    Thanks for the update. Only reason I'm in Subic is the water. I see the pool in your background, but it's not the same. We differ on many of opinions. Of course we're always free to move.

      Thanks for watching and chiming in damncars. I appreciate it. Thats why I say to each their own.
      For me , I just don’t see the advancement here compared to Clark, and various places in Thailand and Vietnam. Even Siargao rebuilt so quick after being destroyed by Odette. I just don’t see it here. I agree about the pool not being the same but I like to swim so I need a pool for that but give me an ocean with cleaner water and I’m all over it. :)

    Lived in Subic Bay the last 12 years and 2 years in AC, I prefer the beach, and do agree AC is the better place to visit, and I do!

    Thanks for the actual situation George. To begin with, following Pinatubo - SBMA was miles ahead of Clark, mostly due to Richard Gordon's work on getting volunteers to look after the base (also the US Navy had done a lot to clean up following the eruption of Pinatubo where as the US Airforce had deserted Clark). Personally if I had the choice it would be Subic because it is by the sea despite the disadvantages (especially rainy season).

      Thanks for the input and for watching Ray. Every time I leave for down south or go to Thailand or Vietnam and come back to subic bay I see the difference not in a good way here and I’m bored. It may just be me but not enough has been put into the subic area since the navy days and the base has gotten run down.

    I currently live in Olongapo..but I really like AC overall. I definitely use Clark airport for all my travels, even long before the new terminal was completed. And like most, I love the beaches, but I do not need to live near them to enjoy them. My next jump will be to San Fernando area due to its centralized location. Short hop to Manila, VA, Embassy. Short commute to Clark Airport for travels and an hour from Subic/Olongapo if I ever feel I need to visit again. Plus, they have a new airport in the works in Lubao (Pradera Verde) next to a large events, racing and watersports park. Small aircraft though, but that's what I enjoy, general aviation and sports flying.

    An old Barrio steamer myself (once upon a time). Living part-time in Samar now. If I had to choose between Subic and Clark... Subic hands down! #tropicshade

      Samar is a pretty place but not sure how many expats are there. Maybe you could elaborate. I hope you’re enjoying. The barrio is not what it once was an traffic on national Hi-way is a mess until the ByPass is built around Barretto but sadly that’s probably 4-10 years away. Thanks for watching.

    Interesting. Being by the water but only an hour from Clark is the big attraction of Subic. I think it depends on how much of your time you spend in the Philippines. If you are just on vacation for a few weeks but live in another country like I do in Japan, Subic is better. However I would imagine that if you live there full time it is limited and Clark Angeles is better. I think as a combination they are the best you will find in the Philippines, due to beach and infrastructure.

      19. Malolos-Clark Intl Airport train from Clark to Bulacan and is part of North-South Railway to Laguna is being constructed making travel to Manila only an hour and completion date is 2025.

      SM Central & SM downtown are in Olongapo not SBMA and White Rock is in Subic so I’m not sure of your point. Inflatable island is considered Olongapo. Those places make up part of greater Subic Bay, which is fine but then you can’t restrict things not in Clark as they’re in the greater Angeles area. My comparison was Clark/Angeles vs. Olongapo/SBMA. It’s a comparison of areas. It’s fine if you think Subic Bay is better and want to promote it - it’s your opinion. I promote both areas but wanted to do a true comparison.
      if you’re being honest, I think you’ll have to admit Clark is far more advanced and modern than SBMA. Just say’n !

    I was same era, there, USN, back 85-87' in /out of Subic a lot, on the Knox, out of Yoko .. Back as a Merchant, then MSC late 90's - 2006 .. I haven't been back since 2011' .. I wasn't liking AC "lost it charm" (lol) .. Always went back & forth, between Barreto and AC .. Olongapo memories (nostalgia) kinda' felt like "home" ..

      That’s why I came here (My Navy days) . I had looked at the Caribbean and Central America including Dominican Republic but SE Asia appealed more to me with the wife from the PI. Thanks for watching.

      @@GeorgesAllaboutthePhilippines I wouldn't doubt' something comes out of the Duterte - Marcos feud .. I recall Duterte was Trump's "little Buddy" .. and "China friendly" .. and a guy name Marcos .. "Who want's to be a Dictator" lol ("doomsday laughter) .. Most "in GOV's" got left holding the Pandemic Inflation Bag and got kicked out worldwide .. I think Duterte was popular, right, and people remember the good ol' pre Pandem Inflation days ..

    Olongapo seems to have advanced to a certain point then just stalled. I still have family there. I prefer the Subic area rather than Pampanga. I like being near the bay. Like you I wont swim there. Not only the dirty water, have you ever seen the sharks?

    • @GeorgesAllaboutthePhilippines
      @GeorgesAllaboutthePhilippines  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good comments Dave but Subic Bay to include Olongapo and SBMA have not progressed enough in my opinion and the old base has declined further and further. Clark seems to have their shit together. I love looking at the water but I repeat there are so many better options even San Antonio and Bataan but if I really want the good water I go south to the Visayas area or Vietnam and Thailand. I’m spoiled from many days in the Caribbean. It would help the area if the Bypass would get done around Barretto but that is at a minimum 4 years out and 10 realistically. There seems to be no hurry while traffic gets worse in the area.

    • @dave-d-grunt
      @dave-d-grunt หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ yes Clark has done great! Very well developed. SBMA just seems it hasn’t done well. It seemed to start well then just petered out. I thought when they were talking about opening Cubi to international flights that might help. But that seems to have faded too. The Visayas is nice.

    As much as AC has it's problems i can go anywhere, get anything and if i want to go to a nice beach they are not too far away and nice air-con bus liner takes me into Manila or anywhere for a pocket full of coins if i feel like a change. Crime is a thing yes but use your common sense where you live and when and where and what time you go like any city. I'm in a nice condo with everything for a great price if it's too hot or raining whatever i have it all and if i don't there's 7/11's 24 hours or grab's anywhere for usually no more than 120p cheaper than trikes.

      WiFi is not good and cell service by both major carriers are non existent. I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Go to Vietnam and Thailand and you’ll see a major difference not just in the city but nation wide. You’re welcome. Olongapo is a pretty major city here. Just say’n !
