China plans to collect anti-dumping duties on European brandy imports from October 11, 2024. The European Union said it would challenge the move, announced just days after Brussels voted to impose tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, at the World Trade Organization. Beijing’s plans would require major French brands such as Martell, Remy Martin and Hennessy to pay “security charges” of at least 30 per cent on imports into China.

Europe imposed additional tariffs on cheaper Chinese EVs aimed at lower-income consumers. This tariff makes Chinese car brands expensive for those lower-income consumers. In response, China imposed tariffs on European brandy, targeting middle- and upper-middle-class Chinese consumers. However, I don't see a 30-35% price increase will deter these consumers from purchasing European brands. In sum, I think the Chinese tariffs will be less effective than the European ones

My condolences to all Chinese 🇨🇳 who lost their freedom of speech and independent brain, and have become victims of expansionism in disguise of nationalism with the fact that China is NO Superpower:
    - The GDP per capita of the second most populous country is 99th in the world, still behind many African countries,
    - It doesn't respect international laws and orders, and
    - it's coercive against smaller nations
