Out of all the barn door diy, yours is one of the best because it looks really really good with minimal tools. I've seen some look nice but they use like 8 or 9 different tools the average person didn't have. Great great job!
I cannot thank you enough for making This video. I’m almost finished making my door and it looks amazing. It was such a good first project for a beginner (like myself). I love watching DIY videos showing what women are capable of doing. Thank so much!!
Thank you for this video. We were going to buy a premade one for $460 and we ended up making this same door for about $180 (plus the finishing gun, and extra clamps that I can use again later). I didn't do the middle ones as I find the surrounds look a little more modern and simple. Only thing different were the sizes of wood in Australia. 19mm Ply + (3) 86x19x2400 pine, (3) 42x19x2400 (reduced from 42mm to 38mm so it was flush)
This is fantastic! Had almost the exact same thing in mind but just a single panel door. Nice to see how good it could turn out. (As long as I don't screw it up.)
Awesome work-through, thanks for putting this out there. I used this to make 2 of the same style doors, and due to cost I just used the off cuts from the plywood, which were more than enough. FInal dimensions 42x84 each. Plus saved a lot of money!
She’s so adorable and saved me so much money!!! Just picked up 3/8” thick 8ft. X 4ft. and will frame it with 2”x1” so I can use the door hinges from Home Depot ($3ish for a pair). With number being so expensive this route is cheap! Oh yeah, and Home Depot gave me a discount for having damaged plywood. Love you Home Depot!! And lastly, love this lady, too adorable can be my sister ☺️
@@EternalHarvestDecor I actually finished my project and I cannot believe how easy it was! It was my first time doing something like this and it came out so beautiful. Hi, LOVE your vids and talent 🎉🙌🏻👏🏼 Question: If you were making a barn door situation for a 12’Wx8’H (maybe 9’) space that had to be attached to a CEILing😬 #noheader Where would you begin to source such a project?
Thanks for this simple build. I want ones 9 feet high (by 8 ft wide/or two 4 foot wide doors) so I'll cut panel pieces according and put the mouldings also on the back of the doors, covering the seams.. Ps I couldn't find link for recommended trim.
I’m doing the same 8ft double door but in the garage to store my table and miter saw!! Love this idea and it’s so easy and hides the imperfections! I can’t believe I didn’t come up with this idea. Thanks to this lady she saved the day!!
Thanks so much for this video. I have limited space so I have limited tools and this makes a nice looking door with minimal tools. I built 3 wooden lockers for my historic firehouse and was looking for easy way to build doors. Engine 47 thanks you!!
Really great video. You are so meticulous and the only person to actually use caulk. I was wondering if you design the inside of the bathroom door the same way as the bedroom side.
door looks fantastic....next time you paint in the garage ya might want to cover other things to protect from over spray.....I noticed your daughters black Jeep was turning white. lol
I appreciate that! Not going to lie sometimes the shorty shorts and tanks are needed it gets crazy hot some days in the shop so 🤷🏻♀️ haha it was 102° yesterday. I appreciate you following!
Yeah k, but also, y'know, maybe thanks for the great build and instructive video, regardless of how you wanna act or what you wanna wear, which by the by isn't really anybody else's business, or at all what the video was about.
Liked detailed explanations 👍 I looking for lighter door for closets is there any way we can make hollow core 1 panel door like this any suggestions what would be used. Nothing is available in market now a days must be done diy.
Great work! How much did just all of the wood cost? I framed a corner in my cellar and am building a small sliding door for entry. Also the edges were a lot easier your way, thanks
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched and shared this video. I have a window 40 inches wide and 65 inches tall. I want to do 2 doors for it. Can I still use the wood you suggested or do I have to go to 1/2 inch plywood. Will it be too heavy for a window that doesn’t go to the floor. Thank you so much for this. Crossing fingers you answer this before I go to hardware store tomorrow.
Oh this is a tricky question, will you hang it the same way? If so, you could do either thickness. I did 3/4” because most doors are that thick and the hardware works for that thickness. So just check your hanging hardware and make sure it works
using this as inspiration to make double barn doors, thank you! I'm using similar dimensions to you, and my home depot only had 1.25" finish nails as the minimum length, do you think I'll run into any issues? or should I be getting 3/4" finish nails instead?
I do too, Brandi. Not everything needs to be unnecessarly complicated or overbuild. Of course it all depends from the surrounding style, but there can be Beauty in very simple geometries and lines that complement another piece instead. And that doesn't make them any less outstanding than the other. And that door, will stand out whatever it's surrounded by.
I just saved the whole process in my Instagram highlight reels. I just hung one in my daughters room. I don’t have a TH-cam video on this process yet. Each track is a little bit different, usually the check comes with the measurements that you will need to figure out where the rail should be installed. You will need to install a header board above the track which is just a one by six pine screwed into studs, this helps with the weight of the door.
Hi! Wanting to make this door for a storage closet. Not wanting to hang it, instead having it open out like a traditional door. What do you suggest doing differently?
That would require a different style frame. Lowe’s and HD sell pre made hollow core unfinished doors for less than you could build them, maybe e look into those
I learned by doing. I’ve built a lot over the years now. The back of this one is solid just a piece of plywood painted. But you could route a design into it too
Well you can over hang the molding on the bottom but that would be seen from both sides. you may have to build it with two sheets of plywood cut horizontally and the seam covered by the trim. But it would be visible from the back side. you could also use 1x material and do a slatted look and get the length you want. I have a few other barn door options you might want to check out. Thanks for watching
I saw the question about what you did with the back side of the door but I was wondering how you open the door from the back side if it is just flat? Could you also trim out the backside the same as the front side or will the door be too thick? Is there a handle you can add to the back?
You can totally put a handle on the back side as well. You could trim it out but if you do that I suggest using a thinner center piece of plywood, like .25-.50” thick or using thinner trim. Ideally the door should be 1.25-1.75” total in thickness. I have just used a router to create an inset handle on the backside before too. Just some ideas!
Not in this case and not always no. This was going on a bathroom door so my customer wanted a solid back. I also don’t do the backs of closet or pantry barn doors. But if you wanted a design you could route one out or add 1/8” pieces to the back
I was thinking about doing this but just for a normal door. I was thinking I'd overhand the face trim on each side, and then just rip the length on the sides of the door. Just worried the seam will become visible over time...
quick question i really like your video, i really want to make the door but i was wondering if there’s any reason why you don’t run a 3/4” trim under the 1x4 boards
Not sure I understand where you wanted to see trim? I wanted the shaker style look so adding anymore trim would detract from that. Hope that answers you questions
Eternal Harvest Decor we did it. First time ever doing any kind of wood work. Thanks for the help. The painting was by far the hardest part. I’ll have to dm you a pic
No this was for a customer between her master bath and master bd not the toilet room. No need for locking in this instance but I can see needing one in other situations and they do have hardware you can add.
Hi Did you work your wood at all with jointer and planer? I build doors with pine panels, and all my doors end up not laying flat, turned up on each side a little. Do you know how I can stop this and have my doors lay flat Thank you
Hi there! Pine from big box stores tends to come home wet. I take a moisture meter with me to the store if I buy from there. Otherwise I go to a lumber yard where I can be sure the lumber is dry. I do have a jointer and planer, but I did not use them for this door. You can get a moisture meter and buy flat DRY pieces and that will help a ton. Also make sure your pieces are as flat and straight as possible by looking them down from the end like a telescope.
Dang! I accidentally deleted your last question! So yes the short answer is 1x2 is actually 3/4”x1.5” the milling process makes them smaller then listed. Hope that helps thanks for the question 🙌🏼
Could I get away with 1/2” ply instead of 3/4”? I have a 50” opening so my door will be a full sheet. Thinking 1/2” to save money and reduce weight. Thoughts?
Yeah that wouldn’t be a problem just may have more chance of bowing. So if you do go that route make sure you get it into a flat surface right when you bring it home and get the frame built and on ASAP. Then let cure laying flat after paint. Sometimes they get paint in them and people lean them up to dry and the bend so just keep that in mind. Good luck!
@@EternalHarvestDecor So then this flat side back was on the bathroom side, right? I'd hate to think it was showing in the bedroom like that (just an opening with a flat panel behind it). is the trim necessary? I'm going with the birch and the poplar for the border, but do i really need the trim too? What are your thoughts?

Any suggestions for adding a few inches in width and height for a sliding door in this style? 4'X8' plywood doesn't allow for my overlap.
Well you can over hang the molding on the bottom but that would be seen from both sides. you may have to build it with two sheets of plywood cut horizontally and the seam covered by the trim. Can i have the link for the hardware you use? Thanks
I didnt hang this one, but here is some hardware I usually suggest to customers, just be sure to get the length doubled for the width of your door. So a 3 ft door would need a 6ft rail. amzn.to/3nHVeGn
How much did all the wood cost ?
So did you put the 1/4 on both side of the plywood
I didn’t with this one, but you could do that!
Top and bottom trim should be first and side trim last. Thus hiding the exposed end of top trim.
I actually wanted the exposed trim and the top and bottom rather then the sides that’s why I did it this way
Visually I like the top and bottom pieces longer vs short in the center of the door pieces
What is the width of your door? What if someone needed a wider with for a wider opening?
It’s customizable so you can just widen the back ply wood and adjust the face frame to fit.
Impressive!
Why did you not create panels on the reverse side?
Customer only needed one side and a solid white door was fine for the back
what kind of nails are you using and how long are they
DaEverything1 hi these are 18g 3/4”
Parabéns... você e muito inteligente.
