Maybe IPS could be more fuel economy, but it is also more expensive to buy. I just looked at the website of Targa and your choice of engine is in the middle of all options. I believe that is very clever choice because your boat is fast enough when wanted and normal use in low consumption speed you don’t need almost 900 hp. Thank you for normal looking and sounding videos. And it looks like you have a boat with great capeabilities for even more hard use in hard circumstances.
Thx. I went for biggest D4 because they gave good speed for the money. D6 is a lot more expensive and weighs more. It differed only 1 knot from the D6-330. You must have D6-370 or D6 400 before you get any particular more speed. And it costs a lot more. IPS is expensive to maintain and acquire. You can also not lift the "sterndrives" if it is shallow.
Hi Lars, thanks for posting, this info is hard to find. I am looking into the same D4 set-up and similarly sized vessel. Am reading correctly you are getting 2.2L per nautical mile at 24-25 knots of speed. Thanks
Hei Lars! I really like these tests and videos you have. Targa videos are hard to find. I live up near Ålesund and am thinking of either a Targa, a Sargo, a Paragon, or a Nordstar. Why did you choose the Targo over the others? Is there a huge seaworthy difference? Anything else to think about? Targa is my first choice but finn.no only have a few options right now.
What I think Targa is better at than the boats you mentions: Interior (teak) Speed characteristics, small planing threshold. And not too much windbreak, low profile even with flybridge. And nice sitting area in front and still decent cabin in front
I think you should have more rpms. Probably therefore you have low speed. I have optimised the propellers at an expert in Norway, windace. That gave me more speed also.
thx, IPS is also very expensive both in purchase and maintenance. And in shallow waters you can adjust the stern drives for better clearance 😊

IPS is not as efficient as sterndrive for given engine horspower rating, so you made a good choice.@@grindene

Thx, yes to little info from the boat makers is normal.

I'm very surprised... My Nord Star 34 2xD6 370 with G7 propellers has 3000 rpm and a speed of 32 knots. This is maximum. Unfortunately...

There is something wrong with your setup. The engines should run close to 3500 rpm flat out.
what app is that?
It is the Volvo Easy Connect app
