A comedian and actor from Amsterdam, Rogier asked himself years ago what his dream job would be, and the answer remains simple: "to make people laugh." He is Dutch, and has worked incredibly hard to make sure you could never tell. Having spent his formative years in the US, he feels like a foreigner in his own country. His comedy is inspired by his life and personal experiences, and his love for accents, characters, and storytelling.

as a dutch person i'm wondering why you ever want to learn this haha
I dont know but if you wont to learn it here it is: en zo spreek je wel goed Nederlands maar kan jij het ook een beetje?
@@thedijon nice
i have an audition for a show tmw where i need a dutch accent... thats why lol!
@@vincentmuller1354 did you get it?
I’m Dutch and I think if I hade a choice I would have not have chosen to be Dutch
Right, so now I just do the opposite to get rid of my Dutch accent, right?
You'll want to refer to the next video for that ;)
One thing I don't understand about Dutch accents is why they change "a" sounds to "e" sounds, considering they Dutch people don't do that when speaking Dutch. Are all Dutch people trying to do a Kiwi (New Zealand) accent in English?
In my Canadian English accent, the word "app" is pronounced like "aap" in Dutch, not "epp".
@@OntarioTrafficMan Because that 'airy' 'a' in 'app' isn't part of the Dutch language. Vowels tend to much flatter, hence the 'e' sound when pronouncing 'a's'.
@@RogierBak But what about the Dutch long "aa"? It's pretty much identical to the short "a" in an Eastern Canadian English accent. The American "a" is a little more like an "e" than the Canadian one, but it's still definitely closer to Dutch "aa" than "e".
For (RP) British accents, the short "a" is actually fairly close to the Dutch short "a". Not exactly the same, but the Dutch "a" is definitely closer than an "e".
I think the only English accents where the short "a" is closest to a Dutch "e" are Kiwi and South African.
@@OntarioTrafficMan because we literally pronounce e like that in our own language, if you’d right amplifier in dutch it would be empliefaier
mY heArT iS hEurtIng bC mY HeineKeN iS wArM
this cracked me up ngl
Same😂😂
Also, because I'm drinking Heineken in the first place
I live in Donegal, Ireland, the general accent here has very flat vowels, it sounds familiar to me
Omg you have it nailed down to a T, I'm really impressed
he dutch.
@@Emma-vc5xl no he's not.
@@mischake You should read his About page before making claims like that
@@OntarioTrafficMan ok my bad about the technicality but he is "from the US"
HAHAHAHA
Broski just did the most acurrate mark rutte impression by accident
the way you switch to that accent godverdomme 😭😭
This guy is just flat out Dutch 💀
Being a Dutch Australian, with Dutch family members, this accent is so funny to me and I can't tell why
I think because it’s a bit like the Aussie bogan or ‘farmer’ sound.
JESUS PERFECT. I'm dutch and he nailed it
Wow good for you with ur dumb Dutch ass head of yours
He’s also Dutch! He’s Dutch-American.
What why is this so good I- wtf
Hij klinkt als Mark Rutte💀💀💀
Dere gows mij mader hahahhahaha
This comment felt trippy for some reason. 😂
Modder Theresa.
I love this so much. He nailed it!!!! My family is from Holland and it is so rare I get to hear an accent. Thank you!
I love the Dutch accent! ❤
Other tips to sound Dutch. Include the following in your sentences while speaking English :
1) per se (for example "do we need it per se?),
2) yes or no (for example, "do we want to do this, yes or no?"),
3) even kijken (whisper it, as if you are thinking),
4) don't forget "ppf" (the sound of lightly farting with your mouth 😁) when you don't really agree with something. French and Belgians also do that btw.
5) Also change any "z" sounds to "zj" , for example "for ekzjample".
6) laugh VERY loud! Everyone needs to know you are having a lot of fun.
7) In the end of the conversation say "zo!", smack your knees with your palms and get up😄
Nederlanders, jullie zijn echt geweldig ❤😁
Another good one is always ending sentences with "hè?"
I'm dutch myself and that sounds more dutch then actual dutch
That fresh funky accent - you are really selling it
DUDE THIS HELPED SOOOOOOO MUCH! I was doing a school actor's studio in my zoom class and the breakout room ended I quickly searched up Dutch accent cause I was Dutch in the actor's studio, and finally found this video that ACTUALLY helped. PS we were doing social studies actor's studio
So happy to hear it man!
@@RogierBak It sure did!
it’s sound like irish mixed with south africans accent 😄👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
They....They speak dutch in South Afrika.
Afrikaans is literally a sub-language of Dutch.
@@WitheringAurora Nope, Afrikaans is a separate language. Similar, but distinct.
I always thought the New York City accent was Irish/Italian/Jewish, etc. And, of course it is, but before all that was the DUTCH accent, and it survives there to this day.
@@flying.fish9 there is. Listen to people like Bernie Sanders
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam. Why’d they change it? I can’t say. People just liked it better that way.
@@abelstropicalfruit8647Or Bawbwa Streiizand 😅
Dang, I don’t have a Dutch accent but you killed it😂
I think Dutch accent are the most beautiful🥰
No god pleas no I'm duch and I'm ashamed of this 😭😭
@@sploentikakkert No bro, it’s such a cool accent.
Good you like it. I don't lol.
My guy speaking like rutte
As Dutch person this was a perfect video 😂
You nailed it
I think its sounds more stamdard and clear. Easy to comprehend.
Also one sound I always pick up is -able at the end of any word, it becomes -abole, like sustainable it becomes sustainab-o-le, attainab-o-le... But I still think it’s cool 😀
The sample sentence killed me.
perfectly on point, please teach hollywood this
He said its in de trrrrrroatttt instead of throat 😭🤣
This is so accurate
U made me laugh so hard 😂, its funny that ur saying its a fresh/funky accent
Your Dutch accent is spot on!
all of your accents are really good
I thought you where Dutch for a second 😂
Nailed it completely
'My heart is hurting because my Heineken is warm' tbh you don't need the accent for that to sound Dutch lmao.
Teach me more
Got more on the way!
Dude, that's impressive. And you're hilarious 😂
You nailed it tbf😂

The T rule and turning th to t or d is also a tip to have a Turkish accent :D

Comes in handy for my streamer friends
I'm so impressed by your accents, I wanna learn it all
TH-cam knows I've been wondering about this exact accent 😂

YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST
My English accent doesn't sound dutch even though i'm from the netherlands

I’m a Dutch person and I’m wondering why you want to have this accent, it sounds just like somebody from the Netherlands who tries to speak English on a vacation….
If I just do the opposite can I get rid of my terrible Dutch accent??
agreed
Spot on
my heart is hurting because my heineken is warm
I came here for Goldmember's Faja

And for the final touch make sure the video is not synced with the sound.
You should've told them about the 'g' 😂
Which is equalizing a sound of the abyss

Jij bent sowieso nederlands, kan niet anders.
Dutch is the best!!
Very helpful👍
When I was a kid we'd say, "Ova-de" for "Over there." Again, I always thought is was Italian-derived.
Where was this? NY?
@@RogierBak Yes, in Westchester County in New York (hanging out with my cousins from Yonkers).
Bc my Heineken is warm got me Rolling lmao
UmsTerdum got it, lol.
As a dutch person ik voel me hetzelfde als mijn Heineken warm is😂
I’m born in Amsterdam, so it’s easy for me😂
There is huge similarities between Dutch and Irish accent when speaking english. I heard a man the other day who I first thought was speaking gaeilge but I realised then it was Dutch! Whatever pre germanic celtic population is the base of the neatherlands must be strong in certain parts
steenkolenengels
Hilarious 😂😂😂
I'm from Suriname and I speak Dutch

You forgot the S you guys put a lot of emphasis on the S, lovely language coming from an Arab living in Italy
Amazing! 10 out of 10
(I’m dutch btw)
How my little brother speaks english😂 most people can speak easier when we don't use the accent. Some of us really have to try to get the 'dutch accent😂😂'
Awesome! You forgot about replacing "s" with "sh" exemple space = Shpashe, and s at the end and z with j, , exemple :"This is good" turns to "Dish ij guud"
What Davy Jones was supposed to sound like but bill Nighy couldn’t do the accent

Dang. Born in the Netherlands.
@@RogierBak nog steeds respect. Ik dacht echt dat je in usa geboren waart :p
Don't forget to swap S' for sheshes. Idk if that's regional or if my dad's whole family has a speech impediment.
I've been trying to learn speak Dutch and fortunately I do have "ch", "sch", "sj" and "tj" sounds in my native language as well and am just struggling with the writing part! My native language is a difficult one but Dutch is another level hard😢 I need help.
