I really noticed how much effort you have put into this video. Like travelling to the same places as the Casey clips you used. It takes a long time to plan and execute a video like this. Awesome Tom!
People overcomplicate story so much. Casey's example of a story is literally just 1) what he did before Steve-O's podcast, 2) Steve-O's podcast, 3) what he did after Steve-O's podcast.
I saw a great example of this when someone interviewed him. They asked multiple times why he dropped in a bit of music at a particular point, they were seemingly fixated on 'understanding' this, like there was a magic formula to it. Something like that comes down to feel, and intuition. Yes, you could delve into the technicalities of it, but Casey and many others don't work like that.
@@MrWokymanlol I know exactly which interview you’re taking about. That stood out to me too how they were pushing so much into that when reviewing just the intro part of his video so far. But I thought also that the interviewer was just really overly passionate and fangirl-y. I noticed he was like that in another interview of a creator too.
I just discovered Casey, literally from that interview mentioned in the comments. Yes the story structure is that simple. It’s a formula. But saying that’s all it is, nothing more, isn’t correct. Casey is a natural and he struggled to answer those questions because he never even thought about it.
This brings back some memories! Hours and hours of watching CN vlogs. I totally agree with the breakdown. The guy is a master at storytelling and he does it with €100 phone of he wants to. Great video bruh…oh and hey Charlotte 👋🏻
Honestly, if you start watching again it will make your day 100% better. (+ *unpopular opinion: it’s better than half of the yt content out there today 🥲) I’ll tell her next time I get her to tag along 😄

Tasty Neistat. This was definitely one of the better break downs of Casey videos I’ve seen. It’s funny you say you don’t like vlogging in public because you looked so comfortable 😂. Those Timelapse’s really sold this video. Great work as always, Tom!
Agreed. So disappointed YT isn’t picking up his videos and showing the world. He brings so much value and creativity to his videos. A true labour of love.
@Chrismeetschris *talking 5 levels lower when a random person pops up in the street. It’s a rare sight here in Belgium 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks brother 😎 when is your next vlog coming 🙋🏻♂️
@Vilhelm I changed the thumbnail after the first day and it seems that it’s starting to get picked up in the algorithm, just not in casey volumes haha. Let’s see how far I have to push it before the YT gods notice me 😂 Wanna place a bet? 🤷🏻♂️🥲
Casey is a GREAT editor, but his personality is also GREAT. The combination of these two, make for great videos. His story telling and all the rest is the icing on the cake..
Well done video. Hard to believe it was about 7+ years ago when Casey was doing all his vlogs. I got hooked and watched them all...really wanted to start a channel. I worked on the sequences a bit, and did a couple random vlogs (no planned structure), and realized how much work it was. I recently signed up for his course, waiting for it to start in a week or so. I've started watching several of his old vlogs to be reminded of his style and how much joy they bring watching them. I'd love to bring that to people in my own videos. Anyway, I just stumbled on you with this video and subscribed....great quality and I love the details you put into this. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
I watchd all that interview and also made a notews on that segment about vloging. Sounds so easy, but so hard to implement. Great deep dive into Casey's process. P.S. I signed up on his course, curious to see what he will teach on it.
Wow, fantastic breakdown. You've really put a lot of work into this. One technique I also see you copy well is when he starts a sentence, and then finishes it in a next shot. Makes it really dynamic. It's one thing to see and recognise it, but as you say, a whole different thing to actually go out and do it. Also, nice transition @ 3:08 with the person acting as a cross-over.
Thanks for the video! I recently started doing daily vlogs for my weight loss journey and I really wanted to learn how to tell a story while adding my weight loss as the main element. This helped a lot.

Excellent analysis and beautifully shot, guys. Thank you! I’m sure many will find this very useful, even though Casey is now running his own film-making course, as you said. I definitely hope to watch more of yours, despite this. You also got so many examples of Casey’s style in there, like even smaller details, such as his farewell to a person and the accompanying hand gesture. I started making notes to possibly apply these techniques in the near future.
Damn you’re good. How long it take you to make this one? I can tell you easily spend a week here? Right? The other thing with case is it was his daily turnover. Great job, I’m subscribing🙌🏻
