- In today's test drive video, we have my very own 2006 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with exactly 340,000 km on the clock. I share what my experience has been like for the past 3 years including all the pros and cons of owning a 2nd Generation Tacoma.

My dad has a 2006 Toyota Tacoma about to hit 200,000 miles and it runs like butter 😭
Would be happy to see your upgrades, as I am also thinking about to install bilstein suspension. If you gonna do it yourself please make video, will be waiting for it
would love more taco content but either way love the vids keep up the good work
Plenty more Tacoma vids coming!
I do live my 2005 Taco. It's a simple and great overall truck. I've owned several different trucks and the Taco fits my needs the most.
I have an 09 with 205,000 miles. Suspension and brake videos would be interesting because i have the same problems
So you aren't happy with the braking in yours either?
I have a 13 sr5 and my suspension also feels spongy and definitely in need of an upgrade. Would love to see some videos on that as well! My brakes feel fine though..
The brakes are horrid on my 2008 trd off road.
I love my black 2012 4x4 TRD sport double cab in manual configuration, I've had it four years as well and upgraded with some tasteful mods, luv these trucks 🤘🏾😎
I wish mine was both a manual and a double cab!
@@CanadianGearhead I feel ya brother, if you had a chance would you trade the one you have for another 2nd Gen in Manual and double cab? 👀👀👀👀
@@uno3863 Yeah, I think that truck would suit me more
I have a 2010 tacoma I rust proof it every year. I have no issues with rust I Also have the Bilstein 5100 They're not the greatest. I would look into old man EMU Or Edelbrock they have a kit for the Tacoma. I live in brampton if you ever wanted to meet up to talk,
I've had 5100s in the past and wasn't thrilled with them either, I was just thinking of something common that could be found easily
@CanadianGearhead That's the reason I went with them. They were very easy to get I have a lot of crazy stories. With owning this truck with dealing with the dealership and and with Toyota of canada and Toyota of USA. I bought the truck 2 years old from a dealership in Canada, but it's an American truck.
Definitely would love to see some Tacoma content.
Definitely upgrade suspension and brakes! Don’t give up the ole girl
I love my 05 Tacoma and it is far from boring being the 6 speed X-Runner. My biggest complaint is the crappy paint that Toyota seemed to use during that era.
Also I agree with the horrible sounding exhaust. There used to be an equal length header and y-pipe on the aftermarket but both are discontinued. From the few sound clips I've heard online, they seemed to have sounded pretty good.
Mmmmm. X-RUNNER. I know I'm one of the 23 people in North America that wanted one (not a huge seller) but still, what a cool model. I wanted a blue one, but life never let me do it. Maybe one out there will be cheap enough for the kids.
Do it! Upgrade!
Looks better than the fourth gen tho 👌🏻👍🏻
There's definitely something to be said for the subtle styling of this era of yota trucks
I love how your house is separate from the garage
It definitely helps when the lil guy is sleeping
Hey I have an 06 Tacoma SR5 in my "motorpool". Would love to see a follow up on the spongy brakes I share your opinion on. Love your channel!
Thanks for watching! Looks like a few other people here are commenting about their brakes being the same
Get some TRD off road take offs see them all the time for $300ish
Great video! I have an 07 AC. Also thinking about the bilstein 5100s and lift 1-2 inch. Question, do I have to do anything to the back suspension or leave it alone if lifting? Thanks!
If I do it I'd probably just upgrade the shocks to match the front and keep the original leafs
Do you have a video about the MR2 sitting in the garage?
Ya
My 09 Tacoma with almost 310,000km downshifts all the time going up hills. I also find it stutters sometimes around 50-70km/h
Are you running stock size tires?
@@CanadianGearhead Yeah it was going on when I had stocks on and is just as bad with my new setup
Put some 3rd gen off-road suspension on it. I’ve got a 13 sr5 with 55k. Keeping it for life
How does it ride compared to an aftermarket setup?
I’m reminded why these trucks last so long every time I get stuck behind a boomer driving one 10mph under the speed limit.
As a GenX (let's face it, we're all Boomers above 30 to GenZ) I no longer speed. Theres no point. The 4.0 isn't fast, and it just burns more gas. Also, GenX are slackers by nature, hurrying isn't what we do. Nothing on my 2nd Gen has ever broken except one dash light bulb. Embrace the darkness.
Bud I'm 27 and I just stay at the speed limit. Don't break the law while you're breaking the law.
I have a 3rd gen 2017 since new and I can state the gear hunting sucks, and the motor is very lackluster I yearn for the torque of 4.0
I've heard that tuning them helps with the gear hunting and might wake it up a bit too
I have a 2010 and i wouldnt trade it for the new ones with the crappy turbos if the trade was straight
I hear ya
Get a 1 gen tundra with the 4.7 legendary engine!
They're great trucks!
You got it from your wife and it means nothing to you?
Oh man you got some explaining to do😅
Lol I have stronger feelings for this truck than she does
What’s the mileage on it now?
