    Not necessarily an accent, but he is intentionally (and ridiculously) speaking English fragmented into short bursts, rising in pitch at the end of each phrase, as if to sound like he is speaking English hesitantly because it is not his native language.

      Amazing and frustrating how so many people don't seem to understand this and play it off as "picking up a bit of an accent" when the implications of him pretending to not be a native English speaker are so much funnier.

    Having myself been through the apprenticeship twice of learning a new language, it is commendable that he takes into account the fact that, for most of those he is speaking to, English is only their second language so he is spacing out his words and enunciating them clearly. Frankly, if more people had done that for me, I would have progressed my understanding of those other languages much faster. Steve is to be commended for his awareness and courtesy and not criticised.

    It's his normal accent? Am I on crazy pills?? I think some people have just never heard a Dutch accent, he's talking absolutely normally!! He's just wary (too wary, given how good most Dutch people are at speaking English) about keeping his language simple for the translators. It's called consideration.

    • @ShellysAshes
      @ShellysAshes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, if there's a Dutch accent here it's suuuuper subtle and nothing like how it was reported. And he's from North Eastern England which had a lot of invasion from across the North Sea, so there's actually some natural subtle similarities in his English accent and how people from across the sea speak English, definitely when compared to how English is spoke in other regions of England.
      A better example of this phenomenon is Barton's French accent. But I actually think it's kind of sweet even though it's funny - it shows the person is empathetic to the people they are speaking to even if it comes across a bit weird.
