@@journey4109 Well that largely depends on the audience. E.g. Resident Evil was considered rather bad adaptation but regardless had plenty of fans. And so did Mortal Kombat in 90s. Despite of that there are some movies which does suck a lot (like Super Mario bros or Alone in the dark or Street Fighter) and some which are really good (like DnD: Company of the thieves or FF: Advent Children) despite what critics says. Movie is great not because of epic visuals, special effects or music. It's not great because of well known actors, costumes etc. It's great when it does attract the audience and let them enjoy the show. There are many instances of movies which sucked despite of great visuals or actors. And there are some movies and shows which did ok despite having shitty costumes, essentially no plot and dumb dialogues. Critics can't explain that, it's beyond their comprehension...

saw it in St cloud MN with my dad who took me when I was only 5. i vividly remmeber when he told me he was taking me to see it, although i had played the game a ton in he arcade and on the snes, i don't think i had any awareness that a movie was being made. thanks pa, love ya!
Objectively it's a decent film but not great. However, in a very real sense it's also a PERFECT film, because of the way it captures the feel and style of its subject matter and presents it in a way that is going to be most pleasing to its fanbase (which included me back in the day of its release). This is a film that knew exactly what it wanted to be and achieved precisely what it attempted.
It really is. The film studio originally wanted a rock song with famous singers for the soundtrack, but the producers refused & hired a small music studio to arrange EDM music that later became MK movue theme. It was ahead of its time because this theme became the 1st EDM in a movie soundrack that recieved Platinum certification.
I love how often this movie took advantage of the "2D side-scrolling fighter" camera angle to emulate the imagery of the games at the time. Give the second movie as much shit as you want for existing, but this FIRST movie as well as the newest one from 2021 were fucking EPIC. Yes, they both have problems, but the good of them overshadows those issues in my opinion.
The scene where Johnny cage was fighting scorpion, you can see a car in the background driving in that bamboo forest. Never caught this as a kid. Still love this movie

I do a lot of bare knuckle fights out in the country and every time before my fight, I’ll put this song on. I can listen to the guy say test your mic because it makes me feel like I need to become a warrior to win.
