    A really great episode. The 'sound of sailing' and those full sail shots...magical !! Never tire of these.

      Thanks Paul You really cannot beat that sound sometimes can you?! It may be my last episode for a little while as I’ve been busy with Safar’s maintenance while I’m in Alicante,m and my work is looming again! But at least I’ll be all equipped and ready for spring when the real sailing can begin! Hope you’re well.

    safar and imocas. best of both worlds!

      Certainly too very different concepts to sailing! It was impressive to see how quickly the IMOCA take off when they catch the wind, trying to get close enough in Safar for pictures wasn’t easy 😂

    Hey, love your videos! So you've gone to work on a ship for some time now I hear. I'd love to see the journey back to Safar from your work place as part of your next video!!! Just a thought! Enjoy!

    I like your mind thinking about the bow thrusters. I share the same thoughts. I don't have a bow thruster. Many sailors become so accustomed with them and they rely on them and with time their docking technics become reliable pretty much only with a bow thruster.

    Sometimes in the med a black muddy bottom can produce this bubbles. Another great video!

      It’s definitely strange to be hearing noises from the bilges that’s for sure 😅

    I'll take Safar over any IMOCA everyday and twice on Sundays. Another brilliant video thanks!

      Thanks Rory! I’m with you there! The IMOCAS are incredible machines…. But that’s how I think of them…. Were as Safar has soul and character.

    I was driving home from my boat this evening and i came to think of your TH-cam channel,,, and i wondered why you hadn't uploaded any videos lately... so when i came home i looked at my list of channels I do subscribe to,,,, and i could not find your channel... luckily I removed the name of your vessel, so I managed to search it up an noticed that I was no longer subscribed 🤔 well its all sorted now, won't miss the next one. Grate stuff .
    Best regards from Jarle

      Really glad you’ve enjoyed my videos so far, and apologies I haven’t been able to make / upload many more recently. But glad you deceived to resubscribe again, even if you didn’t unsubscribe 😅
      I’m currently working over seas so I can fund the next Safar adventures, starting early May, so hopefully I’ll be able to get some great sailing content then. All the best, Morgan

    Great video. A controlled bunch of horses working in a common goal is referred to as a team of horses. A herd of uncontrolled horses referrers to a random group collective without a common goal grouped together...

    Hi Morgan , years ago I sailed my Dufour Arpege to the Med and encountered the same thing and thought the worst. Happily though it’s explained as small animals , plankton? In the water and it sounds like snap crackle and pop in the bilges - worry not!

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jon! It has to be that! It’s always reassuring to know my propellor and keel live on to fight another day 😅

    Another cracking episode. Shrimps can make a crackling noise through the hull. Especially in warmer waters. You did well planting the boat into that berth. I think a lot of boats use bow thrusters as a crutch and not an aid, to make up for lack of close quarter manoeuvring skills.

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you must be right regarding the shrimp Craig, good call! It’s very odd heraring noises from the bilges all the same 😅
      I think that’s just it, a thruster is very handy tool, no doubt. But the units designed for the leisure market should never be a critical part of someones manoeuvres.

  • @Adventures_with_Ayla
    @Adventures_with_Ayla ปีที่แล้ว

    It could very well be a special kind of schrimp making that sizzling noise. I have experienced in the Med several times. First time I suspected an electrical failure that could lead to fire 🤪. But no worries it’s just ocean creatures 😉

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s funny how “in tune” we get with our boats isn’t it… the slightest noise change and we immediately fear the worst! I think you’re right, sea creatures must’ve been the cause as I’m happy to report my propeller didn’t fizzle away 😅

      Glad you’re enjoying them! Shame you didn’t get chance to have a sail back when I was in Falmouth, but hopefully I’ll be there again down the line.

      To be honest mate, I’ve not made it that far yet 😅 I’ve been working on Safar solidly since I arrived, Engine Service, Rigging repairs/ replacements and painting out the interior with Toplac 😂 I stayed up late last night and took a break this afternoon so I could edit the video 😅 but for sure I’ll be getting around next week and I’ll even give Tinder ago and see if I can find a crew 😉

    In my experience, surfing and sailing, that fizzing happened at several locations. The only thing in common was pollution, sewerage!

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m hoping it was something natural (some people mentioning shrimp, Plankton in the water etc) The thought of the water crackling from sewage pollution is heart breaking, but then perhaps not surprising with all the commercial fish farms in the area 🤔

    • @madal55
      @madal55 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sailingsafar Some kind of discharge. Morocco and Newquay were my experiences; both sewage.

  • @WavedancerWesterlyfulmar
    @WavedancerWesterlyfulmar ปีที่แล้ว

    At me or is a salt water lagoon so fizzling sound was probably a result of higher salt content in the water

      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John, Yvonne! I’m still not 100% sure what the fizzing was, i noticed it happening again recently while in the marina in Tenerife. Hoping it’s sea life or salt content and not my rudder pintles dissolving 😅 Hope the winter is kind to you in Ireland! All the best, Morgan

    Could the sound be originating from inside the boat? The one time I ever heard such fizzling sound is made by sand running inside a bamboo rain making music instrument.

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely an external source, but I did think it could be electrics arcing off from somewhere.
      No such rainmaking devices on this boat that’s for sure, I’m usually trying to avoid the rain whenever possible! But I guess you must of needed it for to top up your tanks??

    Depth sounder maybe?

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a bad call Valentin, that’s usually more of a quiet click on Safar though! It’s hard to describe this noise other than a constant fizz. I’ve not heard it before or since, so hopefully it’s not me or my boat dissolving.

    Funny how often American youtube sailors refer to the med as an ocean (they know it is not an ocean but I guess it comes automatically for them since they live between two oceans) while you as an English man not only you don't refer to it as an ocean, but you just compare it with the ocean.
