    I fucking love Motörhead.
    The music that I listen to, the bands that I love, the scene that helped me shape my identity; all of it would be unrecognizable without Lemmy Kilmister. The man was larger than life and left an impression on everybody he met, as evidenced by any interview he gave in his seventy years. Although I had never been to a Motörhead show, let alone met the man, I was genuinely upset to learn of his death in December of 2015. His music was undeniably coarse and aggressive, but it was music that if you didn’t like, then it wasn’t made for you. Uncompromising almost to a fault, Motörhead left a grimy whiskey stain on 70’s English rock, and by extension Metal, which could not and will not be wiped away.
    Needless to say, I was over the moon when I saw Airfix was releasing a model of the Heinkel that assaulted the cover of Motörhead’s 1979 album “Bomber”. Don’t expect this to be a comprehensive history of the He 111; fuck that, that’ll be later. This video is going to be more of a build diary than a historical analysis. With all that out of the way, grab a bottle of Jack and let’s get started!

      you commented about the difference between the album cover and the He 111 but I thought you might be interested to know Lemmy made models himself and at the Heavy Metal Barn Dance Stafford Hall 1980 one of the ticket prizes was a He 111 made by Lemmy himself which he gave on stage to the lucky winner at the end of the set.
      Airfix also made different He 111 over the decades. This is just the last mold and type by the looks of it. I believe that is why you have different propellers but I might be wrong as I recently build another Airfix kit that had different types of track bogies on the sprue to the SPG I was building, but the same unused bogies were fitted to the Grant tank which use the same body frame. So Airfix might just put in parts on sprues so one sprue can be used on two or more kits?

    Saw my first Motörhead concert 1989 (and got thrown out due to my buddy)
    The day Lemmy died, I went up to my sons room: "Son, Lemmy is dead. I'm gonna play Motörhead all day. Loud. Deal with it"
    Then I put on Orgasmatron, poured up a whiskey and cried.
    1.40 AM this morning I got an email newsletter from Hannants informing that they had this kit in stock! Immediately purchased 2 of them. One for me, and one for my buddy. He's the biggest Motörhead fan I know. Gonna build that one for his 55th birthday, together with a Jack Daniel's.
    Great build video.
    Born to lose, live to win!!

      had pretty similar situations like you. got almost kicked out of a motorhead concert because my buddy was not able to stand up straight any more.
      the day lemmy died my girl woke up next to me, she looked at her phone, looked at me and just said "oh shit". In this moment I fucking knew it. I answered, lemmy is dead?. She just nodded. So went to my brother, turned up the stereo and started drinking.
      cheers to all motörheads out there. dont let the bastards grind you down.

    Saw Motorhead many times, first gig was 1982. Also got to meet Lemmy a few times. On of them, he bought me and my mate a pint. Truly down-to-earth nice guy. Just got the model delivered, going to take my time over this one.

    I will get this kit finally. A friend from Germany will bring it. I build military models ... Built airplanes when I was 13/15 yo. All from Revell 1/32 scale in the 80's ... Thank you for the hints. Hope I can have a good result.

    I had no idea Airfix had made this kit. Guess I'll be buying one. Great video and loved the finished model. Well done. I have 2 favourite Motorhead memories. First, is my son asking if I had any Motorhead albums he could listen to after seeing Lemmy in a TV ad. I gave him No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. He disappeared onto his bedroom. 40 minutes later he came running down the stairs and very excitedly declared, "I know what I want to, I want to be in a band" He was 12 years old and has loved Motorhead ever since. The second memory is taking my 18 yr old son to see Motorhead in 2012. Unfortunately, this would be the only time he saw them live. He surprised me with VIP tickets to watch the soundcheck as a late birthday present for me. We chatted with Mikkey Dee for a few minutes before the soundcheck.

    Really good tip for all modelers; superglue and baking soda together sets instantly into a rock-hard compound that can then be filed, drilled, glued etc; build up a layer at a time - drop if glue, sprinkle on baking powder, repeat. Practice on scrap first! Would be ideal, for instance, for mounting the electric motors in the engine nacelle. Great entertaining video and thank you!!

    I'm currently trying to build this kit as per Joe Petagno's awesome painting! Great video and very informative. Motorhead are my all-time favourite band, and I got to see them 13 times, though I never got to meet any of the band, which in a way, I was glad for, as I have met people who did meet him on one of his ''off days'' where he was a bit of an ass with them, so if that had been me, it would have destroyed me. Like they say, never meet your heroes! LOL!!

    The perfect tribute to Lemmy who famously blamed his obsession with German World War Two kit on "too much Airfix as a kid!" ;0) How about modelling a 1/35th Lemmy riding a Hetzer to recreate the scene in his biopic documentary film?

    • @ZTEWorks
      @ZTEWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This kit has definitely convinced me that I need to invest in pre-made masks next time. The kit is very nice, with only a few pieces that need some work: some of the cockpit glass needs some convincing to stay in place and all of the engine cowl/fairing parts could use some meatier connecting points.

    I really enjoyed watching this both both reasons; model aircraft and Motörhead! Congratulations on an excellent build, some good tips but most of all, for me, NOT putting the Ace of Spades as part of the background music. I echo Lemmy when he said he was sick to death of that track and there are so many more much better songs before and after.

    • @ZTEWorks
      @ZTEWorks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My reasoning was simply just that Ace of Spades isn’t on the Bomber album, but I totally agree. It’s a ripper but it’s way overplayed.

      I also had a really rough time fitting it all together; it just wouldn’t stay in one piece. I’m willing to bet that’s the most fragile bit of the thing.
      If I had to guess, something in clear plastic just doesn’t react to cement as easily as “normal” styrene.

Unfortunately I don’t remember the whole circuit, so I can’t be sure what size the resistor was or even if I used a resistor. It’s all powered by a 9 volt battery.

    • @ZTEWorks
      @ZTEWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ball turret in the nose is purely an artistic choice and is not based on any actual aircraft. Putting Philthy into any of the other actual gunner’s positions would crowd the cockpit and heavily weight the image to that area, and putting him in the dorsal or ventral turret would make him invisible. I suspect the hardpoints were another artistic choice to balance the image.
