      Actually, it is a cool design that has very few parts. Nice that it does not use screws.washers to hold on the petals and no separate backing plates. Those little screws can be a pain. Now this design has 8 parts, and 4 of them are petals. Other designs have twice as many parts, with 2 less petals, (unless duel state type petals).
      We are talking single digit numbers man. lol

    Thanks for the video! I already had the gas tank and carb off so I had the reeds out by the time this video was a quarter through. A screwdriver from one end works just fine for me, maybe something about your specific set? I'm also on an older bike so maybe it's already "worn in" enough to make removal easy

      You are welcome! It might have just been my specific reed cage IDK.

    It surprises me that V-force did not make one corner different so you could not snap the frame on upside down. If you look at the angle of your carb into the intake, and know most of the rushing are will flow around the outside of the corner, you can see that vertical divider leaves a small hole on the outside to funnel some back to the inside for even distribution on the petals,----just in case they change the locations of the part numbers.
    I have to check mine out when I dig into it, but if you can delete that stock spacer, you will gain power. I have spaced those out to mellow out power, and I don't plan on using it with this reed on this mellow mid range YZ250, (sans some kind of clearance issue).

      Interesting. I didn't consider and may have to look into that. Thanks for the comment!

      Thank you! 🙂 In years past I always just got the whole new reed cage, it's easier, comes assembled with new reed's and you just slap it on the engine, piece of cake but replacing just the reeds is much cheaper, like $100 cheaper.

    So many parts. What do they do?

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They meter the air/fuel from the carb into the engine, like intake valves on a 4 stroke

      thank you man whent you know is time for change because my look nice but can t see little tine light in the couner

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcialquinones5683 It is pretty normal to see a little bit of light. If the petals are not damaged on the edges, (cracks, fraying, de-lamination), they may still be OK. There is a spec limit to how big the crack of light can be (at the ends of the petals), but if the petal has no other damage than a bit of warping, you can flip them upside down for a bit more life on a budget. It usually closes the gap a bit, maybe all the way. A tiny gap closes quickly on the down stroke of the piston.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MonkeyButtRides I am not sure "meter" is the right word, since they do not really control the amount of flow, but keep it from flowing backwards on the piston down stroke. Unlike the valves on a 4-stroke, (where you can boost flow with a supercharger), the reed valves are controlled by pressure on both sides of the petals, where the valves are mechanically controlled. Neither really Meter the flow, (in my estimation), but allow it to happen when needed.
      A better example of "metering" would be the gas mixed with the air by the carb jets and throttle position. But the goal for performance is to get as much of that metered mixture into the cylinder as you can. :)

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      @EarthSurferUSA that is an excellent explanation, and yes, jets are a much better example of metering thanks!

    Friends dont let friends dont use V force, the cheap plastic reeds kill engines and they wont warranty your parts , then they blame your engine for damaging their part

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've been running them literally for decades on different bikes never had an issue and they really clean up throttle response
