  • Following on from a successful static steam test on the 6th August 2022 the society raised steam once again at Minehead on the West Somerset Railway on the 28th September 2022. Despite the heavy rain and lack of a cab roof spirits were not dampened as 6024 moved around the station limits.
Thanks to the West Somerset Railway for allowing the movements.
Now we have a job list to finish the locomotive and then we can start running in.
To find out more please go to www.6024.com or even better why not join club 60-24 and find out what's going on before anyone else.

Remember travelling behind this awesome beast on a railtour some years ago the sound of it as it struggled up Crockett bank on leaving Swansea was amazing it nearly stalled on the wet rails but managed to get it's footing it was a wreck at Barry scrapyard but looks awesome now this loco has a special connection with south Wales thanks to Mr dai woodham

What a absolutely beautiful engine, back in my trainspotting days back in the 50s this engine was shedded at 81A Old Oak Common, I am a pensioner living now in Australia and I know for sure if I ever win the big one in lotto, there will be big money going to the maintainenance and upkeep of this loco, and congratulations to the owners of this splendid loco.

Nothing like the sight and sound of a double chimney king at full chat, well done and thanks to all involved. Looking forward to see the return to traffic 👍

Grand achievements are often marked by low key events. How apt that the English weather joined in!!
I hope all concerned with this accomplishment had the party they so thoroughly deserved in this
preservation of "the cream of steam".

Despite its rudimentary appearance it is a wonderful sight to see the old girl moving once again. Well done to the Society

Got an old Hornby model of 6024. A pleasant surprise as I never realised until today she still existed and a runner!

It's pretty weird seeing a steam engine of this size without a roof

How far can this loco go. Is t it too heavy for the line

@@martinbradshaw7877 The GWR used a route availability system based on a colour circle painted onto the cab - the colours used for the system included Blue, Yellow, and Red, in ascending order of weight. The Kings were in a class of their own, Double Red, and were originally restricted to a small number of GWR routes from Paddington. These included the routes Birmingham via Princes Risborough and Bicester, Bristol via Bath/Bristol Parkway, and Exeter via Newbury and Westbury.

@@TheOneKEA I know all of this. My point was the WSR. They have weight restrictions that prevented Raveningham Hall from being used. I do know all about route availability. I think you misunderstood my point
