someone they couldn't see
This is what I've been saying.
You have L who you would think would never come to the conclusion that it's a God... But as it is the right answer it warrants that he would and could come to that conclusion as well
@@zahraa4149 Yeah, you're right. Though my point about him saying "shinigami" as being kinda jarring wasn't about him assuming something supernatural at all, but about him honing in on a specific answer. If he had shown a degree of uncertainty and said a few different speculations like "ghosts" or whatever, then I don't think anyone would really find this unreasonable at all, because who wouldn't be considering the supernatural answers at this point
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
Yes, Higuchi is aware that the places he's being sent to are potentially bait, but at this point, he doesn't have a choice. L & the gang have effectively put him in a corner. Its not necessarily that he's dumb to do what he's doing, it's that he's desperate & low on options.
That's what I said in the video, he doesn't have a plan B so he really doesn't have a choice. If he can think of a plan B he can go from there but there isn't one at least that he can think of
Whoever takes the death note isn't the person who gets the next ownership, bUT instead the person who holds it next RIGHT after higuchi dies or relinquishes his ownership of death note btw
12:45 Ill answer your question with a quote from Sherlock Holmes, "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." I think it is logical that L could believe that a shinigami exists simply because they have no other explainations.
Regarding L's logic you put in question. He operates on the principle: "If everything else is can be ruled out, the remaining -however improbable - must be the truth." That's (probably not entirely correctly cited) from Sherlock Holmes.
You must consider who L is investigating: Kira a person that apparently can - without any complices - kill people, that he never even has been physically close to, and this moments after he first knew they exist (something L knows because of Lind L Taylor from the first or second episode). That allready heavily seems to be a overnatural ability. So at least considering overnatural explanations is not illogical as long as you prefer theories that can be explained scientifically and look at the overnatural beeing or concept you're suspecting from a schientific ("I want to find out more about how it works") angle, which he does.
You also have to bear in mind, that Kira as well as Kira 2 independently mentioned the concept of shinigamis either publically or via inmates directly to L before they even met. And out of all the overnatural beeings and concepts they could have picked (gods, religions, mythical creatures, superpowers, magic, fantasy creatures and abilities, sience fiction tech, diseaces, the force) they both Kira and Kira 2 before they met each other (and therefore could have gotten their storys strait) chose to mention shinigamis - and only shinigamis. Even after they've met they didn't mention anything else.
Therefore if Kira is spotted talking to a creature that no one else can see, him talking to himself or this conversation happening inside his head can bee ruled out, him using technology to talk to someone else somewhere else can also be ruled out, then it is not unreasonable to accept that there in fact is a invisible creature thalking to him.
And calling it a shinigami is not unreasonable either, because of what I discussed in the paragraphs above. That does off course not mean that L now believes in japanese folklore, but he calls that creature shinigami because it is likely that this is, what the creature calls itself.
I think L caught on to the whole Shinigami thing because of what Light did earlier in the series with the experimental message's,
L, Did you know? Shinigami's love Apples
L can guess that Shinigami's exist because at the very beginning Light toyed with L saying: "L, did you know? Gods of Death love apples." This coupled with the obvious supernatural elements, such as Kira's power transferring, make the existence of Shinigami's not too much of a stretch for L.
"Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
If the answer makes sense... Then it must be right
12:22 The thing is, at this point the only conclusion is that something supernatural is going on. Both Light and Misa mentioned something about shinigamis before so that is all L has to go off of
5:20 You literally said "him" like very episode XD
Watching you react to this anime is like reliving the first time i watched it. I love it
The term Shinigami came up two times in this case. First time was Light teasing L with the riddle with solution "L do you know Shinigami love apples". And second time was with second Kira trying to find Kira - she mentioned "showing off each other´s Shinigami´s". Since the way Kira kills itself is supernatural, it´s not a far stretch for L to believe that Shinigami do exist when there is no other possible explanation.
And the scene with him getting away even though he was surrounded. My guess would be that they didn´t want to kill him - that would be only the last resort. They probably wanted to apprehend him because killing him might transfer the power of Kira to another person and they would be back at the square one. And only Wedy and Aiber had guns - with Aiber not wanting to use them as he hates guns.
I love the way L was cut into Misa's commercial like that at the beginning... like, oh, you think Misa is glamorous? well the truth is that her probably closest friends right now are a feral detective, who mainlines sweets and is chained to her boyfriend, and her boyfriend, who was/is(?) a serial killer with amnesia trying to solve his own case. tbh, props to Misa for still making it work.
as for L's conclusions... I think under most circumstances L probably wouldn't think of a shinigami being a viable theory, and even here, he may be half joking. or rather, he might be saying the obviously silly thing first, just to clear the air around mentioning stuff like that. I mean, there was the "L did you know? gods of death love apples" message already, and in Japan the idea of a shinigami would be about as ubiquitous as our idea of a grim reaper or something. so seeing Higuchi talk to himself like this, without anyone around that he could otherwise be communicating with... the options for what that could be are fairly limited. like, maybe he's experiencing some sort of split personality, or hallucination? but he's speaking in such logical terms, and when he says "let's make a deal" it feels like he's using a tool, rather than trying to negotiate with himself due to some form of psychosis.
but from the start, L has always known he was chasing a killer who had the ability to cause seemingly naturally occurring heart attacks from afar, without leaving a single trace of evidence. it's possible that there was never a chance of explaining that without accepting something never before seen on earth... this killing method has always been beyond what L thought he knew. even if the deaths had a medical explanation, L isn't a doctor or medical researcher, and might not have been able to understand the killing method if it was simply outside his wheelhouse. but barring that option, something supernatural might _have_ to be on the table, regardless of whether or not anyone likes that explanation. I think L might've been prepared for that from the beginning, just due to the situation. I think anyone who ever considered Kira to be real at all would've had to square with that... otherwise the killing method becomes impossible no matter how you look at it. a staunch realist would probably be forced to conclude that there is no killer, and any pattern in the heart attack victims is purely incidental... which sounds silly, given everything they've seen.
Remember it is VERY rare for anyone to have a gun in Japan. Police are trained to specifically to physically take down criminals AS A LAST RESORT; unlike... say, in the USA.
That 'intuition' line is even more hilarious in the German dub.
After Light says, he never knew, that L could fly a helicopter, L simply replies with "Me, too..." 😂
I like to think that maybe the reason L entertains the idea of shinigami, besides Kira's past references to it, is that he may have brushed with the supernatural or something like it in his decades of detective work before the series. The only thing that stands out to me is some background details in LABB Murder Cases, but they be spoilers.
About L being willing to accept there could be a shinigami:
It has been obvious from the beginning that Kira's power has to be something supernatural. When L first heard Misa's tape mention shinigami, he was shocked, because it's literally a folk tale, and you probably wouldn't expect those to be true.
But there is SOMETHING supernatural going on, and "shinigami" is all they have to go on, so it kinda makes sense that's the first thing he would say. He is sure that he has checked every technological way Hugichi could communicate from his car, so the only conclusion is that Higuchi is communicating with something that technology can't pick up. At the end of the day, L is not a scientist, he is a detective. And if you're the smartest person in the world, as Socrates said: "I know that I know nothing"; or in other words, it's foolish to assume you know everything.
Someone as smart as L knows that you can only solve a seemingly impossible mystery when you keep an open mind.
At least that's my only explanation for why L seems to accept some things so easily.
I also share your feelings about it seeming strange that L seemed so focused on Light, and you make good points about him being right because of how smart he is. Why doesn't he have a list of suspects? He himself explained at some point that there was just no one else who could be Kira. It seems weird at first that he would know that, but he did narrow Kira's location down to one area in Japan and then narrowed it down to people with possible access to police information, and no one besides Light apparently seemed cunning enough to be Kira.
Then after focusing on Light, maybe he deduced that it only made sense for Kira to stay ahead of the investigation like they did if they were close to it, which made it more likely to be Light? He just couldn't prove it.
I'm not completely sure but that's as much as I got. There are a lot of things L probably calculates in his head that we don't really see, which is why it sometimes seems weird that he knows certain things without always explaining how he knows it.
Sometimes I think that's a small flaw in the story's writing, but it would also probably slow down everything more if he explained every little thing, and it puts us more in the position of ordinary people like Matsuda who cannot comprehend the brilliant mind of L 😅
As a scientific thinker you wouldn't consider the supernatural but as a logical thinker, you would consider any possibility so long as there is evidence to back it up. To quote Spock, "When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth".
A true scientist is open to any possible reason
I love your two theories on the next episode, and cant wait to see you watch it lol.
Oh man can't wait for the next episode.🔥🔥🔥
You have every right for the hype of this cliffhanger. Higuchi is on the ropes.
This rule is probably one of the most confusing ones. Let me break it down for you:
"An individual with the eye power of a god of death can tell the name and life span of other humans by looking at that person's face."
Anyone who possesses the Shinigami eyes can see the name and life span of others (which we already know).
"By possessing the Death Note, an individual gains the ability to kill, and stops being a victim."
Those who possess the Death Note gain the power to control who lives and dies, and is no longer at the mercy of others, thus not being a "victim" anymore.
"From this point, a person with the Death Note cannot see the life span of other Death Note owners including him/herself."
Even with the Shinigami eyes, a person with the Death Note cannot see the life span of Death Note owners, including themselves (we already know this).
"But, it is not really necessary for the individual to view the life span of him/herself or other Death Note owners."
It's not really necessary to see the life span of Death Note owners because A) you don't need to know someone's lifespan in order to use the Death Note and B) the Death Note itself grants the power to manipulate the life span of others.
EDIT C) a human who uses the Death Note cannot increase their own life span, so knowing the victim's life span won't be very useful in that regard.
well said
Although it really doesn't need to be said, I still fell like adding to that last paragraph; C) a human cannot increase one's own lifespan through killing like a shinigami does (the almost certain reason the lifespan is seen at all, thus I think a significant reason "not necessary" for human to see)
Though that's probably just me being "captain obvious"
Appreciate you laying this out so well! ❤️
Ah, we’re here now.
BTW in Light’s case he maybe a sociopath more than a psychopath.
Psychopath is born with different brain functions. While sociopath is molded into being cold hearted after birth. By surroundings or shocking events.
Normally a logical thinking person would never believe someone can kill someone else with just a face and a name. Yet he deduced that to be the case in the 2nd episode, before verifying it with that fake 'L' on the news. After seeing it firsthand it became an undeniable fact. And a logical thinking person that knows this supernatural murder power exists wouldn't rule the existence of shinigami out, as being too far fetched. And since Light name dropped shinigami earlier in the story, I can see why L would be leaning towards that conclusion.
Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood are two of my favorite anime I have seen. The pacing will be different and the overall feel will be different. But it's another one where it's very hard to predict what will happen. I will definitely be along for the ride!
I am very much excited to watch it!
If “The episode” is what I think it is… Then I’m scared to see his reaction
8:29 I think that in this case you can say that people who are scared, afraid, who have not been trained in this, do shit when pressured.. I believe that is the case
The intro to this ep has me dead. L reacting to Misa's commercials and whipping out a banana at the end 😂.
In an upsidedown world, L would be top dog without the direct threat of Kira and dating Misa. I'd pay to see that universe.-
You say why would anyone watch that show, but we literally are watching an entire anime series about a DeathNote! 😂 As well although we know who Kira originally is in the same vein the general public doesn't know and the suspense would be wanting to know who Kira actually is too.
Love your content dude! Life has been a bit stressful lately but when I hear that intro it makes me feel just a little bit better. Keep up the good work.
❤️❤️❤️
15:15 yea these last few episodes is when it picks back up and builds a bit more tension for sure
People watched OJ Simpson fleeing from the cops. Sherlock is considered to be a logically minded person but he still has that famous line. "When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." Also, you would want someone who keeps their minds open a little so that they are able to consider all the possibilities. Like in this case, if L were to stick rigidly to only currently known and accepted information then he wouldn't be able to solve this case, right? An intelligent person realizes that there are many things they don't know.
i find it sad that people keep teasing a certain episode.. its almost like spoiling..
Spoiling without... you know... spoilers...
@@alexanderkraken7920 i mean it is kind of spoiling because now he expects something. wouldnt it be better if he got surprised by the episode?
There certainly are ways to "spoiler" without spoilering and this is one way.
@@Valkyraw nah. That's overreacting. Things happen in all episodes. They're only saying that this chapter happens something more important/awesome/etc
Builds expectative and hype? Sure
That's "almost like spoiling" Nah
@Alexander Kraken hyping a specific episode might make it easier for him to predict what's going to happen by putting 1 and 1 together, the events of the previous episode + the fact everyone keeps saying something huge will happen. Without the latter he would be less likely to be able to narrow down possibilities of what might happen soon and thererefore might be less surprised.
@@bluelink7286 Hype? Sure. But almost spoiling is pretty exagerated. Luke is always deducing what's gonna happen anyway, its not like our words make him take the chap different or anything like that
"Who would watch this?"
Four words: Geraldo & Al Capone's Vault
I was a teen in the 80s and I remember watching it. I was excited thinking I was about to watch something historic. Millions of people watched that night. I'll let you look up the deets on what actually happened that night.
I never understood this episode. Even if Matsuda is "keeping Kira's identity secret until the end of the show" - surely that's on the producers orders, in which case surely the producer and other members of the TV company already know the identity too. Especially as they're greedy enough to still want to have that information if Matsuda dies.
if i remember correctly L's iq is around 240-250 and Light's is around 210-220, something like that. they are both extremely intelligent. that explain the driving an helicopter "intuitively" thing.
To be fair, L is not as much as logical thinker as he is someone who considers every possibility. And then by process of elimination it doesn’t matter how far fetched it sounds, since there’s no other possibility it must be correct.
I love how you describe the first situation 26:40
YOU FORGOT "L Do You Know Shinigami Love Apples"
This episode is coming! One of the best episodes in anime history.

By the way, I'm CWW (commenting while watching).
All according to keikaru!
Hi Luke!
All episodes are awesome that why.
Luke is the only Misa fanboy I know. 😆
It depends on the logical level of thinking whether he believes in a "shinigami" or not...
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
Sherlock Holmes / Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
No matter how implausible something may seem... if that is the only option it is quite probably the truth... question is... how does that "implausibility" works? The fact that we do not understand something yet, does not mean it is not there and that it is not logical... People used to not know that there was oxygen in the air and we needed it to breath... Yet it was there... People used to think that empty space was nothingness... then it was Aether... then it was just air... now we know the exact composition and variations of it as well as the ranges of that composition that are beneficial or bad for us...
L can think of that as an option even if just as a "replacement" word for whatever it may actually means... and is using that word just plainly because that is how the letters introduced the concept at the beginning...
FUDGE I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!
2 min, ive just saw the last one

8:15 Yeah, it is hella sus for any company to provide random clients with access to their personnel files with not explanation, but especially for a talent agency which makes it's money connecting clients to personnel. He knows it's janky, but he's panicking and being hasty.
12:35 L is smart enough to be logical, but not succumb to the biases of Rationalism. "Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." --Sherlock Holmes
15:50 The eye power doesn't work against people who own a Death Note, but this doesn't protect them from being killed by a Death Note. This does have upsides, for example Misa identified Light as Kira, because she couldn't see his name.
18:51 It seems kind of crazy in the age of on-demand streaming and Tik Tok Shorts, but keeping people on the hook for as many commercial breaks as possible before drip feeding the reveal at the end of the hour was the television metagame once.

27:00 reminder that if you retrieve the entire notebook as the original owner you also retrieve your memories of it, rem couldnt make misa get her memories back because she only had a small piece of it, so rem herself had to explain everything to misa. you dont necessarily need to be told by someone. If you lost your memories from relinquishing the note it all comes back the second you get a hold of it again
so if light somehow retrieves the notebook he goes back to being the og light, without the need of a shinigami to explain it to him
That's not true... its a lot more complicated than that but it is explained later...

it literally happens in the next episode, he touches the death note, gets his memories back, then he makes misa retrieve her death note and all of her memories.
@@jbriggs06 i had to mention this because at 27:00 he seems to believe that the only way to get your memories back its if someone tells you about it, he probably thinks this way because of that previous scene were rem tells misa about the whole truth. But he forgot that in that same scene Rem mentions that because she only had Misa touch a small piece of the note she couldnt retrieve her memories, you need to touch the whole notebook for it all to come back
@@user-ud7gv3br5d but in the forest scene the mechanics behind that is explained... it isn't just as simple as getting the note back...
Even if hes a mass murderer at this point with no redeeming qualities I still feel bad for the new kira XD he got played hard
"Female Shinigami grose?" Naah, you wouldn't say that, if you've watched Bleach... :D
Who's Rem?
summertime render #day72
Odd that you say you know Rem is female when you _always_ called Rem by he/him pronouns exclusively lol. Just a bit funny
Man, just suddenly stopping the program before the reveal. The entire population watching this show has got to have experienced the worst blue balling in history.
Which episode are we talking about chat? The next one or... that other one?
Interesting that you think belief in a higher being is not something a logical person would have. Then again, the wisdom of God is folly to the world, so fair enough. It's possible that L could be religious; I don't know that it's stated anywhere, and it isn't really important to the story. Enough hints had already been dropped that L suspected the method of killing was supernatural, so the possible existence of shinigami wasn't really that much of a stretch, and it would actually explain a lot (e.g. the killing power coming from the shinigami, which is half true).
