First of all don't listen to the people at the academy telling you that you can make over $100,000 a year. A seven-year employee told me last year he made $93,000 and that is again at 7 years, but he picks up as much as he can get. In West Bloomfield Michigan you constantly hear about carriers making a hundred eighty thousand a year, well those are people that are well past the pay cap and you have to work for the USPS for 13 years to reach the cap. Anytime I come close to hitting 40 hours, they bitch about my timing or tell me I don't have to work a particular day after I come in. They do what they can to keep me under 40 hours. Another thing they don't tell you is the supervisors get a bonus every quarter based on the carrier's timing. You will wonder why are they constantly going after people about their timing when they get 8-hour routes done in 7, well it's because they want you done in six cuz it looks good for them on the bonus end.

The benefits of working as a postal employee is that you will get raises regularly and the pay rate changes from state to state I advise working in a saturated state where the pay rate is high because if you move from one postal office to another your pay rate will stay the same i.e. working in New York for 10 years and then moving to a less saturated state with New York State pay….you carry your pay rate with you.
