Thanks so much! I was having a hard time trying to remember how the clips were supposed to go back in holding the cable ends. Your clear image at about 6:06 in the video showed me exactly how.
Nice job Peter. I'm replacing the handbrake cable on a Toyota Starlet and it looks very similar to what you are showing. I bought the TRW aftermarket brand and so far it nicely fits like the original Toyota one.
Thanks for video. Similar set up to my 97 Celica. Pig of a job, nearly finished, just need to attach cable ends to equalizer and button up rear. Living in a snow belt area made job difficult, every exhaust heat shield screw snapped off, will need to drill out and insert new screws. One of the parking brake cable holding screws sheared off also. My old cables completely rusted solid. Could not simply separate the cable ends from the equalizer in place so used Dremel to cut off cable ends to access equalizer and then Dremel off the cable end notches on the bench because they were fastened solid allowing no movement. The cable end from the parking brake was equally rusted. Will be relieved when this job is finished, thankfully have plenty of time, car is a convertible and inside our heated garage for the winter so when the frustration boils over I have the luxury of leaving it and continue another day, whether it's with this job or something else!
Hi Peter, thank you for this video, we needed to change the cables due to corrosion on my son Toyota Conquest (Corolla), we had a look at the video a few times to see what had to be done. Then got on with the job. The section on setting the hand brake at the end was really useful. I did not know this method for checking correct number of the brake clicks. Regards & Thanks
great video, the accent kept me engaged. the adjustment part at the end was what I needed. a better angle would have been appreciated, but thank you none the less.
Thank you for the video. this is very helpful. Did you lubricate and reuse the cable? It seems that one of my cables is stuck and I would like to attempt fixing the existing cable so that I can reuse.
Hi Peter I removed the plastics around the handbrake lever, but now when I put it back, the back side of the plastics is loose, does this use clips or screws or nothing?
what could be wrong if the adjustment nut in the cabin is fully turned in, but the cable still becomes loose after u pull the lever? like it keeps sucking the cable out from the bottom somehow.... and now when the nut is in the last twist, the rear wheel also blocked up and will not become loose anymore.... altho the adjustment cable is quite loose in the cabin...........
And if you're religious you rely on god to keep your car from rolling away. You know if the bible or quran doesn't mention parking brake cables why taking responsibility yourself.
You can do better??Let us see how you make a video or a repair. So shut up and if you don't like it, don't watch it. Be grateful that people upload a video so we can learn something!

You are one of the most knowledgeable mechanics on TH-cam, and I love that you show mostly Toyota's. May your channel grow from strength to strength.

Why are the brake shoes backwards, shouldnt the small material be in the front
Hello 😃, I have read your comment and I appreciate it. Thanks. 👍
How to adjust hand brake?
Easy
you do not need to remove the whole cable .... all you need to do is lube the cable both sides with injunction needle from CVS
