My mom used to roll her left over dough out thin and put it on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar, cut it into random shapes and bake it. It was a special treat for us kids while we were waiting for the pie.
I love listening to your videos Cheryl ..no showing off just simple instructions and gorgeous food with a wee bit of a blether too ..Fantastic ! Keep up the grand work .
Thank you. I just happened upon your channel. Appreciate you taking the time to show all of the ingredients in the beginning and the detailed step-by-step process. Thank you for taking the time to film, edit, and share your talent with all of us.
I would have made another pie and eaten two instead of just one, no way would I have thrown away any pastry or filling...... Great recipe, certainly on my list of what meals to make when we can finally have family and friends over for tea.
Great recipe, use to have these when I was at school they put a slice of tomato on top, divine. Your accent is great very soothing and comforting, all the best.
You know I learn something every day from you I've never seen pastry made like that they look delicious can't wait to make them and BTW you've taught me to make gorgeous lentil soup after 40 years of trying to master it Thankyou 💐
Going back over your past recipes I found this one. Can’t wait to try it as like you we like to have some meat-free meals. Will be sure to let you know my results.
Wonderful! We had this about 3 nights ago and it was delicious. Because of the quantities involved I chose to use a larger foil pie dish as we only had 2 of the type you used. I made a couple of misjudgements. 1) If I use the same foil dish again, I'll add about 25% more filling and 2) I made the cheese sauce a bit too runny so it ran round the dish. However, we divided the pie into 4 and added some of the leftover cheese sauce with just some peas. It was delicious and light enough for my wife to finish her serving. The other remaining quarters are wrapped in clingfilm in the freezer for another day. Thanks very much Cheryl.
I've only recently found your postings! Everything looks so good and well prepared! Don't make pastry these days but always have blocks of puff, shortcrust and filo sheets in stock! I use the filo to make mini cocktail versions of your recipes ... go so well with wine and beer! Now retired I have plenty of time to cook from scratch and your recipes lend themselves to using whatever ingredients one has to hand! Thank you!
They look absolutely amazing, and a really ingenious way of getting the pastry into the tons I'll have to remember that, thanks so much for sharing this recipe 👍👍
Hi, Cheryl! I just wanted to report that this went over very well last night. I put a couple slices of chopped ham in it (because I had it and didn't want to waste it!) and Mum liked it so well she had seconds. Rare, that! Thank you so much again for the great idea!!! Jon
l just made a batch of this, l call them cheese cubed potatoes, and put then in a small cassarole dish and bake them, and then half way through l put more cheese on top and bake till golden and bubbly.. but in a pie sounds interesting, will have to try this as well. We use this as the potatoes in any dish. I just changed it up for our Canadian Thanksgiving, instead of mashed, l made these, and so so good.
oh I'd have made that extra pie with the leftovers .. would have done a lunch.. they did look lovely right enough.. never tried doing homemade pastry before
I just found this channel the other day when TH-cam suggested your steak pie recipe.(I can't wait to try it) I subscribed right away. I must say your videos are as fun to listen to as they are to watch. Thanks for putting the time in to make such good content.
This looks yummy. I do have to take issue with not taking your milk outta the fridge when making white sauce. Cold milk, hot roux, no lumps.......my milk always comes straight out of the fridge when I make a cheese sauce, and honestly I can't remember a time when I had lumps in my sauce. Nice to see you making your pastry too. I'll bet hot water pastry would work a treat in these too.
Hi , this is the second dish i have made of yours now ... Used a 9 inch pan , same one as the corn beef pie and give it a pastry top .... So simple and delicious...It was a winner with the kids ... Thanks again
Hiya :) These we're brill! The pie pans that I used to have were knackered...So I bought new ones....there were mega cheap from Lakeland and they've been amazing x
That was wonderful. I am a naive cook and the video is good. I take it that if there is a top on there is twice the ingredients for the pastry. These will definitely be made. Many thanks.
Well that explains what those tins were at my Great Grandmothers house. LOL I have something similar a bit fancier in shape but have an awesome idea on what to do with them now. :D Thank you!
YUMMY!!! Gotta do these too!!! You're yhe best!!! Thank you for being so kind and loving !!!! Makes it SO fun!!! I'm making these for the weekend!!! Better than quiche!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞ladybugs for me for luck, 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻lovely sunflowers for you for just being you!!! Sending love from Santa Barbara California!!!!!❤️‼️
I absolutely love your channel You are so knowledgeable ,matter of fact and your voice is very soothing Your a natural teacher Now if I can just convert your measurements to American terms ,I can get started making some of your delicious looking recipes
Why did you throw the left over pastry away? You could have frozen it and used it at a later date, or you could have made cheese straws out of it, it's such a waste to throw it away!
Oh my, I was hollering at the screen: Don't throw it away! Wastefulness makes me so unhappy. Food isn't always as plentiful at my home as it should be, so I cannot afford to waste anything (not even potato peels). That was riches she threw out!
These pies look delicious. When you were making the pastry, I'm thinking you're going to have trouble with rolling out the pastry, but how amazing just pressing it into the tins. Thank you.
Good morning Cheryl from a fellow Scot:) just came across your channel and its really great. Some of your recipes id forgotten about since being a child. My mum would make some of your dishes so im going to try them with your help thanks. Hope you are having a lovely day cause its a cauld day lol
They look absolutely scrumptious. But .... potatoes, pastry and chips! All those carbohydrates! Would put me in a diabetic coma. Still, it is Scotland where they need some padding to combat the cold. But, well done as usual. I love your videos.
My Scottish gran made something like this, but she lined the tin with thinly sliced potato instead of pastry. Delicious! Once, on a whim, she lined the tins with bacon - also good. Love your channel!
Never bin leftover pastry. Freeze it or make cheese twists. Just my opinion but I hate wasting ingredients 😬 I love your channel though, it's given me so much inspiration, thanks 😊
Wow. These look so gooood. Thanks for sharing.]this will be a hit this coming weekend as I have all if my close family coming and this is on the menu now. But I have no access to leiscter cheese. What does it taste like.? Southwest US here.
I like your channel greatly and am learning new things to cook. Your way of putting your videos together is lovely. One thing noticed is your tendency to toss extra "usable and good" pastry crust in the bin. I have to ask why you waste it when you could make the one or two wee items your baking; even if you don't need it now - you may do later or have it for a late-night snack or lunch on the morrow? It seems a shame to waste it. If it is shortcrust - use a cookie cutter and make a few crust cookies by sprinkling a wee bit of caster sugar on top and baking them. They are a lovely treat with a bit of tea. - Just a thought.
Hi Sheryl, I had a look on Lakeland’s web sit and the only tins they have like the ones you show, are oval in shape but yours look to be round.? Can you give an idea of the depth as I can get non stick tins at 6.25” x 1.3/8”, as we are pensioners, pies we have bought of around this size cut in half seem about right for us, as you say with some mash and greens. Do you think this size will work? Thanks Bob Oxfordshire uk…
Can you freeze these, either before or after cooking? I love your recipes, but it's just me and I like to make a larger recipe and freeze in servings for ready meals.
My mother was a Lincolnshire country woman and any left over pastry like that she would have made me a mini jam or sweet mince pasty. I loved them!
My mom used to roll her left over dough out thin and put it on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar, cut it into random shapes and bake it. It was a special treat for us kids while we were waiting for the pie.
Ooo sounds tasty.
That just gave me flashback to my youth, I swear my Mom made extra pastry just for us kids. Her pie crust was perfect every time.
I love listening to your videos Cheryl ..no showing off just simple instructions and gorgeous food with a wee bit of a blether too ..Fantastic ! Keep up the grand work .
Same! Beautiful accent so comforting😊❤

Gordon Ramsey eat your heart out, Cheryl is a winner💕
Aw that's very kind lol...but I'm no chef :) Just a humble home cook! Thanks for watching Catherine.
What's For Tea?: You make delicious food normal people eat! That's the difference.
Proper food. Every time I watch your videos my mouth waters.
OMG! I am hooked! This lady fixes such great dishes! What's not to love?
Oh my goodness, when the chips and peas we’re added, my mouth watered.
My mother was Scottish and she would always make a jam tart for me with any pastry dough left over.
Yes I hate waste too!
I agree a jam tart was made with the leftover
linda sims. Yes! Always!
My gran did the same :) Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten that
My mother did too!
I would have made another pie and eaten two instead of just one, no way would I have thrown away any pastry or filling...... Great recipe, certainly on my list of what meals to make when we can finally have family and friends over for tea.
OHHHH, this looks absolutely delicious ! Gonna have to make this one for sure !!
Mmmmm, you certainly know how to go the extra mile, the cheese sauce tops if what looked like an incredible supper
They were lovely pies! They looked fantastic! Thumbs up as always xx
this looks so good! I'm going to have to try this.
Oh my hat.... that looks yummy.... will give it a try... thank you...

It's the best ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
My mouth is watering... 😋😋😋
Made these for tea, they were fab, definitely a keeper!!
Your recipes are fabulous and you are an excellent presenter.
Well I'd love this for my tea, looks lovely

Going back over your past recipes I found this one. Can’t wait to try it as like you we like to have some meat-free meals. Will be sure to let you know my results.

I would have baked the last shell, and put it in the freezer(for or filled it with pudding for your sweetie!💕)
I just can’t get over how delicious this looks. *drool* I bet they would be good with little dices of ham inside too. Mmmm. Thanks for sharing!
I love your pots and pans! I'm in need of new pots and pans could you please tell me what pots and pans you are using ?
Thank you very much for sharing this! Great idea for supper tonight! Wish me luck! The cheese sauce over the chips looks fantastic! Slàinte!

Great video. Look delicious
These were lovely Laura :)
Why did you throw the left over pastry away? You could have frozen it and used it at a later date, or you could have made cheese straws out of it, it's such a waste to throw it away!
Jenni Graham if she’d made the 5th pie, it could have been eaten for lunch, or better still sent tome for mine 😋🥳😂
@@mamofoneteen5178good idea 😂🤣
I thought the same. Obviously not hard up.
She could have made the 5th pie and had it next day or put it in freezer

They were dead tasty Ashley :) x
Where did you get your wee pie tins ? X
These look fantastic! Can't wait to try making them... Where did you find your individual pie plates? I would love a recommendation!
Cheryl replied Lakeland in an earlier post, sadly not in NZ but hopefully with you ;)

Oh and my apologies, I should have said, the pies look absolutely delicious!
Looks good thank you 🙏
Aw you're very welcome :) Lovely to see you x

Hi Mrs what’s for tea do you ever use air fryer for cooking ?
How would it be to add a little beer to the cheese sauce? I'm thinking that might be pretty good...
Some minced jalapeño on top would be a treat.
