China plans to collect anti-dumping duties on European brandy imports from October 11, 2024. The European Union said it would challenge the move, announced just days after Brussels voted to impose tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, at the World Trade Organization. Beijing’s plans would require major French brands such as Martell, Remy Martin and Hennessy to pay “security charges” of at least 30 per cent on imports into China.

Why the EU think that when they placed tariffs on Chinese's goods and expected China not to do the same, what were the EU thinking ?
they feel entitled.
They weren't thinking clearly because they were politicians. Politicians often make poor businessmen.
How dare you!
We did it on purpose so brandy will be cheaper for locals 🎉 keep the brandy to ourselves
They should apply it to luxury fashion brand aswell.
Chinà makes most of those as well even if they say made in France or Italy.

The counterfeit ones.
Lol. Gucci literally is made in china.@@ypw510
@ypw510 they can't produce well, if not in China. I recalled 1 store close his store if only Chinese tourists come. Remember, China is the producer of best cotton in world which was from xinjiang
They will. You can trust Chinese government for playing tic tac.
The EU will be screaming: "China cannot do that, only we can impose tariffs!" 🤣
😂😂😅😅
Just like the CCP does? Its not fun when we are evening out the playing field right?
The best part is the spokesman saying "we need to protect our industries from unfair trade practices which we will investigate fairly". The irony..... 😁
Yeah stick to Chinese brands of drinks that have slowly ruined people’s health due to their fake ingredients.
Overcapacity french brandy dumping world wide 😢
Replace brandy with cheap EV, and you’re accurate. 😂
@@ondreiii you know the EU is bs'ing about climate change when cheap EVs are a problem for them
I drank too much alcohol already...... for my entire life!
Weird. You can tariff electric cars. But go complain like a baby when tariffs hit on your products?
Euro liquor is expensive anyway. EU should have expected this to happen. Going to WTO only demonstrates their naivity.
300% Tariff on Luxury Bag!
Like china dont like luxury bags at all dont forget most items billionaires in china are all using LUXURY ITEMS made by EU😂😂 DONT MAKE ME LAUGH you brainless monkey
Lol they can’t afford the luxury bags anyway today. They’re all wearing fake ones 😂😂😂
@@ondreiiican you afford one 😂😅😅😂
300% ??
China should slap 800% or even 1,000% on EU f**k luxury bags
China's luxury goods purchases account for 38% of the world's total. If China were to impose tariffs on luxury goods, it would be fatal for France! china wouldn't do this unless absolutely necessary!
Slap Tariff on LV, Hermes, Lowe
Overcapacity of Martell, Hennessy, Otard... 😂😂😂
Add luxury cars to that list.
Only EU brandy ???
Will China slaps tariffs on these EU's : Dior、CHANEL、L'OREAL、HERMES、LV、TOTAL、Schneider、DANONE、Saint-Gobain、MICHELIN as well ??? 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Alcohol, luxury bag, ICE cars all these are unnecessary.
ICE cars? are you sure🤣
@@Kiyoone they're extremely unnecessary in a country that can't produce its own oil
@@Kiyoone only necessary in US/EU where charging stations are unreliable and few

100% tariff on LVMH over capacity !
There's a reason why it's called luxury... it's not gonna matter for the Rich 😑😑😑😑
Fashion brands say otherwise 😅😅😅
@@TheYogesh7777ofc they do but who cares?
90% french brandy is exported.
Time to stop french overcapacity and dump the over supply of brandy to the world. No french wants to drink brandy.
What? The French aren't big on drinking Cognac, where most is exported. However, they prefer Armagnac.
Europe imposed additional tariffs on cheaper Chinese EVs aimed at lower-income consumers. This tariff makes Chinese car brands expensive for those lower-income consumers. In response, China imposed tariffs on European brandy, targeting middle- and upper-middle-class Chinese consumers. However, I don't see a 30-35% price increase will deter these consumers from purchasing European brands. In sum, I think the Chinese tariffs will be less effective than the European ones
So in your own words EU is punishing its own people, most vulnerable group at that, who already has little money and in product segment, where there simply is no alternative, while Chinese simply make drinks more expensive for rich people, who woulndt care and will buy them anyway and middle class, who can simply to switch to any other brand of alcohol?

Australia should tell EU what to expect and what it feels like now hahaha
Foreign alcohols, let the foreigners in Shanghai drink them. EU slapped 40% on Chinese EV, China should slap 80% on those French brandy.
Buy alcohol drinks from friendly countries like Zimbabwe, South Africa, Chile and others.
Lol sureee 😂😂😂
Zimbabwean brandy, does that even exist?
Zimbabwe does not even produce enough basic food items for itself.
Sure. Like they will have a suitable substitute for Cognac.
Suntory makes a similar brandy in Japan. I guess that would work.
@@pjacobsen1000
I got curious and looked up what was available in Zimbabwe. Apparently they import brandy from South Africa. Doesn't sound like much of a competitor for Cognac.
China should start working on their own brandy business.
yes, that is the point. When gov says things like that is a green light for Chinese to do it.

EU charged EV from China and want to chellenge traiff imposed by China, it doesn't make sense. Is EU double standard grouping? They can do as they like to other but other can't retaliate
Not many people in China like these european liquor, but Chinese population is huge, even a tiny portion of them do it would be a huge business.
use local or other brands still the same..have nice brandy from other regions round the world
Over-capacity handbags, perfumes or high-end branded products monopolising the market.
As an Indian, I wish our government had the courage to impose tariffs on Western goods, but we lack the boldness to do so, unlike China. If we were to take such actions, Europe and the USA would likely stop donating billions to my poor country, India, each year.
You want to impose tariffs on EU and USA but you want them to send your country free money??🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣
Do Indians buy a lot of western goods? I've so far not heard of India being described as a major market for western consumer products, aside from iPhones.
What about radiation laced Japanese seafood? Why lift the ban?
Since EU put 200% tariff on China EV Cars, i dont see anything wrong that China do the same things on EU .
France is already crying and complaining
I beg your pardon but where did you get this nonsensical number from?
The EU started it first because they lost at their own game.
@@ragnarokws2670 Mainland China will be the biggest loser in a tariff war lol. China is the largest manufacturer and heavily reliant on exports. Without people buying cheap junks, China will implode by itself.

Probably the best time for tariffs on European luxury goods when Chinese demand for these luxury goods is at its lowest in years. 😊
Canada PM Trudeau :
"We must impose a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese EV car to protect our industrial."
🤣Canadian : But Sir , we don't have EV car industrial ?? 🤣
she (the bar owner) is smart, can be seen from her answers.
Ban Apple next
French brandies are also extremely expensive in North America due to taxes.
Bravos China 💪💪💪👏👏👏. What goes around comes around.😂
Will they making their own brandy industry someday ??
Maybe there would be a Chinese brandy industry someday
I saw some article claiming that they might be trying to protect domestic producers in China, but I've never heard of Chinese brandy. Now I suppose it's possible since wine grapes are grown in China.
That will teach them 😂😂
means bars are already charging "luxury" prices. just earn less.
Europe is willing the pay the price because it’s not just a simple trade dispute but a longer term agenda to slow Chinese EV progress by limiting market access. Unlike Western countries China’s infrastructure is brand new with EV integrated for the future whereas the West doesn’t have the local demand thus any incentive to do the same.
Why not just set up a commission that will keep track of brandy dumpers and just bar or restrict those brands? They don’t have to slap a tariff on EVERY foreign import, just because they wanna sell for an unprofitable cheap to artificially boost global share value
China importing that much of Brandy & wines?
People still drink brandy? The last time I had a sip was in the 1990's.
The French actually drink Scotch whisky more than their own brandy. But absolutely there's a pretty big export market for Cognac and Armagnac.
Sweet. Save the brandy for us.
China should endeavour to expand the BRICS and trade with member countries only.
BRICS Countries are poor they can’t afford Chinese cars 😅

China is way too "Capitalist" for my liking. Where is the tariff for luxury brands and car brands. People who have money will get them anyway. That's how you lowkey tax the rich.
China itself is a social democracy in politics, and capitalism in the market!
That is fair.
EU picked a fight ! 30% import duty is too lenient, not even scratch the surface
Cheap is relative. Why Brendy that cost just 100s of dollars seems expensive and EVs that cost over $10k++ is cheap, its because of brendy side effects. EV can help save expenditures, but brendy will cause unexpected expenditures, thats why they are labelled as expensive or luxury.
When are they doing the same to Australian coal? Winter coming. 😅
The thumbnail shows only whiskey.
The next item to be hit with 100% tariff is French Fries. 😂
Why are they challenging it at the WTO?
Because Trade is governed by treaties, if they are broken e.g Free trade agreement may be cancel or allows EU to high tax on Chinese products.
@@Muralidharan001 Well if China is a threat, why do they need the Chinese market?

Doesn’t this make people wonder why countries with the least automobile interest wanted higher tariffs?
While the three biggest car makers go:
BMW: no tariff plz it hurt us more
Mercedes: we would like to compete with auto brands from China
VW: no tariff please…
That's because they've already copied and reversed it, now it's time to ban the original.
Which is why I always tell people, don't think you can ignore politics as (none of my business) coz eventually politics will caught you up and affect your livelihood. The only different in China is being dictatorship hence it is tough to have opposition politics in it.
