People overcomplicate story so much. Casey's example of a story is literally just 1) what he did before Steve-O's podcast, 2) Steve-O's podcast, 3) what he did after Steve-O's podcast.
I saw a great example of this when someone interviewed him. They asked multiple times why he dropped in a bit of music at a particular point, they were seemingly fixated on 'understanding' this, like there was a magic formula to it. Something like that comes down to feel, and intuition. Yes, you could delve into the technicalities of it, but Casey and many others don't work like that.
@@MrWokymanlol I know exactly which interview you’re taking about. That stood out to me too how they were pushing so much into that when reviewing just the intro part of his video so far. But I thought also that the interviewer was just really overly passionate and fangirl-y. I noticed he was like that in another interview of a creator too.
This brings back some memories! Hours and hours of watching CN vlogs. I totally agree with the breakdown. The guy is a master at storytelling and he does it with €100 phone of he wants to. Great video bruh…oh and hey Charlotte 👋🏻
Honestly, if you start watching again it will make your day 100% better. (+ *unpopular opinion: it’s better than half of the yt content out there today 🥲) I’ll tell her next time I get her to tag along 😄
I really noticed how much effort you have put into this video. Like travelling to the same places as the Casey clips you used. It takes a long time to plan and execute a video like this. Awesome Tom!
Comments like yours make it worth all the effort ☺️👌🏻 Thanks for noticing and thanks for the kind words 🙏🏻🙏🏻
You’re good man. Studying the best and you’ve been able to Implement. We need more of this on TH-cam.
Just found your channel man, your videos are GORGEOUS
Well done video. Hard to believe it was about 7+ years ago when Casey was doing all his vlogs. I got hooked and watched them all...really wanted to start a channel. I worked on the sequences a bit, and did a couple random vlogs (no planned structure), and realized how much work it was. I recently signed up for his course, waiting for it to start in a week or so. I've started watching several of his old vlogs to be reminded of his style and how much joy they bring watching them. I'd love to bring that to people in my own videos. Anyway, I just stumbled on you with this video and subscribed....great quality and I love the details you put into this. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Tom Thanks. This is gold!
ahh nice!! thanks for putting it together - the way you talk also make it look effortless
Really enjoying this behind the creator series! New subscriber! Thanks!
Excellent analysis and beautifully shot, guys. Thank you!
I’m sure many will find this very useful, even though Casey is now running his own film-making course, as you said. I definitely hope to watch more of yours, despite this.
You also got so many examples of Casey’s style in there, like even smaller details, such as his farewell to a person and the accompanying hand gesture. I started making notes to possibly apply these techniques in the near future.
amazing video, so much info and value nicely put together! thanks!!
Tasty Neistat. This was definitely one of the better break downs of Casey videos I’ve seen. It’s funny you say you don’t like vlogging in public because you looked so comfortable 😂.
Those Timelapse’s really sold this video. Great work as always, Tom!
Agreed. So disappointed YT isn’t picking up his videos and showing the world. He brings so much value and creativity to his videos. A true labour of love.
@Chrismeetschris *talking 5 levels lower when a random person pops up in the street. It’s a rare sight here in Belgium 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks brother 😎 when is your next vlog coming 🙋🏻♂️
@Vilhelm I changed the thumbnail after the first day and it seems that it’s starting to get picked up in the algorithm, just not in casey volumes haha. Let’s see how far I have to push it before the YT gods notice me 😂 Wanna place a bet? 🤷🏻♂️🥲
Thanks man. Great effort, amazing breakdown
Wow, fantastic breakdown. You've really put a lot of work into this. One technique I also see you copy well is when he starts a sentence, and then finishes it in a next shot. Makes it really dynamic. It's one thing to see and recognise it, but as you say, a whole different thing to actually go out and do it. Also, nice transition @ 3:08 with the person acting as a cross-over.
Amazing video dude. Makes me rethink every angle I’ve filmed from!
Dude, this is so good. Great job! Thanks for sharing
Loved it! I am inspired!
Great video with great information! Thank you
Thank you so much for this! This was amazing. We have been vlogging for a while now but really want to get more creative. New subscribers and friends!

Never be sorry for binging my man haha 🙏🏻 Thanksssss so much 😎
Thank you!
At first I didn't want to listen to you, I'm one of those people that just likes to accept the magic of something and not have it broken down, (sometimes), but I listened and I really appreciate this info!! New SUB here! (The first part was totally tongue in cheek, knew I'd like this from the start I'm just stubborn).
Passee by this channel trough this video , and saw that your from belgium 👊 grtz from belgium , and Nice video

Bro thank you so much for the simplification! This is my next journey as a filmmaker - I want to TELL BETTER STORIES, huge value here, you're the man! And PROPS for filming yourself in Public!
Sorry for the late reply, switching between channels makes me forget about some comments 😅 Thanks for the awesome words Matty! Good luck, but I'm sure it's gonna work out just fine with that mindset 😎 Thanks!!
very helpful!
Glad you think so! Thanks for stopping by here 😎
CN is a legend. The way you break it down is super cool
So happy you liked the breakdown!! If you want to see more of that I made a new channel about more creator related stuff @creatorsecrets. But anyway, huge thanks 🙋🏻♂️
Great video! Where do you get your music?
Niiiice a mini class on “The Hero With A Thousand Faces”… Love Casey too!
Haha thanks man ✌🏻 he’s a legend 🤩
I watchd all that interview and also made a notews on that segment about vloging. Sounds so easy, but so hard to implement. Great deep dive into Casey's process.
P.S. I signed up on his course, curious to see what he will teach on it.
The king 👑 Thanks man, means a lot! And awesome to see you there too😄 Maybe we make it to the same group 😃
Great video man! Sick skills.
Appreciate it!
Great video, man! I'm taking Casey's class right now, and a couple of your points provided a bit of additional color to what he's talking about. Also, I'm literally editing a video right now with that same song you used in your b-roll sequence. I just found the song last night and have been listening to parts of it ALL DAY. Then I hear it in your video, too. 🤣
Ah cool man! Yeah I got side tracked so I'm catching up on his course! But already found a gazillion of small details in his class for the next update video haha.
And ah, I'm sorry man haha. I know how annoying it can be to find the same music in other creators their videos 😅
@@tomsodyssey Haha, no - not at all! I think it's kinda fun, actually - see how others use the same song. Plus your editing and storytelling are great, so it's nice to see some similarities. Keep up the great work! 👊🏻
Keep the good work ‼️
Will do 🫡 got some great stuff coming 😎😎
You’re also forgetting the most important bit. Casey!!!
Looks, clothes, sunglasses, the way he talks etc etc
Casey is why his videos are amazing
100% right here 🔥
this video is *SO GOOD* !!!😺😺👏👏
this comment is SO GOOD 🔥
@@tomsodyssey 😺😺!!!!
this is a fantastic brakedown!! I took his online course.
How did you like it? 😎
@@tomsodyssey I learned mostly that if your going to make videos like Casey you need to also have his 20+ years of experience in storytelling. I loved watching his behind the scenes. The class definitely helped how I edit. But I definitely have a long way to go.
We all start somewhere 😉 but yes, indeed! A lot of people forget all the background creators have when they are successful. 😅
Good video really helpful
Glad it helped! Hope you can apply some of his techniques 🙌🏻
Great video Tom! This is a really helpful breakdown. Greetings from a fellow Belgian!
Thanks Jasper! Sorry for the uber late reply... busy weeks before the holiday 😅 But glad to see the video is reaching the other Belgians out there 😎 Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? 😄
@@tomsodyssey I’m all the way at the other side of the country in Limburg!
Hahaha Limburger, wereldburger. Ik kom oorspronkelijk uit Hoeselt 😄
@@tomsodyssey Cool! Kleine wereld! 😁 Professioneel ook met video bezig?
awesome video mate!, Casey is the GOAT TH-camr Vlogger 🐐👍
Your Videos are so cracy good! No idea why you don't have more views... BTW Casey is a legend :D
Legend says he’s more than that 🙋🏻♂️🙃 haha yes 💪🏻 thanks so much for checking them out ☺️ The dance with the algorithm takes a while to master 🥲
Awesome
Great work mate....
Thanks broseph! 🙋🏻♂️
And then for Act III you come back to Casey being interviewed with Stevo. You set it up with act one when you introduced the conflict in act two where we question whether we had the skills and then boom you nail it with act three. Cheers Tom! I see what you did there! 👋🏼🇨🇦
Can you explain shortly how to tell stories?
