Another great review. I bought this kit when it first came out, and it's been in my stash ever since. I can't believe I've been hauling this around for over 30 years! Maybe this will be the motivtion to finally build it.
Your channel came up on my feed couple weeks ago. After watching several videos. I certainly appreciate everything you do. I'm currently back into military modeling after 30+ years of cars and trucks. I'm slowly getting into aircraft so thank you for what you do.
I only started model making two years ago and it is very intersting and mind blowing to see old kits from companies I never saw ...and to see the quality some of them have. Fascinating to me since the only plane kit i ever saw/had as a kid in a post comunist country was a "plane" consisting a small wood stick on which you had to glue some papper elements. Thank you for all of your reviews !
Thanks Jon, Another great review. I have a Monogram He-111 H22 with V1 Flying Bomb, patiently waiting in my stash at the moment, maybe your review will spur me on!
Hi Jon. Quite a nice kit for 30 years old with a good amount of detail. Hasegawa using it is a good recommendation. The one with the V-1 mounted underneath would be a bonus but I do like torpedo bombers as well. I see (Scalemates) that Revell nabbed ICM's He.III for their most recent release. ICM kit has both engines and bomb bay but a much bigger price tag and if it's all closed up you don't see it anyway. It would be nice if they offered a cheaper version sans engines and bomb bay like Eduard Weekend Editions. ICM does the Zwilling as well which would take up a fair amount of shelf space and $$$! Cockpit is always the focus of the He.III because of all that glazing (the fun part!!!!😵💫). They sometimes painted some of the lower glazing due to dazzle from searchlights in the Blitz which would cut down on masking! Look forward to seeing the end result. Thanks for the build/review. Cheers Matt 🦘.
@MatterusOD Thanks, Matt! I saw some pictures of the built-up ICM kit and didn't see any advantages over the Monogram He 111 with regards to surface detail on the exterior. I would like to see inside the ICM box, though. I'm sure it's a nice kit as well, but it's probably more difficult. Cheers!
Bought and built one when there first came out. The fit and details was great but most of these monogram kit off the first run are great. With that being said this kit is relatively a good kit. One thing about monogram and there details, is they are where you can see them and not overly detail like some kits today. Really injoy building these type of kits from monogram. Thanks for the review...
Hey Jon, you've mention about doing a " larger model" and really glad to see you pick this one. Somehow I missed this one when it came out, almost close to my sabbatical. I did catch a JU-52 from an auction at a good price and its really driving me crazy with the corrugated metal but also very nice details. ICM has several versions out but while popular their kits they are pricy. I'm thinking this might be a good kit for searching eBay. I do have the Airfix 1/72 kit to match the radial and Merlin engine version of Lancasters for a Battle of Britain collection. Based on your review this kit has definitely moved up on the " buy list". Still so many models and so little time. Thanks for a big boy review, Cheers Bob
@c123bthunderpig You're welcome, Bob! I have quite a few of the bigger kits to review in the future (including the Ju-52). Naturally, they take more work to review. Cheers!
Great aircraft especially in1/48. There are some really interesting aftermarket decals for this kit as there were a lot of these types n service. She would look great next to a Tamiya type 11 Betty! Hint! Another great review Jon! Thanks and ride on!
@stevecausey545 I have lots of kits in the stash and in-process. I was cleaning up parts on two kits yesterday - the Spirit of St. Louis, and the 1/24 scale Airfix Hurricane. Any thoughts?
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 I've never seen the hurricane opened up. I used to get the 1/24kits for Christmas..the mustang and spitfire. But without spray paint they were all white...lol I remember I thought the mustang could only be silver. Them military modeler had the 1/24 mustang on the cover...in olive drab! I hand painted the entire model...ahh memories lol
@stevecausey545 Right on! Most of my builds when I was younger were left unpainted. I was glad when a kit was molded in appropriately colored plastic. People complain about prices today, but I couldn't afford the kits and the paints, too! The Hurricane is molded in obnoxious light blue, so paints are needed 😉. Cheers!
I built this in a later re-boxing, and liked it. Mine had the two torpedoes, which add a lot to its appearance as it flies over my head hanging from the ceiling. Nice review.

Great video Jon on this He-111..I’ve got the ICM kit of this though the Monogram/Revell kit looks more straightforward..Got to agree with you about Montex masks as I’m using them now for a Tamiya Mosquito and they’re a nightmare.!.Thanks again and all the best.!🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
Thank you. I would love to check out the ICM kit at some point. I've had to order Eduard masks to replace the Montex masks I had already purchased for lots of kits - what a waste! It's no wonder they were on sale when I got them. Cheers!
Another great video. I have this kit but will be building a replica with Merlin engines as a Battle Of Britain movie aircraft. I have given up on Montex masks as the plastic does not conform to curved surfaces terribly well. They also tend to shrink with age.
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 I am really looking forward to this project set for early next year. I will be using the resin Merlin engines originally intended for a Beaufighter Mk.II. I am already doing the Buchon version of the Bf 109 by Hobbycraft.
Very nice review again, I love the HE-111 look. Some day I'll build one in a larger scale (only done 1:144 version so far). I wonder how this compares with the ICM offerings.
@scaleffect Thank you! I haven't seen the ICM kit in person, but the surface detail on the exterior on both of the kits looks very close. The ICM kit has complete engines if that's your thing. The Monogram kit is far cheaper. Cheers!
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 You aren't kidding about that, a lot of the price tags on the larger 1/48 aircraft coming out these days is a bit of a sticker shocker! But, the engineering, materials, and details keep getting better, can't complain about that.
