Planning this very type of "restoration." A naked GL1100 with a single carb. I happen to have a pair of dual throat downdraft weber carbs from a Porche 914 pancake engine. I will use one of them on my project. Maybe I will have time to do two 1100 builds before I am too old.

1982 Honda Goldwing Standard 1100GL with single carb. Cylinder 3 is very low compression. I am hoping valves and seals, based on mileage and such - but it might be rings. Watching your stuff to, well, you all know...... :-) I'll dig into it this fall/winter. Cheers!

Rings could be a little stuck too if it has been sitting. My cylinder 3 was the worst also but haven't redone a compression test to see how that has improved.

Anybody know the best way to get hold of an '81 GL1100B manual?

Did you check goldwingdocs.com? I thought they were available there for download. I got a package download deal on ebay for cheap with a factory manual and the Clymer manual in it. Hard copies can be found on ebay also

What is the difference between gw1000 and gw1100?

I would put Marvel mystery oil in the spark plug holes and intake holes amd let it set for 2 or 3 days and you will be fine

I am well past that point now, but while Marvel Mystery is great stuff, it would not have cleaned up the rust and sediment as well as I was able to by taking everything apart. I feel much better knowing the cylinders are clean, the valves have been lapped, and every seal and gasket replaced.

@@DustyDingus Nice overhaul! For someone getting a bike running Go pro is probably right but you will definitely get more life out the engine going through it as you have.

I'm doing the same thing but naked. Check out my channel if you want. I'm rebuilding the carbs and then starting reassembly. Good video.
