Hi Kevin, I'm bragging a little here but I just had to share. My husband and I got married in 1971, he was in the Air Force and we bought a set of copper sauce pans in the Base Exchange. They are by Revereware and are lined with stainless steel. I've used them for 52 years and they are in perfect condition. Will surely out live me. Next to my husband, the best decision of my life. LOL 😂😂😂

My mother had great Revereware when I was growing up. She had a set of copper bottom pan. Unfortunately, the ones that were made before the brand went under are much lower quality. My sister has my mom's set.

I would have to tell you, Kevin, that I have bought several new kitchen implements only because I watch your videos, not least the big table top, Apple Corer and peeler, cookie dough sized scoops, a microplane zester, the gel oven gloves and even a medium sized food processor! To name but a few and that includes your recipe book. I’m now even considering a smaller kitchen aid mixer 🤦‍♀️.
I think it might be well past time for you to make yourself an affiliate to some of these manufacturers, especially Amazon, as I am pretty sure they are making money off the back of your cooking preparation methods 😆. Always love your videos and your recipes - the most elegant, calming, mindful and healthy experiences of my week, so my thanks are always with you. By the way, absolutely loved your new silver tea and coffee service. What a great present and a great buy❤.

Hi Kevin! You are the only person from whom I've ever been able to learn about cooking. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this! You aren't a bossy boots and you are so natural with your responses to what happens and it gives me confidence to watch you. Yes, I can cook a bit, but I've always felt afraid of it. I look forward to your videos so much. The fact that you don't just focus on one thing is what I really love, plus you love animals and flowers. I've only watched your vids about 2 weeks, but today I'm getting a knife sharpener that hopefully will work well. I'm in Canada and right now and the USD costs about 25 cents on a CAD, so that's the pits. But we do have a pretty good imitation of your Amazon so I use it quite often. Today's show was interesting again. Thank you so much for all that you do ♥♥♥

Appreciate this kitchen tool presentation, tips and critiques.
..I'm also a big fan of Wusthop knives.
.. Love my B&D extra wide 8 slice toaster oven. Use it daily.
..Prefer using 'glass-bowl' high speed blenders.
    ..I didn't notice a submersion blender, a tool I can't live without.
Simply cannot bring myself to purchase a non-stick pan.
Regretfully, I'm unable to make liquid dough tortillas in my stainless steel pans. Life can be tough at times.
I should really get around to upgrading my 1980s Cuisinart food processor.
Appreciate the Cuisinart demonstration and critique.
Thank you Kevin Lee for this fantastic video.
Much love to Avery, Binky, and Goldie.
Beautiful days Kevin and Mr Fox.
    Take care, and be well.

Kevin fans…Today I made his chickpea brownie base recipe and turned it Keto.
1 can drained, rinsed and patted dry chickpeas
    3 jumbo eggs
    1 cup allulose
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp iodized salt
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp maple flavoring
    For topping
One 7 oz bag of Lilys butterscotch chips
Melted with 2 tsp irish butter
Preheat 350 degree oven and parchment line 8” x 8” pan (I use Reynolds wrap nonstick reusable)
Mixed eggs, salt, favorings & allulose in a vitamix for 1 minute.
Add remain ingredients mix one more minute
Pour into lined pan and bake for 30 - 35 minutes
Take out and let cool for about 10 minutes and the spread butterscotch/ butter blend over the cake bars. Once throughly cooled, cut into about 20 bars or 40 petit fours.
    Delicious!
    THANK YOU KEVIN!

I love my Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Ovens. No, they aren't the highest quality. However, if you're just learning to cook, they are perfect. Only use silicone or wood spatulas. Metal spoons will scar the enamel.

    • @russbear31
      @russbear31 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Lodge recently redesigned their Dutch ovens and they're now 100% American made. They also now come with an eye-watering Le Creuset price tag: A 5-quart oven is about $260. Ouch!
I have an old Lodge Dutch oven like yours that I bought years ago for about $40. I still love it. They were cheaper because the iron was forged in Tennessee but the enamel coating was applied in China. The new Lodge Dutch ovens are expensive because the company invested millions on several Italian-made kilns that allows them to do the enamel work in Tennessee, bypassing China all together.

Thank you, Kevin! Your videos are always so full of good stuff. Lest people think they have to buy good kitchenware new, I found a trove of old-logo Revere ware 25 years ago in a thrift store, use it every day, and it still looks new. Envy overtook me seeing your Le Creuset assortment. I wonder if people know that Le Creuset quietly has a 99-year warranty. They have replaced two of my pans in 40 years-- for free. Thank you also for helping me solve my toaster oven dilemma. I feel confident now, using your link!

4:57 Hi Kevin! Just the person to end some confusion here. Serrated knives I had been told by a fellow who sharpens kitchen knives for a living once told me that you should not sharpen serrated knives as you could damage the teeth. What is your answer? I have a complete set of Chicago cutlery, bought many years ago, all serrated and they cut as cleanly and quickly today as they fid when I first got them 20+ years ago.
Those are english muffins you make. Crumpets my mum made and they had the holes on both sides, had a tangy taste to them that english muffins doesn't have. Also crumpets are thinner and english muffins are thicker and cut in half. You don't need to cut crumpets.

Hi Kevin, as I age, heavier things to cook with are more difficult for me. I use Saladmaster. I found that liquid becomes alkaline because titanium makes water alkaline. Titanium is the metal. No alloys, so no leaching. Medicine uses titanium for legs, arms, and joints so people aren’t getting amputations, as much. There are recipes that are great because like the spaghetti, the steam does the job of the boiling water, so not as much water is needed, and walking from the stove to the sink is unnecessary, so I am no longer risking burns as someone older.

Great tip about the Dutch ovens needing to have a flat bottom, not the rounded one that gives you less contact area with the hotplate. I'm shopping for a good one now, so this was a really useful thing to consider.

They say, "Once bitten, twice shy" and that applies to my view of Dutch ovens. I made soup in one, and it was on a flat-top stove, and the darn thing cracked half-way through. Yeah... it wasn't a pretty sight. Knives? Oh... I buy a new set every year, it seems. Next time, I'm going to buy individual knives to make up my own set... of higher quality items. Finally, I have needed a stand mixer for years... decades in fact. Hopefully this will be the year. Thanks for sharing and offering advice, as always.

My semi-retired 30+ year old Cuisinart food processor has a special encore career following purchase of a newer model. I home cook food for my dogs! Started doing this about 12 years ago, recipes are from a certified canine nutritionist, the ingredients are mostly organic (some of the veg and fruit from my garden). So the superannuated Cuisinart now earns its counter space by processing ingredients for home-prepared canine meals. New Cuisinart for people food prep, former for canine food prep. Now I just need more counter space!

Kevin, in a day & age when some companies design products with the full intention of them becoming less functional in a couple of years so that people will need to purchase the next version (i.e., some cell phones) while some solid reliable things are at risk of discontinuation (i.e., landline phones), it's especially refreshing to hear about these tools designed "to last a lifetime" and still readily available. Thanks for featuring/talking about these gems.

I love to use my ZWILLING knives. .hubby and I bought them piece by piece through many years....
Wustoff is excellent too, but we were gifted with a Zwilling knife and so just stayed with the brand....
    Thanks for your presentation 👍 😊 ❤

Kevin-the Instant Pot makes perfect hardboiled eggs. I like mine soft on the insides so 2 to 3 minutes on high with a resting period of 5 minutes then into an ice cube bath. My daughter does 10 minutes then immediate pressure release/ice bath.

I agree, they peel so easily when done in the IP. I put your rack in and one cup water. I do six eggs at a time at 4 minutes on high.

I enjoyed seeing your cooking tools and your explanations about them. I never realized how heavy Le Cruset cookware is until I saw them at a store. I recently got a Vitamix and Im glad I did because I always wanted one. They used to be very expensive many years ago but now you can get them on sale.

Kevin, I’m from Northern Ireland. You seem to bake mainly with granulated sugar. We here bake with castor sugar which is a lot finer. Are cakes a better texture done with granulated sugar? I adore watching all your programmes. Thank you Kevin. Isobel Walker

I bought a set of Wusthof knives in Germany in 1980 and they are still going strong. Worth every penny I payed for them. It pays to spend money on certain kitchen and cookware.

My ex bought me vitamix back when Costco 1st started carrying it. If you are willing to put in the time and fun learning about all it can do - then it is really worth the investment there is not a tool like it!

I agree that investing in a Le Cruset stock pot is a very wise choice. As well as a food processor, a good blender and all your other utensils. It took me a while to collect all of these but worth every penny. Good choices!

Very helpful episode, Kevin. This is particularly helpful for someone who is just starting to equip a kitchen. I so agree that spending more for quality always pays off. We have all been there with cheap products that didn’t last. It is an investment. Start with a few basics and build your collection. Thanks for giving us the benefit of your expertise.❤️
